One of the effects of noncommutative coordinate operators is that the delta-function connected to the quantum mechanical amplitude between states sharp to the position operator gets smeared by a Gaussian distribution. Although this is not the full account of effects of noncommutativity, this effect is in particular important, as it removes the point singularities of Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström solutions. In this context, it seems to be of some importance to probe also into ring-like singularities which appear in the Kerr case. In particular, starting with an anisotropic energy-momentum tensor and a general axisymmetric ansatz of the metric together with an arbitrary mass distribution (e.g. Gaussian) we derive the full set of Einstein equations that the Noncommutative Geometry inspired Kerr solution should satisfy. Using these equations we prove two theorems regarding the existence of certain Kerr metrics inspired by Noncommutative Geometry.
We reduce Einstein's field equations for the interior of a uniformly rotating, axisymmetric perfect fluid to a system of six second order partial differential equations for the pressure p the energy density $μ$ and four dependent variables.Four of these equations do not depend on p and $μ$ and the other two determine p and $μ$.
Clairin's method of obtaining Bäcklund transformations is applied to Einstein's field equations for the interior of a uniformly rotating stationary axisymmetric perfect fluid. It is shown that for arbitrary pressure $p$ and mass density $μ$ the method does not give non-trivial Bäcklund transformations, while if $μ+ 3p =0$ it gives the transformation of Ehlers.
We investigate the interior hyperbolic region of axisymmetric and stationary black holes surrounded by a matter distribution. First, we treat the corresponding initial value problem of the hyperbolic Einstein equations numerically in terms of a single-domain fully pseudo-spectral scheme. Thereafter, a rigorous mathematical approach is given, in which soliton methods are utilized to derive an explicit relation between the event horizon and an inner Cauchy horizon. This horizon arises as the boundary of the future domain of dependence of the event horizon. Our numerical studies provide strong ev…
We study the interior of distorted static axisymmetric black holes. We obtain a general interior solution and study its asymptotics both near the horizon and singularity. As a special example, we apply the obtained results to the case of the so-called `caged' black holes.
We study the interior electrovacuum region of axisymmetric and stationary black holes with surrounding matter and find that there exists always a regular inner Cauchy horizon inside the black hole, provided the angular momentum $J$ and charge $Q$ of the black hole do not vanish simultaneously. In particular, we derive an explicit relation for the metric on the Cauchy horizon in terms of that on the event horizon. Moreover, our analysis reveals the remarkable universal relation $(8πJ)^2+(4πQ^2)^2=A^+ A^-$, where $A^+$ and $A^-$ denote the areas of event and Cauchy horizon respectively.
We consider solutions to the linear wave equation in the interior region of extremal Kerr black holes. We show that axisymmetric solutions can be extended continuously beyond the Cauchy horizon and moreover that, if we assume suitably fast polynomial decay in time along the event horizon, their local energy is finite. We also extend these results to non-axisymmetric solutions on slowly rotating extremal Kerr-Newman black holes. These results are the analogues of results obtained in [D. Gajic, Linear waves in the interior of extremal black holes I, arXiv:1509.06568] for extremal Reissner-Nordst…
We present the Ernst potential and the line element of an exact solution of Einstein's vacuum field equations that contains as arbitrary parameters the total mass, the angular momentum, and the quadrupole moment of a rotating mass distribution. We show that in the limiting case of slowly rotating and slightly deformed configuration, there exists a coordinate transformation that relates the exact solution with the approximate Hartle solution. It is shown that this approximate solution can be smoothly matched with an interior perfect fluid solution with physically reasonable properties. This ope…
We prove that, in the non-extreme Kerr-Newman black hole geometry, the Dirac equation has no normalizable, time-periodic solutions. A key tool is Chandrasekhar's separation of the Dirac equation in this geometry. A similar non-existence theorem is established in a more general class of stationary, axisymmetric metrics in which the Dirac equation is known to be separable. These results indicate that, in contrast with the classical situation of massive particle orbits, a quantum mechanical Dirac particle must either disappear into the black hole or escape to infinity.
We numerically solve Einstein's equations coupled to a scalar field in the interior of Kerr black holes. We find shock waves form near the inner horizon. The shocks grow exponentially in amplitude and need not be axisymmetric. Observers who pass through the shocks experience exponentially large tidal forces and are accelerated exponentially close to the speed of light.
Using the Harmonic map ansatz, we reduce the axisymmetric, static Einstein-Maxwell equations coupled with a magnetized perfect fluid to a set of Poisson-like equations. We were able to integrate the Poisson equations in terms of an arbitrary function $M=M(ρ,ζ)$ and some integration constants. The thermodynamic equation restricts the solutions to only some state equations, but in some cases when the solution exists, the interior solution can be matched with the corresponding exterior one.
The existence and stability of timelike and null circular orbits (COs) in the equatorial plane of general static and axisymmetric (SAS) spacetime are investigated in this work. Using the fixed point approach, we first obtained a necessary and sufficient condition for the non-existence of timelike COs. It is then proven that there will always exist timelike COs at large $ρ$ in an asymptotically flat SAS spacetime with a positive ADM mass and moreover, these timelike COs are stable. Some other sufficient conditions on the stability of timelike COs are also solved. We then found the necessary and…
We present the detailed analyses of a model of loop quantum Schwarzschild interior coupled to a massless scalar field and extend the results in our previous rapid communication arXiv:2006.08313 to more general schemes. It is shown that the spectrum of the black hole mass is discrete and does not contain zero. This indicates the existence of a black hole remnant after Hawking evaporation due to loop quantum gravity effects. Besides to show the existence of a stable black hole remnant in the vacuum case, the quantum dynamics for the non-vacuum case is also solved and compared with the effective …
We review the problem of describing the gravitational field of compact stars in general relativity. We focus on the deviations from spherical symmetry which are expected to be due to rotation and to the natural deformations of mass distributions. We assume that the relativistic quadrupole moment takes into account these deviations, and consider the class of axisymmetric static and stationary quadrupolar metrics which satisfy Einstein's equations in empty space and in the presence of matter represented by a perfect fluid. We formulate the physical conditions that must be satisfied for a particu…
The motion of test particles in stationary axisymmetric gravitational fields is generally nonintegrable unless a nontrivial constant of motion, in addition to energy and angular momentum along the symmetry axis, exists. The Carter constant in Kerr-de Sitter spacetime is the only example known to date. Proposed astrophysical tests of the black-hole no-hair theorem have often involved integrable gravitational fields more general than the Kerr family, but the existence of such fields has been a matter of debate. To elucidate this problem, we treat its Newtonian analogue by systematically searchin…
We investigate the existence and phenomenology of stable photon orbits (SPOs) in stationary axisymmetric electrovacuum spacetimes in four dimensions. First, we review the classification of equatorial circular photon orbits on Kerr-Newman spacetimes in the charge-spin plane. Second, using a Hamiltonian formulation, we show that Reissner-Nordström di-holes (a family encompassing the Majumdar-Papapetrou and Weyl-Bach special cases) admit SPOs, in a certain parameter regime that we investigate. Third, we explore the transition from order to chaos for typical SPOs bounded within a toroidal region a…
We prove the "existence of a piece of Scri near $i^0$" (with most likely poor differentiability of the conformally rescaled metric) for general asymptotically flat data with well-defined energy-momentum. The proof uses scaling and a gluing construction to reduce the problem to Bieri's stability theorem.
Extending recent work in 5 dimensions, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the reduced Einstein equations for vacuum black holes in $(n+3)$-dimensional spacetimes admitting the isometry group $\mathbb{R}\times U(1)^{n}$, with Kaluza-Klein asymptotics for $n\geq3$. This is equivalent to establishing existence and uniqueness for singular harmonic maps $φ: \mathbb{R}^3\setminusΓ\rightarrow SL(n+1,\mathbb{R})/SO(n+1)$ with prescribed blow-up along $Γ$, a subset of the $z$-axis in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We also analyze the topology of the domain of outer communication for these spacetime…
We construct a $T$-axisymmetric, spacelike, spherically symmetric, constant mean curvature hypersurfaces foliation in the Kruskal extension with properties that the mean curvature varies in each slice and ranges from minus infinity to plus infinity. This family of hypersurfaces extends the CMC foliation discussions posted by Malec and Ó Murchadha in 2009.
Garcia and Campuzano claim to have found a previously overlooked family of stationary and axisymmetric conformally flat spacetimes, contradicting an old theorem of Collinson. In both these papers it is tacitly assumed that the isometry group is orthogonally transitive. Under the same assumption, we point out here that Collinson's result still holds if one demands the existence of an axis of symmetry on which the axial Killing vector vanishes. On the other hand if the assumption of orthogonal transitivity is dropped, a wider class of metrics is allowed and it is possible to find explicit counte…
We derive a necessary condition for the existence of marginally stable circular orbits of test particles in stationary axisymmetric spacetimes which possess a refection symmetry with respect to the equatorial plane; photon orbits are also addressed. Energy and angular momentum are shown to decouple from metric quantities, rendering a purely geometric characterization of circular orbits for this general class of metrics. The subsequent system is analyzed using resultants, providing an algorithmic approach for finding MSCO conditions. MSCOs are explicitly calculated for concrete examples of phys…
We show that, within the AdS/CFT correspondence, recent formulations of the information paradox can be reduced to a question about the existence of certain kinds of operators in the CFT. We describe a remarkably simple construction of these operators on a given state of the CFT. Our construction leads to a smooth horizon, addresses the strong subadditivity paradox, while preserving locality within effective field theory, and reconciles the existence of the interior with the growth of states with energy in the CFT. We also extend our construction to non-equilibrium states.
We present a simple exact solution for the interior of a rotating star. The interpretation of the stress energy tensor as that of a fluid requires the existence of a high viscosity, which is quite expected for a rotating fluid. In spite of the negative stresses, energy conditions are in fact all satisfied.
We prove existence of all possible bi-axisymmetric near-horizon geometries of 5-dimensional minimal supergravity. These solutions possess the cross-sectional horizon topology $S^3$, $S^1\times S^2$, or $L(p,q)$ and come with prescribed electric charge, two angular momenta, and a dipole charge (in the ring case). Moreover, we establish uniqueness of these solutions up to an isometry of the symmetric space $G_{2(2)}/SO(4)$.
We show that, for general static or axisymmetric stationary spacetimes, a cosmological Killing horizon exists only if $R_{ab}n^{a}n^{b}< 0$ for a hypersurface orthogonal timelike $n^{a}$, at least over some portion of the region of interest of the manifold. This implies violation of the strong energy condition by the matter fields, the simplest example of which is a positive cosmological constant.
Collaborative international efforts under the name of the Event Horizon Telescope project, using sub- mm very long baseline interferometry, are soon expected to provide the first images of the shadow cast by the candidate supermassive black hole in our Galactic center, Sagittarius A*. Observations of this shadow would provide direct evidence of the existence of astrophysical black holes. Although it is expected that astrophysical black holes are described by the axisymmetric Kerr solution, there also exist many other black hole solutions, both in general relativity and in other theories of gra…
