An analysis of the data on forward $pp, \bar pp, π^{\pm}p$ and $K^{\pm}p$ scattering is performed making use of the single- and double-subtraction integral and comparing with derivative dispersion relations for amplitudes. Various pomeron and odderon models for the total cross sections are considered and compared. The real part of the amplitude is calculated via dispersion relations. It is shown that the integral dispersion relations lead to a better description of the data for $\sqrt{s}>$5 GeV. Predictions of the considered models for the TOTEM experiment at LHC energies are given
The extraction of elastic form factors for mesons in the context of the contact interaction model is revisited in this manuscript. The dressed masses of quarks and mesons are determined through the gap and Bethe-Salpeter equations. The generic elastic scattering process $Mγ\to M$ is studied for the meson $M$ formed of two differently flavored quarks. The charge radii of scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial-vector mesons are also extracted by virtue of explicit calculation of the meson elastic form factors.
The processes of exclusive diffractive scattering $p+p\to p+p$, $\bar p+p\to\bar p+p$, and $γ^*+p\to V+p$ at high energies are considered in the framework of a unified Regge-eikonal model with a very simple reggeon structure of the eikonal. It is demonstrated that the pomeron trajectory is universal in all reactions and having intercept about 1.31 which could be exctracted explicitly from the data on the proton structure function $F_2(x,Q^2)$. The predictions for the proton-proton cross-sections at LHC energies are given.
Lepton mass effects play a decisive role in description of elastic lepton-proton scattering when the beam's energy is comparable to the mass of the lepton. The future MUSE experiment, which is devised to solve the "Proton Radius Puzzle", is going to cover the corresponding kinematic region for a scattering of muons by a proton target. We anticipate that helicity-flip meson exchanges will make a difference in comparison of elastic electron-proton versus muon-proton scattering in MUSE. In this article, we estimate the $σ$ meson exchange contribution in the $t$-channel. This contribution, mediate…
A symmetry-preserving approach to the two valence-body continuum bound-state problem is used to calculate the elastic electromagnetic form factors of the $ρ$-meson and subsequently to study the evolution of vector-meson form factors with current-quark mass. To facilitate a range of additional comparisons, $K^\ast$ form factors are also computed. The analysis reveals that: vector mesons are larger than pseudoscalar mesons; composite vector mesons are non-spherical, with magnetic and quadrupole moments that deviate $\sim 30$\% from point-particle values; in many ways, vector-meson properties are…
We apply a subtracted dispersion relation formalism with the aim to improve predictions for the two-photon exchange corrections to elastic electron-proton scattering observables at finite momentum transfers. We study the formalism on the elastic contribution, and make a detailed comparison with existing data for unpolarized cross sections as well as polarization transfer observables.
A new form of two-photon exchange(TPE) effect is studied to explain the discrepancy between unpolarized and polarized experimental data in elastic $ep$ scattering. The mechanism is based on a simple idea that apart from the usual TPE effects from box and crossed-box diagrams, the mesons may also be exchanged in elastic $ep$ scattering by two-photon coupling at loop level. The detailed study shows such contributions to reduced unpolarized cross section ($σ_{un}$) and polarized observables ($P_t,P_l$) at fixed $Q^2$ are only dependent on proton's electromagnetic form factors $G_{E,M}$ and a new …
The two-photon-exchange (TPE) effect plays a key role to extract the form factors (FFs) of the proton. In this work, we present some exact properties on the TPE effect in the elastic $ep$ scattering based on four types of typical and general interactions. The possible kinematical singularities, the asymptotic behaviors and the branch cuts of the TPE amplitudes are analyzed. The analytic expressions clearly indicate some exact relations between the dispersion relation (DR) method and the hadronic model (HM) method. It suggests that the two methods should be modified to general forms, respective…
We analyse the tension between the (indirect) measurements of the total cross section, and show the impact of various assumptions on the extraction of the parameters from the elastic scattering amplitude, with a special attention to the total cross section. In particular, the determination of the phase of the elastic scattering amplitude will play an important role, and we shall study it via dispersion relations. We shall also examine the origin of the dependence on momentum transfer of the slopes of the different parts of the scattering amplitude in different models. We shall also give the re…
We calculate the parameters $x$ and $y$ for the $D$ meson mixing in the Standard Model by considering a dispersion relation between them. The dispersion relation for a fictitious charm quark of arbitrary mass squared $s$ is turned into an inverse problem, via which the mixing parameters at low $s$ are solved with the perturbative inputs $x(s)$ and $y(s)$ from large $s$. It is shown that nontrivial solutions for $x$ and $y$ exist, whose values around the physical charm scale agree with the data in both CP-conserving and CP-violating cases. We then predict the observables $|q/p|-1\approx 2\times…
We calculate elastic and non-elastic electromagnetic form factors for vector and axial-vector mesons in the holographic D4-D8 brane model. We obtain the mass spectrum and Regge trajectories for these particles. From the elastic form factors we extract the electric radius, the magnetic and quadrupole moments. Form factors for transverse and longitudinal polarizations are also obtained. We find superconvergence sum rules for the vector and axial-vector meson couplings that determine the asymptotic behavior of the form factors at large momentum transfer. Our results show good agreement with other…
A continuum approach to quark-antiquark bound-states is used to determine the electromagnetic form factors of pion-like mesons with masses $m_{0^-}/{\rm GeV}=0.14$, $0.47$, $0.69$, $0.83$ on a spacelike domain that extends to $Q^2 \lesssim 10\,$GeV$^2$. The results enable direct comparisons with contemporary lattice-QCD calculations of heavy-pion form factors at large values of momentum transfer and aid in understanding them. They also reveal, inter alia, that the form factor of the physical pion provides the best opportunity for verification of the factorised hard-scattering formula relevant …
The charged-current quasi-elastic (CCQE) scattering of muon neutrinos on a carbon target is analyzed using the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation (RDWIA) taking into account the contribution of the two-particle and two-hole meson exchange current ($2p-2h$ MEC) to the weak response functions. A fit the RDWIA+MEC model to the MiniBooNE neutrino data is performed and the best fit value of nucleon axial mass $M_A=1.2 \pm 0.06$ GeV is obtained. We also extract the values of the axial form factor $F_A(Q^2)$ as a function of the squared momentum transfer $Q^2$ from the measured $dσ/dQ^…
Phenomenological multigauge model of neutrino-nucleon interaction based on chiral symmetry of strong interactions and vector/pseudovector meson dominance model is suggested. It was shown that within the framework of the model the constant of neutron beta decay is formed by meson masses and parameters of the hadronization of fundamental vector bosons. Then, quasi elastic (anti)neutrino-nucleon scattering processes have been investigated and it was found that weak nucleon form factor $G_A(Q^2)$ considered as multipole expansion multiplied on pQCD asymptotes is in a good agreement with experiment…
The parity nonconserving longitudinal analyzing power A_L is calculated in elastic pp scattering at the energies below the approximate inelastic region T_lab = 350 MeV. The short-ranged heavy meson rho and omega exchanges as well as the longer-ranged two pion exchanges are considered as the mediators of the parity nonconserving interactions. The DDH "best" coupling values are used as the parity nonconserving meson-NN couplings. Also three different parity nonconserving two-pion exchange potentials by various authors are compared.
We scrutinize recent findings on the charged-pion elastic form factor and the form factors entering in neutral-meson-to-photons transition amplitudes within the framework of QCD sum rules.
We revisit $F_π(Q^2)$ and $F_{Pγ}(Q^2)$, $P=π,η,η'$, making use of the local-duality (LD) version of QCD sum rules. We give arguments, that the LD sum rule provides reliable predictions for these form factors at $Q^2 \ge 5-6$ GeV$^2$, the accuracy of the method increasing with $Q^2$ in this region. For the pion elastic form factor, the well-measured data at small $Q^2$ give a hint that the LD limit may be reached already at relatively low values of momentum transfers, $Q^2\approx 4-8$ GeV$^2$; we therefore conclude that large deviations from LD in the region $Q^2=20-50$ GeV$^2$ seem very unlik…
Based on a study of the properties of the Lerch's transcendent, exact closed forms of dispersion relations for amplitudes and for derivatives of amplitudes in pp and pp scattering are introduced. Exact and complete expressions are written for the real parts and for their derivatives at $t=0$ based on given inputs for the energy dependence of the total cross sections and of the slopes of the imaginary parts. The results are prepared for application in the analysis of forward scattering data of the pp and pp systems at all energies, where exact and precise representations can be written.
We consider nucleon-nucleon (NN) interactions from chiral effective field theory. In this work we restrict ourselves to the elastic NN scattering. We apply the N/D method to calculate the NN partial waves taking as input the one-pion exchange discontinuity along the left-hand cut. This discontinuity is amenable to a chiral power counting as discussed by Lacour, Oller and Meissner [Ann. Phys. (NY) 326, 241 (2011)], with one-pion exchange as its leading order contribution. The resulting linear integral equation for a partial wave with orbital angular momentum L>=2 is solved in the presence of L-…
