The Maxwell algebra, an enlargement of Poincare algebra by Abelian tensorial generators, can be obtained in arbitrary dimension D by the suitable contraction of O(D-1,1) \oplus O(D-1,2) (Lorentz algebra \oplus AdS algebra). We recall that in D=4 the Lorentz algebra O(3,1) is described by the realification Sp_R(2|C) of complex algebra Sp(2|C)\simeq Sl(2|C) and O(3,2)\simeq Sp(4). We study various D=4 N-extended Maxwell superalgebras obtained by the contractions of real superalgebras OSp_R(2N-k; 2|C)\oplus OSp(k;4), (k=1,2,...,2N) (extended Lorentz superalgebra \oplus extended AdS superalgebra). If N=1 (k=1,2) one arrives at two different versions of simple Maxwell superalgebra. For any fixed N we get 2N different superextensions of Maxwell algebra with n-extended Poincare superalgebras (1\leq n \leq N) and the internal symmetry sectors obtained by suitable contractions of the real algebra O_R(2N-k|C)\oplus O(k). Finally the comments on possible applications of Maxwell superalgebras are presented.
The semisimple part of d-dimensional Galilean conformal algebra g^(d) is given by h^(d)=O(2,1)+O(d), which after adding via semidirect sum the 3d-dimensional Abelian algebra t^(d) of translations, Galilean boosts and constant accelerations completes the construction. We obtain Galilean superconformal algebra G^(d) by firstly defining the semisimple superalgebra H^(d) which supersymmetrizes h^(d), and further by considering the expansion of H^(d) by tensorial and spinorial graded Abelian charges in order to supersymmetrize the Abelian generators of t^(d). For d=3 the supersymmetrization of h^(3…
Inequivalent N=2 supersymmetrizations of the l-conformal Galilei algebra in d-spatial dimensions are constructed from the chiral (2,2) and the real (1,2,1) basic supermultiplets of the N=2 supersymmetry. For non-negative integer and half-integer l both superalgebras admit a consistent truncation with a (different) finite number of generators. The real N=2 case coincides with the superalgebra introduced by Masterov, while the chiral N=2 case is a new superalgebra. We present D-module representations of both superalgebras. Then we investigate the new superalgebra derived from the chiral supermul…
The Lie algebras expansion method is used to show that the Maxwell (super)algebras and some of their generalizations can be derived in a simple way as particular expansions of o(3,2) and osp(N|4).
In this work we present different infinite dimensional algebras which appear as deformations of the asymptotic symmetry of the three-dimensional Chern-Simons gravity for the Maxwell algebra. We study rigidity and stability of the infinite dimensional enhancement of the Maxwell algebra. In particular, we show that three copies of the Witt algebra and the BMS3+Witt algebra are obtained by deforming its ideal part. New family of infinite dimensional algebras are obtained by considering deformations of the other commutators which we have denoted as M(a,b;c,d) and \bar{M}(\barα,\barβ;\barν). Intere…

We consider the extension of the general-linear and special-linear algebras by employing the Maxwell symmetry in $D$ space-time dimensions. We show how various Maxwell extensions of the ordinary space-time algebras can be obtained by a suitable contraction of generalized algebras. The extended Lie algebras could be useful in the construction of generalized gravity theories and the objects that couple to them. We also consider the gravitational dynamics of these algebras in the framework of the gauge theories of gravity. By adopting the symmetry-breaking mechanism of the Stelle-West model, we p…
We introduce an analog of the Maxwell operator on a q-Minkowski space algebra (treated as a particular case of the so-called Reflection Equation Algebra) and on certain of its quotients. We treat the space of "quantum differential forms" as a projective module in the spirit of the Serre-Swan approach. Also, we use "braided tangent vector fields" which are q-analogs of Poisson vector fields associated to the Lie bracket sl(2).
The Maxwell algebra is the result of enlarging the Poincaré algebra by six additional tensorial Abelian generators that make the fourmomenta non-commutative. We present a local gauge theory based on the Maxwell algebra with vierbein, spin connection and six additional geometric Abelian gauge fields. We apply this geometric framework to the construction of Maxwell gravity, which is described by the Einstein action plus a generalized cosmological term. We mention a Friedman-Robertson-Walker cosmological approximation to the Maxwell gravity field equations, with two scalar fields obtained from th…
The Abelian semigroup expansion is a powerful and simple method to derive new Lie algebras from a given one. Recently it was shown that the $S$-expansion of $\mathfrak{so}\left( 3,2\right) $ leads us to the Maxwell algebra $\mathcal{M}$. In this paper we extend this result to superalgebras, by proving that different choices of abelian semigroups $S$ lead to interesting $D=4$ Maxwell Superalgebras. In particular, the minimal Maxwell superalgebra $s\mathcal{M}$ and the $N$-extended Maxwell superalgebra $s\mathcal{M}^{\left( N\right) }$ recently found by the Maurer Cartan expansion procedure, are…
We analyze the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations of the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory defined on a manifold with boundary for two different sets of boundary equations derived from a variational principle. We pay special attention to the identification of the infinite chains of boundary constraints and their resolution. We identify edge observables and their algebra [which corresponds to the well-known $U(1)$ Kac-Moody algebra]. Without performing any gauge fixing, and using the Hodge-Morrey theorem, we solve the Hamilton equations whenever possible. In order to give explicit solutions, we …
By gauging the Maxwell spacetime algebra the standard geometric framework of Einstein gravity with cosmological constant term is extended by adding six fourvector fields A_μ^{ab}(x) associated with the six abelian tensorial charges in the Maxwell algebra. In the simplest Maxwell extension of Einstein gravity this leads to a generalized cosmological term that includes a contribution from these vector fields. We also consider going beyond the basic gravitational model by means of bilinear actions for the new Abelian gauge fields. Finally, an analogy with the supersymmetric generalization of grav…
Using octonions, more specifically, using a 4 x 4 matrix representation of octonions obtained with the help of algebraic properties of quaternions, we obtain the fully symmetric Maxwell's equations (Maxwell's equations with electric and magnetic charges and currents which is invariant under duality transformations).
This paper presents an exterior-algebra generalization of electromagnetic fields and source currents as multivectors of grades $r$ and $r-1$ respectively in a flat space-time with $n$ space and $k$ time dimensions. Formulas for the Maxwell equations and the Lorentz force for arbitrary values of $r$, $n$, and $k$ are postulated in terms of interior and exterior derivatives, in a form that closely resembles their vector-calculus analogues. These formulas lead to solutions in terms of potentials of grade $r-1$, and to conservation laws in terms of a stress-energy-momentum tensor of rank 2 for any…
The Lie algebra of the Poincaré-Maxwell group is derived in a manner that provides the interpretation of the equations of motion. It is clarified that the dynamics obtained from the orbit method is exactly equivalent to the classical description of the charged particle moving in the constant electromagnetic field. The multiplicity of the coadjoint orbits of the group under consideration is discussed.
A universal C*-algebra of the electromagnetic field is constructed. It is represented in any quantum field theory which incorporates electromagnetism and expresses basic features of this field such as Maxwell's equations, Poincaré covariance and Einstein causality. Moreover, topological properties of the field resulting from Maxwell's equations are encoded in the algebra, leading to commutation relations with values in its center. The representation theory of the algebra is discussed with focus on vacuum representations, fixing the dynamics of the field.
This thesis is devoted to the study of the deformation and rigidity of infinite dimensional Lie algebras which are not subject to the Hochschild-Serre factorization theorem. In particular, we consider $bms_{3}$, Virasoro-Kac-Moody and $bms_{4}$ algebras and their central extensions which are respectively obtained as asymptotic and/or near horizon symmetry algebras for Einstein gravity on $3d$ flat, AdS$_{3}$ and $4d$ flat spacetimes. We also explore possible deformations of the Maxwell-BMS algebra, which is obtained as asymptotic symmetry algebra of the Chern-Simons gravity theory invariant un…
We show that the first-order D=4, N=1 pure supergravity lagrangian four-form can be obtained geometrically as a quadratic expression in the curvatures of the Maxwell superalgebra. This is achieved by noticing that the relative coefficient between the two terms of the Lagrangian that makes the action locally supersymmetric also determines trivial field equations for the gauge fields associated with the extra generators of the Maxwell superalgebra. Along the way, a convenient geometric procedure to check the local supersymmetry of a class of lagrangians is developed.
We develop a quantization scheme for Maxwell's equations without source on an arbitrary four dimensional globally hyperbolic spacetime. The field strength tensor is the key dynamical object and it is not assumed a priori that it descends from a vector potential. It is shown that, in general, the associated field algebra can contain a non trivial centre and, on account of this, such a theory cannot be described within the framework of general local covariance unless further restrictive assumptions on the topology of the spacetime are made.
We give a geometric formulation of the Fokker-Planck-Kramer equations for a particle moving on a Lie algebra under the influence of a dissipative and a random force. Special cases of interest are fluid mechanics, the Stochastic Loewner Equation and the rigid body. We find that the Boltzmann distribution, although a static solution, is not normalizable when the algebra is not unimodular. This is because the invariant measure of integration in momentum space is not the standard one. We solve the special case of the upper half-plane (hyperboloid) explicitly: there is another equilibrium solution …
Dirac's operator and Maxwell's equations in vacuum are derived in the algebra of split octonions. The approximations are given which lead to classical Maxwell-Heaviside equations from full octonionic equations. The non-existence of magnetic monopoles in classical electrodynamics is connected with the using of associativity limit.
