The magnetic brane solution to five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory provides a holographic description of the RG flow from four-dimensional Yang-Mills theory in the presence of a constant magnetic field to a two-dimensional low energy CFT. We compute two-point correlators involving the U(1) current and the stress tensor, and use their leading IR behavior to confirm the existence of a single chiral current algebra, and of left- and right-moving Virasoro algebras in the low energy CFT. The common central charge of the Virasoro algebras is found to match the Brown-Henneaux formula, while the level of the current algebra is related to the Chern-Simons coupling. The coordinate reparametrizations produced by the Virasoro algebras on the AdS_3 near-horizon geometry arise from physical non-pure gauge modes in the asymptotic AdS_5 region, thereby providing a concrete example for the emergence of IR symmetries. Finally, we interpret the infinite series of sub-leading IR contributions to the correlators in terms of certain double-trace interactions generated by the RG flow in the low energy CFT.
D-brane correlators as solutions of Hirota-Miwa equation
We propose a useful integral representation of the quenched free energy which is applicable to any random systems. Our formula involves the generating function of multi-boundary correlators, which can be interpreted on the bulk gravity side as spacetime D-branes introduced by Marolf and Maxfield in [arXiv:2002.08950]. As an example, we apply our formalism to the Airy limit of the random matrix model and compute its quenched free energy under certain approximations of the generating function of correlators. It turns out that the resulting quenched free energy is a monotonically decreasing funct…
The low energy limit of the stress tensor, gauge current, and supercurrent two-point correlators are calculated in the background of the supersymmetric magnetic brane solution to gauged five-dimensional supergravity constructed by Almuhairi and Polchinski. The resulting correlators provide evidence for the emergence of an N=2 super-Virasoro algebra of right-movers, in addition to a bosonic Virasoro algebra and a $U(1) \oplus U(1)$-current algebra of left-movers (or the parity transform of left- and right-movers depending on the sign of the magnetic field), in the holographically dual strongly …
We calculate bulk and boundary correlators in JT gravity by summing over geometries. The answers are reproduced by computing suitable ensemble averages of correlators of chaotic quantum systems. We then consider bulk correlators at large spatial separations and find that semiclassical decay eventually makes way for erratic oscillations around some nonzero answer. There is no cluster decomposition because of wormholes connecting distant regions. We construct more microscopic versions of JT gravity which are dual to a single quantum system by including a set of branes in the gravitational theory…
In this Letter, based on the notion of Gauge/Gravity duality we explore the low frequency behaviour associated with the retarded two point correlators in the ground state of the strongly correlated quantum liquid that is dual to $ η$- deformed background in ($ 2+1 $)D. The massless charge carriers in the dual gauge theory are sourced due to some \textit{probe} $ N_f $ flavour $ Dp $ brane configurations in the bulk. In our analysis we stick to the NS sector and compute the two point correlators by turning on fluctuations associated with the worldvolume gauge fields in the bulk spacetime. Our a…
We study the shear momentum diffusion and related modes of a strongly coupled $(2+1)$-dimensional conformal field theory at finite temperature and chemical potential, using a dual holographic description. We consider a space-time filling charged black brane solution of Einstein's gravity in $(3+1)$-dimensional asymptotically Anti-de Sitter space coupled to a $U(1)$ gauge field via a Dirac-Born-Infeld action. In addition to temperature and chemical potential, the holographic model has two other parameters: the tension of the brane, and the non-linearity parameter controlling the higher-derivati…
We consider the simplest possible setting of non abelian twist fields which corresponds to $SU(2)$ monodromies. We first review the theory of hypergeometric function and of the solutions of the most general Fuchsian second order equation with three singularities. Then we solve the problem of writing the general solution with prescribed $U(2)$ monodromies. We use this result to compute the classical string solution corresponding to three $D2$ branes in $R^4$. Despite the fact the configuration is supersymmetric the classical string solution is not holomorphic. Using the equation of motion and n…
We consider three-point correlation functions for superstrings propagating in AdS$_3\times S^3 \times T^4$. In the RNS formalism, these generically involve correlators with current insertions. When vertex operators with non-trivial spectral flow charges are present, their complicated OPEs with the currents imply that standard methods can not be used to compute such correlators. Here we develop novel techniques for computing all $m$-basis correlators of the supersymmetric model. We then show how, in some cases, these results can be translated to the $x$-basis. We obtain a new family of holograp…
Gradient flow has been proposed in the lattice community as a tool to reduce the sensitivity of operator correlation functions to noisy UV fluctuations. We test perturbatively under what conditions doing so may contaminate the results. To do so, we compute gradient-flowed electric field two-point correlators and stress tensor one- and two-point correlators at finite temperature in QCD. Gradient flow has almost no influence on the value of correlators until a (temperature- and separation-dependent) level of flow is reached, after which the correlator is rapidly compromised. We provide a prescri…
To study the quantized Coulomb branch of 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ unitary SQCD theories, we propose a new method to compute correlators of monopole and Casimir operators that are inserted in the $\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^2_ε$ Omega background. This method combines results from supersymmetric localization with inputs from the brane realisation of the correlators in type IIB string theory. The main challenge is the computation of the partition functions of certain Super-Matrix-Models (SMMs), which appear in the contribution of monopole bubbling sectors and are realised as the theory living on the D1…
We describe a one-parameter family of new holographic RG flows that start from $AdS_4 \times S^7$ and go to $\widehat{AdS_5} \times {\cal B}_6$, where ${\cal B}_6$ is conformal to a Kähler manifold and $\widehat{AdS_5}$ is Poincaré $AdS_5$ with one spatial direction compactified and fibered over ${\cal B}_6$. The new solutions "flow up dimensions," going from the $(2+1)$-dimensional conformal field theory on M2 branes in the UV to a $(3+1)$-dimensional field theory on intersecting M5 branes in the infra-red. The M2 branes completely polarize into M5 branes along the flow and the Poincaré secti…
We show that a dynamical transition from a non-heating to a heating phase of a periodic $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ driven two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT) with a large central charge is perceived as a first order transition by a bulk brane embedded in the dual AdS. We construct the dual bulk metric corresponding to a driven CFT for both the heating and the non-heating phases. These metrics are different AdS$_{2}$ slices of the pure AdS$_{3}$ metric. We embed a brane in the obtained dual AdS space and provide an explicit computation of its free energy both in the probe limit and for an end-…
We explore N=(1,0) superconformal six-dimensional theories arising from M5-branes probing a transverse A_k singularity. Upon circle compactification to 5 dimensions, we describe this system with a dual pq-web of five-branes and propose the spectrum of basic five-dimensional instanton operators driving global symmetry enhancement. For a single M5-brane, we find that the exact partition function of the 5d quiver gauge theory matches the 6d (1,0) index, which we compute by letter counting. We finally show that S-duality of the pq-web implies new relations among vertex correlators of qW-algebrae.
The addition of supersymmetric Chern-Simons terms to ${\cal N}=8$ super-Yang-Mills theory in three-dimensions is expected to make the latter flow into infrared superconformal phases. We address this problem holographically by studying the effect of the Romans mass on the D2-brane near-horizon geometry. Working in a consistent, effective four-dimensional setting provided by $D=4$ ${\cal N}=8$ supergravity with a dyonic $\textrm{ISO(7)}$ gauging, we verify the existence of a rich web of supersymmetric domain walls triggered by the Romans mass that interpolate between the (four-dimensional descri…
