A spin-1 weakly interacting vector boson, Z', is predicted by many new physics theories. Searches at colliders for such a Z' resonance typically focus on lepton-antilepton or top-antitop events. Here we present a novel channel with a Z' resonance that decays to 4 leptons, but not to 2 leptons, and discuss its possible discovery at the Large Hadron Collider. This baryonic gauge boson is well motivated in a supersymmetry framework.
Lepton flavor violation at linear collider experiments is discussed. We show that detectable lepton flavor violation could occur through scalar lepton pair production and decay in the supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theory in spite of the stringent present experimental constraints by rare process searches. Possible cross sections about 40fb for an e+e- collider and 280fb for an e-e- collider are illustrated.
We consider possible production of heavy leptons via anomalous interactions at future $ep$ colliders (THERA and LHeC), $e^+e^-$ colliders (ILC and CLIC) and $pp$ collider CERN LHC. The production, backgrounds and signatures of heavy leptons are analyzed. We obtain the upper mass limits of 800 GeV at LHeC, 450 GeV at ILC and 650 GeV at LHC for optimal choices of relevant parameters.
We investigate simplified models involving an inert scalar triplet and vector-like leptons that can account for the muon $g-2$ anomaly. These simplified scenarios are embedded in a model that features W' and Z' bosons, which are subject to stringent collider bounds. The constraints coming from the muon $g-2$ anomaly are put into perspective with collider bounds, as well as bounds coming from lepton flavor violation searches. The region of parameter space that explains the $g-2$ anomaly is shown to be within reach of lepton flavor violation probes and future colliders such as HL-LHC and HE-LHC.
We investigate the potentials of high energy lepton-proton colliders to detect a flavor changing $l-l^{\prime}-Z$ or $l-l^{\prime}-γ$ couplings from the processes $ep\toμ(τ)X$ and $μp\to τX$. For the $l-l^{\prime}-Z$ coupling we consider string inspired $E_6$ model whereas $l-l^{\prime}-γ$ coupling is analyzed in the framework of anomalous magnetic moment type interaction (AMMI) model.
We study how to unravel the dark matter blind spots by phase transition gravitational waves in synergy with collider signatures at electroweak one-loop level taking the inert doublet model as an example. We perform a detailed Monte Carlo study at the future lepton colliders in the favored parameter space, which is consistent with current dark matter experiments and collider constraints. Our studies demonstrate that the Circular Electron Positron Collider and other future lepton colliders have the potential to explore the dark matter blind spots.
The observation of lepton flavor violation indicates new physics beyond the Standard Model. Lepton colliders are ideal facilities to probe charged lepton flavor violation (CLFV) signals induced by new physics at high energy. In this work we perform a comprehensive study of the sensitivity of future lepton colliders to charged lepton flavor violation. We consider the most general renormalizable Lagrangian coupling two leptons to new bosonic particles, involving both $ΔL=0$ and $ΔL=2$ interactions. The CLFV processes are introduced by the exchange of off-shell new particles at tree-level. We fin…
The observation of charged lepton flavor violation is a clear sign of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). In this work, we investigate the sensitivity of future lepton colliders to charged lepton flavor violation via on-shell production of bileptons, and compare their sensitivity with current constraints and future sensitivities of low-energy experiments. Bileptons couple to two charged leptons with possibly different flavors and are obtained by expanding the general SM gauge invariant Lagrangians with or without lepton number conservation. We find that future lepton colliders will provide…
Possible single productions of the fourth standard model family charged leptons via anomalous interactions at the future ep colliders are studied. Signatures of such anomalous processes and backgrounds are discussed in detail.
After a brief review of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and specifically the Minimal Supergravity Model (SUGRA), the prospects for discovering and studying SUSY at the CERN Large Hadron Collider are reviewed. The possible role for a future Lepton Collider --- whether $μ^+μ^-$ or $e^+e^-$ --- is also discussed.
We examine lepton flavor violating (LFV) interactions for heavy right-handed neutrinos that exist in most of the standard model extensions that address dark matter (DM) and neutrino mass at the loop level. In order to probe the collider effect of these LFV interactions, we impose the assumption that the model parameters give the right values of the DM relic density and fulfill the constraints from the LFV processes $\ell_α\rightarrow\ell_βγ$ and $\ell_α\rightarrow3\ell_β$. We also investigate the possibility of probing these interactions, and hence the right-handed neutrino, at leptonic collid…
The production of isolated leptons with high transverse momentum in high energy e-e, p-p or e-p collisions is reviewed. The leptons are produced either through boson splitting or by boson-boson collision and yield experimentally simple and spectacular topologies which can be exploited to validate the Standard Model or to search for new phenomena.
In this talk we discuss gluon radiation in top production and decay. After reviewing results for hadron colliders we consider soft gluon radiation at lepton colliders and present gluon distributions that are potentially sensitive to production-decay interference effects.
Electron proton (ep) colliders could provide particle collisions at TeV energies with large data rates while maintaining the clean and pile~up-free environment of lepton colliders, which makes them very attractive for heavy neutrino searches. Heavy (mainly sterile) neutrinos with masses around the electroweak scale are proposed in low scale seesaw models for neutrino mass generation. In this paper, we analyse two of the most promising signatures of heavy neutrinos at ep colliders, the lepton-flavour violating (LFV) lepton-trijet signature and the displaced vertex signature. In the considered b…
We discuss the production of the doubly charged leptons in future linear electron positron colliders, such as the International Linear Collider and Compact Linear Collider. Such states are introduced in extended weak-isospin multiplets by composite models. We discuss the production cross section of $e^-γ\rightarrow L^{--}W^{+}$ and carry out analyses for hadronic, semi-leptonic and pure leptonic channels based on the full simulation performance of the Silicon Detector. The 3- and 5-sigma statistical significance exclusion curves are provided in the model parameter space. It is found that the h…
We describe current and future hadron collider limits on new vector-like leptons with exotic decays. We consider the possibility that, besides standard decays, the new leptons can also decay into a Standard Model charged lepton and a stable particle like a dark photon. To increase their applicability, our results are given in terms of arbitrary branching ratios in the different decay channels. In the case that the dark photon is stable at cosmological scales we discuss the interplay between the dark photon and the vector-like lepton in generating the observed dark matter relic abundance and th…
I discuss the impact of the the coherent parton radiation on semi-inclusive production of hadrons in deep inelastic scattering at lepton-proton colliders. Such radiation can be consistently described in the $b$-space resummation formalism, which was originally developed to improve theoretical description of production of hadrons at $e^+e^-$ colliders and electroweak vector bosons at hadron-hadron colliders. I present the detailed derivation of the resummed cross section and the energy flow at the next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD. The theoretical results are compared to the experimenta…
In this whitepaper, I give a short summary on possible channels of low-mass scenarios and their discovery potential at future $e^+e^-$ colliders. This is a summary of talks I recently gave at the CEPC workshop, FCC week and ECFA future collider workshop.
We summarize the activities of the New Particles Subgroup at the 1996 Snowmass Workshop. We present the expectations for discovery or exclusion of leptoquarks at hadron and lepton colliders in the pair production and single production modes. The indirect detection of a scalar lepton quark at polarized $e^+e^-$ and $μ^+μ^-$ colliders is discussed. The discovery prospects for particles with two units of lepton number is discussed. We summarize the analysis of the single production of neutral heavy leptons at lepton colliders.
We investigate the production of fourth family up-type quarks using effective lagrangian approach at future lepton-hadron colliders and study the kinematical characteristics of the signal with an optimal set of cuts. We obtain the upper mass limits 500 GeV at THERA and one TeV at Linac $\otimes$ LHC.
In the framework of models with R-parity violation, scalar neutrinos and scalar leptons production in the processes $l_i^+l_j^-\to\tilde ν_{k,L} Z^0$ and $l^+_il^-_j\to \tilde{l}^{\mp}_{k,L}W^{\pm}$ is considered. We also consider within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model Higgs bosons production in the processes $μ^+μ^-\toH_i^0Z^0$, $μ^+μ^-\to H^{\pm}W^{\mp}$.
We study the effects of dimension six effective operators on the flavour violating production and decay of leptons at the International Linear Collider. Analytic expressions for the cross sections, decay widths and asymmetries of all flavour changing processes will be presented, as well as an analysis of the feasibility of their observation at the ILC.
We examine the utility of employing polarized lepton (electron and muon) beams to perform indirect searches for scalar leptoquarks. We find that polarization can extend the reach in excluding leptoquark masses for both $e^+e^-$ and $μ^+μ^-$ machines. Polarization can also provide a diagnostic tool for determining leptoquark couplings.
By considering left-right (L-R) asymmetries we study the capabilities of lepton colliders in searching for new exotic vector bosons. Specifically we study the effect of a doubly charged bilepton boson and an extra neutral vector boson appearing in a 3-3-1 model on the L-R asymmetries for the processes $e^-e^-\to e^-e^-$, $μ^-μ^-\toμ^-μ^-$ and $e^-μ^-\to e^-μ^-$ and show that these asymmetries are very sensitive to these new contributions and that they are in fact powerful tools for discovery this sort of vector bosons.
We investigate the potentials of future high energy lepton-proton colliders to detect supersymmetric particles in the charged current type $lp\to\tildeν_l\tilde qX$, $l=e,μ$, reactions. We also study their decays by using the mass spectrum given in the Technical Design Report of ATLAS Collaboration (SUGRA Point 6 corresponding to large $tanβ$).
Many Standard Model extensions can contribute to four-lepton signals at large colliders. We review the particular case of leptophilic interactions eventually observable at the LHC and the ILC, paying special attention to the addition of a new vector boson coupled to muon minus tau lepton number, $Z'_{μ- τ}$, and emphasizing the prospects at a very large hadron collider with $\sqrt s =$ 100 TeV. We also discuss in this case the new contribution to two-lepton (Drell-Yan) production when the new leptophilic interaction has a non-vanishing kinetic mixing with the SM.
Lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes via four-Fermi contact interactions at future International Linear Collider (ILC) are studied. The effective Lagrangian is composed of six-operators, and the LFV effects on both $e^+ e^- \to e^+ \ell^-$ and $e^- e^- \to e^- \ell^-$ ($\ell=μ$ or $τ$) processes can be parametrized by three parameters. Taking account of previous experimental results of LFV processes $μ\to 3e$ and $τ\to 3e$, we find that the upper limits on the LFV parameters for $\ell=τ$ could be improved at the ILC experiment using the polarized electron beam. The improvement of the upper …
Two models that extend the particle content of the SM and provide dark matter candidates, namely the Inert Doublet Model and the Two-Higgs Doublet model with additional pseudoscalar, are confronted with current experimental and theoretical constraints and predictions for production cross sections for various standard pair-production modes within these models at future lepton colliders are presented.
We investigate the sensitivity of future lepton colliders to displaced vertices from the decays of long-lived heavy (almost sterile) neutrinos with electroweak scale masses and detectable time of flight. As future lepton colliders we consider the FCC-ee, the CEPC, and the ILC, searching at the Z-pole and at the center-of-mass energies of 240, 350 and 500 GeV. For a realistic discussion of the detector response to the displaced vertex signal and the Standard Model background we consider the ILC's Silicon Detector (SiD) as benchmark for the future lepton collider detectors. We find that displace…
New heavy charged lepton production and decay signatures at future electron-positron colliders are investigated at $\sqrt {s}=500$ GeV. The consequences of model dependence for vector singlets and vector doublets are studied. Distributions are calculated including hadronization effects and experimental cuts that suppress the standard model background. The final state leptonic energy distributions are shown to give a very clear signature for heavy charged leptons.
We present an implementation of the Yennie--\-Frautschi--\-Suura (YFS) scheme for the all-orders resummation of logarithms from the emission of soft real and virtual photons in processes that are critical for future lepton colliders. They include, in particular, $e^-e^+\to f\bar{f}$ and $e^-e^+\to W^-W^+$, where we validate the results of our implementation, improved with fixed-order corrections, with those obtained from the most precise calculations. We also show, for the first time, results for the Higgs-Strahlungs process, $e^-e^+\to ZH$, in YFS resummation including fixed-order improvement…
The International Linear Collider (ILC) will be able to precisely measure the electroweak couplings of the top in e+e- -> tt~. We compare the limits which can be achieved at the ILC with those which can be obtained in tt~gamma$ and tt~Z production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
Single resonant productions of the fourth standard model generation charged lepton via anomalous interactions at gamma e colliders based on future linear e^+ e^- colliders with 500 GeV and 1 TeV center of mass energies are studied. Signatures of $γe\to \ell_4\to eγ$ and $γe\to \ell_4\to eZ$ anomalous processes followed by the hadronic and leptonic decay of the Z boson and corresponding standard model backgrounds are discussed in details. The lowest necessary luminosities to observe these processes and the achievable values of the anomalous coupling strengths are determined.
We discuss possibilities to measure the tt-gamma and ttZ couplings at hadron and lepton colliders. We also briefly describe how these measurements can be used to constrain the parameter space of models of new physics, in particular Little Higgs models.
We present a study of loop-level lepton flavor vioalting signals in models with heavy Majorana neutrinos and in the supersymmetric extension of the standard model. The attention is focused to the $e^- e^-$ option of the next generation of linear colliders and its potential of discovering new physics is emphasized.
In this talk we present results of an exact calculation of gluon radiation in top production and decay at lepton colliders, including all spin correlations and interferences. We compare properties of gluons radiated in the production and decay stages and investigate the sensitivity of interference effects to the top decay width.
We construct a new gauged $U(1)_\ell$ lepton number model which is anomaly-free for each SM generation. The active neutrino masses are radiatively generated with a minimal scalar sector. The phenomenology and collider signals are studied. The interference effects among the new gauge boson, $Z_\ell$, photon, and $Z$-boson can be probed at the future $e^+e^-$ colliders even if the center-of-mass energy is below the mass of $Z_\ell$. Moreover, the electroweak precision sets a stringent bound on the mass splitting of the new lepton doublets.
It can be expected from the result for the atmospheric neutrino by the SUPERKAMIOKANDE and the CHOOZ result that the the lepton-flavor violating (LFV) interaction between the second and third generations exits at the high energy scale. This leads to a non-vanishing LFV left-handed slepton mass between the second and third generations, induced by the radiative correction, in the minimal supergravity scenario. In this article, assuming that the supersymmetric standard model with the right-handed neutrinos explains the atmospheric neutrino result, we show that the reach of the LFV slepton product…
It is argued that the breakdown of factorization observed recently in the diffractive dijet production in deep inelastic lepton induced and hadron induced processes is naturally explained in the Good-Walker picture of diffraction dissociation. The explicit formula for the hadronic cross-section is given and successfully compared with the existing data.
While it is natural for supersymmetric particles to be well within the mass range of the large hadron collider, it is possible that the sparticle masses could be very heavy. Signatures are examined at a very high energy hadron collider and an very high luminosity option for the Large Hadron Collider in such scenarios.
Parity violating left-right scattering asymmetries at future high energy e+e- and e-e- colliders are examined. The utility of two polarized beams for precision measurements is pointed out. Sensitivity to ``new'' short-distance physics is briefly discussed. Electroweak radiative corrections due to the running of sin^2(theta_W)(q^2) are exhibited.
Vectorlike leptons are an intriguing possibility for physics beyond the Standard Model. We study the reach for discovering (at 5$σ$ significance) or excluding (at 95 per cent confidence) models of charged vectorlike leptons that mix predominantly with the tau, using multi-lepton signatures at various future proton-proton collider options: a high-luminosity LHC with $\sqrt{s} =$ 14 TeV, a high-energy LHC with $\sqrt{s} =$ 27 TeV, and possible new longer-tunnel colliders with $\sqrt{s} =$ 70 or 100 TeV. For weak isodoublet vectorlike leptons, we estimate that a 27 TeV high-energy LHC with 15 ab$…
The tau lepton plays important role in the correlation between the low-energy neutrino oscillation data and the lepton flavor structure in heavy neutrino decay. We investigate the lepton flavor signatures with tau lepton at hadron collider through lepton number violating (LNV) processes. In the Type I Seesaw with U$(1)_{\rm B-L}$ extension, we study the pair production of heavy neutrinos via a $Z'$ resonance. We present a detailed assessment of the search sensitivity to the channels with tau lepton in the subsequent decay of heavy neutrinos. For the benchmark model with $Z'$ only coupled to th…
We study the diagnostic power of future $e^+e^-$ colliders with ${\sqrt {s}} = 500$ GeV (the New Large Collider ($NLC$)) for a model independent determination of the $Z'$ gauge couplings to quarks and leptons. The interference of the $Z'$ propagator with the photon and the $Z$ propagator in the two-fermion final state probes are sensitive to the magnitude as well as relative signs of quark and lepton charges. For $Z'$ with $M_{Z'} \sim 1 $ TeV {\it all } the quark and lepton charges can be determined to around $10-20 \%$, provided heavy flavor tagging and longitudinal polarization of the elect…
A high-energy lepton-lepton collider will give us a unique possibility to study e-gamma and gamma-gamma interactions at high energies. The high-energy photons can be generated by Compton back-scattering of laser light on the high-energy lepton beams. With slightly reduced luminosities for e-gamma and gamma-gamma collisions compared to the lepton-lepton collider one, unique and complementary studies can be performed. A linear lepton-lepton collider also offers other photon sources that will be considered. We will focus on the complex properties of the photon itself and discuss some possibilitie…
We perform a complete simulation of the process $ e^+ e^- \to τ^+ τ^- ν\barν$, where $ν$ can be an electron, muon or tau neutrino, in the context of a general Higgs coupling to $τ$ leptons. We analyse various kinematical distributions and obtain the sensitivity regions in the parameter space that can be explored at a future $e^+ e^-$ collider. In particular, inclusion of $W$ boson fusion enhances the sensitivity significantly.
In this work pair productions of charged and doubly charged scalars in the framework of littlest Higgs model at $e^+e^-$ colliders are studied. In the allowed parameter space of the littlest Higgs model, the production rates of the scalar pairs are calculated. It is obtained that pair productions of charged and doubly charged scalars are reachable at $e^+ e^-$ colliders with energy $\sqrt{S}\geq 1.7TeV$. Using the lepton flavor violating decays of charged scalars calculated in literature, final state analysis is done for pair production processes. This analysis show that depending on the model…
High energy, high luminosity, future lepton colliders, circular or linear, may possibly give us hint about fundamental laws of Nature governing at very short distances and very short time intervals, the same which have brought our Universe to live. Currently considered projects are on one hand linear electron-positron colliders, which offer higher energy and lower beam intensities and on the other hand circular electron-positron colliders, limited in energy but offering tremendous interaction rates. On the far future horizon, muon circular colliders are the only viable projects which can explo…
A method is detailed for the phase space integration of multi-jets cross sections at lepton colliders, applicable to parton level Monte Carlo's at any order in perturbation theory. Other non-jet objects, massless or massive, can be included in the phase space generation. We correlate the bremsstrahlung events in a manner that integrates out all partonic configurations leading to a fixed jet configuration, thereby improving convergence. This also allows the method to extend infra-red safety to the fully differential multi-jet cross section.
This talk gives a brief introduction to open questions in jet physics and QCD which come to the fore in the high-luminosity regime characterizing the upcoming phase of the Large Hadron Collider and future hadron colliders.
