We review our recent study of the pion mass dependence of the rho and sigma resonances, generated from one-loop SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) with the Inverse Amplitude Method (IAM). In order to properly account for the Adler zero region, we also review the recently obtained modified version of the IAM; which is based on analyticity, elastic unitarity and ChPT at low energies, thus yielding the correct pion mass dependence of the resonance pole positions up to next-to-leading order in ChPT. As main results we find that the rho-pi-pi coupling constant is almost pion mass independent and that the rho mass shows a smooth pion mass dependence while that of the sigma shows a strong non-analyticity. These findings are important for studies of the meson spectrum on the lattice.
We study the D^{+} -> sigma pi^{+}, D^{+} -> rho^0 pi^{+}, B^{-} -> sigma pi^{-}, B^{-} -> rho^0 pi^{-} and \bar{B}^0 -> rho^{\pm} pi^{\mp} decays in a valence quark triangle model, incorporating chiral symmetries. We find a good agreement with recent experimental data for D^{+} -> sigma pi^{+} and for D^{+} -> rho^0 pi^{+}. We point out that a "long-distance" contribution due to the axial vector a_1 meson pole, calculated by using chiral symmetry, can be relevant to explain D^{+}-> rho^0 π^{+} and for lowering the ratio R=Br(\bar{B}^0 -> rho^{\pm} pi^{\mp})/Br(B^{-} -> rho^0 pi^{-}) to be con…
The coupling constant g_{rho sigma gamma} is determined from light cone QCD sum rules. A comparison of our result with the ones existing in literature is presented.
We calculate the branching ratio of omega --> pi^+ pi^- gamma decay in a phenomenological framework in which the contributions of VMD, chiral loops, sigma-meson intermediate state amplitudes and the effects of omega-rho mixing are considered. We conclude that the sigma-meson intermediate state amplitude and omega-rho mixing make substantial contribution to the branching ratio.
We review our work on the rho and sigma resonances derived from the Inverse Amplitude Method. In particular, we study the leading 1/N_c behavior of the resonances masses and widths and their evolution with changing m_pi. The 1/N_c expansion gives a clear definition of quark-antiquark states, which is neatly satisfied by the rho but not by the sigma, showing that its dominant component is not quark-antiquark. The m_pi dependence of the resonance properties is relevant to connect with lattice studies. We show that our predictions compare well with some lattice results and we find that the rho-pi…
The chiral limit of the rho and sigma masses and widths is discussed. We work within the inverse amplitude method to one loop in SU(2) ChPT and analyze the consequences that all chiral logarithms cancel out in the rho-channel, while they do not cancel for the sigma case, and how they strongly influence the properties of this latter resonance. Our results confirm and explain the different behavior of the sigma and rho poles for NC not far from 3, but we extend the analysis to very large NC, where the behavior of these two resonances is re-analyzed. We note that the rather natural requirement of…
We study the radiative $ρ^0\to π^+π^-γ$ and $ρ^0\to π^0π^0γ$ decays and we calculate their branching ratios using a phenomenological approach by adding to the amplitude calculated within the framework of chiral perturbation theory and vector meson dominance the amplitude of $σ$-meson intermediate state. Our results for the branching ratios are in good agreement with the experimental values.
We study the p(e,e' pi+)n reaction in the framework of an effective Lagrangian approach including nucleon, pi and rho meson degrees of freedom and show the importance of the rho-meson t-pole contribution to sigmaT, the transverse part of cross section. We test two different field representations of the rho meson, vector and tensor, and find that the tensor representation of the rho meson is more reliable in the description of the existing data. In particular, we show that the rho-meson t-pole contribution, including the interference with an effective non-local contact term, sufficiently improv…
We study the pion mass dependence of the rho(770) and f_0(600) masses and widths from one and two-loop unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory. We show the consistency of one-loop calculations with lattice results for the M_rho, f_pi and the isospin 2 scattering length a_20.Then, we develop and apply the modified Inverse Amplitude Method formalism for two-loop ChPT. In contrast to the f_0(600), the rho(770) is rather sensitive to the two-loop ChPT parameters --our main source of systematic uncertainty. We thus provide two-loop unitarized fits constrained by lattice information on M_rho, f_pi, by…
We propose to use rich informations on the pp, pbar p total cross sections sigma below N=10 GeV in order to predict the total cross section and rho ratio at very high energies. Using the FESR as a constraint for high energy parameters, we search for the simultaneous best fit to the data points of sigma and rho ratio up to some energy (e.g., ISR, Tevatron) to determine the high-energy parameters. We then predict sigma and rho in the LHC and high-energy cosmic-ray regions. Using the data up to sqrt s =1.8 TeV(Tevatron), we predict sigma(pp) and rho(pp) at the LHC energy(sqrt s = 14 TeV) as 106.3…
We critically review the QCD predictions for the cross sections sigma_L and sigma_T for diffractive rho meson electroproduction in longitudinally and transversely polarised states in the HERA energy region. We show that both perturbative and non-perturbative approaches which involve convolution with the rho meson wave function predict values of sigma_T which fall-off too quickly with increasing Q^2, in comparison with the data. We present a perturbative QCD model based on the open production of light qqbar pairs and parton-hadron duality, which describes all features of the data for rho electr…
We calculate the amplitudes of J^{PC}=3^{--} meson production in diffractive DIS within the k_t-factorization approach, with a particular attention paid to the rho_3(1690) meson. We find that at all Q^2 the rho_3(1690) production cross section is 2-5 times smaller than the rho(1700) production cross section, which is assumed to be a pure D-wave state. Studying sigma_L and sigma_T separately, we observe domination of rho_3 in sigma_L and domination of rho(1700) in sigma_T and offer an explanation of this behavior in simple terms. We also find very strong contributions -- sometimes even dominati…
We study forward and backward pi-pi scattering within a QCD model based on the Dyson--Schwinger, Bethe--Salpeter equations truncated to the rainbow-ladder level. Our microscopic relativistic quark formulation preserves chiral symmetry and reproduces the observed scattering lengths for total isospin zero, one and two. At higher energies both scalar and vector meson resonances naturally occur in the scattering amplitudes. We also report a comparative study with phenomenological meson-exchange models and find such approaches are reasonable especially near pi-pi resonances.
We study the temperature evolution of the rho and sigma mass and width, using a unitary chiral approach. The one-loop pion-pion scattering amplitude in Chiral Perturbation Theory at finite temperature is unitarized via the Inverse Amplitude Method. Our results predict a clear increase with T of both the rho and sigma widths. The masses decrease slightly for high T, while the rho-pion-pion coupling increases. The rho behavior seems to be favored by experimental results. In the sigma case, it signals chiral symmetry restoration.
We review our recent study of the pion mass dependence of the rho and sigma resonances generated from one-loop SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) with the Inverse Amplitude Method (IAM) which was modified to properly account for the Adler zero. The method is based on analyticity, elastic unitarity and ChPT at low energies, thus yielding the pion mass dependence of the resonance pole positions from the ChPT series up to a given order. We find that the rho-pi-pi coupling constant is almost m_pi independent and that our prediction compare well with some recent lattice results for the rho mas…
We present our recent results for the rho and sigma mesons considered as resonances in pion-pion scattering in a thermal bath. We use chiral perturbation theory to fourth order in p for the low energy behaviour, then extend the analysis via the unitarization method of the Inverse Amplitude into the resonance region. The width of the rho broadens about twice the amount required by phase space considerations alone, its mass staying practically constant up to temperatures of order 150 MeV. The sigma meson behaves in accordance to chiral symmetry restoration expectations.
We use the one-loop Chiral Perturbation Theory pion-pion scattering amplitude and dispersion theory in the form of the inverse amplitude method, to study the quark mass dependence of the two lightest resonances of the strong interactions, the f_0(600) (sigma) and the rho-meson. As main results we find that the rho-pion-pion coupling constant is almost quark mass independent and that the rho mass shows a smooth quark mass dependence while that of the sigma shows a strong non-analyticity. These findings are important for studies of the meson spectrum on the lattice.
We propose a new constraint(1) corresponding to the FESR (with the moment n=-1) free from unphysical regions. Using this constraint(1) together with the constraint(2) (with the moment n=1), we search for the simultaneous best fit to the data points of sigma-tot and rho ratio up to the SPS energies to determine those values at higher energies. We then predict sigma-tot=107.1 +- 2.6 mb, rho=0.127 +- 0.004 at the LHC energy(E=14 TeV).
Based on duality, we previously proposed to use rich informations on pi p total cross sections below N=10GeV in addition to high-energy data in order to discriminate whether these cross sections increase like log nu or log2 nu at high energies. We then arrived at the conclusion that our analysis prefers the log2 nu behaviours. Using the FESR as a constraint for high energy parameters also for the pp, pbar p scattering, we search for the simultaneous best fit to the data points of sigma(tot) and rho ratio up to some energy (e.g., ISR, Tevatron) to determine the high-energy parameters. We then p…
We use perturbative QCD and parton-hadron duality to estimate the cross sections for the diffractive electroproduction of rhoprime(1-) and rho(3-) resonances which occur in the 1.3-1.8 GeV mass interval. We present the cross sections and the ratios sigma_L/sigma_T as a function of Q^2. We compare the predictions with those for the diffractive electroproduction of rho mesons. We show how such diffractive electroproduction measurements at HERA can probe features of the perturbative QCD 'Pomeron'.
In an attempt to explain the latest experimental result about the branching ratio of $ω\to π^0π^0γ$ decay we reexamine the decay mechanism of this decay in a phenomenological framework in which the contributions of VMD, chiral loops, $σ$-meson intermediate state amplitudes and the effects of $ω-ρ$ mixing are considered. We conclude that in order to obtain the experimental value of the branching ratio $B(ω\to π^0π^0γ)$ $σ$-meson amplitude which makes a substantial contribution should be included into the reaction mechanism and the effects of $ω-ρ$ mixing should be taken into account. We also es…
We present a detailed analysis of rho(0) electroproduction at intermediate energy for quasi-elastic knockout kinematics. The approach is based on an effective Lagrangian which generates exchanges of scalar, pseudoscalar, axial-vector and tensor mesons. The specific role of mesons with different values for J(PC) is analyzed. We show that the pi(0) exchange amplitude and its interference terms with eta(eta') and f1 exchanges dominate in the transverse part of the cross section sigmaT. The main role plays the pi(0) to rho(0) M1 spin transition when coupling the virtual photons to the nucleon. In …
We investigate the determination of the $σ$ pole from $ππ$ scattering data below the $K\bar{K}$ threshold, including the new precise results obtained from $K_{e4}$ decay by NA48/2 Collaboration. We discuss also the experimental status of the threshold parameters $a_0^0$ and $b_0^0$ and the phase shift $δ_0^0$. In order to reduce the theoretical bias, we use a large class of analytic parametrizations of the isoscalar $S$-wave, based on expansions in powers of conformal variables. The $σ$ pole obtained with this method is consistent with the prediction based on ChPT and Roy equations. However, t…
Complex poles of the unitarized pi-pi scattering amplitude in nuclear matter are studied. Partial restoration of chiral symmetry is modeled by the decrease of in-medium pion decay constant f*_{pi}. For large chiral restoration (f*_{pi}/f_{pi} << 1), 2nd sheet poles in the scalar (sigma) and the vector (rho) mesons are both dictated by the Lambert W function and show universal softening as f*_{pi} decreases. In-medium pi-pi cross section receives substantial contribution from the soft mode and exhibits a large enhancement in low-energy region. Fate of this universality for small chiral restorat…
If the phase transition of $QCD$ at nonzero temperature is dominated by the (approximate) restoration of chiral symmetry, then the transition might be characterized using a gauged linear sigma model. Assuming that vector meson dominance holds, such sigma models predict that at the temperature of chiral restoration, the pole mass of the thermal $ρ$ meson is greater than that at zero temperature; in the chiral limit and in weak coupling this mass is $\sim 962 \, MeV$. The width of the thermal $ρ-a_1$ peak is estimated to be about $200 - 250 \, MeV$.
The masses of heavy baryons containing a b quark have been calculated numerically in lattice QCD with pion masses which are much larger than its physical value. In the present work we extrapolate these lattice data to the physical mass of the pion by applying the effective chiral Lagrangian for heavy baryons, which is invariant under chiral symmetry when the light quark masses go to zero and heavy quark symmetry when the heavy quark masses go to infinity. A phenomenological functional form with three parameters, which has the correct behavior in the chiral limit and appropriate behavior when t…
We study the effect of the sigma(600) and a_1(1260) resonances in the rho^0 -> pi^+ pi^- gamma decay, within the meson dominance model. Major effects are driven by the mass and width parameters of the sigma(600), and the usually neglected contribution of the a_1(1260), although small by itself, may become sizable through its interference with pion bremsstrahlung, and the proper relative sign can favor the central value of the experimental branching ratio. We present a procedure, using the gauge invariant structure of the resonant amplitudes, to kinematically enhance the resonant effects in the…
The complementarity between Chiral Perturbation Theory and the Linear Sigma Model in the scalar channel is exploited to study $π^0π^0$ production in $ρ$ and $ω$ radiative decays, where the effects of a low mass scalar resonance $σ(500)$ should manifest. The recently reported data on $ρ\toπ^0π^0γ$ seem to require the contribution of a low mass and moderately narrow $σ(500)$. The properties of this controversial state could be fixed by improving the accuracy of these measurements. Data on $ω\toπ^0π^0γ$ can also be accommodated in our framework, but are much less sensitive to the $σ(500)$ propert…
We report a new analysis of lattice simulation results for octet baryon masses in 2+1-flavor QCD, with an emphasis on a precise determination of the strangeness nucleon sigma term. A controlled chiral extrapolation of a recent PACS-CS Collaboration data set yields baryon masses which exhibit remarkable agreement both with experimental values at the physical point and with the results of independent lattice QCD simulations at unphysical meson masses. Using the Feynman-Hellmann relation, we evaluate sigma commutators for all octet baryons. The small statistical uncertainty, and considerably smal…
Based on the previous approach, we have investigated a possibility to resolve the discrepancy between the E710, E811 and CDF at sqrt s =1.8TeV, using the experimental data of the pp, pbar p total cross sections sigma tot(+) and rho(+)$ ratio up to the SPS experiments (sqrt s = 0.9TeV) as inputs. We predict sigma tot(pbar p) and rho(pbar p) at the Tevatron energy(sqrt s=1.8TeV) as sigma tot(pbar p)=75.9+- 1.0mb, rho(pbar p)=0.136+- 0.005. It turns out that only the data of E710 is consistent with the prediction in the one standard deviation. So we can conclude that E710 is preferable but we can…
One-loop unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory (UChPT) calculations, suggest a different Nc behaviour for the sigma or f_0(600) and rho(770) mesons: while the rho meson becomes narrower with Nc, as is expected for a q-qbar meson, the sigma becomes broader, and its contribution to the total cross section is less and less important. On the other hand, local duality requires a cancellation between the sigma and rho amplitudes, but if there is a different Nc behaviour for them, there is a possible contradiction between the Inverse Amplitude Method (IAM) and local duality for large Nc. However, nex…
We calculate the P0 to gamma gamma, V0 to P0 gamma and V0to V'0 gamma gamma decays in the framework of a U(3)xU(3) linear sigma model which includes constituent quarks. For the first two decays this approach improves results based on the anomalous Wess-Zumino term, with contributions due to SU(3) symmetry breaking and vector mixing. The phi to (omega, rho) gamma gamma decays are dominated by resonant eta' exchange . Our calculation for the later decays improves and update similar calculations in the -closely related- framework of vector meson dominance. We obtain BR(phi to rho gamma gamma)=2.5x…
We re-examine the issue of the pQCD factorization scale in the exclusive rho production in diffractive DIS from the k_t-factorization point of view. We find that this scale differs significantly from, and possesses much flatter Q^2 behavior than widely used value (Q^2 + m_ρ^2)/4. With these results in mind, we discuss the Q^2 shape of the rho meson production cross section. We introduce rescaled cross sections, which might provide further insight into the dynamics of rho production. We also comment on the recent ZEUS observation of energy-independent ratio sigma(gamma* p --> rho p) / sigma_{to…
We study photoproduction of rho mesons in a model of hidden local symmetry. The rho meson is introduced as a hidden gauge boson and a phenomenological rho meson-nucleon Lagrangian is constructed respecting chiral symmetry. It is shown that the sigma exchange interaction is needed for neutral rho meson photoproduction to reproduce the experimental cross sections. For charged rho meson photoproduction, the model takes into account the rho meson magnetic moments from the three-point vertex in the kinetic terms. We show that the magnetic moment of the charged rho meson has a significant effect on …
Within the k_t-factorization framework, we study diffractive production of orbitally excited vector mesons and compare it with the production of radial excitations, focusing on the rho(1450)/rho(1700) case. At small Q^2, orbital excitation of light quarkonia is found to dominate over radial excitations in diffractive production. We predict strong suppression of the production of orbital excitations by longitudinal photons, which leads to very small sigma_L/sigma_T ratio. At small Q^2, the s-channel helicity violating transitions contribute \sim 10-15% of the transverse cross section and \sim 5…
Results on elastic vector meson production at HERA are presented in the framework of perturbative QCD. The energy dependence of the cross section for J/Psi photoproduction and for rho electroproduction is studied. A full polarisation analysis, including the measurement of the 15 elements of the spin density matrix and of R=sigma_L/sigma_T, is presented for rho electroproduction. Finally heavier vector mesons (Psi' and Upsilon) production is discussed.
A calculation of the current-quark mass dependence of hadron masses can help in using observational data to place constraints on the variation of nature's fundamental parameters. A hadron's sigma-term is a measure of this dependence. The connection between a hadron's sigma-term and the Feynman-Hellmann theorem is illustrated with an explicit calculation for the pion using a rainbow-ladder truncation of the Dyson-Schwinger equations: in the vicinity of the chiral limit sigma_pi = m_pi/2. This truncation also provides a decent estimate of sigma_rho because the two dominant self-energy correction…
Both scalar and vector light resonances can be generated from the unitarization of one-loop chiral perturbation theory. This amounts to using in a dispersion relation the chiral expansion, which incorporates the correct QCD quark mass dependence. We can thus predict the quark mass dependence of the poles associated to those light resonances. Our results compare well with some recent lattice results for the rho(770) mass and can be used as a benchmark for future lattice results on the rho(770) or the f0(600) also known as the sigma.
A consistent description of $σ(500)$ meson effects in $ρ^0\toπ^0π^0γ$ and $π^+π^-γ$ decays is proposed in terms of reasonably simple amplitudes which reproduce the expected chiral-loop behaviour for large $m_σ$ values. For the neutral case, in addition to the well known $ω$ exchange, there is an important contribution from the $σ(500)$ meson that is in agreement with recent experimental data. For the charged case, where the dominant contribution comes from bremsstrahlung, the effects of the $σ(500)$ meson are relevant only at high values of the photon energy and compatible with present data. A…
The $σ$ meson exchange model for $ρ$ photoproduction at low energies is re-examined and a new model is developed by considering explicit two-pion exchange and the $f_2$ tensor meson exchange. The $f_2$ exchange model, which is motivated by the low energy proton-proton elastic scattering, is constructed by fully taking into account of the tensor structure of the $f_2$ meson interactions. Phenomenological informations together with tensor meson dominance and vector meson dominance assumptions are used to estimate the $f_2$ meson's coupling constants. For $2π$ exchange, the loop terms including i…
A model is developed for electromagnetic form factor of the pion. One-loop corrections are included in the linear sigma-model. The rho-meson contribution is added in an extended VMD model. The form factor, calculated without fitting parameters, is in a good agreement with experiment for space-like and time-like photon momenta. Loop corrections to the two-pion hadronic contribution a^{(had, π)}_μto the muon anomalous magnetic moment are calculated. The optimal value of the sigma-meson mass appears to be close to the rho-meson mass.
We give a general formula for the cross section for diffractive vector meson electroproduction, gamma^* p -> Vp. We first calculate diffractive qqbar production, and then use parton-hadron duality by projecting out the J^P = 1^- state in the appropriate mass interval. We compare the Q^2 dependence of the cross section for the diffractive production of rho and J/psi mesons with recent HERA data. We include the characteristic Q^2 dependence associated with the use of the skewed gluon distribution. We give predictions for sigma_L/sigma_T for both rho and J/psi production.
Two-pion induced self-energy contributions to the $ρ$-meson mass are examined in relation to the quenched approximation of QCD, where the physics associated with two-pion intermediate states has been excluded from vector-isovector correlation functions. Corrections to quenched QCD calculations of the $ρ$-meson mass are estimated to be small at the order of a few percent of the $ρ$-meson mass. The two-pion contributions display nonanalytic behavior as a function of the pion mass as the two-pion cut is encountered. The implications of this nonanalytic behavior in extrapolations of full QCD calcu…
We use recent results for the gamma*L -> rhoL and gamma*T -> rhoT impact factors, computed in the impact parameter representation within the collinear factorization scheme, to get predictions for the polarized cross-sections sigmaT and sigmaL of the diffractive leptoproduction of the rho meson at high energy. In this approach the helicity amplitude is a convolution of the scattering amplitude of a color dipole with a target, together with the virtual gamma wave function and with the first moments of the rho meson wave function (in the transverse momentum space), given by the distribution ampli…
Given Brown/Rho scaling we thought of the mesons which are observed in Nambu-Jona Lasinio theory as collective modes. The pi, sigma, rho and A_1, should go smoothly through T_c as the temperature rose, going massless as T comes to T_c.
The low-energy S-wave pi N and K N scatterings are studied by the K-matrix approach within the meson exchange framework. The t-channel meson exchanges, especially rho and sigma exchanges, are found to play a very important role in these two processes. The t-channel rho exchange determines the isospin structure of the scattering amplitudes, it gives attractive force in the low isospin state but repulsive force in the high isospin state. The t-channel sigma exchange gives a very large contribution in these two processes, while it is negligible in meson-meson S-wave scatterings.
We reconstruct the neutrino mass matrix in the flavor basis, using all available experimental data on neutrino oscillations. Majorana nature of neutrinos, normal mass hierarchy (ordering) and validity of the LMA MSW solution of the solar neutrino problem are assumed. We study dependences of the mass matrix elements, m_{alpha beta}, on the CP violating Dirac, delta, and Majorana, rho, sigma, phases, for different values of the mixing angle theta_{13} and of the absolute mass scale, m_1. The contours of constant mass in the rho-sigma plane have been constructed for all m_{alpha beta}. These rho-…
We review our studies on the rho and sigma resonances properties derived from the Inverse Amplitude Method. In particular, we study the leading $1/N_c$ behavior of the resonances masses and widths and their evolution with changing $m_π$. The $1/N_c$ expansion gives a clear definition of $\bar qq$ states, which is neatly satisfied by the $ρ$ but not by the sigma, showing that its dominant component is not $\bar qq$. The $m_π$ dependence of the resonance properties is relevant to connect with lattice studies. We show that our predictions compare well with some lattice results and we find that th…
We calculate the lower moments of the deep-inelastic structure functions of the pion and the rho meson on the lattice. Of particular interest to us are the spin-dependent structure functions of the rho. The calculations are done with Wilson fermions and for three values of the quark mass, so that we can perform an extrapolation to the chiral limit.
We calculate pion-pion scattering lengths and sigma, rho and a1 decay widths from a gauged linear sigma model with two flavours and its globally invariant generalisation.
We extend the method of infrared regularization to spin-1 fields. As applications, we discuss the chiral extrapolation of the rho meson mass from lattice QCD data and the pion-rho sigma term.
We present a phenomenological model for the helicity amplitudes T11 and T00 of the rho meson exclusive diffractive leptoproduction in the forward limit. This model leads to a very good description of the polarized cross-sections sigmaT and sigmaL when compared to HERA data. This model is based on the impact factor representation of the helicity amplitudes. The gamma* -> rho impact factor is computed within the light-cone collinear factorization scheme, the impact parameter space representation allowing to factorize out the dipole-target amplitude. Finally our description combines a model for t…
We present a new and improved model independent amplitude analysis of reactions $π^+ n_\uparrow \to π^+ π^- p$ at 5.98 and 11.85 GeV/c and $π^- p_\uparrow \to π^- π^+ n$ at 17.2 GeV/c measured with transversely polarized targets at the CERN Proton Synchrotron. A clear signal for $σ(750)$ resonance emerges in all four solutions for $S$-wave intensity $I_S$ at 5.98 and 11.85 GeV/c and in both solutions for $S$-wave amplitude $|\overline S|^2Σ$ at 17.2 GeV/c. Its $π^+π^-$ decay width is estimated to be in the range 200--300 MeV. We find significant suppression of $ρ^0$ production in the amplitude…
Recently we obtained the evidence for the existence of sigma(600) meson, which had been sought but missing for a long time, by reanalyzing the I=0 S-wave pi pi scattering phase shift. The sigma-existence was also suggested through the analyses of pi pi production processes, pp central collision pp to pp pi^0 pi^0 and J/psi to omega pi pi decay. The observed properties through these works of sigma meson satisfy the mass and width relation of SU(2) linear sigma model. The physical origin of the repulsive background phase shift delta_{BG}, which was essential to lead to the sigma-existence in our…
We extend the "hard wall" gravity dual of QCD by including tensor fields b_{MN} that correspond to the QCD quark bilinear operators qbar sigma^{mu nu} q. These fields give rise to a spectrum of states which include the h_1 and b_1 mesons, as well as a tower of excited omega/rho meson states. We also identify the lowest-dimension term which leads to mixing between the new rho states and the usual tower of rho mesons when chiral symmetry is broken.
We present results from quenched lattice QCD for the form factors for the decay $B\toρlν$. The calculations are performed using a nonperturbatively improved action and operators at two values of the lattice spacing. The bottom quark mass is reached by extrapolation from simulations performed with heavy quark masses around the charm mass. Our primary result is for the partially integrated decay rate $Γ_{PI}$ over the range $12.7\gev^2 < q^2 < 18.2\gev^2$: Γ_PI = (4.9^{+12}_{-10}{+0}_{-14}) X 10^12 s^-1
We estimate effects of the final state interactions in B -> pi pi decays coming from rescattering of pi pi via exchange of rho, sigma, f_0 mesons. Then we include the rho rho rescattering via exchange of pi, omega, a_1 mesons and finally we consider contributions of the a_1 pi rescattering via exchange of rho. The absorptive parts of amplitudes for these processes are determined. In the case of pi^+ pi^- decay mode, due to model uncertainties, the calculated contribution is |M_A| =< 1.7 x 10^-8 GeV. This produces a small relative strong phase for the tree and color-suppressed B -> pi pi amplit…
We revisit the suggestion that charged rho-mesons undergo Bose-Einstein condensation in isospin-rich nuclear matter. Using a simple version of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model, we conclude that rho-meson condensation is either avoided or postponed to isospin chemical potentials much higher than the rho-meson mass as a consequence of the repulsive interaction with the preformed pion condensate. In order to support our numerical results, we work out a linear sigma model for pions and rho-mesons, showing that the two models lead to similar patterns of medium dependence of meson masses. As a byp…
Assuming the two diquark structure for the pentaquark state as advocated in the Jaffe-Wilczek model, there exist exotic parity-even anti-sextet and parity-odd triplet heavy pentaquark baryons. The theoretical estimate of charmed and bottom pentaquark masses is quite controversial and it is not clear whether the ground-state heavy pentaquark lies above or below the strong-decay threshold. We study the weak transitions of heavy pentaquark states using the light-front quark model. In the heavy quark limit, heavy-to-heavy pentaquark transition form factors can be expressed in terms of three Isgur-…
