We have studied excitation spectrum of the specfic 2D model of strongly interacting Bose particles via mapping of the many-body Schrodinger equation in imaginary time to the classical stochastic dynamics. In a broad range of coupling strength $α$ a roton-like spectrum is found, with the roton gap being extremely small in natural units. A single quantum phase transition between strongly correlated supefluid and quantum Berezinsky crystal is found.
Using the t-J Hamiltonian of U(1) slave-boson symmetry, bose condensation is discussed by showing the occurrence of symmetry breaking in the hole doped high $T_c$ cuprates. The symmetry breaking is shown to take place with the d-wave hole pairing, but not with the s-wave hole pairing. Based on a derived supersymmetry Hamiltonian we find that there exists a possibility of supersymmetry conditions in association with the pairing order parameters of both spinon and holon.
Gas-liquid condensation (GLC) in an attractive Bose gas is studied on the basis of statistical mechanics. Using some results in combinatorial mathematics, the following are derived: (1) With decreasing temperature, the Bose-statistical coherence grows in the many-body wave function, which gives rise to the divergence of the grand partition function prior to Bose-Einstein condensation. It is a quantum-mechanical analogue to the GLC in a classical gas (quantum GLC). (2) This GLC is triggered by the bosons with zero momentum. Compared with the classical GLC, an incomparably weaker attractive forc…
We discuss a sympathetic cooling strategy that can successfully mitigate fermion-hole heating in a dilute atomic Fermi-Bose mixture and access the temperature regime in which the fermions behave as a Fermi liquid. We introduce an energy-based formalism to describe the temperature dynamics with which we study a specific and promising mixture composed of 6Li and 87Rb. Analyzing the harmonically trapped mixture, we find that the favourable features of this mixture are further enhanced by using different trapping frequencies for the two species.
The normal state of cuprate superconductors exhibits many exotic behaviors qualitatively different from the Fermi liquid, the foundation of condensed matter physics. Here we demonstrate that non-Fermi liquid behaviors emerge naturally from scattering against an emergent Bose liquid. Particularly, we find a finite zero-energy scattering rate at low-temperature limit that grows linearly with respect to temperature, against clean fermions' generic non-dissipative characteristics. Surprisingly, three other seemingly unrelated experimental observations are also produced, including the well-studied …
First, a condition for the Bose-Einstein transition in the superfluid liquid helium is presented due to the creation of a free neutron spinless pairs in a liquid helium and a dilute neutron gas mixture. We proposed a new model of dilute Bose gas, where presence atoms in the condensate is a suppressor for the collective modes as well as a creator for single-particle excitations On other hand, it is shown that the terms, of the interaction between the excitations of the Bose gas and the density modes of the neutron, meditate an attractive interaction via the neutron modes, which in turn leads to…
Using path integral Monte Carlo we simulate a 3D system of up to 1000 magnetic flux lines by mapping it onto a system of interacting bosons in (2+1)D. With increasing temperature we find a first order melting of flux lines from an ordered solid to an entangled liquid signalled by a finite entropy jump and sharp discontinuities in the defect density and the structure factor $S({\bf G})$ at the first reciprocal lattice vector. In the presence of a small number of strong columnar pins, we find that the crystal is transformed into a Bose glass phase with patches of crystalline order nucleated arou…
The gradual fall of the shear viscosity below 2.8K, observed in a liquid helium 4 flowing through a capillary, is examined. The disappearance of the shear viscosity in a capillary flow is a manifestation of superfluidity in dissipative phenomena, the onset mechanism of which is a subtle problem compared to that of superfluidity in non-dissipative phenomena. Applying the linear-response theory to the reciprocal of the shear viscosity coefficient, we relate these two types of superfluidity using the Kramers-Kronig relation. We obtain a formula describing the influence of Bose statistics on the k…
We present neutron scattering measurements of the momentum distribution of liquid ${^3}$He-${^4}$He mixtures. The experiments were performed at wavevectors $Q$, 26 $\leq$ $Q$ $\leq$ 29 {Å$^{-1}$}, on the MARI time-of-flight spectrometer at the ISIS Facility, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, a spallation neutron source. Mixtures with $^3$He concentrations $x$ between 0 and 20% were investigated both in the superfluid and normal phases. From the data, we extract the Bose-Einstein condensate fraction $n_0$ and the momentum distributions of $^3$He and $^4$He atoms. We find that $n_0$ increases some…
In liquid helium 4, many features associated to Bose statistics have been masked by the strongly interacting nature of the liquid. As an example of these features, we examine the shear viscosity of liquid helium 4 above the lambda point. Applying the linear-response theory to Poiseuille's formula for the capillary flow, the reciprocal of the shear viscosity coefficient is considered as a transport coefficient. Using the Kramers-Kronig relation, we relate a superfluid flow in a capillary with that in a rotating bucket, and express the reciprocal of the shear viscosity coefficient in terms of th…
We investigate charged Bose liquid immersed in uniform background charge at zero temperature. Novel phenomena, such as oscillatory shielding of external localized electric charge, rotons and charge density waves (charge stripes in two dimensions), occur in any dimensions. Oscillatory shielding is caused by mixing between scalar boson exchange and Coulomb interactions, which mediate opposite forces. On the other hand, rotons and charge density waves are due to attractive local self-interaction of bosons. Rotons can be regarded as a finite size charge density wave packet without any back flow. W…
Planar large-bipolarons can form if the ratio of the surrounding mediums static to high-frequency dielectric constants is especially large. A large-bipolaron in p-doped La2CuO4 is modeled as two electrons being removed from the out-of-plane orbitals of four oxygen ions circumscribed by four copper ions of a CuO2 layer. These oxygen dianions relax inwardly as they donate electrons to the surrounding outwardly relaxing copper cations. This charge transfer generates the strong in-plane electron-lattice interaction needed to stabilize a large-bipolaron with respect to decomposing into polarons. Th…
The Gross-Pitaevskii-type equation is solved for the charge Bose liquid in the external magnetic field at zero temperature. There is a vortex lattice with locally broken charge neutrality. The boson density is modulated in real space and each vortex is charged. Remarkably, there is no upper critical field at zero temperature, so the density of single flux-quantum vortices monotonously increases with the magnetic field up to B=infinity and no indication of a phase transition. The size of each vortex core decreases as about 1/sqrt(B) keeping the system globally charge neutral. If bosons are comp…
A single vortex in the charged Bose gas (CBG) has a charged core and its profile different from the vortex in neutral and BCS superfluids. Lower and upper critical fields of CBG are discussed. The unusual resistive upper critical field, Hc2(T), of many cuprates and a few other unconventional superconductors is described as the Bose-Einstein condensation field of preformed bosons-bipolarons. Its nonlinear temperature dependence follows from the scaling arguments. Exceeding the Pauli paramagnetic limit is explained. Controversy in the determination of Hc2(T) of cuprates from kinetic and thermody…
A consistent microscopic theory of pseudogap phenomena and novel Bose-liquid superconductivity (superfluidity) is presented, based on the fact that in high-$T_c$ cuprates and related systems the energy $\varepsilon_A$ of the effective attraction between fermions is comparable with their Fermi energy $\varepsilon_F$ and the bosonic Cooper pairs are formed above $T_c$ and then a part of such Cooper pairs condense into a Bose superfluid at $T_c$. High-$T_c$ cuprates and other systems with low Fermi energies ($\varepsilon_F\sim\varepsilon_A$) are bosonic superconductors/superfluids and exhibit pse…
We identify a magnetic field induced transition from a vortex liquid to Bose metal in a 2-dimensional amorphous superconductor, a-MoGe, using a combination of magnetotransport and scanning tunnelling spectroscopy (STS). Below the superconducting transition, Tc ~ 1.36 K, the magnetoresistance isotherms cross at a nearly temperature independent magnetic field, H_c^*~ 36 kOe. Above this field, the temperature coefficient of resistance is weakly negative, but the resistance remains finite as T --> 0, as expected in a bad metal. From STS conductance maps at 450 mK we observe a very disordered vorte…
We investigate two-dimensional Bose system with the long range interactions in the presence of disorder. Formation of the bound states at strong impurity sites gives rise to an additional depletion of the superfluid density. We demonstrate the existence of the intermediate superfluid state where the condensate and localized bosons present simultaneously. We find that interactions suppress localization and that with the increase of the boson density the system experiences a sharp delocalization crossover into a state where all bosons are delocalized. We map our results onto the three dimensiona…
We develop a model approach to describe charge fluctuations and different charge phases in strongly correlated 3d oxides. As a generic model system one considers that of centers each with three possible valence states described in frames of pseudo-spin (isospin) formalism by an effective anisotropic non-Heisenberg Hamiltonian. Simple uniform mean-field phases include an insulating monovalent phase, mixed-valence binary disproportionated phase, and mixed-valence ternary under-disproportionated phase. We consider two first phases in more details focusing on the problem of electron/hole states an…
The criteria for bosonization of Cooper pairs and novel Bose-liquid superconductivity and superfluidity in high-$T_c$ cuprates and other pseudogap matters are formulated by using the uncertainty principle and the boson mean field theory. We argue that the BCS-type s- or d-wave superconductivity occurring in the fermionic limit of Cooper pairs (which exist in ordinary metals and heavily overdoped cuprates with large Fermi energies) is not characteristic of underdoped to overdoped cuprates with low Fermi energies. The superconducting order parameter in high-$T_c$ cuprates and other pseudogap mat…
Patterned irradiation of cuprate superconductors with columnar defects allows a new generation of experiments which can probe the properties of vortex liquids by confining them to controlled geometries. Here we show that an analysis of such experiments that combines an inhomogeneous Bose glass scaling theory with the hydrodynamic description of viscous flow of vortex liquids can be used to infer the critical behavior near the Bose glass transition. The shear viscosity is predicted to diverge as $|T-T_{BG}|^{-z}$ at the Bose glass transition, with $z\simeq 6$ the dynamical critical exponent.
In the context of extended t-J models, with intersite Coulomb interactions of the form $-V\sum\limits_{< {i,j} >} {n_in_j}$, with n_i denoting the electron number operator at site i, nodal liquids are discussed. We use the spin-charge separation ansatz as applied to the nodes of a d-wave superconducting gap.Such a situation may be of relevance to the physics of high-temperature superconductivity. We point out the possibility of existence of certain points in the parameter space of the model characterized by dynamical supersymmetries between the spinon and holon degrees of freedom, which are qu…
The model Hamiltonian of a two-dimensional Bose liquid (proposed earlier by Kane, Kivelson, Lee and Zhang as the Hamiltonian which has Jastrow-type wavefunctions as the ground-state solution), is shown to possess nonrelativistic supersymmetry. For the special value of the coupling constant $α=1/2$ the quantum mechanics described by this Hamiltonian is shown to be equivalent to the dynamics of (complex) eigenvalues of random Gaussian ensemble of normal complex matrices. For general $α$, an exact relation between the equal-time current-current and density-density correlation functions is obtaine…
Nonlinear hydrodynamics is used to evaluate disorder-induced corrections to the vortex liquid tilt modulus for finite screening length and arbitrary disorder geometry. Explicit results for aligned columnar defects yield a criterion for locating the Bose glass transition line at all fields.
We present an extensive numerical study of vortex matter using the mapping to 2D bosons and Path-Integral Monte Carlo simulations. We find a first-order vortex lattice melting transition into an entangled vortex liquid. The jumps in entropy and density are consistent with experimental results on YBCO. The liquid is denser than the lattice and has a correlation length l_z approx 1.7 epsilon a_0 in the direction parallel to the field. In the language of bosons we find a sharp quantum phase transition from a Wigner crystal to a superfluid, even in the case of logarithmic interaction. We also meas…
Using an extensive scaling analysis of the transport properties in twinned YBaCuO(123) crystals we have experimentally found the predicted change in the universality class of the Bose-glass to liquid transition when the magnetic field is applied at small angles away from the direction of the correlated defects. The new dynamical critical exponent is s'=1.1 +/-0.2.
It has been argued in previous works by the authors that nodal excitations in (2+1)-dimensional doped antiferromagnets might exhibit, in the spin-charge separation framework and at specific regions of the parameter space, a supersymmetry between spinons and holons. This supersymmetry has been elevated to a N=2 extended supersymmetry of composite operators of spinon and holons, corresponding to the effective "hadronic" degrees of freedom. In this work we elaborate further on this idea by describing in some detail the dynamics of a specific composite model corresponding to an Abelian Higgs model…
One dimensional free-fermions and hard-core bosons are often considered to be equivalent. Indeed, when restricted to nearest-neighbor hopping on a chain the particles cannot exchange themselves, and therefore hardly experience their own statistics. Apart from the off-diagonal correlations which depends on the so-called Jordan-Wigner string, real-space observables are similar for free-fermions and hard-core bosons on a chain. Interestingly, by coupling only two chains, thus forming a two-leg ladder, particle exchange becomes allowed, and leads to a totally different physics between free-fermion…
