Let S be a scheme. We compute explicitly the group of homomorphisms, the S-sheaf of homomorphisms, the group of extensions, and the S-sheaf of extensions involving locally constant S-group schemes, abelian S-schemes, and S-tori. Using the obtained results, we study the categories of biextensions involving these geometrical objets. In particular, we prove that if G_i (for i=1,2,3) is an extension of an abelian S-scheme A_i by an S-torus T_i, the category of biextensions of (G_1,G_2) by G_3 is equivalent to the category of biextensions of the underlying abelian S-schemes (A_1,A_2) by the underlying S-torus T_3.
We study the homogeneous irreducible Severi-Brauer varieties over an Abelian variety $A$. Such objects were classified by Brion, \cite{Bri}. Here we interpret that result within the context of cubical structures and biextensions for certain $\G_m$-torsors over finite subgroups of $A$. Our results can be seen as an instance of the theory developed by Breen, \cite{Breen:1983}, and Moret-Bailly, \cite{Moret-Bailly}.
In this paper we study the singularities of the invariant metric of the Poincaré bundle over a family of abelian varieties and their duals over a base of arbitrary dimension. As an application of this study we prove the effectiveness of the height jump divisors for families of pointed abelian varieties. The effectiveness of the height jump divisor was conjectured by Hain in the more general case of variations of polarized Hodge structures of weight $-1$.
Let X be a smooth projective variety of dimension n. If $p+q=n+1$ then Bloch has defined a ${\bf G}_m$-biextension E over the product of the Chow groups $CH^p_0(X)$ and $CH^q_0(X)$ of homologically trivial cycles. We prove that E is the pullback of the Poincare biextension over the product of intermediate Jacobians in characteristic zero. This is used to study various equivalence relations for algebraic cycles. In particular we reprove Murres result that Griffiths conjecture holds for codimension two cycles, i.e. every codim. two cycle algebraically and incidence equivalent to zero has torsion…
We study, using the language of log schemes, the problem of extending biextensions of smooth commutative group schemes by the multiplicative group. This was first considered by Grothendieck in SGA 7. We show that this problem admits a solution in the category of sheaves for Kato's log flat topology, in contradistinction to what can be observed using the fppf topology, for which monodromic obstructions were defined by Grothendieck. In particular, in the case of an abelian variety and its dual, it is possible to extend the Weil biextension to the whole Néron model. This allows us to define a pai…
The semi-simplicity of the Hodge group is proved for a simple Abelian variety with a stable reduction of odd toric (reductive) rank. If, besides, the dimension of the Abelian variety is an odd integer, then the Hodge conjecture on algebraic cycles holds for it.
We prove formulas for the p-adic logarithm of quaternionic Darmon points on p-adic tori and modular abelian varieties over Q having purely multiplicative reduction at p. These formulas are amenable to explicit computations and are the first to treat Stark-Heegner type points on higher-dimensional abelian varieties.
Let S be a locally noetherian scheme and consider two extensions G_1 and G_2 of abelian S-schemes by S-tori. In this note we prove that the fppf-sheaf Corr _S(G_1,G_2) of divisorial correspondences between G_1 and G_2 is representable. Moreover, using divisorial correspondences, we show that line bundles on an extension G of an abelian scheme by a torus define group homomorphisms between G and Pic_{ G/S}.
Let $f: X \rightarrow A$ be an abelian cover from a complex algebraic variety with quotient singularities to an abelian variety. We show that $f^*$ induces an isomorphism between the rational cohomology rings $H^\bullet(A, \mathbb{Q})$ and $H^\bullet(X, \mathbb{Q})$ if and only if $f^*$ induces an isomorphism between the Chow rings with rational coefficients $\mathrm{CH}^\bullet(A)_{\mathbb{Q}}$ and $\mathrm{CH}^\bullet(X)_{\mathbb{Q}}$.
We construct a canonical compactification $SQ^{toric}_{g,K}$ of the moduli of abelian varieties over $Z[ζ_N, 1/N]$ where $ζ_N$ is a primitive $N$-th root of unity. This is very similar to, but slightly diferent from the compactification constructed by the author in Inventiones vol. 136 (1999). Any degenerate abelian scheme on the boundary of $SQ^{toric}_{g,K}$ is reduced and singular and it is one of the stable quasi-abelian varieties introduced by Alexeev and the author (Tohoku J. 1999).
We consider the problem of existence of Neron models for a family of abelian varieties over a base of dimension greater than 1. We show that when S is of equicharacteristic zero, the condition of toric additivity introduced in [Ore18] is sufficient for the existence of a Neron model, and also necessary under some extra assumptions. Furthermore, we give an equivalent formulation of toric additivity in terms of monodromy action on the l-adic Tate module.
We classify two-dimensional complex tori admitting automorphisms with positive entropy in terms of the entropies they exhibit. For each possible positive value of entropy, we describe the set of two-dimensional complex tori admitting automorphisms with that entropy.
SYZ mirror conjecture predicts that a Calabi-Yau manifold $X$ consists of a family of tori which are dual to a family of special lagrangian tori on the mirror dual manifold $\hat{X}$. Here we consider a fibration of polarized abelian varieties and we construct a dual one. Moreover we prove that they are equivalent at the level of derived categories.
We study semi--algebraic domains associated with symplectic tori and conjecturally identified with spaces of stability conditions on the Fukaya categories of these tori. Our motivation is to test which results from the theory of flat surfaces could hold for more general spaces of stability conditions. The main results concern systolic bounds and volume of the moduli space.
The purpose of this paper is to compute determinant index bundles of certain families of Real Dirac type operators on Klein surfaces as elements in the corresponding Grothendieck group of Real line bundles in the sense of Atiyah. On a Klein surface these determinant index bundles have a natural holomorphic description as theta line bundles. In particular we compute the first Stiefel-Whitney classes of the corresponding fixed point bundles on the real part of the Picard torus. The computation of these classes is important, because they control to a large extent the orientability of certain modu…
We show that the space of theta functions on tropical tori is identified with a convex polyhedron. We also show a Riemann-Roch inequality for tropical abelian surfaces by calculating the self-intersection numbers of divisors.
In this article, we focus on a new perspective of automorphisms of complex 2-tori, reviewing previous works from a lattice-theoretic point of view. In particular, we give a classification of families of symplectic and non-symplectic automorphisms of prime order.
Let $X_0$ be a smooth geometrically connected variety defined over a finite field $\mathbb F_q$ and let $\mathcal E_0^{\dagger}$ be an irreducible overconvergent $F$-isocrystal on $X_0$. We show that if a subobject of minimal slope of the associated convergent $F$-isocrystal $\mathcal E_0$ admits a non-zero morphism to $\mathcal O_{X_0}$ as a convergent isocrystal, then $\mathcal E_0^{\dagger}$ is isomorphic to $\mathcal O^{\dagger}_{X_0}$ as an overconvergent isocrystal. This proves a special case of a conjecture of Kedlaya. The key ingredient in the proof is the study of the monodromy group …
We prove that one can obtain natural bundles of Lie algebras on rank two s-Kähler manifolds, whose fibres are isomorphic to so(s+1,s+1), su(s+1,s+1) and sl(2s + 2,\R). In the most rigid case (which includes complex tori and abelian varieties) these bundles have natural flat connections, whose flat global sections act naturally on cohomology. We also present several natural examples of manifolds which can be equipped with an s-Kähler structure with various levels of rigidity: complex tori and abelian varieties, cotangent bundles of smooth manifolds and moduli of pointed elliptic curves.
A linear algebraic group $G$ is represented by the linear space of its algebraic functions $F(G)$ endowed with multiplication and comultiplication which turn it into a Hopf algebra. Supplying $G$ with a Poisson structure, we get a quantized version $F_q(G)$ which has the same linear structure and comultiplication, but deformed multiplication. This paper develops a similar theory for abelian varieties. A description of abelian varieties $A$ in terms of linear algebra data was given by Mumford: $F(G)$ is replaced by the graded ring of theta functions with symmetric automorphy factors, and comult…
Given a toric affine algebraic variety $X$ and a collection of one-parameter unipotent subgroups $U_1,\ldots,U_s$ of $\mathop{\rm Aut}(X)$ which are normalized by the torus acting on $X$, we show that the group $G$ generated by $U_1,\ldots,U_s$ verifies the following alternative of Tits' type: either $G$ is a unipotent algebraic group, or it contains a non-abelian free subgroup. We deduce that if $G$ is $2$-transitive on a $G$-orbit in $X$, then $G$ contains a non-abelian free subgroup, and so, is of exponential growth.
The versal deformation of Stanley-Reisner schemes associated to equivelar triangulations of the torus is studied. The deformation space is defined by binomials and there is a toric smoothing component which I describe in terms of cones and lattices. Connections to moduli of abelian surfaces are considered. The case of the Möbius torus is especially nice and leads to a projective Calabi-Yau 3-fold with Euler number 6.
Let $G$ be a finite abelian subgroup of $PGL(r-1,K)=\mathrm{Aut}(¶^{r-1}_K)$. In this paper, we prove that the normalization of the $G$-orbit Hilbert scheme $\Hilb^G(¶^{r-1})$ is described as a toric variety, which corresponds to the Gröbner fan for some homogeneous ideal $I$ of $K[x_1, ..., x_r]$.
The Voronoi cone decompositions has been attracting our attention in the compactification problem of the moduli scheme of abelian varieties. The objects to add as the boundary of the moduli scheme are stable quasi-abelian schemes, reduced or nonreduced, which are described in terms of Delaunay decompositions. In this note, we prove that any Delaunay decomposition is simplicially generating if the dimension is less than 5. As a corollary, if the dimension is less than 5, projectively stable quasi-abelian schemes are reduced, and therefore two kinds of stable quasi-abelian schemes, projectively …
We study tori attached to the fundamental groups of plane curves with arbitrary singularities. These tori provide complete information about homology of finite abelian covers of the plane branched along the curve. We calculate these tori in terms of certain linear systems determined by the singularities of the curve. In the case of the complements to a union of lines they can be calculated from the lattice of the arrangement and are closely related to the components of the space of Aomoto complexes with prescribed homology.
The cohomology groups of line bundles over complex tori (or abelian varieties) are classically studied invariants of these spaces. In this article, we compute the cohomology groups of line bundles over various holomorphic, non-commutative deformations of complex tori. Our analysis interpolates between two extreme cases. The first case is a calculation of the space of (cohomological) theta functions for line bundles over constant, commutative deformations. The second case is a calculation of the cohomologies of non-commutative deformations of degree-zero line bundles.
We calculate the formal group law which represents the completion of the Néron model of an algebraic torus over the rationals that splits in a tamely ramified abelian extension. As a tools in the proof, we define and give criterions to compute the Weil restriction of a formal group law and the analog of the fixed part of a formal group law with respect to the action of a (finite) group.
