We give a detailed derivation of a supersymmetric configuration of wrapped D5-branes on a two-cycle of a warped resolved conifold. Our analysis reveals that the resolved conifold should support a non-Kahler metric with an SU(3) structure. We use this as a starting point of the geometric transition in type IIB theory. A mirror, and a subsequent flop transition using an intermediate M-theory configuration with a G_2 structure, gives rise to the complete IR geometric transition in type IIA theory. A further mirror transformation gives the type IIB gravity dual of the IR gauge theory on the wrapped D5-branes. Expectedly non-Kahler deformations of the resolved and the deformed conifolds appear as the gravity duals of the confining gauge theories in type IIA and type IIB theories respectively, although in more generic cases these manifolds could also be non-geometric. In the local limit we reproduce precisely the scenarios presented in our earlier works. Our present work should therefore be viewed as providing a supergravity proof of geometric transitions in the full global scenarios in type II theories.
We review the construction of 4D, N =2 globally supersymmetric off-shell nonlinear sigma models whose target spaces are the cotangent bundles of Kähler manifolds.
The geometric models of N=4 supersymmetric mechanics with $(2d.2d)_{\DC}$-dimensional phase space are proposed, which can be viewed as one-dimensional counterparts of two-dimensional N=2 supersymmetric sigma-models by Alvarez-Gaumé and Freedman. The related construction of supersymmetric mechanics whose phase space is a Kähler supermanifold is considered. Also, its relation with antisymplectic geometry is discussed.
We analyse with the algebraic, regularisation independent, cohomological B.R.S. methods, the renormalisability of torsionless N=2 supersymmetric non-linear sigma models built on Kahler spaces. Surprisingly enough with respect to the common wisdom, we obtain an anomaly candidate, at least in the compact Ricci-flat case. In the compact homogeneous Kahler case, as expected, the anomaly candidate disappears.
We investigate the generalized gauge theory which has been proposed previously and show that in two dimensions the instanton gauge fixing of the generalized topological Yang-Mills action leads to a twisted N=2 supersymmetric action. We have found that the R-symmetry of N=2 supersymmetry can be identified with the flavour symmetry of Dirac-Kahler fermion formulation. Thus the procedure of twist allows topological ghost fields to be interpreted as the Dirac-Kahler matter fermions.
The two-dimensional supersymmetric $\s$-model on a Kähler manifold has a non-vanishing $\b$-function at four loops, but the $\b$-function at five loops can be made to vanish by a specific choice of renormalisation scheme. We investigate whether this phenomenon persists at six loops, and conclude that it does not; there is a non-vanishing six-loop $\b$-function irrespective of renormalisation scheme ambiguities.
The general scalar potential of D-dimensional massive sigma-models with eight supersymmetries is found for $D=3,4$. These sigma models typically admit 1/2 supersymmetric domain wall solutions and we find, for a particular hyper-Kähler target, exact 1/4 supersymmetric static solutions representing a non-trivial intersection of two domain walls. We also show that the intersecting domain walls can carry Noether charge while preserving 1/4 supersymmetry. We briefly discuss an application to the D1-D5 brane system.
We analyse the geometry of four-dimensional bosonic manifolds arising within the context of $N=4, D=1$ supersymmetry. We demonstrate that both cases of general hyper-Kähler manifolds, i.e. those with translation or rotational isometries, may be supersymmetrized in the same way. We start from a generic N=4 supersymmetric three-dimensional action and perform dualization of the coupling constant, initially present in the action. As a result, we end up with explicit component actions for $N=4, D=1$ nonlinear sigma-models with hyper-Kähler geometry (with both types of isometries) in the target spac…
We find a class of non-supersymmetric multi-center solutions of the STU model of five-dimensional ungauged supergravity. The solutions are determined by a system of linear equations defined on a four-dimensional Kähler manifold with vanishing Ricci scalar and a U(1) isometry. The most general class of such Kähler manifolds was studied by LeBrun and they have non-trivial 2-cycles that can support the topological fluxes characteristic of bubbled geometries. After imposing an additional U(1) symmetry on the base we find explicit multi-center supergravity solutions. We show that there is an infini…
Generalized complex geometry is a new mathematical framework that is useful for describing the target space of N=(2,2) nonlinear sigma-models. The most direct relation is obtained at the N=(1,1) level when the sigma model is formulated with an additional auxiliary spinorial field. We revive a formulation in terms of N=(2,2) semi-(anti)chiral multiplets where such auxiliary fields are naturally present. The underlying generalized complex structures are shown to commute (unlike the corresponding ordinary complex structures) and describe a Generalized Kahler geometry. The metric, B-field and gene…
Eleven-dimensional supergravity admits non-supersymmetric solutions of the form AdS(5)xM(6) where M(6) is a positive Kahler-Einstein space. We show that the necessary and sufficient condition for such solutions to be stable against linearized bosonic supergravity perturbations can be expressed as a condition on the spectrum of the Laplacian acting on (1,1)-forms on M(6). For M(6)=CP(3), this condition is satisfied, although there are scalars saturating the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. If M(6) is a product S(2)xM(4) (where M(4) is Kahler-Einstein) then there is an instability if M(4) has a con…
Starting from the $\mathcal{N}=2$ SYM$_{4}$ quiver theory living on wrapped $% N_{i}D5$ branes around $S_{i}^{2}$ spheres of deformed ADE fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds (CY3) and considering deformations using \textit{% massive} vector multiplets, we explicitly build a new class of $\mathcal{N}% =1 $ quiver gauge theories. In these models, the quiver gauge group $% \prod_{i}U(N_{i}) $ is spontaneously broken down to $% \prod_{i}SU(N_{i}) $ and Kahler deformations are shown to be given by the real part of the integral $(2,1) $ form of CY3. We also give the superfield correspondence between the $…
We study the metrics on the families of moduli spaces arising from probing with a brane the ten and eleven dimensional supergravity solutions corresponding to renormalisation group flows of supersymmetric large n gauge theory. In comparing the geometry to the physics of the dual gauge theory, it is important to identify appropriate coordinates, and starting with the case of SU(n) gauge theories flowing from N=4 to N=1 via a mass term, we demonstrate that the metric is Kahler, and solve for the Kahler potential everywhere along the flow. We show that the asymptotic form of the Kahler potential,…
Gravity duals for a class of UV complete minimally supersymmetric non-conformal gauge theories require deformed conifolds with fluxes. However these manifolds do not allow for the standard Kahler or conformally Kahler metrics on them, instead the metrics are fully non-Kahler. We take a generic such configuration of a non-Kahler deformed conifold with fluxes and ask what constraints do supersymmetry impose in the Baryonic branch. We study the supersymmetry conditions and show that for the correct choices of the vielbeins and the complex structure all the equations may be consistently solved. Th…
We give a physical derivation of generalized Kahler geometry. Starting from a supersymmetric nonlinear sigma model, we rederive and explain the results of Gualtieri regarding the equivalence between generalized Kahler geometry and the bi-hermitean geometry of Gates-Hull-Rocek. When cast in the language of supersymmetric sigma models, this relation maps precisely to that between the Lagrangian and the Hamiltonian formalisms. We also discuss topological twist in this context.
This is a review of the relation between supersymmetric non-linear sigma models and target space geometry. In particular, we report on the derivation of generalized Kähler geometry from sigma models with additional spinorial superfields. Some of the results reviewed are: Generalized complex geometry from sigma models in the Lagrangian formulation; Coordinatization of generalized Kähler geometry in terms of chiral, twisted chiral and semi-chiral superfields; Generalized Kähler geometry from sigma models in the Hamiltonian formulation.
The properties of supersymmetric gauge theories in the Higgs phase at low energies can appropriately be studied by means of a non-linear sigma model, which has the target space being Kahler for N=1 supersymmetric models and hyperKahler for N=2 models. By construction of the Kahler and hyperKahler quotients for the gauge theories with SO and USp gauge symmetries, we obtain the explicit metrics on their respective manifolds. Furthermore, we study the lumps in the non-linear sigma models and their effective description, using the Kahler quotients.
We investigate the geometry of the moduli spaces of dual electric and magnetic N=1 supersymmetric field theories. Using the SU(N_c) gauge group as a guideline we show that the electric and magnetic moduli spaces coincide for a suitable choice of the Kahler potential of the magnetic theory. We analyse the Kahler structure of the dual moduli spaces.
We study generalized Kahler structures on N = (2, 2) supersymmetric Wess-Zumino-Witten models; we use the well known case of SU(2) x U(1) as a toy model and develop tools that allow us to construct the superspace action and uncover the highly nontrivial structure of the hitherto unexplored case of SU(3); these tools should be useful for studying many other examples. We find that different generalized Kahler structures on N = (2, 2) supersymmetric Wess-Zumino-Witten models can be found by T-duality transformations along affine isometries.
In the appropriate limit, a type IIB string theory setup involving D3 branes, wrapped D5 branes, and fluxes on a conifold generally leads to a supergravity background involving a warped version of the conifold with fluxes. We study the supergravity dual of the baryonic branch of the Klebanov Strassler theory by writing down a very general conifold metric--the non-Kähler resolved warped-deformed conifold--and a general set of fluxes that satisfy the supergravity equations of motion, and derive the necessary constraints that allow the geometry to be dual to an $\mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric gaug…
We present the proof of the HRR theorem for a generic complex compact manifold by evaluating the functional integral for the Witten index of the appropriate supersymmetric quantum mechanical system.
We present a supersymmetric non-linear $\s$-model built up in the $N=1$ superspace of Atiyah-Ward space-time. A manifold of the Kähler type comes out that is restricted by a particular decomposition of the Kähler potential. The gauging of the $\s$-model isometries is also accomplished in superspace.
In the framework of special Kahler geometry we consider the supergravity-matter system which emerges on a K3-fibered Calabi-Yau manifold. By applying the rigid limit procedure in the vicinity of a conifold singularity we compute the Kahler potential of the scalars and the kinetic matrix of the vectors to first order in the gravitational coupling.
We derive the supersymmetric low-energy effective theory of the D-flat directions of a supersymmetric gauge theory. The Kahler potential of Affleck, Dine and Seiberg is derived by applying holomorphic constraints which manifestly maintain supersymmetry. We also present a simple procedure for calculating all derivatives of the Kahler potential at points on the flat direction manifold. Together with knowledge of the superpotential, these are sufficient for a complete determination of the spectrum and the interactions of the light degrees of freedom. We illustrate the method on the example of a c…
We derive the Wilsonian renormalization group equation in two dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models. This equation shows that the sigma models on compact Einstein Kähler manifolds are aymptotically free. This result is gerenal and does not depend on the specific forms of the Kähler potentials. We also examine the renormalization group flow in a new model which connects two manifolds with different global symmetries.
The Riemann normal coordinate expansion method is generalized to a Kahler manifold. The Kahler potential and holomorphic coordinate transformations are used to define a normal coordinate preserving the complex structure. The existence of this Kahler normal coordinate is shown explicitly to all orders. The formalism is applied to background field methods in supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models.
Auxiliary field methods in D=2 (or 3), N=2 supersymmetric (SUSY) nonlinear sigma models (NLSMs) are studied. For these models auxiliary fields as Lagrange multipliers belong to a vector or a chiral superfield, which gives a Kahler quotient of complexified gauge group or a holomorphic constraint on it, respectively. Using these, NLSMs on all Hermitian symmetric spaces were formulated previously. In this paper, we formulate new SUSY NLSMs on some rank-two Kahler coset spaces as SUSY gauge theories with two Fayet-Iliopoulos parameters.
Supersymmetric black holes in AdS spacetime are inherently interesting for the AdS/CFT correspondence. Within a four dimensional gauged supergravity theory coupled to vector multiplets, the only analytic solutions for regular, supersymmetric, static black holes in AdS4 are those in the STU-model due to Cacciatori and Klemm. We study a class of U(1)-gauged supergravity theories coupled to vector multiplets which have a cubic prepotential, the scalar manifold is then a very special Kahler manifold. When the resulting very special Kahler manifold is a homogeneous space, we find analytic solutions…
In this work a thorough study of a number of specific supersymmetric sigma-models with extended supersymmetry is performed within the context of generalised complex geometry. More specifically the supersymmetric Wess-Zumino-Witten model on a variety of group manifolds was considered. By explicitly calculating the admissible complex structures and the associated pure spinors on the target manifold a full characterisation of the different possible geometries is provided. By using this approach the various aspects of generalised Kähler geometry can be studied in detail. Also considered are the va…
Mass perturbations of the twisted N=4 supersymmetric gauge theory considered by Vafa and Witten to test S-duality are studied for the case of Kahler four-manifolds. It is shown that the resulting mass-perturbed theory can be regarded as an equivariant extension associated to a U(1) symmetry of the twisted theory, which is only present for Kahler manifolds. In addition, it is shown that the partition function, the only topological invariant of the theory, remains invariant under the perturbation.
We construct a class of toric Kahler manifolds, M_4, of real dimension four, a subset of which corresponds to the Kahler bases of all known 5D asymptotically AdS_5 supersymmetric black-holes. In a certain limit, these Kahler spaces take the form of cones over Sasaki spaces, which, in turn, are fibrations over toric manifolds of real dimension two. The metric on M_4 is completely determined by a single function H(x), which is the conformal factor of the two dimensional space. We study the solutions of minimal five dimensional gauged supergravity having this class of Kahler spaces as base and sh…
We study in detail the stability properties of the simplest F-term uplifting mechanism consistent with the integration of heavy moduli. This way of uplifting vacua guarantees that the interaction of the uplifting sector with the moduli sector is consistent with integrating out the heavy fields in a supersymmetric way. The interactions between light and heavy fields are characterized in terms of the Kahler invariant function, G = K + log |W|^2, which is required to be separable in the two sectors. We generalize earlier results that when the heavy fields are stabilized at a minimum of the Kahler…
Using techniques of supersymmetric gauge theories, we present the Ricci-flat metrics on non-compact Kahler manifolds whose conical singularity is repaired by the Hermitian symmetric space. These manifolds can be identified as the complex line bundles over the Hermitian symmetric spaces. Each of the metrics contains a resolution parameter which controls the size of these base manifolds, and the conical singularity appears when the parameter vanishes.
Based on the systematic Hamiltonian and superfield approaches we construct the deformed $\mathcal{N}=4,8$ supersymmetric mechanics on Kähler manifolds interacting with constant magnetic field, and study their symmetries. At first we construct the deformed $\mathcal{N}=4,8$ supersymmetric Landau problem via minimal coupling of standard (undeformed) $\mathcal{N}=4,8$ supersymmetric free particle systems on Kähler manifold with constant magnetic field. We show that the initial "flat" supersymmetries are necessarily deformed to $SU(2|1)$ and $SU(4|1)$ supersymmetries, with the magnetic field playi…
We consider $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric pure gauge theories on toric Kähler manifolds, with particular emphasis on $\mathbb{CP}^2$. By choosing a vector generating a $U(1)$ action inside the torus of the manifold, we construct equivariantly twisted theories. Then, using localization, we compute their supersymmetric partition functions. As expected, these receive contributions from a classical, a one-loop, and an instanton term. It turns out that the one-loop term is trivial and that the instanton contributions are localized at the fixed points of the $U(1)$. In fact the full partition funct…
The moduli of N=1 compactifications of IIB string theory can be stabilized by a combination of fluxes (which freeze complex structure moduli and the dilaton) and nonperturbative superpotentials (which freeze Kahler moduli), typically leading to supersymmetric AdS vacua. We show that stringy corrections to the Kahler potential qualitatively alter the structure of the effective scalar potential even at large volume, and can give rise to non-supersymmetric vacua including metastable de Sitter spacetimes. Our results suggest an approach to solving the cosmological constant problem, so that the sca…
It is known that supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models for the compact Kahler manifolds G/H cannot be consistently coupled to supergravity, since the Kahler potentials are not invariant under the G transformation. We show that the supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models can be deformed such that the Kahler potential be exactly G-invariant if and only if one enlarges the manifolds by dropping all the U(1)'s in the unbroken subgroup H. Then, those nonlinear sigma models can be coupled to supergravity without losing the G invariance.
We propose an alternative for the Clebsch decomposition of currents in fluid mechanics, in terms of complex potentials taking values in a Kahler manifold. We reformulate classical relativistic fluid mechanics in terms of these complex potentials and rederive the existence of an infinite set of conserved currents. We perform a canonical analysis to find the explicit form of the algebra of conserved charges. The Kahler-space formulation of the theory has a natural supersymmetric extension in 4-D space-time. It contains a conserved current, but also a number of additional fields complicating the …
We review non-linear sigma-models with (2,1) and (2,2) supersymmetry. We focus on off-shell closure of the supersymmetry algebra and give a complete list of (2,2) superfields. We provide evidence to support the conjecture that all N=(2,2) non-linear sigma-models can be described by these fields. This in its turn leads to interesting consequences about the geometry of the target manifolds. One immediate corollary of this conjecture is the existence of a potential for hyper-Kahler manifolds, different from the Kahler potential, which does not only allow for the computation of the metric, but of …
We analyse with the algebraic, regularisation independant, cohomological B.R.S. methods, the renormalisability of torsionless N=2 and N= 4 supersymmetric non-linear $\si$ models built on Kähler spaces. Surprisingly enough with respect to the common wisdom, in the case of N=2 supersymmetry, we obtain an anomaly candidate, at least in the compact Kähler Ricci-flat case. If its coefficient does differ from zero, such anomaly would imply the breaking of global N=2 supersymmetry and get into trouble some schemes of superstring compactification as such non-linear $\si$ models offer candidates for th…
We simplify the classification of supersymmetric solutions with compact holonomy of the Killing spinor equations of heterotic supergravity using the field equations and the additional assumption that the 3-form flux is closed. We determine all the fractions of supersymmetry that the solutions preserve and find that there is a restriction on the number of supersymmetries which depends on the isometry group of the background. We examine the geometry of spacetime in all cases. We find that the supersymmetric solutions of heterotic supergravity are associated with a large number of geometric struc…
In supersymmetric theories, the signs of quartic terms in the Kähler potential control the stability of non-supersymmetric field configurations. In particular, in supersymmetric inflation models, the signs are important for the stability of an inflationary trajectory as well as for the prediction of the spectral index. In this paper, we clarify what properties of a UV theory determine the sign from unitarity arguments of scattering amplitudes. As non-trivial examples, we discuss the sign of a four-meson term in large $N$ supersymmetric gauge theories and also those of the quartic terms obtaine…
We further develop on the study of the conditions for the existence of locally stable non-supersymmetric vacua with vanishing cosmological constant in supergravity models involving only chiral superfields. Starting from the two necessary conditions for flatness and stability derived in a previous paper (which involve the Kahler metric and its Riemann tensor contracted with the supersymmetry breaking auxiliary fields) we show that the implications of these constraints can be worked out exactly not only for factorizable scalar manifolds, but also for symmetric coset manifolds. In both cases, the…
Perturbative N=2 non-renormalization theorem states that there is no perturbative correction to the Kahler potential \int d^4θK(Φ,\barΦ). We prove this statement by using the N=1 supergraph techniques. We consider the N=2 supersymmetric U(1) gauge theory which possesses general prepotential F(Ψ).
An important ingredient in the construction of phenomenologically viable superstring models is the uplifting of Anti-de Sitter supersymmetric critical points in the moduli sector to metastable Minkowski or de Sitter vacua with broken supersymmetry. In all cases described so far, uplifting results in a displacement of the potential minimum away from the critical point and, if the uplifting is large, can lead to the disappearance of the minimum altogether. We propose a variant of F-term uplifting which exactly preserves supersymmetric critical points and shift symmetries at tree level. In spite …
We consider a general d=4 N=1 globally supersymmetric lagrangian involving chiral and vector superfields, with arbitrary superpotential, Kahler potential and gauge kinetic function. We compute perturbative quantum corrections by employing a component field approach that respects supersymmetry and background gauge invariance. In particular, we obtain the full one-loop correction to the Kahler potential in supersymmetric Landau gauge. Two derivations of this result are described. The non-renormalization of the superpotential and the quadratic correction to the Fayet-Iliopoulos terms are further …
We summarize an explicit construction of a duality cycle for geometric transitions in type II and heterotic theories. We emphasize that the manifolds with torsion constructed with this duality cycle are crucial for understanding different phenomena appearing in effective field theories.
One has believed that low energy effective theories of the Higgs branch of gauged linear sigma models correspond to supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models, which have been already investigated by many works. In this paper we discuss a explicit derivation of supersymmetric nonlinear sigma models from gauged linear sigma models. In this process we construct Kahler potentials of some two-dimensional toric varieties explicitly. Thus we will be able to study some algebraic varieties in the language of differential geometry.
We construct actions for (p,0)- and (p,1)- supersymmetric, 1 <= p <= 4, two-dimensional gauge theories coupled to non-linear sigma model matter with a Wess-Zumino term. We derive the scalar potential for a large class of these models. We then show that the Euclidean actions of the (2,0) and (4,0)-supersymmetric models without Wess-Zumino terms are bounded by topological charges which involve the equivariant extensions of the Kahler forms of the sigma model target spaces evaluated on the two-dimensional spacetime. We give similar bounds for Euclidean actions of appropriate gauge theories couple…
We construct a duality cycle which provides a complete supergravity description of geometric transitions in type II theories via a flop in M-theory. This cycle connects the different supergravity descriptions before and after the geometric transitions. Our construction reproduces many of the known phenomena studied earlier in the literature and allows us to describe some new and interesting aspects in a simple and elegant fashion. A precise supergravity description of new torsional manifolds that appear on the type IIA side with branes and fluxes and the corresponding geometric transition are …
Supersymmetric CPN models based on underlying bosonic Kahler manifolds have not been thought to arise directly from constrained linear ones. A counterexample for N=4 is presented using improved understanding of membranes in superstring theories leading to crucial central terms modifying the algebra of supercharge densities. The example has an immediate extension to all higher N.
We analyze several aspects of R-symmetry and supersymmetry breaking in generalized O'Raifeartaigh models with non-canonical Kahler potential. Some conditions on the Kahler potential are derived in order for the non-supersymmetric vacua to be degenerate. We calculate the Coleman-Weinberg (CW) effective potential for general quiral non-linear sigma models and then study the 1-loop quantum corrections to the pseudo-moduli space. For R-symmetric models, the quadratic dependence of the CW potential with the ultraviolet cutoff scale disappears. We also show that the conditions for R-symmetry breakin…
Four stacks of intersecting supersymmetric fractional D6-branes on the Z_6' orientifold have previously been used to construct consistent models having the spectrum of the supersymmetric Standard Model, including a single pair of Higgs doublets, plus three right-chiral neutrino singlets. However, various moduli, Kahler moduli and complex-structure moduli, twisted and untwisted, remain unfixed. Further, some of the Yukawa couplings needed to generated quark and lepton masses are forbidden by a residual global symmetry of the model. In this paper we study the stabilisation of moduli using backgr…
New heterotic torsional geometries are constructed as orbifolds of T^2 bundles over K3. The discrete symmetries considered can be freely-acting or have fixed points and/or fixed curves. We give explicit constructions when the base K3 is Kummer or algebraic. The orbifold geometries can preserve N=1,2 supersymmetry in four dimensions or be non-supersymmetric.
We consider some aspects of the curved BPS domain walls and their supersymmetric Lorentz invariant vacua of the four dimensional N=1 supergravity coupled to a chiral multiplet. In particular, the scalar manifold can be viewed as a two dimensional Kähler-Ricci soliton generating a one-parameter family of Kähler manifolds evolved with respect to a real parameter, $τ$. This implies that all quantities describing the walls and their vacua indeed evolve with respect to $τ$. Then, the analysis on the eigenvalues of the first order expansion of BPS equations shows that in general the vacua related to…
We evaluate string one-loop contributions to the Einstein-Hilbert term in toroidal minimally supersymmetric type IIB orientifolds with D-branes. These have potential applications to the determination of quantum corrections to the moduli Kahler metric in these models.
We first present a short review of general supersymmetric compactifications in string and M-theory using the language of G-structures and intrinsic torsion. We then summarize recent work on the generic conditions for supersymmetric AdS_5 backgrounds in M-theory and the construction of classes of new solutions. Turning to AdS_5 compactifications in type IIB, we summarize the construction of an infinite class of new Sasaki-Einstein manifolds in dimension 2k+3 given a positive curvature Kahler-Einstein base manifold in dimension 2k. For k=1 these describe new supergravity duals for N=1 superconfo…
In this paper, we study the RG flow in the non-linear sigma models obtained from a 2d N=(0,2) supersymmetric QCD. The sigma model is parameterized by a single Kahler modulus. We determine its exact non-perturbative beta function using holomorphy, triality and the knowledge of the infra-red fixed point.
In global supersymmetric Wess-Zumino models with minimal Kähler potentials, F-type supersymmetry breaking always yields instability or continuous degeneracy of non-supersymmetric vacua. As a generalization of the original O'Raifeartaigh's result, the existence of instability or degeneracy is true to any higher order corrections at tree level for models even with non-renormalizable superpotentials. The degeneracy generically coincides the R-axion direction under some assumptions of R-charge assignment, but generally requires neither R-symmetries nor any assumption of generic superpotentials. Th…
