Zero-field muon spin relaxation experiments have been carried out in the Pr(Os_{1-x}Ru_x)_4Sb_12 and Pr_{1-y}La_yOs_4Sb_12 alloy systems to investigate broken time-reversal symmetry (TRS) in the superconducting state, signaled by the onset of a spontaneous static local magnetic field B_s. In both alloy series B_s initially decreases linearly with solute concentration. Ru doping is considerably more efficient than La doping, with a ~50% faster initial decrease. The data suggest that broken TRS is suppressed for Ru concentration x >~ 0.6, but persists for essentially all La concentrations. Our data support a crystal-field excitonic Cooper pairing mechanism for TRS-breaking superconductivity.
The traditional symmetries that protect superconductivity are time-reversal and inversion. Here, we examine the minimal symmetries protecting superconductivity in two dimensions and find that time-reversal symmetry and inversion symmetry are not required, and having a combination of either symmetry with a mirror operation on the basal plane is sufficient. We classify superconducting states stabilized by these two symmetries, when time-reversal and inversion symmetries are not present, and provide realistic minimal models as examples. Interestingly, several experimentally realized systems, such…
Bulk TiSe$_2$ is an intrinsically layered transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) hosting both superconducting and charge density wave (CDW) ordering. Motivated by the recent progress in preparing two-dimensional TMDs, we study these frustrated orderings in {\it single} trilayer of TiSe$_2$ within a renormalization group approach. We establish that a novel state with time-reversal symmetry broken chiral superconductivity can emerge from the strong competition between CDW formation and superconductivity. Its stability depends on the precise strength and screening of the electron-electron interact…
We report our findings on the mechanism of current-induced suppression of superconductivity in amorphous tantalum films as thin as 5nm under zero applied magnetic field. Our results indicate that the applied current generates magnetic vortices threading the films, and the dynamics of these vortices leads to the suppression of the superconductivity. Our findings also imply that the motion of current-generated magnetic vortices gives rise to nonlinear transport of which characteristics closely resemble those expected in Kosterlitz-Thouless theories with strong finite size effects.
Sr$_{2}$RuO$_{4}$ is one of the most promising candidates of a topological superconductor with broken time-reversal symmetry, because a number of experiments have revealed evidences for a spin-triplet chiral $p$-wave superconductivity. In order to clarify the time-reversal symmetry of Sr$_{2}$RuO$_{4}$, we introduce a novel test that examines the invariance of the Josephson critical current under the inversion of both the current and magnetic fields, in contrast to the detection of a spontaneous magnetic field employed in past experiments. Analyses of the transport properties of the planar and…
We report point contact Andreev Reflection (PCAR) measurements on a high-quality single crystal of the non-centrosymmetric superconductor Re6Zr. We observe that the PCAR spectra can be fitted by taking two isotropic superconducting gaps with Delta_1 ~ 0.79 meV and Delta_2 ~ 0.22 meV respectively, suggesting that there are at least two bands which contribute to superconductivity. Combined with the observation of time reversal symmetry breaking at the superconducting transition from muon spin relaxation measurements (Phys. Rev. Lett. 112, 107002 (2014)), our results imply an unconventional super…
Spin imbalance is predicted to lead to suppression of superconductivity. We report phenomena manifesting this effect under spin-polarized quasiparticle currents in ferromagnet-superconductor-ferromagnet single electron transistors. The measured superconducting gap as a function of magnetic field reveals a dramatic decrease when the magnetizations of the two leads are in opposite orientations. The effect of suppression increases with increas-ing voltage but decreases at elevated temperatures. The possible explanations for these dependences are given. This method may render it applicable to cont…
Superconductors with broken time-reversal symmetry represent arguably one of the most promising venues for realizing highly sought-after topological superconductivity that is vital to fault-tolerant quantum computation. Here, by using extensive muon-spin relaxation and rotation measurements, we report that the isostructural silicide superconductors (Ta, Nb)OsSi spontaneously break time-reversal symmetry at the superconducting transition while surprisingly showing a fully-gapped superconductivity characteristic of conventional superconductors. The first-principles calculations show that (Ta, Nb…
We report the effect of doping Mn in the isostructural MgCNi$_{3-x}$Mn$_{x}$ (x = 0-0.05) compounds. Magnetic susceptibility, resistivity, magneto-resistance, and specific heat studies show evidence of localized moments and Kondo effect in samples with x$\neq$0. The rapid suppression of superconductivity ($\sim$ -21K/at.% Mn) in these compounds is a consequence of pair breaking effects due to moment formation on Mn.
The behavior of electrical resistivity rho(T), temperature of superconducting transition Tc, and upper critical field Hc2(T) of polycrystalline YNi2B2C after irradiation with thermal neutron and subsequent high-temperature isochronous annealings in the temperature range Tann = 100 - 1000C has been studied.
We investigate the nature of the time-reversal breaking pairing state in the hole-doped monolayer MoS$_{2}$ on the basis of the realistic three-orbital attractive Hubbard-like model with the atomic spin-orbit coupling. Due to the multi-band features arising from the Mo $d$ orbitals in the noncentrosymmetric crystal structure, the Lifshitz transition takes place upon hole doping. Across the Lifshitz transition point, the sign of the relative phase between the Cooper-pair components drastically changes, leading to the emergence of the time-reversal breaking phase with complex gap functions. It i…
We discuss superconductivity in a model on a cubic lattice for a $Γ_3$ non-Kramers system. In previous studies, it is revealed that $d$-wave superconductivity with $E_g$ symmetry occurs in a wide parameter range in a $Γ_3$ system. Such anisotropic superconductivity can break the cubic symmetry of the lattice. In a $Γ_3$ system, the quadrupole degrees of freedom are active and the effect of the cubic symmetry breaking should be important. Here, we investigate the coexisting states of the $d$-wave superconductivity and quadrupole order by a mean-field theory. In particular, we discuss possible c…
The Th$_{7}$Fe$_{3}$ family of superconductors provides a rich playground for unconventional superconductivity. La$_7$Ni$_3$ is the latest member of this family, which we here investigate by means of thermodynamic and muon spin rotation and relaxation measurements. Our specific heat data provides evidence for two distinct and approximately isotropic superconducting gaps. The larger gap has a value slightly higher than that of weak-coupling BCS theory, indicating the presence of significant correlations. These observations are confirmed by transverse-field muon-rotation measurements. Furthermor…
We consider mixed symmetry superconducting phases in Dirac materials in the odd parity channel, where pseudoscalar and vector order parameters can coexist due to their similar critical temperatures when attractive interactions are of finite range. We show that the coupling of these order parameters to unordered magnetic dopants favors the condensation of novel time-reversal symmetry breaking (TRSB) phases, characterized by a condensate magnetization, rotation symmetry breaking, and simultaneous ordering of the dopant moments. We find a rich phase diagram of mixed TRSB phases characterized by p…
We consider a model of multiband superconductivity, inspired by iron pnictides, in which three bands are connected via repulsive pair-scattering terms. Generically, three distinct superconducting states arise within such a model. Two of them are straightforward generalizations of the two-gap order parameter while the third one corresponds to a time-reversal symmetry breaking order parameter, altogether absent within the two-band model. Potential observation of such a genuinely frustrated state would be a particularly vivid manifestation of the repulsive interactions being at the root of iron-b…
A nematic quantum critical point is anticipated to exist in the superconducting dome of some high-temperature superconductors. The nematic order competes with the superconducting order and hence reduces the superconducting condensate at $T = 0$. Moreover, the critical fluctuations of nematic order can excite more nodal quasiparticles out of the condensate. We address these two effects within an effective field theory and show that superfluid density $ρ^s(T)$ and superconducting temperature $T_c$ are both suppressed strongly by the critical fluctuations. The strong suppression of superconductiv…
We study possible applications of high critical temperature nodal superconductors for the search for Majorana bound states in the DIII class. We propose a microscopic analysis of the proximity effect induced by d-wave superconductors on a semiconductor wire with strong spin-orbit coupling. We characterize the induced superconductivity on the wire employing a numerical self-consistent tight-binding Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach, and analytical considerations on the Green's function. The order parameter induced on the wire, the pair correlation function, and the renormalization of the Fermi poin…
In this letter, we describe quantitative magnetic imaging of superconducting vortices in RbEuFe$_4$As$_4$ in order to investigate the unique interplay between the magnetic and superconducting sublattices. Our scanning Hall microscopy data reveal a pronounced suppression of the superfluid density near the magnetic ordering temperature in good qualitative agreement with a recently-developed model describing the suppression of superconductivity by correlated magnetic fluctuations. These results indicate a pronounced exchange interaction between the superconducting and magnetic subsystems in RbEuF…
In the superconductor LaRu$_3$Si$_2$ with the Kagome lattice of Ru, we have successfully doped the Ru with Fe and Co atoms. Contrasting behaviors of suppression to superconductivity is discovered between the Fe and the Co dopants: Fe-impurities can suppress the superconductivity completely at a doping level of only 3%, while the superconductivity is suppressed slowly with the Co dopants. A systematic magnetization measurements indicate that the doped Fe impurities lead to spin-polarized electrons yielding magnetic moments with the magnitude of 1.6 $μ_B$\ per Fe, while the electrons given by th…
Epitaxial bilayer films of Bi(110) and Ni host a time-reversal symmetry (TRS) breaking superconducting order with an unexpectedly high transition temperature $T_c = 4.1$ K. Using time-domain THz spectroscopy, we measure the low energy electrodynamic response of a Bi/Ni bilayer thin film from $0.2$ THz to $2$ THz as a function of temperature and magnetic field. We analyze the data in the context of a BCS-like superconductor with a finite normal-state scattering rate. In zero magnetic field, all states in the film become fully gapped, providing important constraints into possible pairing symmetr…
Exotic superconductors, such as high T$_C$, topological, and heavy-fermion superconductors, require phase sensitive measurements to determine the underlying pairing. Here we investigate the proximity-induced superconductivity in nanowires of SnTe, where an $s\pm is^{\prime}$ superconducting state is produced that lacks the time-reversal and valley-exchange symmetry of the parent SnTe. This effect, in conjunction with a ferroelectric distortion of the lattice at low temperatures, results in a marked alteration of the properties of Josephson junctions fabricated using SnTe nanowires. This work e…
On the basis of the recently proposed self-consistent theory of metal- insulator transition in strongly disordered systems, taking into account interaction effects, we study transition temperature $T_{c}$ suppression in disordered superconductors for the wide disorder interval --- from weakly disordered metal up to Anderson insulator, induced by "Coulomb pseudogap" formation in the density of states. It is shown that for a number of systems this theory provides rather satisfactory fit of experimental data.
Intrinsic and symmetry protected topological states have attracted lots of interest in condensed matter physics recently. In particular, time reversal symmetry protected fermion topological insulators have been theoretically predicted and experimentally verified. However despite considerable experimental and theoretical works, definitive evidence for time reversal invariant topological superconductivity is still lacking. Here we propose that upon electron doping the hydrogenated single bilayer Bi, namely BiH, will exhibit time reversal invariant topological superconductivity. If confirmed expe…
Using non-resonant Fe K-beta x-ray emission spectroscopy, we reveal that Sr-doping of CaFe2As2 decouples the Fe moment from the volume collapse transition, yielding a collapsed-tetragonal, paramagnetic normal state out of which superconductivity develops. X-ray diffraction measurements implicate the c-axis lattice parameter as the controlling criterion for the Fe moment, promoting a generic description for the appearance of pressure-induced superconductivity in the alkaline-earth-based 122 ferropnictides (AFe2As2). The evolution of the superconducting critical temperature with pressure lends s…
The noncentrosymmetric superconductor Re$_6$Zr has attracted much interest due to the observation of broken time-reversal symmetry in the superconducting state. Here we report an investigation of the superconducting gap structure of Re$_6$Zr single crystals by measuring the magnetic penetration depth shift $Δλ(T)$ and electronic specific heat $C_e(T)$. $Δλ(T)$ exhibits an exponential temperature dependence behavior for $T~\ll~T_c$, which indicates a fully-open superconducting gap. Our analysis shows that a single gap $s$-wave model is sufficient to describe both the superfluid density $ρ_s(T)$…
As an extension of our previous work on the holon pairing instability in the t-J Hamiltonian [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 66}, 054427 (2002)], we examine the orbital symmetries of holon pairing order parameters in high $T_c$ superconductivity by examining the energy poles of t-matrix. We find that both $s$- and d-wave symmetries in holon pair order parameter occur at low lying energy states corresponding to the higher energy poles of t-matrix while only the s-wave symmetry appears at the lowest energy pole and that this results in the d-wave symmetry in the Cooper pair order which is a composite of the …
We study a tight-binding model on the honeycomb lattice of chiral $d$-wave superconductivity that breaks time-reversal symmetry. Due to its nontrivial sublattice structure, we show that it is possible to construct a gauge-invariant time-reversal-odd bilinear of the pairing potential. The existence of this bilinear reflects the sublattice polarization of the pairing state. We show that it generates persistent loop current correlations around each lattice site and opens a topological mass gap at the Dirac points, resembling Haldane's model of the anomalous quantum Hall effect. In addition to the…
We study time-reversal-invariant topological superconductivity in topological insulator (TI) thin films including both intra- and inter-surface pairing. We find a nontrivial topology for multiple different configurations. For intra-surface pairing a $π$-phase difference between the intra-surface pairing states is required. We show that in this case the resulting topological phase is highly tunable by both an applied electric field and varied chemical potential. For spin-singlet inter-surface pairing, a sign-changing tunnel coupling present in many TI thin films is needed, and again, the topolo…
We studied the effects of nonmagnetic impurities on high-temperature superconductors by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations on a two-dimensional lattice via exact diagonalization technique in a fully self-consistent way. We found that s-wave order parameter is almost unaffected by impurities at low concentrations while $d_{x^2-y^2}$-wave order parameter exhibits a strong linear decrease with impurity concentration. We evaluated the critical impurity concentration $n_i^c$ at which superconductivity ceases to be 0.1 which is in good agreement with experimental values. We also investigated…
We report an investigation of the superconducting properties of the hexagonal noncentrosymmetric compound LaPdIn. Electrical resistivity, specific heat and ac susceptibility measurements demonstrate the presence of bulk superconductivity below $T_c$ = 1.6 K. The specific heat, together with the penetration depth measured using transverse-field muon spin rotation and the tunnel diode oscillator based method, are well described by single gap $s$-wave superconductivity, with a gap magnitude of 1.8$k_BT_c$. From zero-field muon spin relaxation results no evidence is found for the spontaneous emerg…
Using functional renormalization group method, we study the favorable condition for electronic correlation driven time reversal invariant topological superconductivity in symmetry class DIII. For non-centrosymmetric systems we argue that the proximity to ferromagnetic (or small wavevector magnetic) instability can be used as a guideline for the search of this type of superconductivity. This is analogous to the appearance of singlet unconventional superconductivity in the neighborhood of antiferromagnetic instability. We show three concrete examples where ferromagnetic-like fluctuation leads to…
Over the last years a lot of theoretical and experimental efforts have been made to find states with broken time reversal symmetry (BTRS) in multi-band superconductors. In particular, it was theoretically proposed that in the Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ system either an $s+is$ or an $s+id$ BTRS state may exist at high doping levels in a narrow region of the phase diagram. Here we report the observation of an enhanced zero field muon spin relaxation rate below the superconducting transition temperature for a high quality crystalline sample with $x \approx$ 0.73. This indicates that indeed the…
Low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy are employed to investigate twin boundaries in stoichiometric FeSe films grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Twin boundaries can be unambiguously identified by imaging the 90° change in the orientation of local electronic dimers from Fe site impurities on either side. Twin boundaries run at approximately 45° to the Fe-Fe bond directions, and noticeably suppress the superconducting gap, in contrast with the recent experimental and theoretical findings in other iron pnictides. Furthermore, vortices appear to accumulate on twin boundarie…
The effects of partial substitution of Cu and Co for Ni in the intermetallic perovskite superconductor MgCNi3 are reported. Calculation of the expected electronic density of states suggests that electron (Cu) and hole (Co) doping should have different effects. For MgCNi3-xCux, solubility of Cu is limited to approximately 3% (x = 0.1), and Tc decreases systematically from 7K to 6K. For MgCNi3-xCox, solubility of Co is much more extensive, but bulk superconductivity disappears for Co doping of 1% (x = 0.03). No signature of long range magnetic ordering is observed in the magnetic susceptibility …
We report the single-crystal synthesis and detailed investigations of the cage-type superconductor Sc5Ru6Sn18, using powder x-ray diffraction (XRD), magnetization, specific-heat and muon-spin relaxation (muSR) measurements. Sc5Ru6Sn18 crystallizes in a tetragonal structure (space group I41/acd) with the lattice parameters a = 1.387(3) nm and c = 2.641(5) nm. Both DC and AC magnetization measurements prove the type-II superconductivity in Sc5Ru6Sn18 with Tc = 3.5(1) K, a lower critical field H_c1 (0) = 157(9) Oe and an upper critical field, H_c2 (0) = 26(1) kOe. The zero-field electronic specif…
We have studied the effect of tensile strain on the superconductivity in FeSe films. 50 nm, 100 nm, and 200 nm FeSe films were grown on MgO, SrTiO$_3$, and LaAlO$_3$ substrates by using a pulsed laser deposition technique. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the tetragonal phase is dominant in all of our FeSe films. The 50 nm FeSe films on MgO and SrTiO$_3$ are under tensile strain, while the 50 nm FeSe film on LaAlO$_3$ and the other thick FeSe films are unstrained. Superconducting transitions have been observed in unstrained FeSe films with T$_{onset}$ $\approx$ 8 K, which is close to the…
Effects of columnar defects created by 320 MeV Au irradiation on 2H-NbSe2 single crystals with a dose equivalent matching field up to 16 T were studied. Critical temperature is found to be suppressed almost linearly at a rate of 0.07 K/T. At the same time, the lattice parameters a and c are found to be expanded at rates of 0.016%/T and 0.030%/T, respectively. Such a lattice expansion should work as negative pressure to affect Tc. By separating the effect of heavy-ion irradiation on Tc suppression through lattice expansion and disorder, it is found that Tc is suppressed more by lattice expansio…
It is pointed out that erroneous Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer model equations have been used by Haranath Ghosh in his recent treatment of time-reversal symmetry-breaking superconductivity. Consequently, his numerical results are misleading, and his conclusions are not to the point.
We investigated the doping effects of magnetic and nonmagnetic impurities on the single-crystalline p-type Ba0.5K0.5Fe2-2xM2xAs2 (M = Mn, Ru, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) superconductors. The superconductivity indicates robustly against impurity of Ru, while weakly against the impurities of Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn. However, the present Tc suppression rate of both magnetic and nonmagnetic impurities remains much lower than what was expected for the s\pm-wave model. The temperature dependence of resistivity data is observed an obvious low-T upturn for the crystals doped with high-level impurity, which is d…
We present a study of the superconducting properties (Tc and Hc2) in the solid solution (TMTSF)2(ClO4)(1-x)(ReO4)x with a ReO-4 nominal concentration up to x = 6%. The dramatic suppression of Tc when the residual resistivity is increased upon alloying with no modification of the Fermi surface is the signature of non-conventional superconductivity . This behaviour strongly supports p or d wave pairing in quasi one dimensional organic superconductors. The determination of the electron lifetime in the normal state at low temperature confirms that a single particle Drude model is unable to explain…
We derive the effective Ginzburg-Landau theory for finite momentum (FFLO/PDW) superconductivity without spin population imbalance from a model with local attraction and repulsive pair-hopping. We find that the GL free energy must include up to sixth order derivatives of the order parameter, providing a unified description of the interdependency of zero and finite momentum superconductivity. For weak pair-hopping the phase diagram contains a line of Lifshitz points where vanishing superfluid stiffness induces a continuous change to a long wavelength Fulde-Ferrell (FF) state. For larger pair-hop…
We present a study of the structural and physical properties of directly hole doped LaFe1-xMnxAsO (x = 0.0-0.2) and the influence of charge compensation / electron-doping by additional F doping in LaFe0.9Mn0.1AsO1-yFy (y = 0.1-0.5). High quality polycrystalline samples were prepared using a solid state metathesis reaction. The unit cell increases upon Mn doping, but decreases again when additional F is inserted. The semiconducting character of LaFe1-xMnxAsO decreases with additional F doping. Muon spin relaxation (muSR) measurements reveal short range magnetic order in LaFe1-xMnxAsO and a supp…
Structural and electronic characterization of (Ca0.67Sr0.33)Fe2As2 has been performed as a func- tion of pressure up to 12 GPa using conventional and designer diamond anvil cells. The compound (Ca0.67Sr0.33)Fe2As2 behaves intermediate between its end members-CaFe2As2 and SrFe2As2- displaying a suppression of magnetism and the onset of superconductivity. Like other members of the AEFe2As2 family, (Ca0.67Sr0.33)Fe2As2 undergoes a pressure-induced isostructural volume collapse, which we associate with the development of As-As bonding across the mirror plane of the structure. This collapsed tetrag…
We report the first measurements of the anisotropic upper critical field $H_{c2}(T)$ for K$_{2}$Cr$_{3}$As$_{3}$ single crystals up to 60 T and $T > 0.6$ K. Our results show that the upper critical field parallel to the Cr chains, $H_{c2}^\parallel (T)$, exhibits a paramagnetically-limited behavior, whereas the shape of the $H_{c2}^\perp (T)$ curve (perpendicular to the Cr chains) has no evidence of paramagnetic effects. As a result, the curves $H_{c2}^\perp (T)$ and $H_{c2}^\parallel(T)$ cross at $T\approx 4$ K, so that the anisotropy parameter $γ_H(T)=H_{c2}^\perp/H_{c2}^\parallel (T)$ incre…
We report muon spin relaxation measurements on the superconductor Sr2RuO4 that reveal the spontaneous appearance of an internal magnetic field below the transition temperature: the appearance of such a field indicates that the superconducting state in this material is characterized by the breaking of time-reversal symmetry. These results, combined with other symmetry considerations, suggest that superconductivity in Sr2RuO4 is of p-wave (odd-parity) type, analogous to superfluid 3He.
Hole-doped cuprate superconductors show a ubiquitous tendency towards charge order. Although onset of superconductivity is known to suppress charge order, there has not so far been a decisive demonstration of the reverse process, namely, the effect of charge order on superconductivity. To gain such information, we report here the dependence of the critical temperature $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ of YBa$_2$Cu$_3$O$_{6.67}$ on in-plane uniaxial stress up to 2 GPa. At a compression of about 1 GPa along the $a$ axis, 3D-correlated charge density wave (3D CDW) order appears. We find that $T_{\mathrm{c}}$ decr…
I review the principal experimental findings about superconductivity, suppression thereof, and related properties of RE_{1-x}Pr_xBa_2Cu3O7 in a decision-tree manner, eliminating the models substantially incompatible with established experimental facts, eventually focussing on the pfσhybridization models and listing on a verbal level the interpretations of the existing experiments as they emerge from such models.
The Josephson-like interband couplings in multi-band superconductivity exhibit degenerate energy minima, which support states with kinks in phase of superconductivity. When the interband couplings in systems of three or more components are frustrated, the time-reversal symmetry (TRS) can be broken, which generates another type of phase kink between the two time-reversal-symmetry breaking (TRSB) pair states. In this work, we focus on these novel states of phase kinks, and investigate their stability, similarity, differences and physical consequences. Main results are summarized as follows: (1) …
Time-reversal-invariant topological superconductors have a full paring gap in the bulk and gapless Majorana states at the edge or on the surface. Here, we theoretically propose topological superconductivity in a doped quantum spin Hall insulator. We study the pairing symmetry of doped Sn$X$ film within a two-orbital model, and show that it realizes a topological superconductor when the intraorbital attractive interaction is stronger than the interorbital interaction, which is generic for a doped quantum spin Hall insulator with strong spin-orbit coupling. Edge channels are studied in a tight-b…
Superconductivity that spontaneously breaks time-reversal symmetry (TRS) has been found, so far, only in a handful of 3D crystals with bulk inversion symmetry. Here we report an observation of spontaneous TRS breaking in a 2D superconducting system without inversion symmetry: the epitaxial bilayer films of bismuth and nickel. The evidence comes from the onset of the polar Kerr effect at the superconducting transition in the absence of an external magnetic field, detected by the ultrasensitive loop-less fiber-optic Sagnac interferometer. Because of strong spin-orbit interaction and lack of inve…
We study the suppression of superconductivity with ultrashort laser pulse in the presence of transport current. The theoretical model is based on the BCS relations for the superconducting state coupled with kinetic equations for nonequilibrium Bogoliubov quasiparticles and phonons. The results of numerical simulation for picosecond and femtosecond laser pulses of optical and infrared ranges are given. We discuss the effects of main problem parameters, including the current density.
Recent theoretical work predicted emergence of chiral topological superconducting phase with spontaneously broken time reversal symmetry in a twisted bilayer composed of two high-$T_c$ cuprate monolayers, such as Bi$_2$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$. Here we identify large intrinsic Hall response that can be probed through the polar Kerr effect measurement as a convenient signature of the $\mathcal{T}$-broken phase. Our modelling predicts the Kerr angle $θ_K$ to be in the range of 10-100 $μ$rad, which is a factor of $10^3-10^4$ times larger than what is expected for the leading chiral supercondutor c…
We have investigated a series of superconducting bridges based on homogeneous amorphous WSi and MoSi films, with bridge widths w ranging from 2 um to 1000 um and film thicknesses d ~ 4-6 nm and 100 nm. Upon decreasing the bridge widths below the respective Pearl lengths, we observe in all cases distinct changes in the characteristics of the resistive transitions to superconductivity. For each of the films, the resistivity curves R(B,T) separate at a well-defined and field-dependent temperature T*(B) with decreasing the temperature, resulting in a dramatic suppression of the resistivity and a s…
