Let F be a differential field of characteristic zero. In this article, we construct Picard-Vessiot extensions of F whose differential Galois group is isomorphic to the full unipotent subgroup of the upper triangular group defined over the field of constants of F. We will also give a procedure to compute linear differential operators for our Picard-Vessiot extensions. We do not require the condition that the field of constants be algebraically closed.
This expository paper presents some applications of the parameterized Picard-Vessiot theory for ordinary differential equations, mainly related to monodromy.
We show that a linear algebraic group is the Galois group of a parameterized Picard-Vessiot extension of k(x), x' = 1, for certain differential fields k, if and only if its identity component has no one dimensional quotient as a linear algebraic group.
We demonstrate existence and uniqueness of Picard--Vessiot extensions satisfying prescribed properties, for systems of linear differential equations over a field satisfying the same properties, under some closure assumptions on the field of constants. An example includes the case of a equations over a real field, with a real-closed field of constants. The result is obtained through a model theoretic approach.
We study the differential Galois theory of difference equations under weaker hypothesis on the field of constants of the automorphism. This framework yields a new approach to results by C.Hardouin and M.Singer, which answers possitively a question by M.Singer: under the classical hypothesis, the known results are still valid. In particular, our Galois group is isomorphic to theirs over a suitable field. We also explicitly calculate the number of connected components of the Galois group.
In the framework of differential Galois theory we treat the classical spectral problem $Ψ"-u(x)Ψ=λΨ$ and its finite-gap potentials as exactly solvable in quadratures by Picard--Vessiot without involving special functions; the ideology goes back to the 1919 works by J. Drach. We show that duality between spectral and quadrature approaches is realized through the Weierstrass permutation theorem for a logarithmic Abelian integral. From this standpoint we inspect known facts and obtain new ones: an important formula for the $Ψ$-function and $Θ$-function extensions of Picard--Vessiot fields. In par…
Parallel telescoping is a natural generalization of differential creative-telescoping for single integrals to line integrals. It computes a linear ordinary differential operator $L$, called a parallel telescoper, for several multivariate functions, such that the applications of $L$ to the functions yield antiderivatives of a single function. We present a necessary and sufficient condition guaranteeing the existence of parallel telescopers for differentially finite functions, and develop an algorithm to compute minimal ones for compatible hyperexponential functions. Besides computing annihilato…
This work is a galoisian study of the spectral problem $LΨ=λΨ$, for algebro-geometric second order differential operators $L$, with coefficients in a differential field, whose field of constants $C$ is algebraically closed and of characteristic zero. Our approach regards the spectral parameter $λ$ an algebraic variable over $C$, forcing the consideration of a new field of coefficients for $L-λ$, whose field of constants is the field $C(Γ)$ of the spectral curve $Γ$. Since $C(Γ)$ is no longer algebraically closed, the need arises of a new algebraic structure, generated by the solutions of the s…
Generalizing Atiyah extensions, we introduce and study differential abelian tensor categories over differential rings. By a differential ring, we mean a commutative ring with an action of a Lie ring by derivations. In particular, these derivations act on a differential category. A differential Tannakian theory is developed. The main application is to the Galois theory of linear differential equations with parameters. Namely, we show the existence of a parameterized Picard-Vessiot extension and, therefore, the Galois correspondence for many differential fields with, possibly, non-differentially…
We describe a Picard-Vessiot theory for differential fields with non algebraically closed fields of constants. As a technique for constructing and classifying Picard-Vessiot extensions, we develop a Galois descent theory. We utilize this theory to prove that every linear algebraic group $G$ over $\mathbb{R}$ occurs as a differential Galois group over $\mathbb{R}(z)$. The main ingredient of the proof is the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence for regular singular differential equations over $\mathbb{C}(z)$.
In this paper we develop a differential Galois theory for algebraic Lie-Vessiot systems in algebraic homogeneous spaces. Lie-Vessiot systems are non autonomous vector fields that are linear combinations with time-dependent coefficients of fundamental vector fields of an algebraic Lie group action. Those systems are the building blocks for differential equations that admit superposition of solutions. Lie-Vessiot systems in algebraic homogeneous spaces include the case of linear differential equations. Therefore, the differential Galois theory for Lie-Vessiot systems is an extension of the class…
We study the notion of regular singularities for parameterized complex ordinary linear differential systems, prove an analogue of the Schlesinger theorem for systems with regular singularities and solve both a parameterized version of the weak Riemann-Hilbert Problem and a special case of the inverse problem in parameterized Picard-Vessiot theory.
We deal with aspects of the direct and inverse problems in parameterized Picard-Vessiot (PPV) theory. It is known that, for certain fields, a linear differential algebraic group (LDAG) G is a PPV Galois group over these fields if and only if G contains a Kolchin-dense finitely generated group. We show that, for a class of LDAGs G, including unipotent groups, G is such a group if and only if it has differential type 0. We give a procedure to determine if a parameterized linear differential equation has a PPV Galois group in this class and show how one can calculate the PPV Galois group of a par…
We develop algorithms to compute the differential Galois group corresponding to a one-parameter family of second order homogeneous ordinary linear differential equations with rational function coefficients. More precisely, we consider equations of the form \frac{\partial^2Y}{\partial x^2}+ r_1\frac{\partial Y}{\partial x} +r_2Y=0, where $r_1,r_2\in C(x,t)$ and $C$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We work in the setting of parameterized Picard-Vessiot theory, which attaches a linear differential algebraic group to such an equation, that is, a group of invertible matrices…
We compare several definitions of the Galois group of a linear difference equation that have arisen in algebra, analysis and model theory and show, that these groups are isomorphic over suitable fields. In addition, we study properties of Picard-Vessiot extensions over fields with not necessarily algebraically closed subfields of constants.
In this article we introduce the notion of projective isomonodromy, which is a special type of monodromy evolving deformation of linear differential equations, based on the example of the Darboux-Halphen equation. We give an algebraic condition for a paramaterized linear differential equation to be projectively isomonodromic, in terms of the derived group of its parameterized Picard-Vessiot group.
I begin from a particular field of generalised Puiseux series and investigate a class of nonlinear differential equations in the field. It is appeared that the main part of differential equation determines solvability and positions of resonance i.e. the appearance of a free constant in solutions. Secondly, for any singular differential equation in a differential field of the form $Q(y)\dot y=P(y)$, $P,Q$ polynomials. Then the greatest Picard-Vessiot extension exists. It is shown that the arising set of solutions is obtained from algebraic equations labelled by constants. Sufficient conditions …
This paper is devoted to a complete parametric study of Liouvillian solutions of the general trace-free second order differential equation with a Laurent polynomial coefficient. This family of equations, for fixed orders at $0$ and $\infty$ of the Laurent polynomial, is seen as an affine algebraic variety. We proof that the set of Picard-Vessiot integrable differential equations in the family is an enumerable union of algebraic subvarieties. We compute explicitly the algebraic equations of its components. We give some applications to well known subfamilies as the doubly confluent and biconflue…
