In the $K$-user single-input single-output (SISO) frequency-selective fading interference channel, it is shown that the maximal achievable multiplexing gain is almost surely $K/2$ by using interference alignment (IA). However, when the signaling dimensions are limited, allocating all the resources to all users simultaneously is not optimal. So, a group based interference alignment (GIA) scheme is proposed, and it is formulated as an unbounded knapsack problem. Optimal and greedy search algorithms are proposed to obtain group patterns. Analysis and numerical results show that the GIA scheme can obtain a higher multiplexing gain when the resources are limited.
In this letter, we propose the interference cancellation through interference alignment at the downlink of cognitive cellular networks. Interference alignment helps the spatial resources to be shared among primary and secondary cells and thus, it can provide higher degrees of freedom through interference cancellation. We derive and depict the achievable degrees of freedom. We also analyse and calculate the achievable sum rates applying water-filling optimal power allocation.
Interference alignment in the K-user MIMO interference channel with constant channel coefficients is considered. A novel constructive method for finding the interference alignment solution is proposed for the case where the number of transmit antennas equals the number of receive antennas (NT = NR = N), the number of transmitter-receiver pairs equals K = N + 1, and all interference alignment multiplexing gains are one. The core of the method consists of solving an eigenvalue problem that incorporates the channel matrices of all interfering links. This procedure provides insight into the feasib…
In this paper, we propose low complexity opportunistic methods for interference alignment in $K$-transmitter MIMO interference channels by exploiting multiuser diversity. We do not assume availability of channel state information (CSI) at the transmitters. Receivers are required to feed back analog values indicating the extent to which the received interference subspaces are aligned. The proposed opportunistic interference alignment (OIA) achieves sum-rate comparable to conventional OIA schemes but with a significantly reduced computational complexity.
We propose new ergodic interference alignment techniques for $K$-user interference channels with delayed feedback. Two delayed feedback scenarios are considered -- delayed channel information at transmitter (CIT) and delayed output feedback. It is proved that the proposed techniques achieve total $2K/(K+2)$ DoF which is higher than that by the retrospective interference alignment for the delayed feedback scenarios.
Based on closed-form interference alignment (IA) solutions, a low overhead distributed interference alignment (LOIA) scheme is proposed in this paper for the $K$-user SISO interference channel, and extension to multiple antenna scenario is also considered. Compared with the iterative interference alignment (IIA) algorithm proposed by Gomadam et al., the overhead is greatly reduced. Simulation results show that the IIA algorithm is strictly suboptimal compared with our LOIA algorithm in the overhead-limited scenario.
An interference alignment example is constructed for the deterministic channel model of the $K$ user interference channel. The deterministic channel example is then translated into the Gaussian setting, creating the first known example of a fully connected Gaussian $K$ user interference network with single antenna nodes, real, non-zero and contant channel coefficients, and no propagation delays where the degrees of freedom outerbound is achieved. An analogy is drawn between the propagation delay based interference alignment examples and the deterministic channel model which also allows similar…
Recent results establish the optimality of interference alignment to approach the Shannon capacity of interference networks at high SNR. However, the extent to which interference can be aligned over a finite number of signalling dimensions remains unknown. Another important concern for interference alignment schemes is the requirement of global channel knowledge. In this work we provide examples of iterative algorithms that utilize the reciprocity of wireless networks to achieve interference alignment with only local channel knowledge at each node. These algorithms also provide numerical insig…
Interference alignment (IA) is a revolutionary wireless transmission strategy that reduces the impact of interference. The idea of interference alignment is to coordinate multiple transmitters so that their mutual interference aligns at the receivers, facilitating simple interference cancellation techniques. Since IA's inception, researchers have investigated its performance and proposed improvements, verifying IA's ability to achieve the maximum degrees of freedom (an approximation of sum capacity) in a variety of settings, developing algorithms for determining alignment solutions, and genera…
Determining the feasibility conditions for vector space interference alignment in the K-user MIMO interference channel with constant channel coefficients has attracted much recent attention yet remains unsolved. The main result of this paper is restricted to the symmetric square case where all transmitters and receivers have N antennas, and each user desires d transmit dimensions. We prove that alignment is possible if and only if the number of antennas satisfies N>= d(K+1)/2. We also show a necessary condition for feasibility of alignment with arbitrary system parameters. An algebraic geometr…
This paper looks into the $K$-user interference channel. Interference Alignment is much likely to be applied with double-layered symbol extensions, either for constant channels in the H$ø$st-Madsen-Nosratinia conjecture or slowly changing channels. In our work, the core idea relies on double-layered symbol extensions to artificially construct equivalent time-variant channels to provide crucial \textit{channel randomness or relativity} required by conventional Cadambe-Jafar scheme in time-variant channels \cite{IA-DOF-Kuser-Interference}.
Conditions are derived on line-of-sight channels to ensure the feasibility of interference alignment. The conditions involve choosing only the spacing between two subcarriers of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme. The maximal degrees-of-freedom are achieved and even an upper bound on the sum-rate of interference alignment is approached arbitrarily closely.
We study the three-user interference channel where each transmitter has local feedback of the signal from its targeted receiver. We show that in the important case where the channel coefficients are static, exact alignment can be achieved over two time slots using linear schemes. This is in contrast with the interference channel where no feedback is utilized, where it seems that either an infinite number of channel extensions or infinite precision is required for exact alignment. We also demonstrate, via simulations, that our scheme significantly outperforms time-sharing even at finite SNR.
We explore similarities and differences in recent works on blind interference alignment under different models such as staggered block fading model and the delayed CSIT model. In particular we explore the possibility of achieving interference alignment with delayed CSIT when the transmitters are distributed. Our main contribution is an interference alignment scheme, called retrospective interference alignment in this work, that is specialized to settings with distributed transmitters. With this scheme we show that the 2 user X channel with only delayed channel state information at the transmit…
This paper elaborates on the achievable schemes of interference alignment in constant channels via finite amplify-and-forward (AF) relays. Consider $K$ sources communicating with $K$ destinations without direct links besides the relay connections. The total number of relays is finite. The objective is to achieve interference alignment for all user pairs to obtain half of their interference-free degrees of freedom. In general, two strategies are employed: coding at the edge and coding in the middle, in which relays show different roles. The contributions are that two fundamental and critical el…
Interference Alignment (IA) is a transmission scheme which achieves 1/2 Degrees-of-Freedom (DoF) per transmit-antenna per user. The constraints imposed on the scheme are based on the linear receiver since conventional IA assumes Gaussian signaling. However, when the transmitters employ Finite Alphabet (FA) signaling, neither the conventional IA precoders nor the linear receiver are optimal structures. Therefore, a novel Fractional Interference Alignment (FIA) scheme is introduced when FA signals are used, where the alignment constraints are now based on the non-linear, minimum distance (MD) de…
Multi-user Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and Multiple Output Multiple Output (MIMO) have been widely adopted to enhance the system throughput and combat the detrimental effects of wireless channels. Recently, interference alignment was proposed to exploit interference to enable concurrent transmissions of multiple signals. In this paper, we investigate how to combine these techniques to further enhance the system throughput. We first reveal the unique characteristics and challenges brought about by using interference alignment in diagonal channels. We then derive a performa…
Interference alignment(IA) is mostly achieved by coding interference over multiple dimensions. Intuitively, the more interfering signals that need to be aligned, the larger the number of dimensions needed to align them. This dimensionality requirement poses a major challenge for IA in practical systems. This work evaluates the necessary and sufficient conditions on channel structure of a 3 user interference channel(IC) to make perfect IA feasible within limited number of channel extensions. It is shown that if only one of interfering channel coefficients can be designed to a specific value, in…
We explore degrees of freedom (DoF) characterizations of partially connected wireless networks, especially cellular networks, with no channel state information at the transmitters. Specifically, we introduce three fundamental elements --- aligned frequency reuse, wireless index coding and interference diversity --- through a series of examples, focusing first on infinite regular arrays, then on finite clusters with arbitrary connectivity and message sets, and finally on heterogeneous settings with asymmetric multiple antenna configurations. Aligned frequency reuse refers to the optimality of o…
Interference alignment (IA) adjusts signaling scheme such that all interfering signals are squeezed in interference subspace. IA mostly achieves its performance via infinite extension of the channel, which is a major challenge for IA in practical systems. In this paper, we make part of interference very strong and achieve perfect IA within limited number of channel extensions. A single-hop $3$ user single antenna interference channel (IFC) is considered and it is shown that only one of the interfering signal streams needs to be strong so that perfect IA is feasible.
Time Interference Alignment is a flavor of Interference Alignment that increases the network capacity by suitably staggering the transmission delays of the senders. In this work the analysis of the existing literature is generalized and the focus is on the computation of the dof for networks with randomly placed users in a n-dimensional Euclidean space. In the basic case without coordination among the transmitters analytical expressions of the sum dof can be derived. If the transmit delays are coordinated, in 20% of the cases time Interference Alignment yields additional dof with respect to or…
In this paper, we consider a robust lattice alignment design for K-user quasi-static MIMO interference channels with imperfect channel knowledge. With random Gaussian inputs, the conventional interference alignment (IA) method has the feasibility problem when the channel is quasi-static. On the other hand, structured lattices can create structured interference as opposed to the random interference caused by random Gaussian symbols. The structured interference space can be exploited to transmit the desired signals over the gaps. However, the existing alignment methods on the lattice codes for q…
An achievable rate region, based on lattice interference alignment, is derived for a class of time-invariant Gaussian interference channels with more than two users. The result is established via a new coding theorem for the two-user Gaussian multiple-access channel where both users use a single linear code. The class of interference channels treated is such that all interference channel gains are rational. For this class of interference channels, beyond recovering the known results on the degrees of freedom, an explicit rate region is derived for finite signal-to-noise ratios, shedding light …
We study vector space interference alignment for the MIMO interference channel with no time or frequency diversity, and no symbol extensions. We prove both necessary and sufficient conditions for alignment. In particular, we characterize the feasibility of alignment for the symmetric three-user channel where all users transmit along d dimensions, all transmitters have M antennas and all receivers have N antennas, as well as feasibility of alignment for the fully symmetric (M=N) channel with an arbitrary number of users. An implication of our results is that the total degrees of freedom availab…
This paper proposes the first known universal interference alignment scheme for general $(1\times{}1)^K$ interference networks, either Gaussian or deterministic, with only 2 symbol extension. While interference alignment is theoretically powerful to increase the total network throughput tremendously, no existing scheme can achieve the degree of freedom upper bound exactly with finite complexity. This paper starts with detailed analysis of the diagonality problem of naive symbol extension in small $(1\times1)^3$ networks, a technique widely regarded as necessary to achieve interference alignmen…
This paper considers the problem of network coding for multiple unicast connections in networks represented by directed acyclic graphs. The concept of interference alignment, traditionally used in interference networks, is extended to analyze the performance of linear network coding in this setup and to provide a systematic code design approach. It is shown that, for a broad class of three-source three-destination unicast networks, a rate corresponding to half the individual source-destination min-cut is achievable via alignment strategies.
Spatial interference alignment among a finite number of users is proposed as a technique to increase the probability of successful transmission in an interference limited clustered wireless ad hoc network. Using techniques from stochastic geometry, we build on the work of Ganti and Haenggi dealing with Poisson cluster processes with a fixed number of cluster points and provide a numerically integrable expression for the outage probability using an intra-cluster interference alignment strategy with multiplexing gain one. For a special network setting we derive a closed-form upper bound. We demo…
For the K user, single input single output (SISO), frequency selective interference channel, a new low complexity transmit beamforming design that improves the achievable sum rate is presented. Jointly employing the interference alignment (IA) scheme presented by Cadambe and Jafar in [1] and linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) decoding at the transmitters and receivers, respectively, the new IA precoding design improves the average sum rate while preserving the achievable degrees of freedom of the Cadambe and Jafar scheme, K/2.
An efficient interference alignment (IA) scheme is developed for $K$-user single-input single-output frequency selective fading interference channels. The main idea is to steer the transmit beamforming matrices such that at each receiver the subspace dimensions occupied by interference-free desired streams are asymptotically the same as those occupied by all interferences. Our proposed scheme achieves a higher multiplexing gain at any given number of channel realizations in comparison with the original IA scheme, which is known to achieve the optimal multiplexing gain asymptotically.
In this paper we consider strategies for MIMO interference channels which combine the notions of interference alignment and channel pre-inversion. Users collaborate to form data-sharing groups, enabling them to clear interference within a group, while interference alignment is employed to clear interference between groups. To improve the capacity of our schemes at finite SNR, we propose that the groups of users invert their subchannel using a regularized Tikhonov inverse. We provide a new sleeker derivation of the optimal Tikhonov parameter, and use random matrix theory to provide an explicit …
An interference management problem among multiple overlapped random access networks (RANs) is investigated, each of which operates with slotted ALOHA protocol. Assuming that access points and users have multiple antennas, a novel opportunistic interference alignment~(OIA) is proposed to mitigate interference among overlapped RANs. The proposed technique intelligently combines the transmit beamforming technique at the physical layer and the opportunistic packet transmission at the medium access control layer. The transmit beamforming is based on interference alignment and the opportunistic pack…
For a three-cell constant cellular interfering network, a new property of alignment is identified, i.e., interference alignment (IA) solution obtained in an user-cooperation scenario can also be applied in a non-cooperation environment. By using this property, an algorithm is proposed by jointly designing transmit and receive beamforming matrices. Analysis and numerical results show that more degree of freedom (DoF) can be achieved compared with conventional schemes in most cases.
We consider a constant $K$-user Gaussian interference channel with $M$ antennas at each transmitter and $N$ antennas at each receiver, denoted as a $(K,M,N)$ channel. Relying on a result on simultaneous Diophantine approximation, a real interference alignment scheme with joint receive antenna processing is developed. The scheme is used to provide new proofs for two previously known results, namely 1) the total degrees of freedom (DoF) of a $(K, N, N)$ channel is $NK/2$; and 2) the total DoF of a $(K, M, N)$ channel is at least $KMN/(M+N)$. We also derive the DoF region of the $(K,N,N)$ channel…
We study a new IA strategy which is referred to as "Partial Interference Cancelation-based Interference Alignment" (PIC-IA). Unlike the conventional IA strategy, PIC-IA does not strive to eliminate interference from all users. Instead, it aims to remove the most significant interference signals. This PIC-IA strategy generalizes the conventional IA concept by addressing partial, instead of complete, interference cancelation. The feasibility of this new strategy is studied in this paper. Our results show that for a symmetric, single-stream system with $N_t$ transmit antennas and $N_r$ receive an…
We explore 5 network communication problems where the possibility of interference alignment, and consequently the total number of degrees of freedom (DoF) with channel uncertainty at the transmitters are unknown. These problems share the common property that in each case the best known outer bounds are essentially robust to channel uncertainty and represent the outcome with interference alignment, but the best inner bounds -- in some cases conjectured to be optimal -- predict a total collapse of DoF, thus indicating the infeasibility of interference alignment under channel uncertainty at trans…
We propose a blind interference alignment (BIA) through staggered antenna switching scheme with no ideal channel assumption. Contrary to the ideal assumption that channels remain constant during BIA symbol extension period, when the coherence time of the channel is relatively short, channel coefficients may change during a given symbol extension period. To perform BIA perfectly with realistic channel assumption, we propose a grouping based supersymbol structure for $K$-user interference channels which can adjust a supersymbol length to given coherence time. It is proved that the supersymbol le…
A new precoding-based intersession network coding (NC) scheme has recently been proposed, which applies the interference alignment technique, originally devised for wireless interference channels, to the 3-unicast problem of directed acyclic networks. The main result of this work is a graph-theoretic characterization of the feasibility of the 3-unicast interference alignment scheme. To that end, we first investigate several key relationships between the point-to-point network channel gains and the underlying graph structure. Such relationships turn out to be critical when characterizing graph-…
In this letter, we present the first characterization for the achievable Degrees-of-Freedom (DoF) by Blind Interference Alignment (BIA) using staggered antenna switching in the $K$-user Gaussian Interference Channel. In such scheme, each transmitter is equipped with one conventional antenna and each receiver is equipped with one reconfigurable (multi-mode) antenna. Assuming that the channel is known to the receivers only, we show that BIA can achieve $\frac{2K}{K+2}$ DoF, which surpasses the sum DoF achieved by previously known interference alignment schemes with delayed channel state informat…
We consider interference alignment (IA) over K-user Gaussian MIMO interference channel (MIMO-IC) when the SNR is not asymptotically high. We introduce a generalization of IA which enables receive diversity inside the interference-free subspace. We generalize the existence criterion of an IA solution proposed by Yetis et al. to this case, thereby establishing a multi-user diversity-multiplexing trade-off (DMT) for the interference channel. Furthermore, we derive a closed-form tight lower-bound for the ergodic mutual information achievable using IA over a Gaussian MIMO-IC with Gaussian i.i.d. ch…
The degrees of freedom (DoF) of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Interference Broadcast Channel (IBC) with 2 cells and 2 users per cell are investigated when only delayed channel state information is available at the transmitter side (delayed CSIT). Retrospective Interference Alignment has shown the benefits in terms of DoF of exploiting delayed CSIT for interference, broadcast and also for the IBC. However, previous works studying the IBC with delayed CSIT do not exploit the fact that the users of each cell are served by a common transmitter. This work presents a four-phase precoding…
We consider a single hop wireless X network with $K$ transmitters and $J$ receivers, all with single antenna. Each transmitter conveys for each receiver an independent message. The channel is assumed to have constant coefficients. We develop interference alignment scheme for this setup and derived several achievable degrees of freedom regions. We show that in some cases, the derived region meets a previous outer bound and are hence the DoF region. For our achievability schemes, we divide each message into streams and use real interference alignment on the streams. Several previous results on t…
Regenerating codes based on the approach of interference alignment for wireless interference channel achieve the cut-set bound for distributed storage systems. These codes provide data reliability, and perform efficient exact node repair when some node fails. Interference alignment as a concept is especially important to improve the repair efficiency of a failed node in a minimum storage regenerating (MSR) code. In addition it can improve the stored data security in presence of passive intruders. In this paper we construct a new code resilient against a threat model where a passive eavesdroppe…
In this paper, we consider a Partial Interference Alignment and Interference Detection (PIAID) design for $K$-user quasi-static MIMO interference channels with discrete constellation inputs. Each transmitter has M antennas and transmits L independent data streams to the desired receiver with N receive antennas. We focus on the case where not all K-1 interfering transmitters can be aligned at every receiver. As a result, there will be residual interference at each receiver that cannot be aligned. Each receiver detects and cancels the residual interference based on the constellation map. However…
In this paper, we firstly exploit the inter-user interference (IUI) and inter-cell interference (ICI) as useful references to develop a robust transceiver design based on interference alignment for a downlink multi-user multi-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference network under channel estimation error. At transmitters, we propose a two-tier transmit beamforming strategy, we first achieve the inner beamforming direction and allocated power by minimizing the interference leakage as well as maximizing the system energy efficiency, respectively. Then, for the outer beamformer des…
Interference alignment (IA) has recently emerged as a promising interference mitigation technique for interference networks. In this letter, we focus on the IA non-iterative transceiver design problem in a multiple-input-multiple-output interfering broadcast channel (MIMO-IBC), and observed that there is previously unexploited flexibility in different permutations of user ordering. By choosing a good user ordering for a pre-determined IA inter-channel-interference allocation, an improved transceiver design can be accomplished. In order to achieve a more practical performance-complexity tradeof…
Our demo aims at proving the concept of a recent proposed interference management scheme that reduces the inter-cell interference in downlink without complex coordination, known as non-classic interference alignment (IA) scheme. We assume a case where one main Base Station (BS) needs to serve three users equipments (UE) while another BS is causing interference. The primary goal is to construct the alignment scheme ; i.e. each UE estimates the main and interfered channel coefficients, calculates the optimal interference free directions dropped by the interfering BS and feeds them back to the ma…
We consider a dense $K$ user Gaussian interference network formed by paired transmitters and receivers placed independently at random in a fixed spatial region. Under natural conditions on the node position distributions and signal attenuation, we prove convergence in probability of the average per-user capacity $\csum/K$ to $\half \ep \log(1 + 2 \SNR)$. The achievability result follows directly from results based on an interference alignment scheme presented in recent work of Nazer et al. Our main contribution comes through an upper bound, motivated by ideas of `bottleneck capacity' developed…
A limited feedback-based interference alignment (IA) scheme is proposed for the interfering multi-access channel (IMAC). By employing a novel performance-oriented quantization strategy, the proposed scheme is able to achieve the minimum overall residual inter-cell interference (ICI) with the optimized transceivers under limited feedback. Consequently, the scheme outperforms the existing counterparts in terms of system throughput. In addition, the proposed scheme can be implemented with flexible antenna configurations.
A constant K-user interference channel in which the users are not symbol-synchronous is considered. It is shown that the asynchronism among the users facilitates aligning interfering signals at each receiver node while it does not affect the total number of degrees of freedom (DoF) of the channel. To achieve the total K/2 DoF of the channel when single antenna nodes are used, a novel practical interference alignment scheme is proposed wherein the alignment task is performed with the help of asynchronous delays which inherently exist among the received signals at each receiver node. When each n…
Consider a MIMO interference channel whereby each transmitter and receiver are equipped with multiple antennas. The basic problem is to design optimal linear transceivers (or beamformers) that can maximize system throughput. The recent work [1] suggests that optimal beamformers should maximize the total degrees of freedom and achieve interference alignment in high SNR. In this paper we first consider the interference alignment problem in spatial domain and prove that the problem of maximizing the total degrees of freedom for a given MIMO interference channel is NP-hard. Furthermore, we show th…
We consider the problem of Cyclic Interference Alignment (IA) on the 3-user X-network and show that it is infeasible to exactly achieve the upper bound of $\frac{K^2}{2K-1}=\frac{9}{5}$ degrees of freedom for the lower bound of n=5 signalling dimensions and K=3 user-pairs. This infeasibility goes beyond the problem of common eigenvectors in invariant subspaces within spatial IA. In order to gain non-asymptotic feasibility with minimal intervention, we first investigate an alignment strategy that enables IA by feedforwarding a subset of messages with minimal rate. In a second step, we replace t…
In this paper, we analyze a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channel where nodes are randomly distributed on a plane as a spatial Poisson cluster point process. Each cluster uses interference alignment (IA) to suppress intra-cluster interference but unlike most work on IA, we do not neglect inter-cluster interference. We also connect the accuracy of channel state information to the distance between the nodes, i.e. the quality of CSI degrades with increasing distance. Accounting for the training and feedback overhead, we derive the transmission capacity of this MIMO IA ad hoc …
The degrees of freedom (DoF) of the 3-user multiple input multiple output interference channel (3-user MIMO IC) are investigated where there is delayed channel state information at the transmitters (dCSIT). We generalize the ideas of Maleki et al. about {\it Retrospective Interference Alignment (RIA)} to be applied to the MIMO IC, where transmitters and receivers are equipped with $(M,N)$ antennas, respectively. We propose a two-phase transmission scheme where the number of slots per phase and number of transmitted symbols are optimized by solving a maximization problem. Finally, we review the…
While interference alignment schemes have been employed to realize the full multiplexing gain of $K$-user interference channels, the analyses performed so far have predominantly focused on the case when global channel knowledge is available at each node of the network. This paper considers the problem where each receiver knows its channels from all the transmitters and feeds back this information using a limited number of bits to all other terminals. In particular, channel quantization over the composite Grassmann manifold is proposed and analyzed. It is shown, for $K$-user multiple-input, mul…
Co-channel interference (CCI) is a performance limiting factor in molecular communication (MC) systems with shared medium. Interference alignment (IA) is a promising scheme to mitigate CCI in traditional communication systems. Due to the signal-dependent noise in MC systems, the traditional IA schemes are less useful in MC systems. In this paper, we propose a novel IA scheme in molecular interference channels (IFCs), based on the choice of releasing/sampling times. To cancel the aligned interference signals and reduce the signal dependent noise, we use molecular reaction in the proposed IA sch…
We study the capacity of discrete memoryless many-to-one interference channels, i.e., K user interference channels where only one receiver faces interference. For a class of many-to-one interference channels, we identify a noisy interference regime, i.e., a regime where random coding and treating interference as noise achieves sum-capacity. Specializing our results to the Gaussian MIMO many-to-one interference channel, which is a special case of the class of channels considered, we obtain new capacity results. Firstly, we extend the noisy interference regime, previously studied for (many-to-on…
In this paper, we study the uplink of a cellular system using the linear deterministic approximation model, where there are two users transmitting to a receiver, mutually interfering with a third transmitter communicating with a second receiver. We give an achievable coding scheme and prove its optimality, i.e. characterize the capacity region. This scheme is a form of interference alignment which exploits the channel gain difference of the two-user cell.
We consider a dense n-user Gaussian interference network formed by paired transmitters and receivers placed independently at random in Euclidean space. Under natural conditions on the node position distributions and signal attenuation, we prove convergence in probability of the average per-user capacity C_Sigma/n to 1/2 E log(1 + 2SNR). The achievability result follows directly from results based on an interference alignment scheme presented in recent work of Nazer et al. Our main contribution comes through the converse result, motivated by ideas of `bottleneck links' developed in recent work …
We consider the problem of linear network coding over communication networks, representable by directed acyclic graphs, with multiple groupcast sessions: the network comprises of multiple destination nodes, each desiring messages from multiple sources. We adopt an interference alignment perspective, providing new insights into designing practical network coding schemes as well as the impact of network topology on the complexity of the alignment scheme. In particular, we show that under certain (polynomial-time checkable) constraints on networks with $K$ sources, it is possible to achieve a rat…
