The first measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than those measured at RHIC.
We develop an event mixing technique with a missing mass consistency (MMC) cut and a pion energy (PE) cut for the measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) in reactions with only two identical pions produced in the final state. A multi mixing mode that allows one event to be mixed with multiple other events is proposed for the purpose of improving the statistics of mixed samples, and compared with the single mixing mode which requires one original event can be mixed only once. Numerical tests using the γp -> π^0 π^0 p events are used to testify its ability to measure two-pion co…
We have developed an event mixing technique to observe Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) between two identical neutral pions produced in photo-induced reactions in the non-perturbative QCD energy region. It is found that the missing-mass consistency cut and the pion-energy cut are essential for the event mixing method to effectively extract BEC observables. A Monte Carlo (MC) simulation is used to validate these constraints and confirms the efficiency of this method. Our work paves the way for similar BEC studies at lower energies where the multiplicity of emitted bosons is limited.
We present the first measurement of pion source radii in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. The radii were obtained by analyzing the Bose-Einstein enhancement in two-pion correlation functions. Like at lower energies, the radii drop with increasing transverse momentum, indicating presence of collective expansion. In absolute terms, all three radii (Rout, Rside, Rlong) are larger than at RHIC, roughly consistent with a linear scaling with the cube root of the particle multiplicity.
Invariant yields of neutral pions at midrapidity in the transverse momentum range $0.6 < p_{T} < 12 GeV/c$ measured in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ TeV are presented for six centrality classes. The pp reference spectrum was measured in the range $0.4 < p_{T} < 10 GeV/c$ at the same center-of-mass energy. The nuclear modification factor, $R_{\rm AA}$, shows a suppression of neutral pions in central Pb-Pb collisions by a factor of up to about $8-10$ for $5 \lesssim p_{T} \lesssim 7 GeV/c$. The presented measurements are compared with results at lower center-of-mass energies and…
Three- and four-pion Bose-Einstein correlations are presented in pp, p-Pb, and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. We compare our measured four-pion correlations to the expectation derived from two- and three-pion measurements. Such a comparison provides a method to search for coherent pion emission. We also present mixed-charge correlations in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of several analysis procedures such as Coulomb corrections. Same-charge four-pion correlations in pp and p-Pb appear consistent with the expectations from three-pion measurements. However, the presence of non-negligible b…
Measurement of quantumstatistical correlation functions in high energy nuclear physics is an important tool to investigate the QCD phase diagram. It may be used to search for the critical point, and also to understand underlying processes such as in-medium mass modifications or partially coherent particle production. Furthermore, the measurements of the femtoscopic correlation functions shed light on the space-time structure of particle production. Consequently, the precise measurements and description of the correlation functions are essential. The shape of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlation …
We report the results of the femtoscopic analysis of pairs of identical pions measured in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV. Femtoscopic radii are determined as a function of event multiplicity and pair momentum in three spatial dimensions. As in the pp collision system, the analysis is complicated by the presence of sizable background correlation structures in addition to the femtoscopic signal. The radii increase with event multiplicity and decrease with pair transverse momentum. When taken at comparable multiplicity, the radii measured in p-Pb collisions, at high multipli…
The measurement of pion source radii in Pb-Pb collisions with the ALICE experiment at LHC is presented. By the analysis of Bose-Einstein enhancement in the correlation function of identical pions information on the size and evolution of the source region in space-time can be obtained. The source radii observed at LHC are larger than at RHIC, approximately scaling with the cube root of the particle multiplicity. A decrease of source radii with increasing pair momentum, indicating a collective expansion of the medium, was observed at RHIC and SPS and is also expected at LHC energies. The ALICE d…
In this work we report on the production of charged pions, kaons, and (anti) protons in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt{s_NN}= 2.76 TeV for 3 < pT < 20 GeV/c. The evolution of the nuclear modification factor, RAA, with collision centrality and transverse momentum is discussed.
Investigation of femtoscopic correlation functions in relativistic heavy ion reactions is an important tool to access the space-time structure of particle production in the sQGP. The shape of the correlation functions is often assumed to be Gaussian, but a detailed analysis reveals that the statistically correct assumption could be the so-called Lévy distribution. The detailed analysis of correlation functions in various systems may shed light on the location of the critical endpoint on the QCD phase diagram. It could also reveal if there is partially coherent pion production or could indicate…
Invariant cross sections for neutral pions and eta mesons in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV were measured by the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations describe the pi0 and eta spectra at 0.9 TeV, but overestimate the measured cross sections at 2.76 TeV and 7 TeV. The measured eta/pi0 ratio is consistent with mT scaling at 2.76 TeV. At 7 TeV indications for a violation of mT scaling were found.
Correlations induced by quantum statistics are sensitive to the spatio-temporal extent as well as dynamics of particle emitting sources in heavy-ion collisions. In addition, such correlations can be used to search for the presence of a coherent component of pion production. Two and three-pion correlations of same and mixed-charge are measured at low relative momentum to estimate the coherent fraction of charged pions in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV at the LHC with ALICE. The genuine three-pion quantum statistics correlation is found to be suppressed relative to the two-pion…
Femtoscopic correlations between charged pions and kaons for different charge combinations are measured in Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The three-dimensional pion-kaon ($π-{\rm K}$) correlation functions and double ratios in the out-side-long pair rest frame are studied in different centrality bins. The $π-{\rm K}$ femtoscopic source size parameter ($R_{\rm out}$) and emission asymmetry ($μ_{\rm out}$) are extracted. It is observed that the average source size of the system and the emission asymmetry between pions and kaons increase from peripheral …
We report on the measurement of freeze-out radii for pairs of identical-charge pions measured in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV as a function of collision centrality and the average transverse momentum of the pair $k_{\rm T}$. Three-dimensional sizes of the system (femtoscopic radii), as well as direction-averaged one-dimensional radii are extracted. The radii decrease with $k_{\rm T}$, following a power-law behavior. This is qualitatively consistent with expectations from a collectively expanding system, produced in hydrodynamic calculations. The radii also scale linearly w…
We argue that the two-particle momentum correlation functions of high-multiplicity $p+p$ collisions at the LHC provide a signal for a ground state structure of a quasi equilibrium state of the longitudinally boost-invariant expanding quantum field which lies in the future light cone of a collision. The physical picture is that pions are produced by the expanding quantum emitter with two different scales approximately attributed to the expanding ideal gas in local equilibrium state and ground-state condensate. Specifically, we show that the effect of suppressing the two-particle Bose-Einstein m…
First measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy of neutral pions produced in PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s(NN)) = 2.76 TeV are presented. The amplitudes of the second Fourier component (v2) of the neutral pion azimuthal distributions are extracted using an event-plane technique. The values of v2 are studied as a function of the neutral pion transverse momentum (pt) for different classes of collision centrality in the kinematic range 1.6 < pt < 8.0 GeV, within the pseudorapidity interval abs(eta) < 0.8. The CMS measurements of v2(pt) are similar to previously reported neut…
The first measurements of the invariant differential cross sections of inclusive $π^0$ and $η$ meson production at mid-rapidity in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV are reported. The $π^0$ measurement covers the ranges $0.4<p_T<7$ GeV/$c$ and $0.3<p_T<25$ GeV/$c$ for these two energies, respectively. The production of $η$ mesons was measured at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV in the range $0.4<p_T<15$ GeV/$c$. Next-to-Leading Order perturbative QCD calculations, which are consistent with the $π^0$ spectrum at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV, overestimate those of $π^0$ and $η$ mesons at …
The possibility of formation of Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) is studied in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt s$ = 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. A thermodynamically consistent non-extensive formulation of the identified hadron transverse momentum distributions is used to estimate the critical temperature required to form BEC of charged pions, which are the most abundant species in a multi-particle production process in hadronic and nuclear collisions. The obtained results have been contrasted with the systems produced in Pb-Pb collisions to have a better understanding. We observe an explicit …
Femtoscopy of non-central heavy ion collisions provides access to information on the geometry of the effective pion-emitting source. In particular, the source shape can be studied by measuring femtoscopic radii as a function of the pion emission angle relative to the collision symmetry planes. We present the results of azimuthally differential femtoscopy of Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV at the LHC relative to the second harmonic event plane. We observe a clear oscillation of the extracted radii as a function of the emission angle. We find that $R_{side}$ and $R_{out}$ oscillate …
Femtoscopy is providing information on system size and its dynamics in heavy-ion collisions. At ultra-relativistic energies, such as those obtained at the LHC, significant production of pions, kaons and protons enables femtoscopic measurements for these particles. In particular the dependence of system size on pair momentum and particle type is interpreted as evidence for strong collective flow. Such phenomena are naturally modeled by hydrodynamics. We present calculations within the 3+1D hydrodynamic model coupled to statistical hadronization code THERMINATOR 2, corresponding to Pb--Pb collis…
We present the first azimuthally differential measurements of the pion source size relative to the second harmonic event plane in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV. The measurements have been performed in the centrality range 0-50% and for pion pair transverse momenta $0.2 < k_{\rm T} < 0.7$ GeV/$c$. We find that the $R_{\rm side}$ and $R_{\rm out}$ radii, which characterize the pion source size in the directions perpendicular and parallel to the pion transverse momentum, oscillate out of phase, similar to what was observed at …
Neutral pion and $η$ meson production in the transverse momentum range 1 < $p_{T}$ < 20 GeV/$c$ have been measured at mid-rapidity by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in central and semi-central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV. These results were obtained using the photon conversion method as well as the PHOS and EMCal detectors. The results extend the upper $p_{T}$ reach of the previous ALICE $π^{0}$ measurements from 12 GeV/$c$ to 20 GeV/$c$ and present the first measurement of $η$ meson production in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC. The $η/π^{0}$ ratio …
In this paper, the first femtoscopic analysis of pion-kaon correlations at the LHC is reported. The analysis was performed on the Pb-Pb collision data at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The non-identical particle correlations probe the spatio-temporal separation between sources of different particle species as well as the average source size of the emitting system. The sizes of the pion and kaon sources increase with centrality, and pions are emitted closer to the centre of the system and/or later than kaons. This is naturally expected in a system with strong …
Multidimensional two-particle Bose-Einstein correlation functions of charged hadrons are reported for pp collisions at 2.76 and 7 TeV in terms of different components of the pair relative momentum, extending the previous one-dimensional (1-D) analyses of CMS. This allows for investigating the extension of the source accessible to the femtoscopic correlation technique in different directions, revealing a more detailed picture of the emitting source in these collisions at increasing energies. The measurements are performed for different intervals of the pair average transverse momentum, kT, and …
A detailed study of energy dependence of positive kaon to pion, negative kaon to pion and total kaon to pion multiplicity ratio have been carried out in pp collisions at 6.3, 17.3, 62.4, 200 and 900 GeV and also at root s =2.76 TeV and 7 TeV in the framework of UrQMD and DPMJET III model. Energy dependence of positive kaon to pion and negative kaon to pion show different behavior in case of UrQMD and DPMJET III model. The presence of the horn like structure in the variation of positive kaon to pion and negative kaon to pion ratio with energy for the experimental data is supported by the DPMJET…
Transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) spectra of pions, kaons, and protons up to $p_{\rm{T}} = 20$ GeV/$c$ have been measured in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.76$ TeV using the ALICE detector for six different centrality classes covering 0-80%. The proton-to-pion and the kaon-to-pion ratios both show a distinct peak at $p_{\rm{T}} \approx 3$ GeV/$c$ in central Pb-Pb collisions that decreases towards more peripheral collisions. For $p_{\rm{T}} > 10$ GeV/$c$, the nuclear modification factor is found to be the same for all three particle species in each centrality interval within system…
Bose-Einstein momentum correlation functions of identical bosons reveal the shape and size of the (soft) particle emitting source of the given particle. The widths of these correlation functions are called HBT radii, named after Brown and Twiss who studied the angular diameter of stars via intensity correlations in their radio telescopes. Today, high energy physics experiments measure the HBT radii as a function of many parameters: particle type, transverse momentum, azimuthal angle, collision energy, collision geometry. In this paper we present results from the RHIC PHENIX experiment. These i…
The production of charged pions, kaons and (anti)protons has been measured at mid-rapidity ($-0.5 < y < 0$) in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV using the ALICE detector at the LHC. Exploiting particle identification capabilities at high transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$), the previously published $p_{\rm T}$ spectra have been extended to include measurements up to 20 GeV/$c$ for seven event multiplicity classes. The $p_{\rm T}$ spectra for pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV, needed to interpolate a pp reference spectrum, have also been extended up to 20 GeV/$c$ to measure the nucl…
In late 2017, the ALICE experiment recorded a data sample of Xe--Xe collisions at the unprecedented energy in A--A systems of $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.44\text{ TeV}$. The $p_{\rm T}$ spectra at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 0.5$) of pions, kaons and protons are presented. The preliminary $p_{\rm T}$ spectra are obtained by combining independent analyses with the Inner Tracking System (ITS), the Time Projection Chamber (TPC), and the Time-Of-Flight (TOF) detectors. This paper focuses on the details of the analysis performed with TOF and in particular on the performance implications of the special Xe--Xe …
Mid-rapidity production of $π^{\pm}$, $\rm{K}^{\pm}$ and ($\bar{\rm{p}}$)p measured by the ALICE experiment at the LHC, in Pb-Pb and inelastic pp collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV, is presented. The invariant yields are measured over a wide transverse momentum ($p_{\rm{T}}$) range from hundreds of MeV/$c$ up to 20 GeV/$c$. The results in Pb-Pb collisions are presented as a function of the collision centrality, in the range 0$-$90%. The comparison of the $p_{\rm{T}}$-integrated particle ratios, i.e. proton-to-pion (p/$π$) and kaon-to-pion (K/$π$) ratios, with similar measurements in…
The transverse momentum ($p_\text{T}$) distribution for inclusive neutral pions in the very forward rapidity region has been measured, with the Large Hadron Collider forward detector (LHCf), in proton--lead collisions at nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$TeV at the LHC. The $p_\text{T}$ spectra obtained in the rapidity range $-11.0 < y_\text{lab} < -8.9$ and $0 < p_\text{T} < 0.6$GeV (in the detector reference frame) show a strong suppression of the production of neutral pions after taking into account ultra-peripheral collisions. This leads to a nuclear modifica…
Spectra of identified charged hadrons are measured in pPb collisions with the CMS detector at the LHC at sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV. Charged pions, kaons, and protons in the transverse-momentum range pt approximately 0.1-1.7 GeV and laboratory rapidity abs(y) < 1 are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The average pt increases with particle mass and the charged multiplicity of the event. The increase of the average pt with charged multiplicity is greater for heavier hadrons. Comparisons to Monte Carlo event generators reveal that EPOS LHC, which incorporates additional hydrodyna…
Azimuthally differential femtoscopic measurements, being sensitive to spatio-temporal characteristics of the source as well as to the collective velocity fields at freeze-out, provide very important information on the nature and dynamics of the system evolution. While the HBT radii modulations relative to the second harmonic event plane reflect mostly the spatial geometry of the source, the third harmonic results are mostly defined by the velocity fields. Radii variations with respect to the third harmonic event plane unambiguously signal a collective expansion and anisotropy in the flow field…
In this Letter, comprehensive results on ${\rmπ}^\pm$, K$^\pm$, K$^0_S$, p, $\rm\bar{p}$, $\rm Λ$ and $\rm \barΛ$ production at mid-rapidity ($0 < y_{\rm cms} < 0.5$) in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV, measured by the ALICE detector at the LHC, are reported. The transverse momentum distributions exhibit a hardening as a function of event multiplicity, which is stronger for heavier particles. This behavior is similar to what has been observed in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. The measured $p_{\rm T}$ distributions are compared to results at lower energy and with predicti…
The measurement of primary $π^{\pm}$, K$^{\pm}$, p and $\overline{p}$ production at mid-rapidity ($|y| <$ 0.5) in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV performed with ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is reported. Particle identification is performed using the specific ionization energy loss and time-of-flight information, the ring-imaging Cherenkov technique and the kink-topology identification of weak decays of charged kaons. Transverse momentum spectra are measured from 0.1 up to 3 GeV/$c$ for pions, from 0.2 up to 6 GeV/$c$ for kaons and fr…
Azimuthally-differential femtoscopic measurements, being sensitive to spatio-temporal characteristics of the source as well as to the collective velocity fields at freeze out, provide very important information on the nature and dynamics of the system evolution. While the HBT radii oscillations relative to the second harmonic event plane measured recently reflect mostly the spatial geometry of the source, model studies have shown that the HBT radii oscillations relative to the third harmonic event plane are predominantly defined by the velocity fields. In this Letter, we present the first resu…
Many data in the high energy physics are, in fact, sample means. It is shown that when this exact meaning of the data is taken into account and the most weakly bound states are removed from the hadron resonance gas, the acceptable fit to the whole spectra of pions, kaons and protons measured at midrapidity in central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV [Phys.Rev.Lett.109,252301(2012)] is obtained. The invariant distributions are predicted with the help of the single-freeze-out model in the chemical equilibrium framework. Low $p_{T}$ pions and protons are reproduced simultaneously as…
Transverse momentum spectra of $π^{\pm}$, $\rm K^{\pm}$ and p($\bar{\rm p}$) up to $p_{\rm T}$ = 20 GeV/$c$ at mid-rapidity in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=$ 2.76 TeV have been measured using the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The proton-to-pion and the kaon-to-pion ratios both show a distinct peak at $p_{\rm T} \approx 3 GeV/c$ in central Pb-Pb collisions. Below the peak, $p_{\rm T}$ < 3 GeV/$c$, both ratios are in good agreement with hydrodynamical calculations, suggesting that the peak itself is dominantly the result of radial flow rather than anomalous hadron…
The first measurement of the production of pions, kaons, (anti-)protons and $ϕ$ mesons at midrapidity in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.44$ TeV is presented. Transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectra and $p_{\rm T}$-integrated yields are extracted in several centrality intervals bridging from p-Pb to mid-central Pb-Pb collisions in terms of final-state multiplicity. The study of Xe-Xe and Pb-Pb collisions allows systems at similar charged-particle multiplicities but with different initial geometrical eccentricities to be investigated. A detailed comparison of the spectral shapes in…
Quantum statistical (Bose-Einstein) two-particle correlations are measured in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV, as well as in pPb and peripheral PbPb collisions at nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energies of 5.02 and 2.76 TeV, respectively, using the CMS detector at the LHC. Separate analyses are performed for same-sign unidentified charged particles as well as for same-sign pions and kaons identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The characteristics of the one-, two-, and three-dimensional correlation functions are studied as functions of the pair average trans…
The size of the particle emission region in high-energy collisions can be deduced using the femtoscopic correlations of particle pairs at low relative momentum. Such correlations arise due to quantum statistics and Coulomb and strong final state interactions. In this paper, results are presented from femtoscopic analyses of $π^{\pm}π^{\pm}$, ${\rm K}^{\pm}{\rm K}^{\pm}$, ${\rm K}^{0}_S{\rm K}^{0}_S$, ${\rm pp}$, and ${\rm \overline{p}}{\rm \overline{p}}$ correlations from Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm {NN}}}=2.76$ TeV by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. One-dimensional radii of the sys…
Particle production in Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV is studied in the (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic model. The shapes of the calculated transverse momentum spectra of pions, kaons, protons, Xis, and Omegas are in satisfactory agreement with preliminary data of the ALICE Collaboration, while the particle ratio proton/pion is slightly overpredicted, and the strange barion yields are underpredicted.
In this Letter we report the first results on $π^\pm$, K$^\pm$, p and $\mathrm {p\overline{p}}$ production at mid-rapidity ($\left|y\right|<0.5$) in central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV, measured by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The $p_{\rm T}$ distributions and yields are compared to previous results at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV and expectations from hydrodynamic and thermal models. The spectral shapes indicate a strong increase of the radial flow velocity with $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$, which in hydrodynamic models is expected as a consequence of the increasing particl…
Non-identical particle femtoscopy measures the size of the system emitting particles ("radius") in heavy-ion collisions as well as the difference between mean emission space-time coordinates of two particle species ("emission asymmetry"). The system created in such collisions at the LHC behaves collectively and its dynamics is well described by hydrodynamic models. A significant emission asymmetry between pions and kaons, coming from collective flow, enhanced by contribution from flowing resonances is predicted. We present calculations within the (3+1)D viscous hydrodynamic model coupled to st…
Recent measurements have revealed a significant suppression of multipion Bose-Einstein correlations in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC. The suppression may be explained by postulating coherent pion emission. Typically, the suppression of Bose-Einstein correlations due to coherence is taken into account with the coherent state formalism in quantum optics. However, since charged pion correlations are most often measured, the additional constraint of isospin conservation, which is absent in quantum optics, needs to be taken into account. As a consequence, correlations emerge between pions of oppo…
One of the main goals of NA61/SHINE is the investigation of the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. NA61/SHINE observes collisions of various nuclei at different energies, allowing to study the same phenomena and observables in vastly different conditions. One of the observables related to the quark-hadron transition is the Bose-Einstein momentum correlation function of identical pions, related to the space-time structure of pion emission. In this paper we report on such measurements in Be+Be collisions at an SPS beam momentum of 150A GeV/c. Our correlation functions can be statistic…
We report on the high statistics two-pion correlation functions from pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV, measured by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The correlation functions as well as the extracted source radii scale with event multiplicity and pair momentum. When analyzed in the same multiplicity and pair transverse momentum range, the correlation is similar at the two collision energies. A three-dimensional femtoscopic analysis shows an increase of the emission zone with increasing event multiplicity as well as decreasing homogeneity lengths with in…
We present the results of three-dimensional femtoscopic analyses for charged and neutral kaons recorded by ALICE in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. Femtoscopy is used to measure the space-time characteristics of particle production from the effects of quantum statistics and final-state interactions in two-particle correlations. Kaon femtoscopy is an important supplement to that of pions because it allows one to distinguish between different model scenarios working equally well for pions. In particular, we compare the measured 3D kaon radii with a purely hydrodynamical calc…
