We give a complete list of indecomposable characters of the infinite symmetric semigroup. In comparison with the analogous list for the infinite symmetric group, one should introduce only one new parameter, which has a clear combinatorial meaning. The paper relies on the representation theory of the finite symmetric semigroups and the representation theory of the infinite symmetric group.

In 1978, Munn proved that a bounded complex representation of an inverse semigroup is semiunitary and completely reducible. We consider the converse question in the finite case. We provide some sufficient conditions from a finite regular semigroup to a finite inverse semigroup.

Bijection between Conjugacy Classes and Irreducible Representations of Finite Inverse Semigroups

In this paper we show that the irreducible representations of a finite inverse semigroup $S$ over an algebraically closed field $F$ are in bijection with the conjugacy classes of $S$ if the characteristic of $F$ is zero or a prime number that does not divide the order of any maximal subgroup of $S$.

Combinatorial Gelfand models for some semigroups and q-rook monoid algebras

Inspired by the results of [R. Adin, A. Postnikov, Y. Roichman, Combinatorial Gelfand model, preprint math.RT arXiv:0709.3962], we propose combinatorial Gelfand models for semigroup algebras of some finite semigroups, which include the symmetric inverse semigroup, the dual symmetric inverse semigroup, the maximal factorizable subsemigroup in the dual symmetric inverse semigroup, and the factor power of the symmetric group. Furthermore we extend the Gelfand model for the semigroup algebras of the symmetric inverse semigroup to a Gelfand model for the $q$-rook monoid algebra.

Fiat categorification of the symmetric inverse semigroup IS_n and the semigroup F^*_n

Starting from the symmetric group $S_n$, we construct two fiat $2$-categories. One of them can be viewed as the fiat "extension" of the natural $2$-category associated with the symmetric inverse semigroup (considered as an ordered semigroup with respect to the natural order). Tight representations of semilattices and inverse semigroups

By a "Boolean inverse semigroup" we mean an inverse semigroup whose semilattice of idempotents is a Boolean algebra. We study representations of a given inverse semigroup S in a Boolean inverse semigroup which are "tight" in a certain well defined technical sense. Restricted algebras on inverse semigroups I, representation theory

The relation between representations and positive definite functions is a key concept in harmonic analysis on topological groups. Recently this relation has been studied on topological groupoids. This is the first in a series of papers in which we have investigated a similar relation on inverse semigroups. We use a new concept of "restricted" representations and study the restricted semigroup algebras and corresponding $C^*$-algebras.

Fast Fourier Transforms for Finite Inverse Semigroups

We extend the theory of fast Fourier transforms on finite groups to finite inverse semigroups. We use a general method for constructing the irreducible representations of a finite inverse semigroup to reduce the problem of computing its Fourier transform to the problems of computing Fourier transforms on its maximal subgroups and a fast zeta transform on its poset structure. We then exhibit explicit fast algorithms for particular inverse semigroups of interest--specifically, for the rook monoid and its wreath products by arbitrary finite groups.

Inverse semigroup expansions and their actions on C*-algebras

In this work, we give a presentation of the prefix expansion Pr(G) of an inverse semigroup G as recently introduced by Lawson, Margolis and Steinberg which is similar to the universal inverse semigroup defined by the second named author in case G is a group. The inverse semigroup Pr(G) classifies the partial actions of G on spaces. We extend this result and prove that Fell bundles over G correspond bijectively to saturated Fell bundles over Pr(G). Inverse semigroup spectral analysis for partially ranked data

Motivated by the notion of symmetric group spectral analysis developed by Diaconis, we introduce the notion of spectral analysis on the rook monoid (also called the symmetric inverse semigroup), characterize its output in terms of symmetric group spectral analysis, and provide an application to the statistical analysis of partially ranked (voting) data. We also discuss generalizations to arbitrary finite inverse semigroups. This paper marks the first non-group semigroup development of spectral analysis.

Simplicity, primitivity and semiprimitivity of etale groupoid algebras with applications to inverse semigroup algebras

This paper studies simplicity, primitivity and semiprimitivity of algebras associated to étale groupoids. Applications to inverse semigroup algebras are presented. The results also recover the semiprimitivity of Leavitt path algebras and can be used to recover the known primitivity criterion for Leavitt path algebras.
