We present mock DensePak Integral Field Unit (IFU) velocity fields, rotation curves, and halo fits for disc galaxies formed in spherical and triaxial cuspy dark matter haloes, and spherical cored dark matter haloes. The simulated galaxies are "observed" under a variety of realistic conditions to determine how well the underlying dark matter halo can be recovered and to test the hypothesis that cuspy haloes can be mistaken for cored haloes. We find that the appearance of the velocity field is distinctly different depending on the underlying halo type. We also find that we can successfully recover the parameters of the underlying dark matter halo. Cuspy haloes appear cuspy in the data and cored haloes appear cored. Our results suggest that the cores observed using high-resolution velocity fields in real dark matter-dominated galaxies are genuine and cannot be ascribed to systematic errors, halo triaxiality, or non-circular motions.
We present a method for populating dark matter simulations with haloes of mass below the resolution limit. It is based on stochastically sampling a field derived from the density field of the halo catalogue, using constraints from the conditional halo mass function n(m|δ). We test the accuracy of the method and show its application in the context of building mock galaxy samples. We find that this technique allows precise reproduction of the two-point statistics of galaxies in mock samples constructed with this method. Our results demonstrate that the full information content of a simulation ca…
We present a new technique for creating mock catalogues of the individual stars that make up the accreted component of stellar haloes in cosmological simulations and show how the catalogues can be used to test and interpret observational data. The catalogues are constructed from a combination of methods. A semi-analytic galaxy formation model is used to calculate the star formation history in haloes in an N-body simulation and dark matter particles are tagged with this stellar mass. The tags are converted into individual stars using a stellar population synthesis model to obtain the number den…
Recent studies found the densities of dark matter (DM) subhaloes which surround nearby dwarf spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) to be significantly lower than those of the most massive subhaloes expected around Milky Way sized galaxies in cosmological simulations, the so called "too-big-to-fail" (TBTF) problem. A caveat of previous work has been that dark substructures were assumed to contain steep density cusps in the center of DM haloes even though the central density structure of DM haloes is still under debate. In this study, we re-examine the TBTF problem for models of DM density structure with …
CUSP is a powerful formalism that recovers, from first principles and with no free parameter, all the macroscopic properties of dark matter haloes found in cosmological N-body simulations and unveils the origin of their characteristic features. Since it is not restricted by the limitations of simulations, it covers the whole mass and redshift ranges. In the present Paper we use CUSP to calculate the mass-scale relations holding for halo density profiles fitted to the usual NFW and Einasto functions in the most relevant cosmologies and for the most usual mass definitions. We clarify the origin …
Observed kinematical data of 40 Local Group (LG) members are used to derive the dark matter halo mass of such galaxies. Haloes are selected from the theoretically expected LG mass function and two different density profiles are assumed, a standard universal cuspy model and a mass dependent profile which accounts for the effects of baryons in modifying the dark matter distribution within galaxies. The resulting relations between stellar and halo mass are compared with expectations from abundance matching. Using a universal cuspy profile, the ensemble of LG galaxies is fit in relatively low mass…
We use cosmological hydrodynamical galaxy formation simulations from the NIHAO project to investigate the response of cold dark matter (CDM) haloes to baryonic processes. Previous work has shown that the halo response is primarily a function of the ratio between galaxy stellar mass and total virial mass, and the density threshold above which gas is eligible to form stars, $n [{\rm cm}^{-3}]$. At low $n$ all simulations in the literature agree that dwarf galaxy haloes are cuspy, but at high $n\ge 100$ there is no consensus. We trace halo contraction in dwarf galaxies with $n\ge 100$ reported in…
A very large dynamic range with simultaneous capture of both large- and small-scales in the simulations of cosmic structures is required for correct modelling of many cosmological phenomena, particularly at high redshift. This is not always available, or when it is, it makes such simulations very expensive. We present a novel sub-grid method for modelling low-mass ($10^5\,M_\odot\leq M_{\rm halo}\leq 10^9\,M_\odot$) haloes, which are otherwise unresolved in large-volume cosmological simulations limited in numerical resolution. In addition to the deterministic halo bias that captures the averag…
We constrain properties of cluster haloes by performing likelihood analysis using lensing shear and flexion data. We test our analysis using two mock cluster haloes: an isothermal ellipsoid (SIE) model and a more realistic elliptical Navarro-Frenk-White (eNFW) model. For both haloes, we find that flexion is more sensitive to the halo ellipticity than shear. The introduction of flexion information significantly improves the constraints on halo ellipticity, orientation and mass. We also point out that there is a degeneracy between the mass and the ellipticity of SIE models in the lensing signal.
In the present paper, we improve the "Extended Secondary Infall Model" (ESIM) of Williams et al. (2004) to obtain further insights on the cusp/core problem. The model takes into account the effect of ordered and random angular momentum, dynamical friction and baryon adiabatic contraction in order to obtain a secondary infall model more close to the collapse reality. The model is applied to structures on galactic scales (normal and dwarf spiral galaxies) and on cluster of galaxies scales. The results obtained suggest that angular momentum and dynamical friction are able, on galactic scales, to …
We present an accurate and fast framework for generating mock catalogues including low-mass halos, based on an implementation of the COmoving Lagrangian Acceleration (COLA) technique. Multiple realisations of mock catalogues are crucial for analyses of large-scale structure, but conventional N-body simulations are too computationally expensive for the production of thousands of realisations. We show that COLA simulations can produce accurate mock catalogues with a moderate computation resource for low- to intermediate- mass galaxies in $10^{12} M_\odot$ haloes, both in real and redshift space.…
The scientific exploitation of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument Bright Galaxy Survey (DESI BGS) data requires the construction of mocks with galaxy population properties closely mimicking those of the actual DESI BGS targets. We create a high fidelity mock galaxy catalogue, including information about galaxies and their host dark matter subhaloes. The mock catalogue uses subhalo abundance matching (SHAM) with scatter to populate the P-Millennium N-body simulation with galaxies at the median BGS redshift of ~ 0.2, using formation redshift information to assign (g-r) rest-frame colours. …
Predicting the spatial distribution of objects as a function of cosmology is an essential ingredient for the exploitation of future galaxy surveys. In this paper we show that a specially-designed suite of gravity-only simulations together with cosmology-rescaling algorithms can provide the clustering of dark matter, haloes, and subhaloes with high precision. Specifically, with only 3 $N$-body simulations we obtain the power spectrum of dark matter at $z=0$ and $z=1$ to better than 3\% precision for essentially all currently viable values of 8 cosmological parameters, including massive neutrino…
The structural and dynamic properties of the dark matter halos, though an important ingredient in understanding large-scale structure formation, require more conservative particle resolution than those required by halo mass alone in a simulation. This reduces the parameter space of the simulations, more severely for high-redshift and large-volume mocks which are required by the next-generation large sky surveys. Here, we incorporate redshift and cosmology dependence into an algorithm that assigns accurate halo properties such as concentration, spin, velocity, and spatial distribution to the su…
Tracking the formation and evolution of dark matter haloes is a critical aspect of any analysis of cosmological $N$-body simulations. In particular, the mass assembly of a halo and its progenitors, encapsulated in the form of its merger tree, serves as a fundamental input for constructing semi-analytic models of galaxy formation and, more generally, for building mock catalogues that emulate galaxy surveys. We present an algorithm for constructing halo merger trees from AbacusSummit, the largest suite of cosmological $N$-body simulations performed to date consisting of nearly 60 trillion partic…
We test different implementations of the halo occupation distribution (HOD) model to reconstruct the spatial distribution of galaxies as predicted by a publicly available semi-analytical model (SAM). We compare the measured two-point correlation functions of the HOD mock catalogues and the SAM samples to quantify the fidelity of the reconstruction. We use fixed number density galaxy samples selected according to stellar mass or star formation rate (SFR). We develop three different schemes to populate haloes with galaxies with increasing complexity, considering the scatter of the satellite HOD …
Some observations of galaxies, and in particular dwarf galaxies, indicate a presence of cored density profiles in apparent contradiction with cusp profiles predicted by dark matter N-body simulations. We constructed an analytical model, using particle distribution functions (DFs), to show how a supernova (SN) explosion can transform a cusp density profile in a small-mass dark matter halo into a cored one. Considering the fact that a SN efficiently removes matter from the centre of the first haloes, we study the effect of mass removal through a SN perturbation in the DFs. We found that the tran…
We study the relation between halo mass and its environment from a probabilistic perspective. We find that halo mass depends not only on local dark matter density, but also on non-local quantities such as the cosmic web environment and the halo-exclusion effect. Given these accurate relations, we have developed the HADRON-code (Halo mAss Distribution ReconstructiON), a technique which permits us to assign halo masses to a distribution of haloes in three-dimensional space. This can be applied to the fast production of mock galaxy catalogues, by assigning halo masses, and reproducing accurately …
The galaxy luminosity function and galaxy stellar mass function are fundamental statistics in the testing of galaxy formation models. Theoretical predictions based on cosmological simulations can deviate from observations, especially at the bright and faint ends. In this case, the mismatch may come from missing physics, oversimplified or inaccurate model recipes, or inappropriate methods of extracting basic astrophysical quantities from simulations. The latter is a crucial aspect to consider to avoid misleading conclusions when comparing simulations with observations. In this paper, we have ap…
The recent detection of two faint and extended star clusters in the central regions of two Local Group dwarf galaxies, Eridanus II and Andromeda XXV, raises the question of whether clusters with such low densities can survive the tidal field of cold dark matter haloes with central density cusps. Using both analytic arguments and a suite of collisionless N-body simulations, I show that these clusters are extremely fragile and quickly disrupted in the presence of central cusps $ρ\sim r^{-α}$ with $α\gtrsim 0.2$. Furthermore, the scenario in which the clusters where originally more massive and sa…
We present a method to build mock galaxy catalogues starting from a halo catalogue that uses halo occupation distribution (HOD) recipes as well as the subhalo abundance matching (SHAM) technique. Combining both prescriptions we are able to push the absolute magnitude of the resulting catalogue to fainter luminosities than using just the SHAM technique and can interpret our results in terms of the HOD modelling. We optimize the method by populating with galaxies friends-of-friends dark matter haloes extracted from the Marenostrum Institut de Ciències de l'Espai (MICE) dark matter simulations an…

We use cosmological hydrodynamical galaxy formation simulations from the NIHAO project to investigate the impact of the threshold for star formation on the response of the dark matter (DM) halo to baryonic processes. The fiducial NIHAO threshold, $n=10\, {\rm cm}^{-3}$, results in strong expansion of the DM halo in galaxies with stellar masses in the range $10^{7.5} < M_{star} < 10^{9.5} M_{\odot}$. We find that lower thresholds such as $n=0.1$ (as employed by the EAGLE/APOSTLE and Illustris/AURIGA projects) do not result in significant halo expansion at any mass scale. Halo expansion driven b…
[abridged] We present a detailed comparison of fundamental dark matter halo properties retrieved by a substantial number of different halo finders. These codes span a wide range of techniques including friends-of-friends (FOF), spherical-overdensity (SO) and phase-space based algorithms. We further introduce a robust (and publicly available) suite of test scenarios that allows halo finder developers to compare the performance of their codes against those presented here. This set includes mock haloes containing various levels and distributions of substructure at a range of resolutions as well a…
This is the first of a series of three Papers devoted to the study of halo substructure in hierarchical cosmologies by means of the CUSP formalism. In the present Paper we derive the properties of subhaloes and diffuse dark matter (dDM) accreted onto haloes and their progenitors. Specifically, we relate the dDM present at any time in the inter-halo medium of the real Universe or a cosmological simulation with the corresponding free-streaming mass or the halo resolution mass, respectively, and establish the link between subhaloes and their seeds in the initial density field. By monitoring the c…
Efficient expansions of the gravitational field of (dark) haloes have two main uses in the modelling of galaxies: first, they provide a compact representation of numerically-constructed (or real) cosmological haloes, incorporating the effects of triaxiality, lopsidedness or other distortion. Secondly, they provide the basis functions for self-consistent field expansion algorithms used in the evolution of $N$-body systems. We present a new family of biorthogonal potential-density pairs constructed using the Hankel transform of the Laguerre polynomials. The lowest-order density basis functions a…
A possibility of DM being multicomponent has a strong implication on resolving decades-long known cosmological problems on small scale. In addition to elastic scattering, the model allows for inelastic interactions, which can be characterized by a 'velocity kick' parameter. The simplest 2cDM model with cross section $0.01\lesssimσ/m<1\textrm{ cm}^{2}{ \rm g}^{-1}$ and the kick velocity $V_{k}\simeq 100\textrm{ km s}^{-1}$ has been shown to robustly resolve the missing satellites, core-cusp, and too-big-to-fail problems in $N$-body cosmological simulations tested on MW-like haloes of a virial m…
With help of a set of toy N-body models of dark halo formation we study the impact of small scale initial perturbations on the inner density profiles of haloes. We find a significant flattening of the inner slope $α={d \log ρ\over d \log r}$ to $α=-0.5$ in some range of scales and amplitudes of the perturbations (while in the case of absence of these perturbations the NFW profile with $α=-1$ is reproduced). This effect may be responsible for the formation of cuspless galactic haloes.
Self-Interacting Dark Matter (SIDM) is a collisional form of cold dark matter (CDM), originally proposed to solve problems that arose when the collisionless CDM theory of structure formation was compared with observations of galaxies on small scales. The quantitative impact of the proposed elastic collisions on structure formation has been estimated previously by Monte Carlo N-body simulations and by a conducting fluid model, with apparently diverging results. To improve this situation, we make direct comparisons between new Monte Carlo N-body simulations and solutions of the conducting fluid …
We introduce a new method for the identification of galaxy systems in redshift surveys based on the halo model. This method is a modified version of the K-means identification algorithm developed by Yang et al (2005). We have calibrated and tested our algorithms using mock catalogs generated using the Millennium simulations (Springel et al. 2005) and applied them to the NYU-DR7 galaxy catalog (based on the SDSS datasets). Using this local sample of groups and clusters of galaxies we have measured the effect of gravitational redshift produced by their host dark matter haloes. Our results shows …

In Paper I we used the CUSP formalism to derive from first principles and no single free parameter the accurate abundance and radial distribution of both diffuse DM (dDM) and subhaloes accreted onto haloes and their progenitors at all previous times. Here we use those results as initial conditions for the monitoring of the evolution of subhaloes and dDM within the host haloes. Specifically, neglecting dynamical friction, we accurately calculate the effects of repetitive tidal stripping and heating on subhaloes as they orbit inside the host halo and infer the amount of dDM and subsubhaloes they…
Cusp-core problem is a controversial problem on galactic dark matter haloes. Cosmological N-body simulations has demonstrated that galactic dark matter haloes have a cuspy density profile at the centre. However, baryonic physics may affect the dark matter density profile. For example, it was suggested that adiabatic contraction of baryonic gas makes the dark matter cusp steeper. However, it is still an open question if the gas falls into the galactic centre in smooth adiabatic manner. Recent numerical studies suggested that disc galaxies might experience clumpy phase in their early stage of th…
We perform controlled numerical experiments to asses the effect of baryon mass loss on the inner structure of large galactic dark matter haloes. This mass expulsion is intended to mimic both the supernovae and AGN feedbacks, as well as the evolution of stellar populations. This study is meant in particular for precursors of massive Early Type Galaxies, wherein strong AGN feedback (often dubbed "QSO mode" in galaxy formation models) has been proposed to remove on a short timescale, of the order of a few dynamical times, a substantial fraction of their baryons. In a previous paper we evaluated t…
The free streaming motion of dark matter particles imprints a cutoff in the matter power spectrum and set the scale of the smallest dark matter halo. Recent cosmological $N$-body simulations have shown that the central density cusp is much steeper in haloes near the free streaming scale than in more massive haloes. Here, we study the abundance and structure of subhaloes near the free streaming scale at very high redshift using a suite of unprecedentedly large cosmological $N$-body simulations, over a wide range of the host halo mass. The subhalo abundance is suppressed strongly below the free …
We present evidence for halo assembly bias as a function of geometric environment. By classifying GAMA galaxy groups as residing in voids, sheets, filaments or knots using a tidal tensor method, we find that low-mass haloes that reside in knots are older than haloes of the same mass that reside in voids. This result provides direct support to theories that link strong halo tidal interactions with halo assembly times. The trend with geometric environment is reversed at large halo mass, with haloes in knots being younger than haloes of the same mass in voids. We find a clear signal of halo downs…
Lensing flux-ratio anomalies have been frequently observed and taken as evidence for the presence of abundant dark matter substructures in lensing galaxies, as predicted by the cold dark matter (CDM) model of cosmogony. In previous work, we examined the cusp-caustic relations of the multiple images of background quasars lensed by galaxy-scale dark matter haloes, using a suite of high-resolution N-body simulations (the Aquarius simulations). In this work, we extend our previous calculations to incorporate both the baryonic and diffuse dark components in lensing haloes. We include in each lensin…
Primordial dark matter (DM) haloes are the smallest gravitationally bound DM structures from which the first stars, black holes, and galaxies form and grow in the early universe. However, their structures are sensitive to the free streaming scale of DM, which in turn depends on the nature of DM particles. In this work, we test the hypothesis that the slope of the central cusps in primordial DM haloes near the free streaming scale depends on the nature of merging process. By combining and analysing data from a cosmological simulation with the cutoff in the small-scale matter power spectrum as w…
Cosmological growth can be measured in the redshift space clustering of galaxies targeted by spectroscopic surveys. Accurate prediction of clustering of galaxies will require understanding galaxy physics which is a very hard and highly non-linear problem. Approximate models of redshift space distortion (RSD) take a perturbative approach to solve the evolution of dark matter and galaxies in the universe. In this paper we focus on eBOSS emission line galaxies (ELGs) which live in intermediate mass haloes. We create a series of mock catalogues using haloes from the Multidark and {\sc Outer Rim} d…
We study the evolution of the K-band luminosity function (LF) and the Halo Occupation Distribution (HOD) using Subaru observations of 15 X-ray clusters at z=0.8-1.5 and compare the results with mock clusters (0<z<1.3) extracted from the Millennium Simulation and populated with galaxies using the semi-analytic model (SAM) of Bower et al., matched in mass to our observed sample. We find that the characteristic luminosity K* defined by a Shechter LF is consistent with SAM predictions, which mimic well the evolution of K* in z>1 rich clusters. However, we cannot distinguish between this model and …
We present the latest version of Pinocchio, a code that generates catalogues of DM haloes in an approximate but fast way with respect to an N-body simulation. This code version extends the computation of particle and halo displacements up to 3rd-order Lagrangian Perturbation Theory (LPT), in contrast with previous versions that used Zeldovich approximation (ZA). We run Pinocchio on the same initial configuration of a reference N-body simulation, so that the comparison extends to the object-by-object level. We consider haloes at redshifts 0 and 1, using different LPT orders either for halo cons…
We use the halo occupation distribution (HOD) framework to characterise the predictions from two independent galaxy formation models for the galactic content of dark matter haloes and its evolution with redshift. Our galaxy samples correspond to a range of fixed number densities defined by stellar mass and span $0 \le z \le 3$. We find remarkable similarities between the model predictions. Differences arise at low galaxy number densities which are sensitive to the treatment of heating of the hot halo by active galactic nuclei. The evolution of the form of the HOD can be described in a relative…
We present improved modelling of the redshift-space distortions of galaxy clustering that arise from peculiar velocities. We create mock galaxy catalogues in the framework of the halo model, using data from the Bolshoi project. These mock galaxy populations are inserted into the haloes with additional degrees of freedom that govern spatial and kinematical biases of the galaxy populations relative to the dark matter. We explore this generalised halo model with an MCMC algorithm, comparing the predictions to data from the Galaxy And Mass Assembly (GAMA) survey, and thus derive one of the first c…
We study the cusp/core problem using a secondary infall model (SIM) that takes into account the effect of ordered and random angular momentum, dynamical friction and baryons adiabatic contraction. The model is applied to structures on galactic scales (normal and dwarfs spiral galaxies) and on clusters of galaxies scales. Our analysis suggest that angular momentum and dynamical friction are able, on galactic scales, to overcome the competing effect of adiabatic contraction eliminating the cusp. The slope of density profile of inner haloes flattens with decreasing halo mass and the profile is we…
We perform cosmological zoom-in simulations of $19$ relaxed cluster-mass haloes with the inclusion of adiabatic gas in the cold dark matter (CDM) and self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) models. These clusters are selected as dynamically relaxed clusters from a parent simulation with $M_{\rm 200} \simeq 1\operatorname{-}3\times 10^{15}\,{\rm M}_{\odot}$. Both the dark matter and the intracluster gas distributions in SIDM appear more spherical than their CDM counterparts. Mock X-ray images are generated based on the simulations and are compared to the real X-ray images of $84$ relaxed clusters s…
We use a new mass modelling method, GravSphere, to measure the central dark matter density profile of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy. Draco's star formation shut down long ago, making it a prime candidate for hosting a 'pristine' dark matter cusp, unaffected by stellar feedback during galaxy formation. We first test GravSphere on a suite of tidally stripped mock 'Draco'-like dwarfs. We show that we are able to correctly infer the dark matter density profile of both cusped and cored mocks within our 95% confidence intervals. While we obtain only a weak inference on the logarithmic slope of t…
We present a simple method of generating approximate synthetic halo catalogues: HALOGEN. This method uses a combination of $2^{nd}$-order Lagrangian Perturbation Theory (2LPT) in order to generate the large-scale matter distribution, analytical mass functions to generate halo masses, and a single-parameter stochastic model for halo bias to position haloes. HALOGEN represents a simplification of similar recently published methods. Our method is constrained to recover the 2-point function at intermediate ($10Mpc/h<r<50Mpc/h$) scales, which we show is successful to within 2 per cent. Larger scale…
Our research objective in this paper is to reconstruct an initial linear density field, which follows the multivariate Gaussian distribution with variances given by the linear power spectrum of the current CDM model and evolves through gravitational instability to the present-day density field in the local Universe. For this purpose, we develop a Hamiltonian Markov Chain Monte Carlo method to obtain the linear density field from a posterior probability function that consists of two components: a prior of a Gaussian density field with a given linear spectrum, and a likelihood term that is given…
A defining prediction of the cold dark matter (CDM) cosmological model is the existence of a very large population of low-mass haloes. This population is absent in models in which the dark matter particle is warm (WDM). These alternatives can, in principle, be distinguished observationally because halos along the line-of-sight can perturb galaxy-galaxy strong gravitational lenses. Furthermore, the WDM particle mass could be deduced because the cut-off in their halo mass function depends on the mass of the particle. We systematically explore the detectability of low-mass haloes in WDM models by…
Using realistic cosmological simulations of Milky Way sized haloes, we study their dynamical state and the accuracy of inferring their mass profiles with steady-state models of dynamical tracers. We use a new method that describes the phase-space distribution of a steady-state tracer population in a spherical potential without any assumption regarding the distribution of their orbits. Applying the method to five haloes from the Aquarius $Λ$CDM N-body simulation, we find that dark matter particles are an accurate tracer that enables the halo mass and concentration parameters to be recovered wit…
Dark matter (DM) haloes forming near the thermal cut-off scale of the density perturbations are unique, since they are the smallest objects and form through monolithic gravitational collapse, while larger haloes contrastingly have experienced mergers. While standard cold dark matter (CDM) simulations readily produce haloes that follow the universal Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) density profile with an inner slope, $ρ\propto r^{-α}$, with $α=1$, recent simulations have found that when the free-streaming cut-off expected for the CDM model is resolved, the resulting haloes follow nearly power-law den…
We introduce the IllustrisTNG project, a new suite of cosmological magnetohydrodynamical simulations performed with the moving-mesh code AREPO employing an updated Illustris galaxy formation model. Here we focus on the general properties of magnetic fields and the diffuse radio emission in galaxy clusters. Magnetic fields are prevalent in galaxies, and their build-up is closely linked to structure formation. We find that structure formation amplifies the initial seed fields ($10^{-14}$ comoving Gauss) to the values observed in low-redshift galaxies ($1-10\,μ{\rm G}$). The magnetic field topolo…
We use high-resolution Aquarius simulations of Milky Way-sized haloes in the LCDM cosmology to study the effects of dark matter substructures on gravitational lensing. Each halo is resolved with ~ 10^8 particles (at a mass resolution ~ 10^3-4 M_sun/h) within its virial radius. Subhaloes with masses larger than 10^5 M_sun/h are well resolved, an improvement of at least two orders of magnitude over previous lensing studies. We incorporate a baryonic component modelled as a Hernquist profile and account for the response of the dark matter via adiabatic contraction. We focus on the "anomalous" flu…
We examine correlations between the masses, sizes, and star formation histories for a large sample of low-redshift early-type galaxies, using a simple suite of dynamical and stellar populations models. We confirm an anti-correlation between size and stellar age, and survey for trends with the central content of dark matter (DM). An average relation between central DM density and galaxy size of <rho_DM> ~ Reff^-2 provides the first clear indication of cuspy DM haloes in these galaxies -- akin to standard LCDM haloes that have undergone adiabatic contraction. The DM density scales with galaxy ma…
