This paper presents an analysis of building blocks propagation in Quantum-Inspired Genetic Algorithm, which belongs to a new class of metaheuristics drawing their inspiration from both biological evolution and unitary evolution of quantum systems. The expected number of quantum chromosomes matching a schema has been analyzed and a random variable corresponding to this issue has been introduced. The results have been compared with Simple Genetic Algorithm. Also, it has been presented how selected binary quantum chromosomes cover a domain of one-dimensional fitness function.

Performance comparison has been conducted on a benchmark of 20 deceptive combinatorial optimization problems. It has been p…
Designing the structure of neural networks is considered one of the most challenging tasks in deep learning, especially when there is few prior knowledge about the task domain. Specifically, we first use primary succession to rapidly evolve a population …

Moreover, by employing a known matrix construction together with the genetic algorithm, we are able to obtain new binary self-dual codes of lengths 68 and 72 in a…

In this paper, we present a first attempt at incorporating some of the basic structural properties of complex biological systems which are believed to be necessary preconditions for system qualities such as robustness. In particular, we focus on two important conditions missing in Evolutionary Algorithm populations; a self-organized definition of locality and interaction epistasis…
Recently, researchers have applied genetic algorithms (GAs) to address some problems in quantum computation. Also, there has been some works in the designing of genetic algorithms based on quantum theoretical concepts and techniques. The so called Quantum Evolutionary Programming has two major sub-areas: Quantum Inspired Genetic Algorithms (QIGAs) and Quantum Genetic Algorithms (QGAs). The former adopts qubit chromosomes as representations and employs quantum gates for the search of the best solution. The later tries to solve a key question in this field: what GAs will look like as an implemen…

The novelty of HQEA lies in it's incorporation of QHW Remote Search and QHW Local Search - the quantum equivalents of classical mutation and local search, that this paper defines. The intuitive reasoning behind this approach, and the exploration-exploitation balance thus occurring is explained. From the res…

This work proposes a new edge about the Chaotic Genetic Algorithm (CGA) and the importance of the entropy in the initial population. Inspired by chaos theory the CGA uses chaotic maps to modify the stochastic parameters of Genetic Algorithm (GA). This strategy exhibits the relationship between entropy and performance optimization in complex search spaces. Our study includes the optimization of nine benchmark functions using eight different chaotic maps for each…

The hyperclimbing hypothesis is a hypothetical explanation for adaptation in genetic algorithms with uniform crossover (UGAs). Hyperclimbing is an intuitive, general-purpose, non-local search heuristic applicable to discrete product spaces with rugged or stochastic cost functions. The strength of this heuristic lie in its insusceptibility to local optima when the cost function is deterministic, and its tolerance for noise when the cost function is stochastic. Hyperclimbing works by decimating a search space, i.e. by iteratively fixing the values of small numbers of variables. The hyperclimbing…

The symmetric encryption key is generated by four pairs of chromosomes with multi-layer random sequences. The encryption starts by a GF of the principal key-agent in a single block, then HGT performs obfuscation where the genes are pixels and the chromosomes are the rows and columns. A Salt extracted from the image hash-value is used to …
Evolutionary algorithms (EAs), such as the genetic algorithm (GA), offer an elegant way to handle combinatorial optimization problems (COPs). However, limited by expertise and resources, most users do not have enough capability to implement EAs to solve COPs. An intuitive and promising solution is to outsource evolutionary operations to a cloud server, whilst it suffers from privacy concerns. To this end, this paper proposes a novel computing paradigm, evolution as a service (EaaS), where a cloud server renders evolutionary computation services for users without sacrificing users' privacy. Blotto Games are a popular model of multi-dimensional strategic resource allocation. Two players allocate resources in different battlefields in an auction setting. While competition with equal budgets is well understood, little is known about strategic behavior under asymmetry of resources. We introduce a genetic algorithm, a search heuristic inspired from biological evolution, interpreted as social learning, to solve this problem. Most performant strategies are combined to create more performant strategies. Mutations allow the algorithm to efficiently scan the space of possible strategies, a…

Since this algorithm is based on population, the proposed algorithm starts with an initial set of duelists. The duel is to determine the winner and loser. The loser learns from the winner, while the winner try their new skill or technique that may improve their fighting capabilities. A few duelists with highest fighting capabilities are called as champion. The champion train a new duelists such as their capabilities. The new duelist will join the tournament as a representative of each champion. …

Program synthesis aims to {\it automatically} find programs from an underlying programming language that satisfy a given specification. While this has the potential to revolutionize computing, how to search over the vast space of programs efficiently is an unsolved challenge in program synthesis. In cases where large programs are required for a solution, it is generally believed that {\it stochastic} search has advantages over other classes of search techniques. Unfortunately, existing stochastic program synthesizers do not meet this expectation very well, suffering from the scalability issue.…

This study is focused on applying genetic algorithms (GA) to model and band selection in hyperspectral image classification. We use a forensic-inspired data set of seven hyperspectral images with blood and five visually similar substances to test GA-optimised classifiers in two scenarios: when the training and test data come from the same image and when they come from different images, which is a more challenging task due to significant spectra differences. In our experiments we compare GA with a classic model optimisation through grid search. Our results show that GA-based model optimisation …

The Schrodinger equation is one of the most important equations in physics and chemistry and can be solved in the simplest cases by computer numerical methods. Since the beginning of the 70s of the last century the computer began to be used to solve this equation in elementary quantum systems, e.g. and in the most complex case a hydrogen-like system. Obtaining the solution means finding the wave function, which allows predicting the physical and chemical properties of the quantum system. However, when a quantum system is more complex than a hydrogen-like system then we must be satisfied with a…

Over 60,000 songs are released on Spotify every day, and the competition for the listener's attention is immense. In that regard, the importance of captivating and inviting cover art cannot be underestimated, because it is deeply entangled with a song's character and the artist's identity, and remains one of the most important gateways to lead people to discover music. However, designing cover art is a highly creative, lengthy and sometimes expensive process that can be daunting, especially for non-professional artists. For this reason, we propose a novel deep-learning framework to generate co…

Recent discoveries about Epigenetics regulation processes that occur "on top of" or "in addition to" the genetic basis for inheritance involve changes that affect and improve gene expression. They raise the question of improving genetic algorithms (GAs) by modeling epigenetics operators. This paper proposes a new epigenetics algorithm that mimics the epigenetics phenomenon known as DNA methylation. The novelty of o…
