We study the quantum-classical correspondence in terms of coherent wave functions of a charged particle in two-dimensional central-scalar-potentials as well as the gauge field of a magnetic flux in the sense that the probability clouds of wave functions are well localized on classical orbits. For both closed and open classical orbits, the non-integer angular-momentum quantization with the level-space of angular momentum being greater or less than $\hbar$ is determined uniquely by the same rotational symmetry of classical orbits and probability clouds of coherent wave functions, which is not necessarily $2π$-periodic. The gauge potential of a magnetic flux impenetrable to the particle cannot change the quantization rule but is able to shift the spectrum of canonical angular momentum by a flux-dependent value, which results in a common topological phase for all wave functions in the given model. The quantum mechanical model of anyon proposed by Wilczek (Phys. Rev. Lette. 48, 1144) becomes a special case of the arbitrary-quantization.
We provide a full quantization of the vacuum Gowdy model with local rotational symmetry. We consider a redefinition of the constraints where the Hamiltonian Poisson-commutes with itself. We then apply the canonical quantization program of loop quantum gravity within an improved dynamics scheme. We identify the exact solutions of the constraints and the physical observables, and we construct the physical Hilbert space. It is remarkable that quantum spacetimes are free of singularities. New quantum observables naturally arising in the treatment partially codify the discretization of the geometry…
We analyse the effect of the canonical quantization of the rotational mode of the O(3) $σ$-model which includes the Skyrme term. Numerical evidence is presented that the quantum correction to the mass of the rotationally-invariant charge $n=1,2$ configurations may stabilize the solution even in the limit of vanishing potential. The corresponding range of values of the parameters is discussed.
The most common quantization scheme in which to study a conformal field theory is radial quantization, wherein a Hilbert space of states is defined on a sphere, whose Hamiltonian when mapped to the plane is the dilatation generator and which boasts a state/operator correspondence. In this paper, we consider an alternative quantization scheme for 2d CFTs in which the plane is foliated by constant-angle slices, as opposed to concentric circles, whose Hamiltonian is the rotation generator. In this angular quantization, there is no state/operator correspondence but instead an "asymptotics/operator…
In angular quantization approach a perturbation theory for the Massive Thirring Model (MTM) is developed, which allows us to calculate Vacuum Expectation Values of exponential fields in sin-Gordon theory near the free fermion point in first order of MTM coupling constant $g$. The Hankel-transforms play an important role when carrying out this calculations. The expression we have found coincides with that of the direct expansion over $g$ of the exact formula conjectured by S.Lukyanov and A.Zamolodchikov.
Effects due to vacuum fluctuations in a semi-classical model of a massless scalar field interacting with a rotating ring are investigated by introducing a collective coordinate for the motion of the background potential. The model is solved for a repulsive periodic $δ$-distribution background of arbitrary strength. The Casimir energy of this system is calculated in the co-rotating and, by Legendre transformation, in the stationary laboratory frame. The zero-point contribution to the angular momentum in this model is bounded below by $|\ell_{ZP}|\leq\hbar/24$ and the ground state of the entire …
We study the effect of the canonical quantization of the rotational mode of the charge Q=1 and Q=2 spinning Hopfions. The axially-symmetric solutions are constructed numerically, it is shown the quantum corrections to the mass of the configurations are relatively large.
We discuss an application of the method of the angular quantization to reconstruction of form-factors of local fields in massive integrable models. The general formalism is illustrated with examples of the Klein-Gordon, sinh-Gordon and Bullough-Dodd models. For the latter two models the angular quantization approach makes it possible to obtain free field representations for form-factors of exponential operators. We discuss an intriguing relation between the free field representations and deformations of the Virasoro algebra. The deformation associated with the Bullough-Dodd models appears to b…
Quantized space described by time reversal invariant and rotationally invariant noncommutative algebra of canonical type is studied. A particle in uniform field is considered. We find exactly the energy of a particle in uniform field in the quantized space and its wavefunctions. It is shown that the motion of the particle in the field direction in time reversal invariant and rotationally invariant noncommutative space is the same as in the ordinary space (space with the ordinary commutation relations for operators of coordinates and operators of momenta). Noncommutativity of coordinates has in…
The goal of this paper is to analyse the method of angular quantization for the Sine-Gordon model at the free fermion point, which is one of the most investigated models of the two-dimensional integrable field theories. The angular quantization method (see hep-th/9707091) is a continuous analog of the Baxter's corner transfer matrix method. Investigating the canonical quantization of the free massive Dirac fermions in one Rindler wedge we identify this quantization with a representation of the infinite-dimensional algebra introduced in the paper q-alg/9702002 and specialized to the free fermio…
Path integral techniques for the density matrix of a one-dimensional statistical system near a boundary previously employed in black-hole physics are applied to providing a new interpretation of the density matrix renormalization group: its efficacy is due to the concentration of quantum states near the boundary.
We argue that certain materials exhibit asymmetry of their mechanical and conducting properties with respect to clockwise/counterclockwise rotation. We show that a cylinder made of a suitably chosen semiconductor coated in a metallic film and placed in the magnetic-field background can serve as a "rotational diode" which conducts electricity only at a specific range of angular frequencies. The critical angular frequency and the direction of rotation can be tuned with the magnetic field's strength. Mechanically, the rotational diode possesses different moments of inertia when rotated in clockwi…
Using Faddeev-Senjanovic path integral quantization for constrained Hamilton system, we quantize SU(n) N=2 supersymmetric gauge field system with non-abelian Chern-Simons topological term in 2+1 dimensions, and use consistency of a gauge condition naturally to deduce another gauge condition. Further, we get the generating functional of Green function in phase space, deduce the angular momentum based on the global canonical Noether theorem at quantum level, obtain the fractional spin of this supersymmetric system, and show that the total angular momentum has the orbital angular momentum and spi…
We suggest the existence of systems in which the statistics of a particle changes with the quantum level it occupies. The occupation numbers in thermal equilibrium depend on a continuous statistical parameter that interpolates between bosonic or fermionic and ghost-like statistical distributions. We call such particle states ``ninions'': they are different from anyons and can exist in 3+1 dimensions. We suggest that ninions can be associated with coherent angular momentum states. In the Euclidean imaginary-time formalism, the ninionic statistics can be implemented via the rotwisted boundary co…
We study the inequivalent quantizations of the N = 3 Calogero model by separation of variables, in which the model decomposes into the angular and the radial parts. Our inequivalent quantizations respect the ` mirror-S_3\rq\ invariance (which realizes the symmetry under the cyclic permutations of the particles) and the scale invariance in the limit of vanishing harmonic potential. We find a two-parameter family of novel quantizations in the angular part and classify the eigenstates in terms of the irreducible representations of the S_3 group. The scale invariance restricts the quantization in …
The gauge equivalent formulation of the Faddeev-Skyrme model is used for the study of the quantum theory. The rotational quantum excitations around the soliton solution of Hopf number unity are investigated by the method of collective coordinates. The quantum Hamiltonian of the system is found to coincide with the Hamiltonian of a symmetrical top rotating in SU(2). Thus, the irreducible representations of physical observables can be constructed.
In this paper we give a streamlined derivation of the exact quantization condition (EQC) on the quantum periods of the Schrödinger problem in one dimension with a general polynomial potential, based on Wronskian relations. We further generalize the EQC to potentials with a regular singularity, describing spherical symmetric quantum mechanical systems in a given angular momentum sector. We show that the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz (TBA) equations that govern the quantum periods undergo nontrivial monodromies as the angular momentum is analytically continued between integer values in the complex …
Since the lightcone self dual spherical membrane, moving in flat target backgrounds, has a direct correspondence with the $SU(\infty)$ Nahm equations and the continuous Toda theory, we construct the Moyal deformations of the self dual membrane in terms of the Moyal deformations of the continuous Toda theory. This is performed by using the Weyl-Wigner-Moyal quantization technique of the 3D continuous Toda field equation, and its associated 2D continuous Toda molecule, based on Moyal deformations of rotational Killing symmetry reductions of Plebanski first heavenly equation associated with 4D Se…
We consider the evolution of small rotational perturbations, with azimuthal symmetry, of the brane-world cosmological models. The equations describing the temporal, radial, and angular dependence of the perturbations are derived by taking into account the effects of both scalar and tensor parts of the dark energy term on the brane. The time decay of the initial rotation is investigated for several types of equation of state of the ultra-high density cosmological matter. For an expanding Universe, rotation always decays in the case of the perfect dragging, for which the angular velocity of the …
We quantize the 1-dimensional 3-body problem with harmonic and inverse square pair potential by separating the Schrödinger equation following the classic work of Calogero, but allowing all possible self-adjoint boundary conditions for the angular and radial Hamiltonians. The inverse square coupling constant is taken to be $g=2ν(ν-1)$ with ${1/2} <ν< {3/2}$ and then the angular Hamiltonian is shown to admit a 2-parameter family of inequivalent quantizations compatible with the dihedral $D_6$ symmetry of its potential term $9 ν(ν-1)/\sin^2 3ϕ$. These are parametrized by a matrix $U\in U(2)$ sati…
We explore how rotational invariance is systematically recovered from calculations on hyper-cubic lattices through the use of smeared lattice operators that smoothly evolve into continuum operators with definite angular momentum as the lattice-spacing is reduced. Perturbative calculations of the angular momentum violation associated with such operators at tree-level and at one-loop are presented in phi^4 theory and QCD. Contributions from these operators that violate rotational invariance occur at tree-level, with coefficients that are suppressed by O(a^2) in the continuum limit. Quantum loops…
