HiggsBounds 2.0.0 is a computer code which tests both neutral and charged Higgs sectors of arbitrary models against the current exclusion bounds from the Higgs searches at LEP and the Tevatron. As input, it requires a selection of model predictions, such as Higgs masses, branching ratios, effective couplings and total decay widths. HiggsBounds 2.0.0 then uses the expected and observed topological cross section limits from the Higgs searches to determine whether a given parameter scenario of a model is excluded at the 95% C.L. by those searches. Version 2.0.0 represents a significant extension of the code since its first release (1.0.0). It includes now 28/53 LEP/Tevatron Higgs search analyses, compared to the 11/22 in the first release, of which many of the ones from the Tevatron are replaced by updates. As a major extension, the code allows now the predictions for (singly) charged Higgs bosons to be confronted with LEP and Tevatron searches. Furthermore, the newly included analyses contain LEP searches for neutral Higgs bosons (H) decaying invisibly or into (non flavour tagged) hadrons as well as decay-mode independent searches for neutral Higgs bosons, LEP searches via the production modes tau+ tau- H and b b-bar H, and Tevatron searches via t t-bar H. Also, all Tevatron results presented at the ICHEP'10 are included in version 2.0.0. As physics applications of HiggsBounds 2.0.0 we study the allowed Higgs mass range for model scenarios with invisible Higgs decays and we obtain exclusion results for the scalar sector of the Randall-Sundrum model using up-to-date LEP and Tevatron direct search results.
HiggsBounds is a computer code that tests theoretical predictions of models with arbitrary Higgs sectors against the exclusion bounds obtained from the Higgs searches at LEP and the Tevatron. The included experimental information comprises exclusion bounds at 95% C.L. on topological cross sections. In order to determine which search topology has the highest exclusion power, the program also includes, for each topology, information from the experiments on the expected exclusion bound, which would have been observed in case of a pure background distribution. Using the predictions of the desired …
HiggsBounds is a computer code which tests the Higgs sectors of new models against the current exclusion bounds from the Higgs searches at LEP and the Tevatron. As input, it requires a selection of model predictions, such as Higgs masses, branching ratios, effective couplings and total decay widths. HiggsBounds then uses the expected and observed topological cross section limits from the Higgs searches to determine which points in the parameter space have already been excluded at 95% CL. HiggsBounds will be updated to include new results as they become available.
We review the program HiggsBounds that tests theoretical predictions of models with arbitrary Higgs sectors against the exclusion bounds obtained from the Higgs searches at LEP and the Tevatron. We explicitly list the bounds that have been added after the first release of HiggsBounds.
We introduce version 2.0.0 of the computer program HiggsBounds. The program tests neutral and charged Higgs sectors of new models against the current exclusion bounds from LEP and the Tevatron. As input, it requires a selection of model predictions, such as Higgs masses, branching ratios, effective couplings and total decay widths. The program then uses the expected and observed topological cross section limits from the Higgs searches to determine whether a given parameter scenario of a model is excluded at the 95% C.L. by those searches. Version 2.0.0 includes 39/53 LEP/Tevatron Higgs search …
We describe the new developments in version 4 of the public computer code HiggsBounds. HiggsBounds is a tool to test models with arbitrary Higgs sectors, containing both neutral and charged Higgs bosons, against the published exclusion bounds from Higgs searches at the LEP, Tevatron and LHC experiments. From the model predictions for the Higgs masses, branching ratios, production cross sections and total decay widths - which are specified by the user in the input for the program - the code calculates the predicted signal rates for the search channels considered in the experimental data. The si…
We report on recent developments in the public computer code HiggsBounds, which confronts arbitrary Higgs sector predictions with 95% C.L. exclusion limits from Higgs searches at the LEP, Tevatron and LHC experiments. We discuss in detail the performance of the Standard Model (SM) likeness test as implemented in the latest version HiggsBounds-3.8.0, whose outcome decides whether a search for a SM Higgs boson can be applied to a model beyond the SM. Furthermore, we give a preview of features in the upcoming version HiggsBounds-4.0.0 and the new program HiggsSignals, which performs a chi-squared…
The program HiggsBounds is a well-established tool for testing Beyond-the-Standard Model (BSM) theories with an extended Higgs sector against experimental limits from collider searches at LEP, Tevatron and LHC. Thus far, it could be applied to any neutral or charged Higgs bosons originating from the modified Higgs sector. Implicitly, these particles were assumed to exhibit a somewhat hierarchical Yukawa structure as present in the Standard Model, where in particular the couplings to first generation fermions could be neglected. In this work, we extend the HiggsBounds functionalities to go beyo…
HiggsSignals is a Fortran90 computer code that allows to test the compatibility of Higgs sector predictions against Higgs rates and masses measured at the LHC or the Tevatron. Arbitrary models with any number of Higgs bosons can be investigated using a model-independent input scheme based on HiggsBounds. The test is based on the calculation of a chi-squared measure from the predictions and the measured Higgs rates and masses, with the ability of fully taking into account systematics and correlations for the signal rate predictions, luminosity and Higgs mass predictions. It features two complem…
We confront the indications of lepton flavor universality (LFU) violation observed in semi-tauonic $B$ meson decays with new physics (NP) searches using high $p_T$ tau leptons at the LHC. Using effective field theory arguments we correlate possible non-standard contributions to semi-tauonic charged currents with the $τ^+ τ^-$ signature at high energy hadron colliders. Several representative standard model extensions put forward to explain the anomaly are examined in detail: (i) weak triplet of color-neutral vector resonances, (ii) second Higgs doublet and (iii) scalar or (iv) vector leptoquark…
LHC searches for non-standard Higgs bosons decaying into tau lepton pairs constitute a sensitive experimental probe for physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM), such as Supersymmetry (SUSY). Recently, the limits obtained from these searches have been presented by the CMS collaboration in a nearly model-independent fashion - as a narrow resonance model - based on the full 8 TeV dataset. In addition to publishing a 95% C.L. exclusion limit, the full likelihood information for the narrow resonance model has been released. This provides valuable information that can be incorporated into global BSM…
In the chiral limit, the $D=6$ contribution to the Operator Product Expansion (OPE) of the $\mathrm{VV-AA}$ correlator of quark currents only depends on two vacuum condensates, which can be related to hadronic matrix elements associated to CP violation in non-leptonic kaon decays. We use those relations to determine $\langle(ππ)_{I=2}|\mathcal{Q}_{8}|K\rangle$, using the updated ALEPH spectral functions. Alternatively, we use those relations in the opposite direction. Taking the values of the matrix elements from the lattice to obtain the $D=6$ vacuum elements provides a new short-distance con…
The present work introduces new scalar and fermionic degrees of freedom to the Standard Model. While the scalar sector is augmented by a complex scalar triplet and a doubly charged scalar singlet, the fermionic sector is extended by two copies of vector-like leptons. Of these, one copy is an $SU(2)_L$ singlet while the other, an $SU(2)_L$ doublet. We explain how this combination can offer a solution to the muon g-2 anomaly and also lead to non-zero neutrino masses. In addition, it is also shown that the parameter regions compliant with the two aforementioned issues can stabilise the electrowea…
We update and improve past efforts to predict the leptonic Dirac CP-violating phase with models that predict perturbatively modified tribimaximal or bimaximal mixing. Simple perturbations are applied to both mixing patterns in the form of rotations between two sectors. By translating these perturbed mixing matrices to the standard parameterization for the neutrino mixing matrix we derive relations between the Dirac CP-phase and the oscillation angles. We use these relations together with current experimental results to constrain the allowed range for the CP-phase and determine its probability …
We discuss the tension between discrete flavour symmetries and extended scalar sectors arising from lepton flavour violation experiments. The key point is that extended scalar sectors will generically lead to flavour changing neutral currents, which are strongly constrained by experiments. Due to the large parameter space in the scalar sector such models will, however, usually have no big problems with existing and future bounds (even though the models might be constrained). This changes considerably once a flavour symmetry is imposed in addition: Due to the symmetry, additional relations betw…
We test the impact of the ATLAS and CMS multi-lepton searches performed at the LHC with 8 as well as 13 TeV center-of-mass energy (using only the pre-2018 results) on the chargino and neutralino sector of the NMSSM. Our purpose consists in analyzing the actual reach of these searches for a full model and in emphasizing effects beyond the MSSM that affect the performance of current (MSSM-inspired) electroweakino searches. To this end, we consider several scenarios characterizing specific features of the NMSSM electroweakino sector. We then perform a detailed collider study, generating Monte-Car…
We explore possible signatures for charged lepton flavour violation (LFV), sparticle discovery at the LHC and dark matter (DM) searches in grand unified theories (GUTs) based on SU(5), flipped SU(5) (FSU(5)) and SU(4)$_c \times $SU(2)$_L \times $SU(2)$_R$ (4-2-2). We assume that soft supersymmetry-breaking terms preserve the group symmetry at some high input scale, and focus on the non-universal effects on different matter representations generated by gauge interactions at lower scales, as well as the charged LFV induced in Type-1 see-saw models of neutrino masses. We identify the different me…
Indirect searches have the potential to probe scales beyond the realm of direct searches. In this letter we consider the implications of two parity violating experiments: weak charge of proton $Q_W^p$ and the Caesium atom $Q_W^{Cs}$ on the solutions to lepton flavour non-universality violations (LFUV) in the decay of $B$ mesons. Working in a generic implementation of a minimal $Z^\prime$ model, we assume the primary contribution being due to the electron to facilitate comparison with the low $q^2$ parity violating experiments. We demonstrate that the conclusion is characterized by different li…
We present a class of dark matter models, in which the dark matter particle is a feebly interacting massive particle (FIMP) produced via the decay of an electrically charged and/or colored parent particle. Given the feeble interaction, dark matter is produced via the freeze-in mechanism and the parent particle is long-lived. The latter leads to interesting collider signatures. We study current LHC constrains on our models arising from searches for heavy charged particles, disappearing tracks, displaced leptons and displaced vertices. We demonstrate not only that collider searches can be a powe…
The recent Fermilab measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment yields $4.2 σ$ deviations from the SM prediction when combined with the BNL E821 experiment results. In the Type-X two Higgs doublet model, we study the consequence of imposing the observed muon $g-2$, along with the constraints from theoretical stabilities, electroweak oblique parameters, Higgs precision data, and direct searches. For a comprehensive study, we scan the whole parameter space in two scenarios, the normal scenario where $h_{\rm SM} = h$ and the inverted scenario where $h_{\rm SM}=H$, where $h$ ($H$) is the lig…
The present work introduces two possible extensions of the Standard Model Higgs sector. In the first case, the Zee-Babu type model for the generation of neutrino mass is augmented with a scalar triplet and additional singly charged scalar singlets. The second scenario, on the other hand, generalizes the Type-II seesaw model by replicating the number of the scalar triplets. A $\mathbb{Z}_3$ symmetry is imposed in case of both the scenarios, but, allowed to be violated by terms of mass dimension two and three for generating neutrino masses and mixings. We examine how the models so introduced can…
We study the constraints on the Lee-Wick Higgs sector arising from direct collider searches. We work in an effective-field theory framework, where all of the Lee-Wick partners are integrated out, with the sole exception of the Lee-Wick Higgs bosons. The resulting theory is a two-Higgs doublet model where the second doublet has wrong-sign kinetic and mass terms. We include the bounds coming from direct Higgs searches at both LEP and Tevatron using the code HiggsBounds, and show the currently excluded parameter space. We also analyze the prospects of LHC Run-I, finding that with a total integrat…
The $B-L$ gauge symmetry motivated from the successful generation of the seesaw mechanism and leptogenesis. We show that if the $B-L$ gauge boson constitutes a small fraction of the dark matter (DM) it can explain the Galactic $511$ keV emission via the decay into an electron-positron pair. We find the model parameter space that is consistent with the seesaw mechanism, cosmologically viable, and accounting for the amplitude of the Galactic positron line. From this parameter space we derive an upper bound of the gauge boson mass and then an bound of the positron injection energy $\lesssim3$ MeV…
We propose a model of Dirac neutrino masses generated at one-loop level. The origin of this mass is induced from Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking which was proposed to solve the so-called strong CP problem in QCD, therefore, the neutrino mass is connected with the QCD scale, $Λ_{\rm QCD}$. We also study the parameter space of this model confronting with neutrino oscillation data and leptonic rare decays. The phenomenological implications to leptonic flavor physics such as the electromagnetic moment of charged leptons and neutrinos are studied. Axion as the dark matter candidate is one of the byp…
We investigate the predictions for various nucleon decay rates and their ratios in non-supersymmetric SU(5) Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) where the masses of the third and second family down-type quarks and charged leptons each stem dominantly from single GUT operators. Extending the Georgi-Glashow SU(5) model by a 45-dimensional GUT-Higgs representation, the gauge couplings can meet at the high scale $M_\mathrm{GUT}$ and the GUT scale predictions $y_τ/y_b = 3/2$ and $y_μ/y_s = 9/2$ can emerge within single operator dominance. Explaining the observed neutrino masses via the type I seesaw mecha…
While the properties of the signal that was discovered in the Higgs searches at the LHC are consistent so far with the Higgs boson of the Standard Model (SM), it is crucial to investigate to what extent other interpretations that may correspond to very different underlying physics are compatible with the current results. We use the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) as a well-motivated theoretical framework with a sufficiently rich Higgs phenomenology to address this question, making use of the public tools HiggsBounds and HiggsSignals in order to take into account comprehen…
Supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model open up the possibility for new types of CP-violation. We consider the case of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model where, beyond the phases from the soft lagrangian, CP-violation could enter the Higgs sector directly at tree-level through complex parameters in the superpotential. We develop a series of Fortran subroutines, cast within the public tool NMSSMTools and allowing for a phenomenological analysis of the CP-violating NMSSM. This new tool performs the computation of the masses and couplings of the various new physics states i…
In a previous work we developed a search strategy for staus produced by the decay of the heavy CP-even Higgs boson $H$ within the context of the large $\tanβ$ regime of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) in an scenario of large stau mixing. Here we study the performance of such search strategy by confronting it with the complementary mixing pattern in which decays of both the CP-even and CP-odd heavy Higgs bosons contribute to the production of $\widetildeτ_1\widetildeτ_2^{*} \;+\; c.c$ pairs. Again, we focus on final states with two opposite-sign tau leptons and large missing tr…
The Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) offers a rich framework embedding physics beyond the Standard Model as well as consistent interpretations of the results about the Higgs signal detected at the LHC. We investigate the decays of neutral Higgs states into Standard Model (SM) fermions and gauge bosons. We perform full one-loop calculations of the decay widths and include leading higher-order QCD corrections. We first discuss the technical aspects of our approach, before confronting our predictions to those of existing public tools, performing a numerical analysis and discu…
