We revisit the F-term hybrid inflation model in supergravity. In particular, we point out that a constant term in the superpotential has significant effects on the inflaton dynamics. It is shown that the hybrid inflation model suffers from several potential problems: tuning of the initial condition, gravitino overproduction and formation of cosmic strings, for both minimal and non-minimal Kahler potentials. These problems can only be avoided in gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models where the gravitino is relatively light and the constant term in the superpotential is not important. Implications on the non-thermal leptogenesis scenario are also described.
We discuss the effects of the gravitino on the big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), paying particular attention to the hadronic decay mode of the gravitino. We will see that the hadronic decay of the gravitino significantly affect the BBN and, for the case where the hadronic branching ratio is sizable, very stringent upper bound on the reheating temperature after inflation is obtained.
Present data require a spectral index $n\gsim 0.95$ at something like 1-$σ$ level. If this lower bound survives it will constrain `new' and `modular' inflation models, while raising it to 1.00 would rule out all of these models plus many others. After inflation, gravitinos are created by the oscillating field until the `intermediate' epoch when the Hubble parameter falls below the gravitino mass, or reheating, whichever is earlier. In a wide range of parameter space, these gravitinos are more abundant than those from thermal collisions, leading to stronger cosmological constraints.
It was recently found that the decay of inflaton and the SUSY breaking field produces many gravitinos in the gravity mediation scenario. These discoveries led to an exclusion of many inflation models such as chaotic, (smooth) hybrid, topological and new inflation models. Under these circumstances we searched for a successful inflation model and found that the ``inverted'' hybrid inflation models can solve the gravitino overproduction problem by their distinctive shape of the potential. Furthermore, we found that this inflation model simultaneously can explain the observed baryon asymmetry thro…
We discuss sneutrino inflation in the brane-world scenario. We work in the Randall-Sundrum type II brane-world, generalized with the introduction of the Gauss-Bonnet term, a correction to the effective action in string theories. We find that a viable inflationary model is obtained with a reheating temperature appropriate to lead to the right baryon asymmetry and render the gravitino safe for cosmology. In specific realizations we satisfy all the observational constaints without the unnaturally small Yukawa couplings required in other related approaches.
By using a string-inspired modular invariant supergravity, which was proved well to explain WMAP observations appropriately, a mechanism of supersymmetry breaking (SSB) and Gravitino Production just after the end of inflation are investigated. Supersymmetry is broken mainly by F-term of the inflaton superfield and the Goldstino is identified to be inflatino in this model, which fact is shown numerically. By using the canonically normalized and diagonalized scalars, the decay rates of these fields are calculated, for both the $T$ and $Y$ into gravitinos. Non-thermal production of gravitinos is …
We consider inflation and supersymmetry breaking in the context of a minimal model of supersymmetry in which the only "low" energy remnant of supersymmetry is the gravitino with a mass of order an EeV. In this theory, the supersymmetry breaking scale is above the inflaton mass, m ~ 3 x 10^{13} GeV, as are all sfermion and gaugino masses. In particular, for a no-scale formulation of Starobinsky-like inflation using the volume modulus T, we show that inflation can be accommodated even when the supersymmetry breaking scale is very large. Reheating is driven through a gravitational coupling to the…
Gravitino problem is discussed in detail. We derive an upperbound on the reheating temperature from the constraints of the big-bang nucleosynthesis and the present mass density of the universe. Compared to previous works, we have improve the following three points; (i) the gravitino production cross sections are calculated by taking all the relevant terms in the supergravity lagrangian into account, (ii) high energy photon spectrum is obtained by solving the Boltzmann equations numerically, and (iii) the evolutions of the light elements (D, T, $^3$He, $^4$He) at the temperature lower than $\si…
Gravitino production and decay in the inflationary universe are reexamined. Assuming that the gravitino mainly decays into a photon and a photino, we calculate the upperbound on the reheating temperature. Compared to previous works, we have essentially improved the following two points: (i) the helicity $\pm\frac{3}{2}$ gravitino production cross sections are calculated by using the full relevant terms in the supergravity lagrangian, and (ii) the high energy photon spectrum is obtained by solving the Boltzmann equations numerically. Photo-dissociation of the light elements (D, T, $^3$He, $^4$H…
We present a thermal inflation model that incorporates the Affleck-Dine leptogenesis in heavy gravitino/moduli scenario, which solves the moduli-induced gravitino problem while producing a correct amount of baryon asymmetry and relic dark matter density. The model involves two singlet flat directions stabilized by radiative corrections associated with supersymmetry breaking, one direction that generates the Higgs μand B parameters, and the other direction that generates the scale of spontaneous lepton number violation. The dark matter is provided by the lightest flatino which might be identifi…
By using a No-Scale Supergravity model, which was proved to explain WMAP observations appropriately, a mechanism of supersymmetry breaking and a preheating just after the end of inflation are investigated. Non-thermal production rate of gravitino is estimated as well as supersymmetry breaking mechanism numerically. The supersymmetry breaking is triggered by the inflaton superfield alone and the interchange of supersymmetry breaking fields does not occur in our model. By the instant preheating mechanism, the preheating temperature is calculated through the process where the inflaton decays into…
A new modified string-inspired modular invariant supergravity model is proposed and is applied to realize the slow roll inflation in Einstein frame, so that the model explains WMAP observations very well. Gravitino mass and their production rate from scalar fields are estimated at certain values of parameters in the model. Seven cases of parameter choices are discussed here, among which some examples show the possibility of observation of gauginos by LHC experiments, which will give some hints of identity of dark matters. The reheating temperature, which is estimated by the stability condition…
It is known that supersymmetric hybrid inflation model may require severe tunings on the initial condition for large gravitino mass of order 100 - 1000 TeV due to the constant term in the superpotential. We propose a modified hybrid inflation model, where the constant term is suppressed during inflation and generated after inflation by replacing a constant term with dynamical field. In this modified model, successful inflation consistent with large gravitino mass takes place without severe tunings on the initial condition. Constraint from cosmic strings is also relaxed.
Gravitinos are generically produced by inflaton decays, which place tight constraints on inflation models as well as supersymmetry breaking scale. We revisit the gravitino production from decays of the inflaton and the supersymmetry breaking field, based on a chaotic inflation model suggested by the recent BICEP2 result. We study cosmological constraints on thermally and non-thermally produced gravitinos for a wide range of the gravitino mass, and show that there are only three allowed regions of the gravitino mass: $m_{3/2}\lesssim 16$eV, $m_{3/2}\simeq 10$--$1000$TeV and $m_{3/2}\gtrsim 10^{…
We show that the gravitino-overproduction problem is prevalent among inflation models in supergravity. An inflaton field generically acquires (effective) non-vanishing auxiliary field, if the Kahler potential is non-minimal. The inflaton field then decays into a pair of the gravitinos, thereby severely constraining many of the inflation models especially in the case of the gravity-mediated SUSY breaking.
We investigate non-thermal gravitino production after tribrid inflation in supergravity, which is a variant of supersymmetric hybrid inflation where three fields are involved in the inflationary model and where the inflaton field resides in the matter sector of the theory. In contrast to conventional supersymmetric hybrid inflation, where non-thermal gravitino production imposes severe constraints on the inflationary model, we find that the "non-thermal gravitino problem" is generically absent in models of tribrid inflation, mainly due to two effects: (i) With the inflaton in tribrid inflation…
The low reheat temperature at the end of inflation from the gravitino bound constrains the creation of heavy Majorana neutrinos associated with models of leptogenesis. However, a detailed view of the reheating of the Universe at the end of inflation implies that the maximum temperature during reheating, $\Tmax$, can be orders of magnitude higher than the final reheat temperature. This then allows for the production of the heavy Majorana neutrinos needed for leptogenesis. We carry out the complementary calculation of the gravitino production during reheating and its dependence on $\Tmax$. We fi…
We revisit the nonthermal gravitino production at the (p)reheating stage after inflation. Particular attention is paid to large field inflation models with a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry, for which the previous perturbative analysis is inapplicable; and inflation models with a stabilizer superfield, which have not been studied non-perturbatively. It is found that in single-superfield inflation models (without the stabilizer field), nonthermal production of the transverse gravitino can be cosmologically problematic while the abundance of the longitudinal gravitino is small enough. In multi-superfiel…
We study non-thermal gravitino production in the minimal supergravity inflation. In this minimal model utilizing orthogonal nilpotent superfields, the particle spectrum includes only graviton, gravitino, inflaton, and goldstino. We find that a substantial fraction of the cosmic energy density can be transferred to the longitudinal gravitino due to non-trivial change of its sound speed. This implies either a breakdown of the effective theory during reheating or a serious gravitino problem.
We consider the constraints that can be imposed on a wide class of Inflation models in modified gravity scenarios in which the Friedmann equation is modified by the inclusion of $ρ^2$ terms, where $ρ$ is the total energy density. In particular we obtain the reheating temperature and gravitino abundance associated with the end of inflation. Whereas models of chaotic inflation and natural inflation can easily avoid the conventional gravitino overproduction problem, we show that supersymmetric hybrid inflation models (driven by both F and D-terms) do not work in the $ρ^2$ dominated era. We also s…
In supersymmetric models of warm inflation, the large temperature of the radiation bath produced by the dissipative motion of the inflaton field may induce a significant thermal abundance of potentially dangerous gravitinos. While previous discussions of this problem focused on gravitino production only at the end of warm inflation, similarly to conventional reheating scenarios, we study the full evolution of the gravitino abundance during and after inflation for simple monomial potentials, taking into account the enhanced gravitino and possibly gaugino masses due to supersymmetry breaking dur…
We present an inflationary scenario based on a phenomenologically viable model with direct gauge mediation of low-scale supersymmetry breaking. Inflation can occur in the supersymmetry-breaking hidden sector. Although the reheating temperature from the inflaton decay is so high that the gravitino problem seems to be severe, late time entropy production from the decay of the pseudomoduli field associated with the supersymmetry breaking can dilute gravitinos sufficiently. We show that gravitinos are also produced from the pseudomoduli decay and there is a model parameter space where gravitinos c…
We show that a mini-thermal inflation occurs naturally in a class of gauge mediation models of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking, provided that the reheating temperature T_R of the primary inflation is much higher than the SUSY-breaking scale, say T_R > 10^{10} GeV. The reheating process of the thermal inflation produces an amount of entropy, which dilutes the number density of relic gravitinos. This dilution renders the gravitino to be the dark matter in the present universe. The abundance of the gravitinos is independent of the reheating temperature T_R, once the gravtinos are thermally produced…
We present a realistic supergravity inflation model which is free from the overproduction of potentially dangerous relics in cosmology, namely moduli and gravitinos which can lead to the inconsistencies with the predictions of baryon asymmetry and nucleosynthesis. The radiative correction turns out to play a crucial role in our analysis which raises the mass of supersymmetry breaking field to intermediate scale. We pay a particular attention to the non-thermal production of gravitinos using the non-minimal Kahler potential we obtained from loop correction. This non-thermal gravitino production…
We propose a novel reformulation of supersymmetric (more precisely $μ$-) hybrid inflation based on a local U(1) or any suitable extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) which also resolves the $μ$ problem. We employ a suitable Kahler potential which effectively yields quartic inflation with non-minimal coupling to gravity. Imposing the gravitino Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) constraint on the reheat temperature ($T_r \lesssim 10^6$ GeV) and requiring a neutralino LSP, the tensor to scalar ratio ($r$) has a lower bound $r \gtrsim 0.004$. The U(1) symmetry breaking scale li…
We show that the gravitino-overproduction problem is prevalent among inflation models in supergravity. An inflaton field ϕgenerically acquires (effective) non-vanishing auxiliary field G_ϕ, if the Kähler potential is non-minimal. The inflaton field then decays into a pair of the gravitinos. We extensively study the cosmological constraints on G_ϕfor a wide range of the gravitino mass. For many inflation models we explicitly estimate G_ϕ, and show that the gravitino-overproduction problem severely constrains the inflation models, unless such an interaction as K = κ/2 |ϕ|^2 z^2 + h.c. is suppres…
We investigate supersymmetric hybrid inflation in a realistic model based on the gauge symmetry $SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$. The minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) $μ$ term arises, following Dvali, Lazarides, and Shafi, from the coupling of the MSSM electroweak doublets to a gauge singlet superfield which plays an essential role in inflation. The primordial monopoles are inflated away by arranging that the $SU(4)_c \times SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ symmetry is broken along the inflationary trajectory. The interplay between the (above) $μ$ coupling, the gravitino mass, and th…
We consider the abundance of gravitinos created from the vacuum fluctuation, in a class of `new' inflation models for which global supersymmetry is a good approximation. Immediately after inflation, gravitinos are produced, with number density determined by equations recently presented by Kallosh et. al. (hep-th/9907124) and Giudice et. al. (hep-ph/9907510). Unless reheating intervenes, creation may continue, maintaining about the same number density, until the Hubble parameter falls below the gravitino mass. In any case, the abundance of gravitinos created from the vacuum fluctuation exceeds …
We utilize a recently proposed cubic nilpotent superfield to realize inflation in supergravity with the minimal degrees of freedom: the inflaton, graviton, and massive gravitino. As an advantage, the resultant model is free from the catastrophic production of gravitinos due to its vanishing propagation speed. However, the model suffers from the standard gravitino problem, and its viability depends on the mass spectrum and the thermal history of the universe.
If local supersymmetry is the correct extension of the standard model of particle physics, then following Inflation the early universe would have been populated by gravitinos produced from scatterings in the hot plasma during reheating. Their abundance is directly related to the magnitude of the reheating temperature. The gravitino lifetime is fixed as a function of its mass, and for gravitinos with lifetimes longer than the age of the universe at redshift $z\simeq 2\times 10^{6}$ (or roughly $6\times 10^6{\rm s}$), decay products can produce spectral distortion of the cosmic microwave backgro…
In this paper, we explore the parameter space of hilltop supernatural inflation model and show the regime within which there is no gravitino problem even if we consider both thermal and nonthermal production mechanisms. We make plots for the allowed reheating temperature as a function of gravitino mass by constraints from big-bang nucleosynthesis. We also plot the constraint when gravitino is assumed to be stable and plays the role of dark matter.
We revisit gravitino production following inflation. As a first step, we review the standard calculation of gravitino production in the thermal plasma formed at the end of post-inflationary reheating when the inflaton has completely decayed. Next we consider gravitino production prior to the completion of reheating, assuming that the inflaton decay products thermalize instantaneously while they are still dilute. We then argue that instantaneous thermalization is in general a good approximation, and also show that the contribution of non-thermal gravitino production via the collisions of inflat…
We study the high-energy equivalence between helicity 1/2 gravitinos and goldstinos in order to calculate the production of gravitinos in time-dependent scalar and gravitational backgrounds. We derive this equivalence for equations of motion, paying attention to some subtleties, mainly due to external sources, that are not present in the standard proofs. We also propose the Landau gauge as a simplifying alternative to the usual gauge choices, both for practical calculations and in the equivalence theorem proof.
A new modified string-inspired modular invariant supergravity model is proposed and is applied to realize the slow roll inflation in Einstein frame. Because inflation deals with Planck scale physics, the dilaton can be a strong candidate for identification with the inflaton. The model we used, cleared the $η$-problem and negative energy problem of potential at stable point, and appeared to predict successfully the values of observations at the inflation era. We proved that the model explains WMAP observations appropriately. Moreover, a mechanism of SSB and Gravitino production just after the e…
We discuss the cosmological gravitino problem in inflation models in which the inflaton potential is constructed from Kähler potential rather than superpotential: a representative model is $\overline{\text{D}3}$-induced geometric inflation. A critical ingredient in this type of models is the coupling of the inflaton and Polonyi (supersymmetry-breaking) field in the Kähler potential, which is needed to build the inflaton potential. We point out the same coupling let the inflaton dominantly decay into a pair of inflatino and gravitino causing the gravitino problem. We propose some possible solut…
We investigate the production of gravitinos in a cosmological background. Gravitinos can be produced during preheating after inflation due to a combined effect of interactions with an oscillating inflaton field and absence of conformal invariance. In order to get insight on conformal properties of gravitino we reformulate phenomenological supergravity in SU(2,2|1)-symmetric way. The Planck mass and F- and D-terms appear via the gauge-fixed value of a superfield that we call conformon. We find that in general the probability of gravitino production is not suppressed by the small gravitational c…
In this talk, we studied the implication of the constraint on the reheating temperature coming from the gravitino problem on models of leptogenesis. We point out that in supersymmetric extensions of the standard model, all existing models of neutrino masses and leptogenesis, except the one with right-handed singlet neutrinos are ruled out for a large range of the gravitino mass.
Thermal history after inflation is studied in a chaotic inflation model with supersymmetric couplings of the inflaton to matter fields. Time evolution equation is solved in a formalism that incorporates both the back reaction of particle production and the cosmological expansion. The effect of the parametric resonance gives rise to a rapid initial phase of the inflaton decay followed by a slow stage of the Born term decay. Thermalization takes place immediately after the first explosive stage for a medium strength of the coupling among created particles. As an application we calculate time evo…
We review work on the formation of gravitino condensates via the super-Higgs effect in the early Universe. This is a scenario for both inflating the early universe and breaking local supersymmetry (supergravity), entirely independent of any coupling to external matter. The goldstino mode associated with the breaking of (global) supersymmetry is "eaten" by the gravitino field, which becomes massive (via its own vacuum condensation) and breaks the local supersymmetry (supergravity) dynamically. The most natural association of gravitino condensates with inflation proceeds in an indirect way, via …
We extend our previous study of supersymmetric Higgs inflation in the context of no-scale supergravity and grand unification, to include models based on the flipped SU(5) and the Pati-Salam group. Like the previous SU(5) GUT model, these yield a class of inflation models whose inflation predictions interpolate between those of the quadratic chaotic inflation and Starobinsky-like inflation, while avoiding tension with proton decay limits. We further analyse the reheating process in these models, and derive the number of e-folds, which is independent of the reheating temperature. We derive the c…
Supergravity embedding of the Standard Model of particle physics provides phenomenologically well-motivated and observationally viable inflationary scenarios. We investigate a class of inflationary models based on the superconformal framework of supergravity and discuss constraints from the reheating temperature, with the particular focus on the gravitino problem inherent in these scenarios. We point out that a large part of the parameter space within the latest BICEP/Keck 95\% confidence contour may have been excluded by the gravitino constraints, depending on the mass scale of the inflaton. …
The warm inflation paradigm considers the continuous production of radiation during inflation due to dissipative effects. In its strong dissipation limit, warm inflation gives way to a radiation dominated Universe. High scale inflation then yields a high reheating temperature, which then poses a severe gravitino overproduction problem for the supersymmetric realisations of warm inflation. In this paper we show that in certain class of supersymmetric models the dissipative dynamics of the inflaton is such that the field can avoid its complete decay after inflation. In some cases, the residual e…
We investigate compatibility of the pure gravity mediation (or the minimal split supersymmetry) with chaotic inflation models in supergravity. We find that an approximate Z2 parity of the inflaton is useful to suppress gravitino production from thermal bath and to obtain consistent inflation dynamics. We discuss production of the lightest supersymmetric particle through the decay of the inflaton with the approximate Z2 symmetry and find that a large gravitino mass is favored to avoid the overproduction of the lightest supersymmetric particle, while a lower gravitino mass requires tuning of par…
We study a version of Starobinsky-like inflation in no-scale supergravity (SUGRA) where a Polonyi term in the hidden sector breaks supersymmetry (SUSY) after inflation, providing a link between the gravitino mass and inflation. We extend the theory to the visible sector and calculate the soft-SUSY breaking parameters depending on the modular weights in the superpotential and choice of Kähler potential. We are led to either no-scale SUGRA or pure gravity mediated SUSY breaking patterns, but with inflationary constraints on the Polonyi term setting a strict upper bound on the gravitino mass $m_…
We study the phenomenology of generic supergravity models in which gravity mediation naturally competes with gauge mediation as the origin of supergravity-breaking. This class of hybrid models has been recently motivated in string inspired constructions and differs from usual gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models in having messenger masses of order of the GUT scale. In these scenarios the gravitino can be the lightest supersymmetric particle in wide regions of the parameter space and therefore a potential candidate for dark matter. We investigate this possibility, imposing the WMAP boun…
We revisit the implications of the R-invariant New Inflation model to the supersymmetric standard model in light of recent discussion of gravitino production processes by the decay of the inflaton or the supersymmetry breaking field. We show that the models with supergravity mediation do not go well with the R-invariant New Inflation model, where the gravitino abundance produced by the decay of the inflaton or the supersymmetry breaking field significantly exceeds the bounds from cosmological observations without fine-tuning. We also show that the models with gauge mediation can go together wi…
We consider the potential problems due to the production of inflatinos and gravitinos after inflation. Inflationary models with a single scale set by the microwave background anisotropies have a low enough reheat temperature to avoid problems with the thermal production of gravitinos. Moreover, the nonthermal production of gravitinos has been shown to be sufficiently small if the sector ultimately responsible for supersymmetry breaking is coupled only gravitationally to the inflationary sector. Still, in some models, inflatinos can be created during preheating with a substantial abundance. The…
We discuss the emergence of an inflationary phase in supergravity with the super-Higgs effect due to dynamical spontaneous breaking of supersymmetry, in which the role of the inflaton is played by the gravitino condensate. Realistic models compatible with the Planck satellite CMB data are found in conformal supergravity scenarios with dynamical gravitino masses that are small compared to the Planck mass, as could be induced by a non-trivial vacuum expectation value of the dilaton superfield of appropriate magnitude.
We investigate the leptogenesis via decays of heavy Majorana neutrinos which are produced non-thermally in inflaton decays. We make a comprehensive study on the leptogenesis assuming various supersymmetric (SUSY) models for hybrid, new and topological inflations. For an estimation of the lepton asymmetry we adopt the Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism for mass matrices of quarks and leptons. We find that all of these models are successful to produce the lepton asymmetry enough to explain the baryon number in the present universe. Here we impose low reheating temperatures such as $T_R \lesssim 10^8$ Ge…
It has been recently shown that it is possible to excite gravitinos in an expanding background due to a time varying scalar field oscillating at the bottom of the inflationary potential. The two components of the gravitino, namely helicity 1/2 and helicity 3/2, are excited differently due to the presence of different time varying mass scales in the problem. In this paper we analyse the production of both the helicities in a multi-chiral scenario, in particular focusing on a general model of hybrid inflation. Fermion production in hybrid models is very much different from that of the chaotic mo…
Several models of inflection point inflation with the volume modulus as the inflaton are investigated. Non-perturbative superpotentials containing two gaugino condensation terms or one such term with threshold corrections are considered. It is shown that the gravitino mass may be much smaller than the Hubble scale during inflation if at least one of the non-perturbative terms has a positive exponent. Higher order corrections to the Kahler potential have to be taken into account in such models. Those corrections are used to stabilize the potential in the axion direction in the vicinity of the i…
We propose the hybrid gravity-gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking where the gravitino mass is about several GeV. The strong constraints on supersymmetry viable parameter space from the CMS and ATLAS experiments at the LHC can be relaxed due to the heavy colored supersymmetric particles, and it is consistent with null results in the dark matter (DM) direct search experiments such as XENON100. In particular, the possible maximal flavor and CP violations from the relatively small gravity mediation may naturally account for the recent LHCb anomaly. In addition, because the gravitino mass is arou…
Gravitinos and hidden sector fields often cause a cosmological disaster in supersymmetric models. We find that a model with gravitational gauge mediation solves such a problem quite naturally. The mu-problem is also absent in the model. Moreover, the abundance of gravitinos explains correct amount of dark matter of the universe. The dark matter abundance can be calculated without detailed information on the thermal history of the universe such as the reheating temperature after inflation.
Most of the inflation models end up with non-vanishing vacuum expectation values of the inflaton fields ϕin the true vacuum, which induce, in general, nonvanishing auxiliary field G_ϕfor the inflaton potential in supergravity. We show that the presence of nonzero G_ϕgives rise to inflaton decay into a pair of the gravitinos and are thereby severely constrained by cosmology especially if the gravitino is unstable and its mass is in a range of O(100) GeV \sim O(10) TeV. For several inflation models, we explicitly calculate the values of G_ϕand find that most of them are excluded or on the verge …
We have recently shown that, if the inflaton has a nonzero vacuum expectation value, it generically couples to any matter fields that appear in the superpotential at the tree level, and to any gauge sectors through anomalies in the supergravity. Through these processes, the inflaton decays into the supersymmetry breaking sector, producing many gravitinos. The inflaton also directly decays into a pair of the gravitinos. Taking account of these processes, we derive constraints on both inflation models and supersymmetry breaking scenarios for avoiding overproduction of the gravitinos.
As is well known, the gravitational degrees of freedom contained in $R+ζR^{2}$ (super)gravity lead to Starobinsky's potential, in a one-field setting for inflationary Cosmology that appears favored by Planck data. In this letter we discuss another interesting aspect of this model, related to gravitino production, with emphasis on the corresponding mass spectrum. Assuming that supersymmetry is broken at a very high scale, Super Heavy Gravitino Dark Matter (SHGDM) and Starobinsky's inflation can be coherently unified in a $R+ζR^{2}$ supergravity. Gravitinos are assumed to be the Lightest Supersy…
We propose a Kähler potential in supergravity which successfully accommodates chaotic inflation. This model can have a large gravitino mass without giving a large mass to squarks and sleptons, and thus is free from both the gravitino problem and entropy crisis. In this model baryogenesis takes place naturally, identifying the inflaton with a right-handed sneutrino with its mass $M \simeq 10^{13}$GeV, which is consistent with the COBE data and the Mikheyev--Smirnov--Wolfenstein solution to the solar neutrino problem. The model can also accommodate the matter content appropriate for the mixed da…
In a large class of supersymmetric (SUSY) axion model the mass of axino $\axino$ (a fermionic superpartner of the axion) is predicted as $m_{\axino} \lesssim {\cal O}(1)$ keV. Thus, the axino is the lightest SUSY particle (LSP). We pointed out that such a light axino provides a natural solution to the gravitino problem, if the gravitino is the next LSP. We derive a constraint on the reheating temperature $T_R$ of inflation, $T_R \lesssim 10^{15}$ GeV for the gravitino mass $m_{3/2} \simeq 100$ GeV, which is much weaker than that obtained in the minimal SUSY standard model.
We revisit the hybrid inflation model gauged by $U(1)_{B-L}$ extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) in a no-scale background. Considering a single predictive framework, we study inflation, leptogenesis, gavitino cosmology, and the stochastic background of gravitational waves produced by metastable cosmic strings. The spontaneous breaking of $U(1)_{B-L}$ at the end of inflation produces a network of metastable cosmic strings while, the interaction between $U(1)_{B-L}$ Higgs field and the neutrinos generate heavy Majorana masses for the right-handed neutrinos. The heavy Ma…
We revisit Higgs inflation in the framework of a minimal extension of the Standard Model gauge symmetry by a $U(1)_{B-L}$ factor. Various aspects are taken into account with particular focus on the role of the supersymmetry breaking (SUSY) scale and the cosmological constraints associated with the gravitino. The scalar potential of the model is considered in the context of no-scale supergravity consisting of the F-part constructed from the Kähler function, the D-terms and soft SUSY contributions. We investigate several limiting cases and by varying the SUSY scale from a few TeV up to intermedi…
It is known that gravitinos are non-thermally produced in inflaton decay processes, which excludes many inflation models for a wide range of the gravitino mass. We find that the constraints from the gravitino overproduction can be greatly relaxed if the supersymmetry breaking field is much lighter than the inflaton, and if the dynamical scale of the supersymmetry breaking is higher than the inflaton mass. In particular, we show that many inflation models then become consistent with the pure gravity mediation with O(100)TeV gravitino which naturally explains the recently observed Higgs boson ma…
