HESS J0632+057 is an unidentified gamma-ray source located in the Monoceros region, probably associated with the massive Be star MWC 148. H.E.S.S. and VERITAS observations in the very high energy (VHE) range combined with Swift X-ray data indicate that this object is a new member of the elusive gamma-ray binary class. We present here results of VHE gamma-ray observations from VERITAS and HESS at energies above 100 GeV taken over more than six years. The observations confirm HESS J0632+057 as a point-like VHE source with a significance of more than 12 standard deviations. The VHE gamma-ray results are discussed in the context of contemporaneous X-ray observations with Swift XRT.
The VERITAS array of 12-m atmospheric-Cherenkov telescopes is used in an intensive observation program focused on the discovery of VHE (E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray-emitting blazars. Since VERITAS began full-scale operation in 2007, more than 1000 hours of observation, on ~90 targets, have been devoted to the VHE blazar discovery effort and to timely follow-up in multi-wavelength (MWL) observation campaigns. These data have resulted in the discovery of VHE emission from 10 blazars (6 HBLs and 4 IBLs). A summary of these VHE discoveries is presented.

1ES 1218+304 is a moderate-redshift (z = 0.182) high-frequency-peaked BL Lac object (HBL). Detected by both the MAGIC and VERITAS gamma-ray observatories, 1ES 1218+304 is frequently monitored by VERITAS as part of its long-term blazar monitoring program. On the 3rd of January 2019, during a regularly scheduled blazar snapshot, VERITAS observed 1ES 1218+304 to have an elevated VHE flux state which continued through January 5 (ATEL #12360). We present long-term observations of several VHE (E > 100 GeV) blazars with VERITAS, together with contemporaneous Swift and RXTE X-ray data. The observed targets include Mrk 421, Mrk 501, 1ES 2344+514. Strong flux and spectral variability is seen in Mrk 421 on nightly time-scales between January and June 2008, revealing a highly correlated X-ray to GeV/TeV connection. Modest X-ray variability is evident in Mrk 501. Observations of 1ES 2344+514 in December 2007 show VHE gamma-ray and X-ray flux doubling on nightly time-scales.
A few Galactic objects are known to be variable sources of photons with energies above 100 GeV. These systems are mostly binaries, where variability can often be connected to the orbital period. Particle acceleration and gamma-ray production processes in binaries are generally not well understood. We present here an overview of VERITAS observations of binary systems at very-high energies (VHE) with emphasis on LS I +61 303 and 1A0535+262. The results are discussed in the context of recent observations of RXTE, Swift and Fermi LAT at X- and Gamma-ray energies.
We report on the VERITAS detection of very-high-energy (VHE, $E > 100~\mathrm{GeV}$) $γ$-ray emission from the optically bright quasar OJ 287 which is located at a redshift of z = 0.306. OJ 287 has been observed to display regular optical outbursts with a period of approximately 12 years, with the last major optical outburst having occurred in 2015. To explain this periodicity, models involving a binary supermassive black hole system at the core of OJ 287, or a helical jet, have been developed. CTA 1 (G119.5+10.2) is a composite supernova remnant (SNR) with a shell-type structure in the radio band and a center filled morphology at X-ray energies. Fermi has detected a radio-quiet pulsar PSR J0007+7303 within the radio shell of CTA 1 in a blind search within its first months of operation. Located within an X-ray synchrotron pulsar wind nebula (PWN), the Fermi source is spatially coincident with the EGRET source 3EG J0010+7309. We present the the detection of the system in very-high-energy (VHE) gamma rays by VERITAS, with a preliminary comparison to other TeV-detected PWNe.
Gamma-ray binaries are variable sources of GeV-to-TeV photons with the peak in their spectral energy distributions above 100 MeV. There are only five Galactic gamma-ray binaries known and the processes which govern particle acceleration, non-thermal emission and the variability patterns are not well understood. Since the 2011 VERITAS discovery of very high energy (VHE; E>100 GeV) gamma rays from the Crab pulsar, there has been concerted effort by the gamma-ray astrophysics community to detect other pulsars in the VHE band in order to place better constraints on emission models. The VERITAS array of Cherenkov telescopes was used to observe ~130 blazars from 2007 to 2012. Of these, 25 were detected as very-high-energy (VHE; E > 100 GeV) sources. We present here the results of the analysis of 65 VERITAS non-detected blazars, including upper limits on their VHE flux. Results from a stacked analysis of the entire data set and of smaller sub-sets (defined as a function of the redshift and the blazar class) are presented and discussed.

Radio, infrared, X-ray, and GeV gamma-ray counterparts have been identified for HESS J1943+213; however, the classification of the source is still uncertain. Recent publications have argued primarily in favor of an extreme BL Lac object behind the Galactic plane, though the scenario that HESS J1943+213 is a young pulsar wind nebula is viable as well. In recent years, the Fermi-LAT gamma-ray telescope has detected a population of over 160 gamma-ray pulsars, which has enabled the detailed study of electromagnetic radiation from pulsars at energies above 100 MeV. The gamma-ray binary HESS J0632+057 has been observed at very-high energies for almost ten years by all major systems of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. During its first cycle of observations, VERITAS observed several GRBs in response to broadcast alerts from the Gamma-ray bursts Coordinates Network (GCN). The GRBs were followed up and observed thereafter with typical delays of 2 to 4 minutes from the beginning of the burst and of 92 s in the best case, searching for a very high energy (VHE) component above 100 GeV. The gamma-ray binary HESSJ0632+057 (VERJ0633+057) has been observed at very-high energies for a decade by all major systems of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. We present here new observations taken by the VERITAS observatory during the season 2015-2016. The observations cover now all phases of the binary orbit (with its period of about 315 days), showing clearly enhancements around phases 0.35 and 0.75. Non-thermal variable emission from radio to very-high energy gamma rays (VHE; >100 GeV) are the prime characteristics of gamma-ray binaries. Diffuse gamma rays are tracers of cosmic rays, providing information on their origin, interaction and diffusion through a galaxy. M 31 (the Andromeda Galaxy) is the closest spiral galaxy to the Milky Way (d = 780 kpc) and is very well studied at all wavelengths. Thus it is a prime target for the study of diffuse gamma-ray emission. Radio galaxies are the only non-blazar extragalactic objects detected in the VHE (E >100 GeV) band. These objects enable the investigation of the main substructures of the AGN, in particular the core, the jet and its interaction with the intergalactic environment. Clusters of galaxies, instead, have not been detected by gamma-ray observatories. These objects are collections of up to thousands of galaxies and are the densest large-scale structures in the universe. The galaxy M82 has long been considered a promising target for VHE gamma-ray observations because of the compact starburst region in its core. Theoretical predictions have suggested it should be detectable by ground-based imaging Cherenkov telescopes like VERITAS and that a detection would have implications for the understanding of the origin of cosmic rays. Fast radio burst (FRBs) are an exciting class of bright, extragalactic, millisecond radio transients. The recent development of large field-of-view (FOV) radio telescopes has caused a rapid rise in the number of identified single burst and repeating FRBs. The radio source 3C 264, hosted by the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 3862, was observed with VERITAS between February 2017 and May 2019. These deep observations resulted in the discovery of very-high-energy (VHE; E $>100$ GeV) $γ$-ray emission from this active galaxy. The recent detection by the Fermi gamma-ray space telescope of high-energy gamma-rays from the radio galaxy NGC 1275 makes the observation of the very high energy (VHE: E > 100 GeV) part of its broadband spectrum particularly interesting, especially for the understanding of active galactic nuclei (AGN) with misaligned multi-structured jets. The radio galaxy NGC 1275 was recently observed by VERITAS at energies above 100 GeV for about 8 hours. No VHE gamma-ray emission was detected by VERITAS from NGC 1275. In the cosmological paradigm, cold dark matter (DM) dominates the mass content of the Universe and is present at every scale. Candidates for DM include many extensions of the Standard Model with weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) in the mass range from ~10 GeV to greater than 10 TeV. We conduct a search for periodic emission in the very high-energy gamma-ray band (VHE; E > 100 GeV) from a total of 13 pulsars in an archival VERITAS data set with a total exposure of over 450 hours. The set of pulsars includes many of the brightest young gamma-ray pulsars visible in the Northern Hemisphere. The data analysis resulted in non-detections of pulsed VHE gamma rays from each pulsar. Upper limits on a potential VHE gamma-ray flux are derived at the 95% confidence level above three energy thresholds using two methods. The gamma-ray binary HESS J0632+057 has been observed at very-high energies (E $>$ 100 GeV) for more than ten years by the major systems of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. We present a summary of results obtained with the H.E.S.S., MAGIC, and VERITAS experiments based on roughly 440 h of observations in total. This includes a discussion of an unusually bright TeV outburst of HESS J0632+057 in January 2018. The H.E.S.S. Galactic plane scan has revealed a large population of Galactic very high energy (VHE; E > 100 GeV) emitters. The majority of the galactic sources are extended and can typically be associated with pulsar wind nebulae (35%) and supernova remnants (21%), while some of the sources remain unidentified (31%). A much smaller fraction of point-like sources (5 in total, corresponding to 4%) are identified as gamma-ray binaries. Active galactic nuclei located behind the Galactic plane are also a potential source class. An active galaxy could be identified in the VHE regime by a point-like …
HESS J0632+057 has been recently identified as a new gamma-ray binary system. The source, located in the Monoceros region and associated with the massive Be star MWC 148, shows variability from radio to very high energy (VHE) gamma-rays, displaying a maximum of its non-thermal emission about 100 days after periastron passage (at orbital phases close to 0.3). We present here the results obtained with the VERITAS and H.E.S.S Cherenkov telescopes spanning a wide time interval from 2004 to 2012. We report the detection of very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray emission from supernova remnant (SNR) G106.3+2.7. Observations performed in 2008 with the VERITAS atmospheric Cherenkov gamma-ray telescope resolve extended emission overlapping the elongated radio SNR. The 7.3 sigma (pre-trials) detection has a full angular extent of roughly 0.6deg by 0.4deg. Most notably, the centroid of the VHE emission is centered near the peak of the coincident 12CO (J = 1-0) emission, 0.4deg away from the pulsar PSR J2229+6114, situated at the northern end of the SNR.
