Sparsity and non-Euclidean embeddings

We present a relation between sparsity and non-Euclidean isomorphic embeddings. We introduce a general restricted isomorphism property and show how it enables to construct embeddings of $\ell_p^n$, $p > 0$, into various type of Banach or quasi-Banach spaces. In particular, for $0 <r < p<2$ with $r \le 1$, we construct a family of operators that embed $\ell_p^n$ into $\ell_r^{(1+η)n}$, with optimal polynomial bounds in $η>0$.

Sharp Sobolev type embeddings on the entire Euclidean space

A comprehensive approach to Sobolev-type embeddings, involving arbitrary rearrangement- invariant norms on the entire Euclidean space R^n, is offered. In particular, the optimal target space in any such embedding is exhibited. Explicit Euclidean Embeddings in Permutation Invariant Normed Spaces

Let $(X,\left\Vert \cdot \right\Vert )$ be a real normed space of dimension $N\in \mathbb{N}$ with a basis $(e_{i})_{1}^{N}$ such that the norm is invariant under coordinate permutations. Assume for simplicity that the basis constant is at most $2$. Consider any $n\in \mathbb{N}$ and $0<\varepsilon <1/4$ such that $n\leq c(\log \varepsilon ^{-1})^{-1}\log N$. We provide an explicit construction of a matrix that generates a $(1+\varepsilon )$ embedding of $\ell _{2}^{n}$ into $X$.

Extension and embedding theorems for Campanato spaces on $C^{0,γ}$ domains

We consider Campanato spaces with exponents $λ, p$ on domains of class $C^{0,γ}$ in the N-dimensional Euclidean space endowed with a natural anisotropic metric depending on $γ$. We discuss several results including the appropriate Campanato's embedding theorem and we prove that functions of those spaces can be extended to the whole of the Euclidean space without deterioration of the exponents $λ, p$.

Gelfand numbers related to structured sparsity and Besov space embeddings with small mixed smoothness

We consider the problem of determining the asymptotic order of the Gelfand numbers of mixed-(quasi-)norm embeddings $\ell^b_p(\ell^d_q) \hookrightarrow \ell^b_r(\ell^d_u)$ given that $p \leq r$ and $q \leq u$, with emphasis on cases with $p\leq 1$ and/or $q\leq 1$. These cases turn out to be related to structured sparsity. We obtain sharp bounds in a number of interesting parameter constellations. The Euclidean distortion of the lamplighter group

We show that the cyclic lamplighter group $C_2 \bwr C_n$ embeds into Hilbert space with distortion ${\rm O}(\sqrt{\log n})$. This matches the lower bound proved by Lee, Naor and Peres in \cite{LeeNaoPer}, answering a question posed in that paper. Thus the Euclidean distortion of $C_2 \bwr C_n$ is $Θ(\sqrt{\log n})$. Almost bi--Lipschitz embeddings using covers of balls centred at the origin

In 2010, Olson \& Robinson [Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, 362(1), 145-168] introduced the notion of an almost homogeneous metric space and showed that if $X$ is a subset of a Hilbert space such that $X-X$ is almost homogeneous, then $X$ admits almost bi--Lipschitz embeddings into Euclidean spaces. In this paper, we extend this result and we show that if $X$ is a subset of a Banach space such that $X-X$ is almost homogeneous at the origin, then $X$ can be embedded in a Euclidean space in an almost bi--Lipschitz way.
