The Cauchy problem for second order linear differential equation $u''(t)+Du'(t)+Au(t)=0$ in Hilbert space $H$ with a sectorial operator $A$ and an accretive operator $D$ is studied. Sufficient conditions for exponential decay of the solutions are obtained.
A large time expansion for the propagator associated to a semiclassical non-selfadjoint magnetic Schrödinger operator is established, in terms of the low lying eigenvalues of the operator.
Let $T$ be the generator of a $C_0$-semigroup $e^{-Tt}$ which is of finite trace for all $t>0$ (a Gibbs semigroup). Let $A$ be another closed operator, $T$-bounded with $T$-bound equal to zero. In general $T+A$ might not be the generator of a Gibbs semigroup. In the first half of this paper we give sufficient conditions on $A$ so that $T+A$ is the generator of a Gibbs semigroup. We determine these conditions in terms of the convergence of the Dyson-Phillips expansion corresponding to the perturbed semigroup in suitable Schatten-von Neumann norms. In the second half of the paper we consider $T=…
We obtain estimate of the exponential decay rate of semigroup associated with second order linear differential equation $u"+Du'+Au=0$ in Hilbert space. We assume that $A$ is a selfadjoint positive definite operator, $D$ is an accretive sectorial operator and $\Ree D\geqδA$, $δ>0$. We obtain a location of the spectrum of a pencil associated with linear differential equation.
We investigate selfadjoint $C_0$-semigroups on Euclidean domains satisfying Gaussian upper bounds. Major examples are semigroups generated by second order uniformly elliptic operators with Kato potentials and magnetic fields. We study the long time behaviour of the $L_\infty$ operator norm of the semigroup. As an application we prove a new $L_\infty$-bound for the torsion function of a Euclidean domain that is close to optimal.
Estimates for the total multiplicity of eigenvalues for Schrödinger operator are established in the case of compactly supported or exponentially decreasing complex-valued potential.
We investigate selfadjoint positivity preserving $C_0$-semigroups that are dominated by the free heat semigroup on $\mathbb R^d$. Major examples are semigroups generated by Dirichlet Laplacians on open subsets or by Schrödinger operators with absorption potentials. We show explicit global Gaussian upper bounds for the kernel that correctly reflect the exponential decay of the semigroup. For eigenfunctions of the generator that correspond to eigenvalues below the essential spectrum we prove estimates of their $L_1$-norm in terms of the $L_2$-norm and the eigenvalue counting function. This estim…
In this paper we study direct and inverse problems for discrete and continuous time skew-selfadjoint Dirac systems with rectangular (possibly non-square) pseudo-exponential potentials. For such a system the Weyl function is a strictly proper rational rectangular matrix function and any strictly proper rational matrix function appears in this way. In fact, extending earlier results, given a strictly proper rational matrix function we present an explicit procedure to recover the corresponding potential using techniques from mathematical system and control theory. We also introduce and study a no…
Using an approach based on the techniques of FBI transforms, we give a new simple proof of the global subelliptic estimates for non-selfadjoint non-elliptic quadratic differential operators, under a natural averaging condition on the Weyl symbols of the operators, established by the second author. The loss of the derivatives in the subelliptic estimates depends directly on algebraic properties of the Hamilton maps of the quadratic symbols. Using the FBI point of view, we also give accurate smoothing estimates of Gelfand-Shilov type for the associated heat semigroup in the limit of small times.
This paper is concerned with emptyness of the essential spectrum, or equivalently compactness of the semigroup, for perturbations of selfadjoint operators that are bounded below (on an L^2-space). For perturbations by a (nonnegative) potential we obtain a simple criterion for compactness of the semigroup in terms of relative compactness of the operators of multiplication with characteristic functions of sublevel sets. In the context of Dirichlet forms, we can even characterize compactness of the semigroup for measure perturbations. Here, certain 'averages' of the measure outside of compact set…
Procedures to recover explicitly discrete and continuous skew-selfadjoint Dirac systems on semi-axis from rational Weyl matrix functions are considered. Their stability is shown. Some new facts on asymptotics of pseudo-exponential potentials (i.e., of explicit solutions of inverse problems) are proved as well. GBDT version of Backlund-Darboux transformation, methods from system theory and results on algebraic Riccati equations are used for this purpose.
We stretch the spectral bound equal growth bound condition along with a generalized Lyapunov stability theorem, known to hold for $C_0$-semigroups of normal operators on complex Hilbert spaces, to $C_0$-semigroups of scalar type spectral operators on complex Banach spaces. For such semigroups, we obtain exponential estimates with the best stability constants. We also extend to a Banach space setting a celebrated characterization of uniform exponential stability for $C_0$-semigroups on complex Hilbert spaces and thereby acquire a characterization of uniform exponential stability for scalar type…
We study non-elliptic quadratic differential operators. Quadratic differential operators are non-selfadjoint operators defined in the Weyl quantization by complex-valued quadratic symbols. When the real part of their Weyl symbols is a non-positive quadratic form, we point out the existence of a particular linear subspace in the phase space, intrinsically associated to the Weyl symbols, called a singular space, such that when the singular space has a symplectic structure, the associated heat semigroup is smoothing in every direction of its symplectic orthogonal complement. When the Weyl symbol …
We give a relation between the exponential stability of $ C_{0}- $semigroup $ \textbf{T}=\left\lbrace T(t) \right\rbrace_{t\geq 0} $ and the solutions of Lyapunov inequality \( \left\langle QAx,x\right\langle +\left\langle Qx,Ax\right\langle \leq -||x||^{2}, \) in $ B^{+}(X,X^{*}) $, with $ X $ is a Banach space. The solutions of this inequality characterizes, the boundedness of the resolvent $ R(λ,A) $ inside and outside of the left half-plane $ \Reλ\geq 0 $, and also the left invertibility of the $ C_{0}- $semigroup T.
This work deals with the functional model for a class of extensions of symmetric operators and its applications to the theory of wave scattering. In terms of Boris Pavlov's spectral form of this model, we find explicit formulae for the action of the unitary group of exponentials corresponding to almost solvable extensions of a given closed symmetric operator with equal deficiency indices. On the basis of these formulae, we are able to construct wave operators and derive a new representation for the scattering matrix for pairs of such extensions in both self-adjoint and non-self-adjoint situati…
One-parameter semigroups of antitriangle idempotent supermatrices and corresponding superoperator semigroups are introduced and investigated. It is shown that $t$-linear idempotent superoperators and exponential superoperators are mutually dual in some sense, and the first gives additional to exponential solution to the initial Cauchy problem. The corresponding functional equation and analog of resolvent are found for them. Differential and functional equations for idempotent (super)operators are derived for their general $t$ power-type dependence.
In this article, we study a class of non-selfadjoint Schr{ö}dinger operators H which are perturbation of some model operator H 0 satisfying a weighted coercive assumption. For the model operator H 0 , we prove that the derivatives of the resolvent satisfy some Gevrey estimates at threshold zero. As application, we establish large time expansions of semigroups e --tH and e --itH for t > 0 with subexponential time-decay estimates on the remainder, including possible presence of zero eigenvalue and real resonances.
We study the problem of convergence to equilibrium for evolution equations associated to general quadratic operators. Quadratic operators are non-selfadjoint differential operators with complex-valued quadratic symbols. Under appropriate assumptions, a complete description of the spectrum of such operators is given and the exponential return to equilibrium with sharp estimates on the rate of convergence is proven. Some applications to the study of chains of oscillators and the generalized Langevin equation are given.
We consider a simple modification of the 1D-Laplacian where non-mixed interface conditions occur at the boundaries of a finite interval. It has recently been shown that Schrödinger operators having this form allow a new approach to the transverse quantum transport through resonant heterostructures. In this perspective, it is important to control the deformations effects introduced on the spectrum and on the time propagator by this class of non-selfadjont perturbations. In order to obtain uniform-in-time estimates of the perturbed semigroup, our strategy consists in constructing stationary wave…
A spectral theory of linear operators on rigged Hilbert spaces (Gelfand triplets) is developed under the assumptions that a linear operator $T$ on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ is a perturbation of a selfadjoint operator, and the spectral measure of the selfadjoint operator has an analytic continuation near the real axis in some sense. It is shown that there exists a dense subspace $X$ of $\mathcal{H}$ such that the resolvent $(λ-T)^{-1}ϕ$ of the operator $T$ has an analytic continuation from the lower half plane to the upper half plane as an $X'$-valued holomorphic function for any $ϕ\in X$, …
We study relations between the decaying rates of operator semigroups on Hilbert spaces and some spectral properties of their respective generators; in particular, we show that the decaying rates of orbits of semigroups which are stable but not exponentially stable, typically in Baire's sense, depend on sequences of time going to infinity.
This note briefly presents a new method for enlarging the functional space of a "spectral-gap-like" estimate of exponential decay on a semigroup. A particular case of the method was first devised in hal-00076709 for the spatially homogeneous Boltzmann equation, and a variant was used in Ref. hal-00124876 in the same context for inelastic collisions. We present a generalized abstract version of it, a short proof of the algebraic core of the method, and a new application to the Fokker-Planck equation. More details and other applications shall be found in the work in preparation Ref. [3] (another…
In this paper, we introduce and study non-local Jacobi operators, which generalize the classical (local) Jacobi operators. We show that these operators extend to generators of ergodic Markov semigroups with unique invariant probability measures and study their spectral and convergence properties. In particular, we derive a series expansion of the semigroup in terms of explicitly defined polynomials, which generalize the classical Jacobi orthogonal polynomials. In addition, we give a complete characterization of the spectrum of the non-self-adjoint generator and semigroup. We show that the vari…
