Following our earlier work in arXiv:0906.4294 we show how to use semiclassical string quantization approach to compute the leading corrections to the energy of AdS_5 x S^5 string states on the first excited string level that should correspond to operators in the Konishi multiplet of N=4 SYM theory. Compared to examples in our previous paper the string solutions we consider here carry an extra component of S^5 angular momentum J. This facilitates their identification with operators in the Konishi multiplet. We show that for such string states with J=2 the coefficient of the subleading lambda^(-1/4) term in the large string tension expansion of the energy is twice the one found in arXiv:0906.4294. The resulting value matches the one found for the Konishi state in the sl(2) sector from the Y-system/TBA approach, resolving an apparent disagreement claimed earlier.
We introduce a method to compute from first principles the anomalous dimension of short operators in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling, where they are described in terms of superstring vertex operators in an anti-de Sitter background. We focus on the Konishi multiplet, dual to the first massive level of the superstring, and compute the one-loop correction to its anomalous dimension at strong coupling, using the pure spinor formalism for the superstring.
We investigate the solution space of the $β$-deformed Quantum Spectral Curve by studying a sample of solutions corresponding to single-trace operators that in the undeformed theory belong to the Konishi multiplet. We discuss how to set the precise boundary conditions for the leading Q-system for a given state, how to solve it, and how to build perturbative corrections to the $\mathbf{P}μ$-system. We confirm and add several loop orders to known results in the literature.
The Konishi superconformal multiplet is an important theoretical laboratory where one can test AdS/CFT methods to compute strong coupling corrections to the spectrum of superstrings in AdS_5 x S^5. In particular, one can exploit integrability for finite charge states/operators. The multiplet ground state is a singlet operator with two simple descendants in the rank-1 sectors sl(2) and su(2) of N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. Recently, the next-to-leading quantum correction to the sl(2) state has been computed. Here, we use the algebraic curve approach to determine the correction to the other stat…
We revisit the calculation of instanton effects in correlation functions in ${\cal N}=4$ SYM involving the Konishi operator and operators of twist two. Previous studies revealed that the scaling dimensions and the OPE coefficients of these operators do not receive instanton corrections in the semiclassical approximation. We go beyond this approximation and demonstrate that, while operators belonging to the same ${\cal N}=4$ supermultiplet ought to have the same conformal data, the evaluation of quantum instanton corrections for one operator can be mapped into a semiclassical computation for an…
We consider leading strong coupling corrections to the energy of the lightest massive string modes in AdS_5 x S^5, which should be dual to members of the Konishi operator multiplet in N=4 SYM theory. This determines the general structure of the strong-coupling expansion of the anomalous dimension of the Konishi operator. We use 1-loop results for several semiclassical string states to extract information about the leading coefficients in this expansion. Our prediction is Delta= 2 lambda^{1/4} + b_0 + b_1 lambda^{-1/4} + b_3 lambda^{-3/4} +..., where b_0 and b_1 are rational while b_3 is transc…
In this paper we revisit the analysis of vacua in N=2 SQCD with generic bare quark masses, softly broken by a mass term for the chiral superfield Φin the adjoint representation of the gauge group. These vacua are labelled by an integer r (r vacua) and can be studied at the semiclassical level by means of the equations of motion (for large mass) or nonperturbatively by means of the Seiberg-Witten curve (for small mass). Making use of the Konishi anomaly and of the Dijkgraaf-Vafa superpotential we are able to interpolate between these two limits and better understand the properties of these vacu…
We present a new method for computing the Konishi anomalous dimension in N=4 SYM at weak coupling. It does not rely on the conventional Feynman diagram technique and is not restricted to the planar limit. It is based on the OPE analysis of the four-point correlation function of stress-tensor multiplets, which has been recently constructed up to six loops. The Konishi operator gives the leading contribution to the singlet SU(4) channel of this OPE. Its anomalous dimension is the coefficient of the leading single logarithmic singularity of the logarithm of the correlation function in the double …
We review some recent progress in understanding the spectrum of energies/dimensions of strings/operators in AdS5 x S5 -- planar N=4 super Yang-Mills correspondence. We consider leading strong coupling corrections to the energy of lightest massive string modes in AdS5 x S5, which should be dual to members of the Konishi operator multiplet in the SYM theory. This determines the general structure of strong-coupling expansion of the anomalous dimension of the Konishi operator. Following arXiv:0906.4294 we use 1-loop results for semiclassical string states to extract information about the leading c…
We study the two-point function of the stress-tensor multiplet of $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM in the presence of a line defect. To be more precise, we focus on the single-trace operator of conformal dimension two that sits in the $20'$ irrep of the $\mathfrak{so}(6)_\text{R}$ R-symmetry, and add a Maldacena-Wilson line to the configuration which makes the two-point function non-trivial. We use a combination of perturbation theory and defect CFT techniques to obtain results up to next-to-leading order in the coupling constant. Being a defect CFT correlator, there exist two (super)conformal block expans…
Using information from the marginality conditions of vertex operators for the AdS_5 x S^5 superstring, we determine the structure of the dependence of the energy of quantum string states on their conserved charges and the string tension proportional to lambda^(1/2). We consider states on the leading Regge trajectory in the flat space limit which carry one or two (equal) spins in AdS_5 or S^5 and an orbital momentum in S^5, with Konishi multiplet states being particular cases. We argue that the coefficients in the energy may be found by using a semiclassical expansion. By analyzing the examples…
In four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory with gauge group $SU(N)$, we present a closed-form solution for a family of integrated four-point functions involving stress tensor multiplet composites of arbitrary R-charge. These integrated correlators are shown to be equivalent to a one-dimensional semi-infinite lattice of harmonic oscillators with nearest-neighbor interactions, evolving over the fundamental domain of $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$. The solution, exceptionally simple in an $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$-invariant eigenbasis, is exact in the R-charge $p$, rank $N$, and complexified gauge …
We consider semiclassical quantization of spiky strings spinning in AdS_3 part of AdS_5 X S^5 using integrability-based (algebraic curve) method. In the "short string" (small spin) limit the expansion of string energy starts with its flat-space expression. We compute the leading quantum string correction to "short" spiky string energy and find the explicit form of the corresponding 1-loop coefficient a_01. It turns out to be rational and expressed in terms of the harmonic sums as functions of the number n of spikes. In the special case of n=2 when the spiky string reduces to the single-folded …
The Large Charge sector of Conformal Field Theory (CFT) can generically be described through a semiclassical expansion around a superfluid background. In this work, focussing on $U(1)$ invariant Wilson-Fisher fixed points, we study the spectrum of spinning large charge operators. For sufficiently low spin these correspond to the phonon excitations of the superfluid state. We discuss the organization of these states into conformal multiplets and the form of the corresponding composite operators in the free field theory limit. The latter entails a mapping, built order-by-order in the inverse cha…
We compute exactly various 4-point correlation functions of shortest scalar operators in bi-scalar planar four-dimensional "fishnet" CFT. We apply the OPE to extract from these functions the exact expressions for the scaling dimensions and the structure constants of all exchanged operators with an arbitrary Lorentz spin. In particular, we determine the conformal data of the simplest unprotected two-magnon operator analogous to the Konishi operator, as well as of the one-magnon operator. We show that at weak coupling 4-point correlation functions can be systematically expanded in terms of harmo…
We study Baxter's T-Q equation of XXX spin-chain models under the semiclassical limit where an intriguing SU(N)/SU(2)^{N-3} correspondence emerges. That is, two kinds of 4D \mathcal{N}=2 superconformal field theories having the above different gauge groups are encoded simultaneously in one Baxter's T-Q equation which captures their spectral curves. For example, while one is SU(N_c) with N_f=2N_c flavors the other turns out to be SU(2)^{N_c-3} with N_c hyper-multiplets (N_c > 3). It is seen that the corresponding Seiberg-Witten differential supports our proposal.
