11Li is a Borromean nucleus, where two out of three objects as 9Li + n and two neutrons independently do not form bound systems. Two neutrons should form a di-neutron cluster in the nuclear field generated by the 9Li core nucleus. We treat di-neutron clustering by solving the two neutron relative wave function precisely by using the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction so that the spatial clustering structure is obtained quantitatively within the whole 11Li nucleus. This di-neutron clustering is an essential dynamics to form the halo structure by making a compact di-neutron cluster, which distributes loosely around the 9Li core. The di-neutron clustering is a new concept and is a general phenomenon in neutron skin and neutron halo nuclei. This quantitative description of di-neutron clustering has made it necessary to consider another important deuteron-like tensor correlation, which is caused by strong tensor interaction in the nucleon-nucleon interaction. The tensor interaction originates from pion exchange and known to provide large attraction to form the 4He nucleus. The unique feature of the tensor correlation is to make highly correlated deuteron-like excitation, which interferes with shell model like structure in a unique way. This dynamical effect removes the magic number effect and makes easy the participation of the s-wave neutrons. Hence, there are pairing and deuteron-like tensor correlations in addition to the mean field structure in 9Li. The combined system of two additional neutrons with the correlated 9Li provides the halo phenomenon, in which the di-neutron clustering develops with the help of large s-wave component caused by the deuteron-like tensor correlation. In this lecture note, we would like to introduce these two new concepts in a systematic manner and fill a gap between the halo phenomenon and the microscopic reason for this interesting phenomenon.
Photon-nuclear reaction in a transport model frame, namely an Extended Quantum Molecular Dynamics (EQMD) model, has been realised at the photon energy of 70-140 MeV in the quasi-deuteron (QD) regime. For an important application, we pay a special focus on photonuclear reactions of $^{12}$C($γ$,np)$^{10}$B where $^{12}$C is considered as different configurations including $α$-clustering. Obvious differences for some observables have been observed among different configurations, which can be attributed to spatial-momentum correlation of a neutron-proton pair inside nucleus, and therefore it give…
The proton-proton momentum correlation function is constructed in three-body photo-disintegration channels from $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O targets in the quasi-deuteron regime within the framework of an extended quantum molecular dynamics model. Using the formula of Lednicky and Lyuboshitz (LL) for the momentum correlation function, we obtain a proton-proton momentum correlation function for the specific three-body photon-disintegration channels of $^{12}$C and $^{16}$O targets, which are assumed to have different initial geometric structures, and extract their respective emission source sizes for …
We propose the transverse velocity ($β_T$) dependence of the anti-deuteron to deuteron ratio as a new observable to search for the QCD critical point in heavy-ion collisions. The QCD critical point can attract the system evolution trajectory in the QCD phase diagram, which is known as focusing effect. To quantify this effect, we employ thermal model and hadronic transport model to simulate the dynamical particle emission along a hypothetical focusing trajectory near critical point. We found the focusing effect can lead to anomalous $β_T$ dependence of $\bar{p}/p$, $\bar{d}/d$ and $^3\overline{…
We calculate the effects of the target mass on deep-inelastic electron scattering on targets of spin one such as the deuteron, focusing on the novel structure functions that enter. It is important to understand these effects given the recent HERMES measurements of the $b_1(x,Q^2)$ structure function of the deuteron. We also derive the spin-one analogues of the Wandzura-Wilczek relations and discuss possible calculations in lattice QCD.
The $α$ ($^4$He) - clustering structure is a common phenomenon in light nuclei due to the decreasing contribution of mean field in few-body system. In this work we presented calculations of giant dipole resonance (GDR) excitations for two non $α$-conjugate light nuclei, namely $^{6}$Li and $^{9}$Be, within a framework of an extended quantum molecular dynamics model. For $^{6}$Li, we investigated the GDR spectra from the two-body clustering structure with $α$ + deuteron as well as the three-body structure with $α$ + $n$ + $p$, and found that the major $α$-clustering contribution on the GDR peak…
We study the deuteron electrodisintegration with inclusion of the neutral currents focusing on the helicity asymmetry of the exclusive cross section in coplanar geometry. We stress that a measurement of this asymmetry in the quasi elastic region is of interest for an experimental determination of the weak form factors of the nucleon, allowing one to obtain the parity violating electron neutron asymmetry. Numerically, we consider the reaction at low momentum transfer and discuss the sensitivity of the helicity asymmetry to the strangeness radius and magnetic moment. The problems coming from the…
The formation of deuterons in heavy-ion collisions at relativistic energies is investigated by employing two recently advanced models -- the Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) method and the coalescence model by embedding them in the PHQMD and the UrQMD transport approaches. While the coalescence mechanism combines nucleons into deuterons at the kinetic freeze-out hypersurface, the MST identifies the clusters during the different stages of time evolution. We find that both clustering procedures give very similar results for the deuteron observables in the UrQMD as well as in the PHQMD environment. Mo…
We discuss a hybrid model of the proton and neutron inelastic structure functions which incorporates both the partonic and the nucleon resonance structures and applicable in a wide region of the invariant mass $W$ of produced hadronic states. Focusing at the typical kinematics of JLab experiments we compute the deuteron structure functions and demonstrate good performance of the model against data. We perform systematic study of the ratios $F_2^n/F_2^d$ and $(F_2^p+F_2^n)/F_2^d$ for both, the deep-inelastic and the resonance, region in the context of recent measurements of BoNuS experiment at …
We report the results of a new global QCD analysis, which includes deep-inelastic $e/μ$ scattering data off proton and deuterium, as well as Drell-Yan lepton pair production in proton-proton and proton-deuterium collisions and $W^\pm/Z$ boson production data from $pp$ and $p \bar p$ collisions at the LHC and Tevatron. Nuclear effects in the deuteron are treated in terms of a nuclear convolution approach with bound off-shell nucleons within a weak binding approximation. The off-shell correction is controlled by a universal function of the Bjorken variable $x$ describing the modification of part…
A clustering aspect is explained for the $^9$Be nucleus in charged-lepton deep inelastic scattering. Nuclear modifications of the structure function $F_2$ are studied by the ratio $R_{\rm EMC} = F_2^A /F_2^D$, where $A$ and $D$ are a nucleus and the deuteron, respectively. In a JLab experiment, an unexpectedly large nuclear modification slope $|dR_{\rm EMC}/dx|$ was found for $^9$Be, which could be related to its clustering structure. We investigated a mean conventional part of a nuclear structure function $F_2^A$ by a convolution description with nucleon momentum distributions calculated by a…
We report recent studies on structure functions of the nucleon and nuclei. First, clustering effects are investigated in the structure function F_2 of Be-9 for explaining an unusual nuclear correction found in a JLab experiment. We propose that high densities created by formation of clustering structure like 2*alpha+neutron in Be-9 is the origin of the unexpected JLab result by using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (AMD). There is an approved proposal at JLab to investigate the structure functions of light nuclei including the cluster structure, so that much details will become clear in…
The direct reaction theory widely used to study single-particle spectroscopic strength in nucleon transfer experiments is based on a Hamiltonian with two-nucleon interactions only. We point out that in reactions with a loosely-bound projectile, where clustering and breakup effects are important, an additional three-body force arises due to three-nucleon ($3N$) interaction between two nucleons belonging to different clusters in the projectile and a target nucleon. We study the effects of this force on nucleon transfer in $(d,p)$ and $(d,n)$ reactions on $^{56}$Ni, $^{48}$Ca, $^{26m}$Al and $^{2…
Local chiral effective field theory interactions have recently been developed and used in the context of quantum Monte Carlo few- and many-body methods for nuclear physics. In this work, we go over detailed features of local chiral nucleon-nucleon interactions and examine their effect on properties of the deuteron, paying special attention to the perturbativeness of the expansion. We then turn to three-nucleon interactions, focusing on operator ambiguities and their interplay with regulator effects. We then discuss the nuclear Green's function Monte Carlo method, going over both wave-function …
In order to study the nucleon-nucleon pairing effects in clustering nuclei, we formulate a superposed Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Roepke (THSR) wave function, which includes both molecular-orbit and pairing configurations explicitly. With this new wave function, we investigate the abnormal deuteron-like pn-pairing effect in 10B with T=0 and S=1 (isoscalar) by comparing with isovector NN pairs (T=1, S=1) in 10Be and 10C. Energies are calculated for the ground states of 10Be, 10B and 10C nuclei, and the 1+ excited state of 10B. These energies are essentially improved comparing with studies using pre…
The discovery of the proton-radius puzzle and the subsequent deuteron-radius puzzle is fueling an on-going debate on possible explanations for the difference in the observed radii obtained from muonic atoms and from electron-nucleus systems. Atomic nuclei have a complex internal structure that must be taken into account when analyzing experimental spectroscopic results. Ab initio nuclear structure theory provided the so far most precise estimates of important corrections to the Lamb shift in muonic atoms and is well poised to also investigate nuclear structure corrections to the hyperfine spli…
Structures of $p$- and $sd$-shell nuclei are studied with the deformed-basis antisymmetrized molecular dynamics method using the Gogny D1S and Skyrme SLy7 forces as effective interactions. By the energy variation with a constraint, energy curves as functions of quadrupole deformation parameter $β$ are obtained. The energy curves for $sd$-shell nuclei show structure change as a function of $β$, and suggest shape coexistence. Nuclear structures in the deformed region are discussed focusing on deformations and clustering. It is found that the deformations often involve cluster structures. Effecti…
The structures of the ground and excited states of Be-11 were studied with a microscopic method of antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. The theoretical results reproduce the abnormal parity of the ground state and predict various kinds of excited states. We suggest a new negative-parity band with a well-developed clustering structure which reaches high-spin states. Focusing on a $2α$ clustering structure, we investigated structure of the ground and excited states. We point out that molecular orbits play important roles for the intruder ground state and the low-lying $2\hbar ω$ states. The featu…
