We derive a multiplication law for free non-hermitian random matrices allowing for an easy reconstruction of the two-dimensional eigenvalue distribution of the product ensemble from the characteristics of the individual ensembles. We define the corresponding non-hermitian S transform being a natural generalization of the Voiculescu S transform. In addition we extend the classical hermitian S transform approach to deal with the situation when the random matrix ensemble factors have vanishing mean including the case when both of them are centered. We use planar diagrammatic techniques to derive these results.
We review methods to calculate eigenvalue distributions of products of large random matrices. We discuss a generalization of the law of free multiplication to non-Hermitian matrices and give a couple of examples illustrating how to use these methods in practice. In particular we calculate eigenvalue densities of products of Gaussian Hermitian and non-Hermitian matrices including combinations of GUE and Ginibre matrices.
We demonstrate that complex point transformations can be used to construct non-Hermitian first integrals, time-dependent Dyson maps and metric operators for non-Hermitian quantum systems. Initially we identify a point transformation as a map from an exactly solvable time-independent system to an explicitly time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian system. Subsequently we employ the point transformation to construct the non-Hermitian time-dependent invariant for the latter system. Exploiting the fact that this invariant is pseudo-Hermitian, we construct a corresponding Dyson map as the adjoint a…

We propose time-dependent Darboux (supersymmetric) transformations that provide a scheme for the calculation of explicitly time-dependent solvable non-Hermitian partner Hamiltonians. Together with two Hermitian Hamilitonians the latter form a quadruple of Hamiltonians that are related by two time-dependent Dyson equations and two intertwining relations in form of a commutative diagram. Our construction is extended to the entire hierarchy of Hamiltonians obtained from time dependent Darboux-Crum transformations. As an alternative approach we also discuss the intertwining relations for Lewis-Rie…
Using the Cayley-Dickson construction we rephrase and review the non-hermitian diagrammatic formalism [R. A. Janik, M. A. Nowak, G. Papp and I. Zahed, Nucl.Phys. B $\textbf{501}$, 603 (1997)], that generalizes the free probability calculus to asymptotically large non-hermitian random matrices. The main object in this generalization is a quaternionic extension of the R transform which is a generating function for planar (non-crossing) cumulants. We demonstrate that the quaternionic R transform generates all connected averages of all distinct powers of $X$ and its hermitian conjugate $X^\dagger$…

A non-commuting measurement transfers, via the apparatus, information encoded in a system's state to the external "observer". Classical measurements determine properties of physical objects. In the quantum realm, the very same notion restricts the recording process to orthogonal states as only those are distinguishable by measurements. Therefore, even a possibility to describe physical reality by means of non-hermitian operators should \emph{volens nolens} be excluded as their eigenstates are not orthogonal. Here, we show that non-hermitian operators with real spectrum can be treated within th…
A non-Hermitian generalized oscillator model, generally known as the Swanson model, has been studied in the framework of R-deformed Heisenberg algebra. The non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is diagonalized by generalized Bogoliubov transformation. A set of deformed creation annihilation operators is introduced whose algebra shows that the transformed Hamiltonian has conformal symmetry. The spectrum is obtained using algebraic technique. The superconformal structure of the system is also worked out in detail. An anomaly related to the spectrum of the Hermitian counterpart of the non-Hermitian Hamiltoni…
A class of non-Hermitian quadratic su(2) Hamiltonians having an anti-linear symmetry is constructed. This is achieved by analysing the possible symmetries of such systems in terms of automorphisms of the algebra. In fact, different realisations for this type of symmetry are obtained, including the natural occurrence of charge conjugation together with parity and time reversal. Once specified the underlying anti-linear symmetry of the Hamiltonian, the former, if unbroken, leads to a purely real spectrum and the latter can be mapped to a Hermitian counterpart by, amongst other possibilities, a s…
For any Hermitian Lie group G of tube type we construct a Fock model of its minimal representation. The Fock space is defined on the minimal nilpotent K_C-orbit X in p_C and the L^2-inner product involves a K-Bessel function as density. Here K is a maximal compact subgroup of G, and g_C=k_C+p_C is a complexified Cartan decomposition. In this realization the space of k-finite vectors consists of holomorphic polynomials on X. The reproducing kernel of the Fock space is calculated explicitly in terms of an I-Bessel function. We further find an explicit formula of a generalized Segal-Bargmann tran…
Uhlmann showed that there exists a positive, unital and trace-preserving map transforming a Hermitian matrix $A$ into another $B$ if and only if the vector of eigenvalues of $A$ majorizes that of $B$. In this work I characterize the existence of such a transformation when one of the conditions of unitality or trace preservation is dropped. This induces two possible preorders in the set of Hermitian matrices and I argue how this can be used to construct measures quantifying the lack of positive semidefiniteness of any given Hermitian matrix with relevant monotonicity properties. It turns out th…
We extend to a non-Hermitian fermionic quantum field theory with PT symmetry our previous discussion of second quantization, discrete symmetry transformations, and inner products in a scalar field theory [arXiv:2006.06656]. For illustration, we consider a prototype model containing a single Dirac fermion with a parity-odd, anti-Hermitian mass term. In the phase of unbroken PT symmetry, this Dirac fermion model is equivalent to a Hermitian theory under a similarity transformation, with the non-Hermitian nature of the model residing only in the spinor structure, whereas the algebra of the creati…
We start with quasi-exactly solvable (QES) Hermitian (and hence real) as well as complex PT-invariant, double sinh-Gordon potential and show that even after adding perturbation terms, the resulting potentials, in both cases, are still QES potentials. Further, by using anti-isospectral transformations, we obtain Hermitian as well as PT-invariant complex QES periodic potentials. We study in detail the various properties of the corresponding Bender-Dunne polynomials.
A polynomial ensemble is a probability density function for the position of $n$ real particles of the form $\frac{1}{Z_n} \, \prod_{j<k} (x_k-x_j) \, \det \left[ f_k (x_j) \right]_{j,k=1}^n$, for certain functions $f_1, \ldots, f_n$. Such ensembles appear frequently as the joint eigenvalue density of random matrices. We present a number of transformations that preserve the structure of a polynomial ensemble. These transformations include the restriction of a Hermitian matrix by removing one row and one column, a rank-one modification of a Hermitian matrix, and the extension of a Hermitian matr…
We introduce, for the first time, bicoherent-state path integration as a method for quantizing non-hermitian systems. Bicoherent-state path integrals arise as a natural generalization of ordinary coherent-state path integrals, familiar from hermitian quantum physics. We do all this by working out a concrete example, namely, computation of the propagator of a certain quasi-hermitian variant of Swanson's model, which is not invariant under conventional $PT$-transformation. The resulting propagator coincides with that of the propagator of the standard harmonic oscillator, which is isospectral wit…
We consider one-dimensional Schroedinger-type operators in a bounded interval with non-self-adjoint Robin-type boundary conditions. It is well known that such operators are generically conjugate to normal operators via a similarity transformation. Motivated by recent interests in quasi-Hermitian Hamiltonians in quantum mechanics, we study properties of the transformations in detail. We show that they can be expressed as the sum of the identity and an integral Hilbert-Schmidt operator. In the case of parity and time reversal boundary conditions, we establish closed integral-type formulae for th…
Using the method of point canonical transformation, we derive some exactly solvable rationally extended quantum Hamiltonians which are non-Hermitian in nature and whose bound state wave functions are associated with Laguerre- or Jacobi-type $X_1$ exceptional orthogonal polynomials. These Hamiltonians are shown, with the help of imaginary shift of co-ordinate: $ e^{-αp} x e^{αp} = x+ i α$, to be both quasi and pseudo-Hermitian. It turns out that the corresponding energy spectra is entirely real.
