A Lagrangian derivation of the Equation of Motion (EOM) for static spherically symmetric metrics in F(R) modified gravity is presented. For a large class of metrics, our approach permits to reduce the EOM to a single equation and we show how it is possible to construct exact solutions in $F(R)$-gravity. All known exact solutions are recovered. We also exibit a new non trivial solution with non constant Ricci scalar.
Spherically symmetric static vacuum solutions have been built in $f(T)$ models of gravity theory. We apply some conditions on the metric components; then the new vacuum spherically symmetric solutions are obtained. Also, by extracting metric coefficients we determine the analytical form of $f(T)$.
We study spherically-symmetric solutions in Massive Gravity generated by matter sources with polytropic equation of state. We concentrate in the non-perturbative regime where the mass term non-linearities are important, and present the main features of the solutions.
We derive general static spherically symmetric solutions in the Horava theory of gravity with nonzero shift field. These represent "hedgehog" versions of black holes with radial "hair" arising from the shift field. For the case of the standard de Witt kinetic term (lambda =1) there is an infinity of solutions that exhibit a deformed version of reparametrization invariance away from the general relativistic limit. Special solutions also arise in the anisotropic conformal point lambda = 1/3.
We derive the global properties of static spherically symmetric solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system in the presence of an arbitrary exponential dilaton potential. We show that -- with the exception of a pure cosmological constant `potential' -- no asymptotically flat, asymptotically de Sitter or asymptotically anti-de Sitter solutions exist in these models.
We consider the new horizon first law in $f(R)$ theory with general spherically symmetric black hole. We derive the general formulas to computed the entropy and energy of the black hole. For applications, some nontrivial black hole solutions in some popular $f(R)$ theories are investigated, the entropies and the energies of black holes in these models are first calculated.
A recent paper promises new constructions that may make it possible to achieve covariance in spherically symmetric models of loop quantum gravity. This claim is contrary to the discovery of several stubborn obstacles to covariance uncovered in the same models during the last few years. As the authors point out in their abstract, new progress is supposedly possible if one takes into account crucial features of a certain partial Abelianization of the gauge transformations of spherically symmetric gravity, published by the same authors. In canonical form, these gauge transformations are given by …
We study the stability of static, spherically symmetric solutions of Rastall's theory in the presence of a scalar field with respect to spherically symmetric perturbations. It is shown that the stability analysis is inconsistent in the sense that linear time-dependent perturbations cannot exist, and we can conclude that these solutions are stable. Possible reasons for this inconsistency are discussed.
f(Q) gravity is the extension of symmetric teleparallel general relativity (STGR), in which both curvature and torsion vanish, and gravity is attributed to nonmetricity. This work performs theoretical analyses of static and spherically symmetric solutions with an anisotropic fluid for general f(Q) gravity. We find that the off-diagonal component of the field equation due to a coincident gauge leads to stringent restrictions on the functional form of f(Q) gravity. In addition, although the exact Schwarzschild solution only exists in STGR, we obtain Schwarzschild-like solutions in nontrivial f(Q…
We investigate the proper projective collineation in non-static spherically symmetric space-times using direct integration and algebraic techniques. Studying projective collineation in the above space-times, it is shown that the space-times which admit proper projective collineations turn out to be very special classes of static spherically symmetric space-times.
We construct all independent local scalar monomials in the Riemann tensor at arbitrary dimension, for the special regime of static, spherically symmetric geometries. Compared to general spaces, their number is significantly reduced: the extreme example is the collapse of all invariants ~ Weyl^k, to a single term at each k. The latter is equivalent to the Lovelock invariant L_k. Depopulation is less extreme for invariants involving rising numbers of Ricci tensors, and also depends on the dimension. The corresponding local gravitational actions and their solution spaces are discussed.
It is known that spherically symmetric static spacetimes admit a foliation by °at hypersurfaces. Such foliations have explicitly been constructed for some spacetimes, using different approaches, but none of them have proved or even discussed the uniqueness of these foliations. The issue of uniqueness becomes more important due to suitability of °at foliations for studying black hole physics. Here °at spherically symmetric spacelike hy- persurfaces are obtained by a direct method. It is found that spherically symmetric static spacetimes admit °at spherically symmetric hypersurfaces, and that th…
We derive matter collineations for some static spherically symmetric spacetimes and compare the results with Killing, Ricci and Curvature symmetries. We conclude that matter and Ricci collineations are not, in general, the same.
We have studied the properties of the static, spherically symmetric solution of Jordan, Brans-Dicke theory. An exact interior solution for standard space-time line element in the Schwarzschild form is obtained.
This article is devoted to static spherically symmetric black hole solutions of dRGT (de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley) massive gravity in the presence of cosmological constant. The unitary and non-unitary gauges are used to find the solutions in three, four and five dimensions. We show that there are two general classes of solutions. In one of them, the effect of massive potential is appeared as the effective cosmological constant. By investigating these solutions in different dimensions, we find an expression for effective cosmological constant in arbitrary dimensions.
Canonical quantization of spherically symmetric space-times is carried out, using real-valued densitized triads and extrinsic curvature components, with specific factor ordering choices ensuring in an anomaly free quantum constraint algebra. Comparison with previous work [1] reveals that the resulting physical Hilbert space has the same form, although the basic canonical variables are different in the two approaches. As an extension, holonomy modifications from Loop Quantum Gravity are shown to deform the Dirac space-time algebra, while going beyond `effective' calculations.
We categorize the global structure of spherically symmetric static solutions of Einstein SU(2) Yang Mills equations with positive cosmological constant that are smooth at the center of spherical symmetry.
Static, spherically symmetric solutions representing stars made of barotropic perfect fluid are studied in the context of two theories of type-II minimally modified gravity, VCDM and VCCDM. Both of these theories share the property that no additional degree of freedom is introduced in the gravity sector, and propagate only two gravitational waves besides matter fields, as in General Relativity (GR). We find that, on imposing physical boundary conditions on the Misner-Sharp mass of the system, the solutions in V(C)CDM exactly coincide with the ones in GR, namely they also satisfy the Tolman-Opp…
We investigate static and spherically symmetric solutions in the Minimal Theory of Bigravity (MTBG). First, we show that a pair of Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetimes with different cosmological constants and black hole masses written in the spatially-flat Gullstrand-Painlevé (GP) coordinates is a solution in the self-accelerating branch of MTBG, while it cannot be a solution in the normal branch. We then illustrate how Schwarzschild-de Sitter solutions can become compatible with the normal branch when using different coordinates. We also confirm that the self-accelerating branch of MTBG admits…
Static spherically symmetric solutions for conformal gravity in three dimensions are found. Black holes and wormholes are included within this class. Asymptotically the black holes are spacetimes of arbitrary constant curvature, and they are conformally related to the matching of different solutions of constant curvature by means of an improper conformal transformation. The wormholes can be constructed from suitable identifications of a static universe of negative spatial curvature, and it is shown that they correspond to the conformal matching of two black hole solutions with the same mass.
Utilizing the previously established general formalism for quantum symmetry reduction in the framework of loop quantum gravity the spectrum of the area operator acting on spherically symmetric states in 4 dimensional pure gravity is investigated. The analysis requires a careful treatment of partial gauge fixing in the classical symmetry reduction and of the reinforcement of SU(2)-gauge invariance for the quantization of the area operator. The eigenvalues of that operator applied to spherically symmetric spin network states have the form A_n propor. sqrt{n(n+2)}, n=0,1,2..., giving A_n propor. …
We study a theory of gravity of the form $f(\mathcal{G})$ where $\mathcal{G}$ is the Gauss-Bonnet topological invariant without considering the standard Einstein-Hilbert term as common in the literature, in arbitrary $(d+1)$ dimensions. The approach is motivated by the fact that, in particular conditions, the Ricci curvature scalar can be easily recovered and then a pure $f(\cal G)$ gravity can be considered a further generalization of General Relativity like $f(R)$ gravity. Searching for Noether symmetries, we specify the functional forms invariant under point transformations in a static and …
We discuss a gauge fixing of gravity coupled to a scalar field in spherical symmetry such that the Hamiltonian is an integral over space of a local density. In a previous paper we had presented it using Ashtekar's new variables. Here we study it in metric variables. We specify completely the initial-boundary value problem for ingoing Gaussian pulses.
We study dynamical surface gravity in a general spherically symmetric setting using Painlevé-Gullstrand (PG) coordinates. Our analysis includes several definitions that have been proposed in the past as well as two new definitions adapted to PG coordinates. Various properties are considered, including general covariance, value at extremality, locality and static limit. We illustrate with specific examples of "dirty" black holes that even for spacetimes possessing a global timelike Killing vector, local definitions of surface gravity can differ substantially from "non-local" ones that require a…
We investigate solutions of Einstein field equations for the non-static spherically symmetric perfect fluid case using different equations of state. The properties of an exact spherically symmetric perfect fluid solutions are obtained which contain shear. We obtain three different solutions out of these one turns out to be an incoherent dust solution and the other two are stiff matter solutions.
Starting from Clifton's spherical static solution for f(R)-gravity we can derive axial symmetric solutions using a methods that takes the advantage of a complex coordinate transformation. The new solutions are generated by applying the Newman-Janis algorithm previously used to transform any static spherically symmetric into axially metric in General Relativity
In terms of Sturm's theorem, we reexamine a marginal stable circular orbit (MSCO) such as the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) of a timelike geodesic in any spherically symmetric and static spacetime. MSCOs for some of exact solutions to the Einstein's equation are discussed. Strum's theorem is explicitly applied to the Kottler (often called Schwarzschild-de Sitter) spacetime. Moreover, we analyze MSCOs for a spherically symmetric, static and vacuum solution in Weyl conformal gravity.
Spherical reduction of generic four-dimensional theories is revisited. Three different notions of "spherical symmetry" are defined. The following sectors are investigated: Einstein-Cartan theory, spinors, (non-)abelian gauge fields and scalar fields. In each sector a different formalism seems to be most convenient: the Cartan formulation of gravity works best in the purely gravitational sector, the Einstein formulation is convenient for the Yang-Mills sector and for reducing scalar fields, and the Newman-Penrose formalism seems to be the most transparent one in the fermionic sector. Combining …
We discuss the physical interpretation of stress-energy tensors that source static spherically symmetric Kerr-Schild metrics. We find that the sources of such metrics with no curvature singularities or horizons do not simultaneously satisfy the weak and strong energy conditions. Sensible stress-energy tensors usually satisfy both of them. Under most circumstances these sources are not perfect fluids and contain shear stresses. We show that for these systems the classical double copy associates the electric charge density to the Komar energy density. In addition, we demonstrate that the stress-…
We derive the Hamiltonian for spherically symmetric Lovelock gravity using the geometrodynamics approach pioneered by Kuchař in the context of four-dimensional general relativity. When written in terms of the areal radius, the generalized Misner-Sharp mass and their conjugate momenta, the generic Lovelock action and Hamiltonian take on precisely the same simple forms as in general relativity. This result supports the interpretation of Lovelock gravity as the natural higher-dimensional extension of general relativity. It also provides an important first step towards the study of the quantum mec…
There was obtained a numerical external solution for the exact system of the RTG equations with some natural boundary conditions in the static spherically symmetric case. The properties of the solution are discussed.
We prove under certain assumptions no-hair theorems for non-canonical self-gravitating static multiple scalar fields in spherically symmetric spacetimes. It is shown that the only static, spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat black hole solutions consist of the Schwarzschild metric and a constant multi-scalar map. We also prove that there are no static, horizonless, asymptotically flat, spherically symmetric solutions with static scalar fields and a regular center. The last theorem shows that the static, asymptotically flat, spherically symmetric reflecting compact objects with Neumann…
We investigate the field equations in the Einstein-aether theory for static spherically symmetric spacetimes and a perfect fluid source and subsequently with the addition of a scalar field (with an exponential self-interacting potential). We introduce more appropriate dynamical variables that facilitate the study of the equilibrium points of the resulting dynamical system and, in addition, we discuss the dynamics at infinity. We study the qualitative properties of the models with a particular interest in their asymptotic behaviour and whether they admit singularities. We also present a number …
We have found some new exact static spherically symmetric interior solutions of metric $f(R)$ gravitational theories describing the equilibrium configuration of a star. Then the solution is matched to the exterior solution and thus gives a complete description of a star in $R^{1-n/2}$ theory.
Using tunnelling approach, Hawking radiation is derived for a general class of non-static spherically symmetric space time. The standard tunnelling rate formula is obtained using the unified first law of thermodynamics on the trapping horizon and Hawking temperature is measured by an Kodama observer inside the horizon.
In this paper we describe a model of a four-dimensional spherically symmetric black hole in a limiting curvature theory of gravity. In this theory the Einstein-Hilbert action is modified by adding to the action terms providing inequality constraints on chosen curvature invariants. We demonstrated that in such a model, instead of formation of the curvature singularity, the spacetime remains regular in the black hole interior. For black holes with gravitational radius much larger than the radius $\ell$ of the critical curvature the obtained solutions describe a space exponentially expanding in o…
In this paper we investigate spherically symmetric vacuum solutions of $f(R)$ gravity in a higher dimensional spacetime. With this objective we construct a system of non-linear differential equations, whose solutions depend on the explicit form assumed for the function $F(R)=\frac{df(R)}{dR}$. We explicit show that for specific classes of this function exact solutions from the field equations are obtained; also we find approximated results for the metric tensor for more general cases admitting $F(R)$ close to the unity.
An analitical approximation of $<ϕ^2>$ for a massive scalar field in a zero temperature vacuum state in static spherically symmetric spacetimes is obtained. The calculations are based on the method for computing vacuum expectations values for scalar fields in general static spherically symmetric spacetimes derived by Anderson, Hiscock and Samuel [Phys. Rev. D {\bf 51}, 4337 (1995)]. The analitical approximation is used to compute $<ϕ^2>$ in Schwarzschild and wormhole spacetimes.
We use Moeller's energy-momentum complex in order to explicitly compute the energy and momentum density distributions for an exact solution of Einstein's field equations with a negative cosmological constant minimally coupled to a static massless scalar field in a static, spherically symmetric background in (2+1)-dimensions.
We consider the interesting "near-horizon test" reported in (PRD84, 084006(2011), arXiv:1107.5727) for any static, spherically symmetric (SSS) black hole solution admitted in f(R) gravity. Before adopting the necessary conditions for the test, however, revisions are needed as we point out in this Comment.
Nonlocal terms in the Einstein Hilbert(EH) action appears as IR corrections in effective theory of quantum gravity. Here we have considered such an action keeping the terms which are quadratic in Ricci Scalar. We obtain the solution for a spherical symmetric. We conduct an analysis for linearised gravity action and find the Newtonian potentials of linearized gravity action and count the degrees of freedom. Finally we reproduce the results for few known examples found in literature.
We determine the conditions under which a static spherically symmetric spacetime metric is equivalent to a perturbed Friedman-Robertson-Walker metric. We construct the correspondence between the two metrics and discuss a simple application.
A study of proper teleparallel conformal vector field in spherically symmetric static space-times is given using the direct integration technique and diagonal tetrads. In this study we show that the above space-times do not admit proper teleparallel conformal vector fields.
It is shown that for the spherically-symmetric and static systems the hypotheses posed by Yang and Radinschi and by Vagenas can be related to the particular distribution of the source. Simple proofs are given and a number of examples are discussed with the special emphasis put on the quantum corrected Schwarzschild black hole.
We consider the dynamical stability of a class of static, spherically-symmetric solutions of the nonsymmetric gravitational theory. We numerically reproduce the Wyman solution and generate new solutions for the case where the theory has a nontrivial fundamental length scale μ^{-1}. By considering spherically symmetric perturbations of these solutions we show that the Wyman solutions are generically unstable.
Finding spherically symmetric exact solutions in modified gravity is usually a difficult task. In this paper we use the Noether's symmetry approach for a modified Teleparallel theory of gravity labelled as $f(T,B)$ gravity where $T$ is the scalar torsion and $B$ the boundary term. Using the Noether's theorem, we were able to find exact spherically symmetric solutions for different forms of the function $f(T,B)$ coming from the Noether's symmetries.
We study a four-dimensional gauge theory of the Poincaré group with topological action which generalizes some well-known two-dimensional gravity models. We classify the spherically symmetric solutions and discuss the perturbative propagation of excitations around flat spacetime.
We consider static spherically symmetric solutions of the Einstein equations with cosmological constant coupled to the SU(2) Yang Mills equations. We prove that most solutions can be continued back to the origin of spherical symmetry and that the qualitative behavior of solutions near this origin does not depend on the value of the cosmological constant.
We classify all the six derivative Lagrangians of gravity, whose traced field equations are of second or third order, in arbitrary dimensions. In the former case, the Lagrangian in dimensions greater than six, reduces to an arbitrary linear combination of the six dimensional Euler density and the two linearly independent cubic Weyl invariants. In five dimensions, besides the independent cubic Weyl invariant, we obtain an interesting cubic combination, whose field equations for static spherically symmetric spacetimes are of second order. In the later case, in arbitrary dimensions we obtain two …
The possibility of spherically symmetric solutions in bi-metric theory of gravity is examined. It is shown that two possible black hole type solutions exists in the model. Spherically symmetric solution of general theory of relativity is recovered in the absence of the second metric. The result is compared with other bi-metric models as well as general theory of relativity.
In this paper we analyze spherically symmetric static vacuum solutions with various topologies in mimetic gravity. When the Einstein's tensor is different from zero, a new class of solutions different from the Schwarzschild one emerges from the theory. We analyze the feature of the new solutions and we study the planar motion for the spherical case.
This work is concerned with the finiteness problem for static, spherically symmetric perfect fluids in both Newtonian Gravity and General Relativity. We derive criteria on the barotropic equation of state guaranteeing that the corresponding perfect fluid solutions possess finite/infinite extent. In the Newtonian case, for the large class of monotonic equations of state, and in General Relativity we improve earlier results.
The gravity-scalar field system in spherical symmetry provides a natural setting for exploring gravitational collapse and its aftermath in quantum gravity. In a canonical approach, we give constructions of the Hamiltonian operator, and of semiclassical states peaked on constraint free data. Such states provide explicit examples of physical states. We also show that matter-gravity entanglement is an inherent feature of physical states, whether or not there is a black hole.
An algorithm presented by K. Lake to obtain all static spherically symmetric perfect fluid solutions was recently extended by L. Herrera to the interesting case of locally anisotropic fluids (principal stresses unequal). In this work we develop an algorithm to construct all static spherically symmetric anisotropic solutions for general relativistic polytropes. Again the formalism requires the knowledge of only one function (instead of two) to generate all possible solutions. To illustrate the method some known cases are recovered.
