The chiral edge channels in the quantum Hall regime are considered ideal ballistic quantum channels, and have quantum information processing potentialities. Here, we demonstrate experimentally, at filling factor 2, the efficient tuning of the energy relaxation that limits quantum coherence and permits the return toward equilibrium. Energy relaxation along an edge channel is controllably enhanced by increasing its transmission toward a floating ohmic contact, in quantitative agreement with predictions. Moreover, by forming a closed inner edge channel loop, we freeze energy exchanges in the outer channel. This result also elucidates the inelastic mechanisms at work at filling factor 2, informing us in particular that those within the outer edge channel are negligible.
The interplay between the confinement potential and electron-electron interactions causes reconstructions of Quantum Hall edges. We study the consequences of this edge reconstruction for the relaxation of hot electrons injected into integer quantum Hall edge states. In translationally invariant edges, the relaxation of hot electrons is governed by three-body collisions which are sensitive to the electron dispersion and thus to reconstruction effects. We show that the relaxation rates are significantly altered in different reconstruction scenarios.
We demonstrated a method to probe local electronic states and energy relaxation in quantum Hall edge states utilizing quantum point contacts. We evaluated relaxation lengths in two cases; first, with electron tunneling, and second, only with energy exchange without tunneling between edge states. The results were consistent with previous experiments and validated our method with quantum point contacts. We applied this method to measure the energy relaxation length around a hotspot in quantum Hall regimes and revealed the possible short-distance relaxation process to be the relaxation due to ene…
We study spin wave relaxation in quantum Hall ferromagnet regimes. Spin-orbit coupling is considered as a factor determining spin nonconservation, and external random potential as a cause of energy dissipation making spin-flip processes irreversible. We compare this relaxation mechanism with other relaxation channels existing in a quantum Hall ferromagnet.
Electron spin relaxation in a spin-polarized quantum Hall state is studied. Long spin relaxation times that are at least an order of magnitude longer than those measured in previous experiments were observed and explained within the spin-exciton relaxation formalism. Absence of any dependence of the spin relaxation time on the electron temperature and on the spin-exciton density, and specific dependence on the magnetic field indicate the definite relaxation mechanism -- spin-exciton annihilation mediated by spin-orbit coupling and smooth random potential.
A unified approach to decoherence and relaxation of energy resolved single electron excitations in Integer Quantum Hall edge channels is presented. Within the bosonization framework, relaxation and decoherence induced by interactions and capacitive coupling to an external linear circuit are computed. An explicit connexion with high frequency transport properties of a two terminal device formed by the edge channel on one side and the linear circuit on the other side is established.
We discuss the spin relaxation of a strongly correlated two-dimensional (2D) electron gas (2DEG) in the quantized Hall regime when the filling factor is close to an odd-integer. As the initial state we consider a coherent deviation of the spin system from the ${\bf B}$ direction and investigate a break-down of this Goldstone-mode state due to the spin-orbit (SO) coupling and smooth disorder. The spin relaxation (SR) process is considered in terms of annihilation transitions in the system of spin excitons (magnons).
Relaxation of collective plasmon inter-Landau-level excitation is determined by emission of LO-phonons or by Auger-like processes when this emission is suppressed off the magneto-phonon resonance conditions. The decay of "one-cyclotron" magneto-plasmons with wave-vectors near the roton minimum is studied under the condition of filling $ν=1$. Some features of this relaxation should be helpful for the experimental detection of the magneto-rotons in a strongly correlated 2D electron gas.
Spin relaxation in quantum Hall ferromagnet regimes is studied. As the initial non-equilibrium state, a coherent deviation of the spin system from the ${\vec B}$ direction is considered and the breakdown of this Goldstone-mode state due to hyperfine coupling to nuclei is analyzed. The relaxation occurring non-exponentially with time is studied in terms of annihilation processes in the "Goldstone condensate" formed by "zero spin excitons". The relaxation rate is calculated analytically even if the initial deviation is not small. This relaxation channel competes with the relaxation mechanisms du…
We study the influence of the phase relaxation process on Hall resistance and spin Hall current of a mesoscopic two-dimensional (2D) four-terminal Hall cross-bar with or without Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI) in a perpendicular uniform magnetic field. We find that the plateaus of the Hall resistance with even number of edge states can survive for very strong phase relaxation when the system size becomes much longer than the phase coherence length. On the other hand, the odd integer Hall resistance plateaus arising from the SOI are easily destroyed by the weak phase relaxation during the c…
We numerically investigate the second-order nonlinear Hall transport properties of a four-terminal system with time-reversal symmetry and broken inversion symmetry. Within the nonequilibrium Green's function formalism, the second-order nonlinear conductances are derived, where the internal Coulomb potential in response to external voltages is explicitly included to guarantee the gauge invariance. For the system with single mirror symmetry Mx, nonlinear Hall properties are only observable in the y direction and contributed solely from the second-order nonlinear effect. From the symmetry point o…
The influence of inelastic relaxation time on the intrinsic spin Hall effects in a disordered two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba interaction is studied, which clarifies the controversy of impurity effects in the system. We reveal that, due to the existence of inelastic scattering, the spin Hall conductivity does not vanish when the impurity concentration diminishes to zero no matter it is non-magnetically or magnetically disordered. The spin accumulation is evaluated by using the obtained spin Hall conductivity, and an alternate route is suggested to verify the intrinsic spin Hall effect…
The role of the relaxation due to the impurity scattering and/or the contacts to leads/electrodes are studied for the spin Hall effect (SHE). Relaxation is essential to attain the steady state and also to the spin accumulation, but has been considered to be harmful for the intrinsic SHE (ISHE). These issues are examined quantitatively on two types of 2D models, i.e., (a) Rashba model for $n$-type GaAs, and (b) Luttinger model for $p$-type GaAs. It is found that ISHE is robust against the realistic strength of the disorder producing the observable amount of the spin accumulation. Especially in …
We investigate interactions between electrons and nuclear spins by using the resistance (Rxx) peak which develops near filling factor n = 2/3 as a probe. By temporarily tuning n to a different value, ntemp, with a gate, the Rxx peak is shown to relax quickly on both sides of ntemp = 1. This is due to enhanced nuclear spin relaxation by Skyrmions, and demonstrates the dominant role of nuclear spin in the transport anomaly near n = 2/3. We also observe an additional enhancement in the nuclear spin relaxation around n = 1/2 and 3/2, which suggests a Fermi sea of partially-polarized composite ferm…
W. Apel and Yu.A. Bychkov have recently considered the spin relaxation in a 2D quantum Hall system for the filling factor close to unity [PRL v.82, 3324 (1999)]. The authors considered only one spin flip mechanism (direct spin-phonon coupling) among several possible spin-orbit related ones and came to the conclusion that the spin relaxation time due to this mechanism is quite short: around $10^{-10}$ s at B=10 T (for GaAs). This time is much shorter than the typical time ($10^{-5}$ s) obtained earlier by D. Frenkel while considering the spin relaxation of 2D electrons in a quantizing magnetic …
Studies of energy flow in quantum systems complement the information provided by common conductance measurements. The quantum limit of heat flow in one dimensional (1D) ballistic modes was predicted, and experimentally demonstrated, to have a universal value for bosons, fermions, and fractionally charged anyons. A fraction of this value is expected in non-abelian states. Nevertheless, open questions about energy relaxation along the propagation length in 1D modes remain. Here, we introduce a novel experimental setup that measures the energy relaxation in chiral 1D modes of the quantum Hall eff…
The one-dimensional, chiral edge channels of the quantum Hall effect are a promising platform in which to implement electron quantum optics experiments; however, Coulomb interactions between edge channels are a major source of decoherence and energy relaxation. It is therefore of large interest to understand the range and limitations of the simple quantum electron optics picture. Here we confirm experimentally for the first time the predicted relaxation and revival of electrons injected at finite energy into an edge channel. The observed decay of the injected electrons is reproduced theoretica…
A highly non-thermal electron distribution is generated when quantum Hall edge states originating from sources at different potentials meet at a quantum point contact. The relaxation of this distribution to a stationary form as a function of distance downstream from the contact has been observed in recent experiments [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 056803 (2010)]. Here we present an exact treatment of a minimal model for the system at filling factor ν=2, with results that account well for the observations.
In order to describe correctly the interplay of extrinsic and intrinsic spin-orbit mechanisms to the spin Hall effect, it is necessary to consider different sources of spin relaxation. We take into account the spin relaxation time $τ_{DP}$ due to the Dyakonov-Perel mechanism as well as the Elliot-Yafet spin-relaxation time $τ_s$ due to the spin-orbit scattering from impurities. The total spin Hall conductivity depends crucially on the ratio $τ_s /τ_{DP}$.
In contrast to the case of ordinary quantum Hall effect, the resistance of ballistic helical edge channels in typical quantum spin-Hall experiments is non-vanishing, additive and poorly quantized. Here we present a simple argument connecting this qualitative difference with a spin relaxation in the current/voltage leads in an experimentally relevant multi-terminal bar geometry. Both the finite lead resistance and the spin relaxation contribute to a non-vanishing four-terminal edge resistance, explaining poor quantization quality. We show that corrections to the four-terminal and two-terminal r…
We investigate the energy exchanges along an electronic quantum channel realized in the integer quantum Hall regime at filling factor $ν_L=2$. One of the two edge channels is driven out-of-equilibrium and the resulting electronic energy distribution is measured in the outer channel, after several propagation lengths $0.8~μ$m$\leq L\leq30~μ$m. Whereas there are no discernable energy transfers toward thermalized states, we find efficient energy redistribution between the two channels without particle exchanges. At long distances $L\geq10~μ$m, the measured energy distribution is a hot Fermi funct…
The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time T1 of the nu = 2 quantum Hall ferromagnet (QHF) formed in a gate-controlled InSb two-dimensional electron gas has been characterized using a pump-probe technique. In contrast to a long T1 of quantum Hall states around nu = 1 that possesses a Korringa-type temperature dependence, the temperature-independent short T1 of the nu = 2 QHF suggests the presence of low energy collective spin excitations in a domain wall. Furthermore, T1 of this ferromagnetic state is also found to be filling- and current-independent. The interpretation of these results as compa…
Quantum Hall edge channels at integer filling factor provide a unique test-bench to understand decoherence and relaxation of single electronic excitations in a ballistic quantum conductor. In this Letter, we obtain a full visualization of the decoherence scenario of energy (Landau) and time (Levitov) resolved single electron excitations at filling factor $ν=2$. We show that the Landau excitation exhibits a fast relaxation followed by spin-charge separation whereas the Levitov excitation only experiences spin-charge separation. We finally suggest to use Hong-Ou-Mandel type experiments to probe …
The ferromagnet-topological insulator-ferromagnet (FM-TI-FM) junction exhibits thermal and electrical quantum Hall effects. The generated Hall voltage and transverse temperature gradient can be controlled by the directions of magnetizations in the FM leads, which inspires the use of FM-TI-FM junctions as electrical and as heat switches in spintronic devices. Thermal and electrical Hall coefficients are calculated as functions of the magnetization directions in ferromagnets and the spin-relaxation time in TI. Both the Hall voltage and the transverse temperature gradient decrease but are not com…

Spin Hall effect, one of the cornerstones in spintronics refers to the emergence of an imbalance in the spin density transverse to a charge flow in a sample under voltage bias. This study points to a novel way for an ultrafast generation and tuning of a unidirectional nonlinear spin Hall current by means of subpicosecond laser pulses of optical vortices. When interacting with matter, the optical orbital angular momentum (OAM) carried by the vortex and quantified by its topological charge is transferred to the charge carriers. The residual spin-orbital coupling in the sample together with confi…
Auger relaxation in 2D strongly correlated electron gas can be represented as an Auger-like process for neutral magnetoplasmon excitations. The case of "dielectric" state with lack of free electrons (i.e. at integer filling $ν$) is considered. Really the Auger-like process is a coalescence of two magnetoplasmons which are converted into a single one of a different plasmon mode with zero 2D wave-vector. This event turns out to be energetically allowed for magnetoplasmons near their roton minima where the spectrum has the infinite density of states. As a result the additional possibility appears…
The understanding of the characteristics of a magnetic layer in a different environment is crucial for any spintronics application. Before practical applications, thorough scrutiny of such devices is compulsory. Here we study such a potential Hall device of MgO-capped Hf/GdFeCo bilayer (FeCo-rich) for magnetization relaxation around nucleation fields at different voltage probe line widths and dc sensing currents. The device is characterized by anomalous Hall measurements in transverse and longitudinal Hall geometries for two different probe widths A (5 micrometer) and B (1 micrometer). The coe…
We theoretically investigate the evolution of the peak height of an energy resolved electronic wave-packets ballistically propagating along integer quantum Hall edge channels at filling factor $ν=2$. This is ultimately related to the elastic scattering amplitude for the fermionic excitations evaluated at different injection energy. We investigate this quantity assuming a short range capacitive coupling between the edges. Moreover, we also take into account phenomenologically the possibility of energy dissipation towards additional degrees of freedom both linear and quadratic in the injection e…
We study the spin relaxation in an interacting two--dimensional electron gas in a strong magnetic field for the case that the electron density is close to filling just one Landau sub--level of one spin projection, i.e., for filling factor near one. Assuming the relaxation to be caused by scattering with phonons, we derive the kinetic equations for the electron's spin--density which replace the Bloch equations in our case. These equations are non--linear and their solution depends crucially on the filling factor and on the temperature of the phonon bath. In the limit of zero temperature and for…
We study the spin relaxation (SR) of a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in the quantized Hall regime and discuss the role of spatial inhomogeneity effects on the relaxation. The results are obtained for small filling factors ($ν\ll 1$) or when the filling factor is close to an integer. In either case SR times are essentially determined by a smooth random potential. For small $ν$ we predict a "magneto-confinement" resonance manifested in the enhancement of the SR rate when the Zeeman energy is close to the spacing of confinement sublevels in the low-energy wing of the disorder-broadened Land…
We investigate the time dependent thermal relaxation of a two-dimensional electron system in the fractional quantum Hall regime where ballistic phonons are used to heat up the system to a non-equilibrium temperature. The thermal relaxation of a 2DES at $ν=1/2$ can be described in terms of a broad band emission of phonons, with a temperature dependence proportional to $T^4$. In contrast, the relaxation at fractional filling $ν=2/3$ is characterized by phonon emission around a single energy, the magneto-roton gap. This leads to a strongly reduced energy relaxation rate compared to $ν=1/2$ with o…
We investigate theoretically the energy exchange between electrons of two co-propagating, out-of-equilibrium edge states with opposite spin polarization in the integer quantum Hall regime. A quantum dot tunnel-coupled to one of the edge states locally injects electrons at high energy. Thereby a narrow peak in the energy distribution is created at high energy above the Fermi level. A second downstream quantum dot performs an energy resolved measurement of the electronic distribution function. By varying the distance between the two dots, we are able to follow every step of the energy exchange a…
Cyclotron spin-flip excitation in a nu=2 quantum Hall system, being separated from the ground state by a slightly smaller gap than the cyclotron energy and from upper magnetoplasma excitation by the Coulomb gap [S. Dickmann and I.V. Kukushkin, Phys. Rev. B 71, 241310(R) (2005) ; L.V. Kulik, I.V. Kukushkin, S. Dickmann, V.E. Kirpichev, A.B. Vankov, A.L. Parakhonsky, J.H. Smet, K. von Klitzing, and W. Wegscheider, Phys. Rev. B 72, 073304 (2005)] cannot relax in a purely electronic way except only with the emission of a shortwave acoustic phonon (k~3*10^7/cm). As a result, relaxation in a modern …
Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard arrays provide unique opportunities for quantum emulation as they exhibit convenient state preparation and measurement, and in-situ tuning of parameters. We show how to realise strongly correlated states of light in Jaynes-Cummings-Hubbard arrays under the introduction of an effective magnetic field. The effective field is realised by dynamic tuning of the cavity resonances. We demonstrate the existence of Fractional Quantum Hall states by com- puting topological invariants, phase transitions between topologically distinct states, and Laughlin wavefunction overlap.
We propose an efficient spin filter including an antidot fabricated on semiconductor heterostructures with strong spin-orbit interaction. The antidot creates a tunable potential on two-dimensional electron gas in the heterostructures, which may be attractive as well as repulsive. Our idea is based on the enhancement of extrinsic spin Hall effect by resonant scattering when the attractive potential is properly tuned. Numerical studies for three- and four-terminal devices indicate that the efficiency of the spin filter can be more than 50% by tuning the potential to the resonant condition.
We report on the numerical study of the relaxation rates of nuclear spins coupled through the hyperfine interaction to a two dimensional electron gas (2DEG) at magnetic fields corresponding to both fractional and integral Landau level (LL) fillings nu. The Hamiltonians of up to 20 interacting electrons are diagonalized exactly in the spherical geometry, neglecting finite layer width, disorder, and LL mixing. The spectral functions tau^-1(E) describing response of the 2DEG to the reversal of an embedded localized spin are calculated. In a (locally) incompressible nu=1 or 1/3 state, the finite C…
Recent advances in quantum engineering have given us the ability to design hybrid systems with novel properties normally not present in the regime they operate in. The coupling of spin ensembles and magnons to microwave resonators has for instance lead to a much richer understanding of collective effects in these systems and their potential quantum applications. We can also hybridize electron and nuclear spin ensembles together in the solid-state regime to investigate collective effects normally only observed in the atomic, molecular and optical world. Here we explore in the solid state regime…
We systematically measure and analyze the spin diffusion length and the spin Hall effect in Pt with a wide range of conductivities using the spin absorption method in lateral spin valve devices. We observe a linear relation between the spin diffusion length and the conductivity, evidencing that the spin relaxation in Pt is governed by the Elliott-Yafet mechanism. We find a single intrinsic spin Hall conductivity ($σ_{SH}^{int}=1600\pm150\: Ω^{-1}cm^{-1}$) for Pt in the full range studied which is in good agreement with theory. For the first time we have obtained the crossover between the moder…
We investigate the electric field tuning of the phonon-assisted hole spin relaxation in single self-assembled In$_{1-x}$Ga$_{x}$As/GaAs quantum dots, using an atomistic empirical pseudopotential method. We find that the electric field along the growth direction can tune the hole spin relaxation time for more than one order of magnitude. The electric field can prolong or shorten the hole spin lifetime and the tuning shows an asymmetry in terms of the field direction. The asymmetry is more pronounced for the taller the dot. The results show that the electric field is an effective way to tune the…
We demonstrate that the Magnus force acting on magnetic skyrmions can be efficiently tuned via modulation of the spin-orbit interaction strength. We show that the skyrmion Hall effect, which is a direct consequence of the non-vanishing Magnus force on the magnetic structure can be suppressed in certain limits. Our calculations show that the emergent magnetic fields in the presence of spin-orbit coupling (SOC) renormalize the Lorentz force on itinerant electrons and thus influence the topological transport. In particular, we show that for a Néel-type skyrmion and Bloch-type antiskyrmion, the sk…
The Kirchhoff-Helmholtz principle of least heat dissipation is applied in order to derive the stationary state of the spin-Hall effect. Spin-accumulation due to spin-orbit interaction, spin-flip relaxation, and electrostatic interaction due to charge accumulation are treated on an equal footing. A nonlinear differential equation is derived, that describes both surface and bulk currents and spin-dependent chemical potentials. It is shown that if the ratio of the spin-flip relaxation length over the Debye-Fermi length is small, the stationary state is defined by a linear spin-accumulation potent…
We report on a class of quantum spin Hall insulators (QSHIs) in strained-layer InAs/GaInSb quantum wells, in which the bulk gaps are enhanced by up to five folds as compared to the binary InAs/GaSb QSHI. Remarkably, with consequently increasing edge velocity, the edge conductance at zero and applied magnetic fields manifests time reversal symmetry (TRS) -protected properties consistent with Z2 topological insulator. The InAs/GaInSb bilayers offer a much sought-after platform for future studies and applications of the QSHI.
Experiments on a nearly spin degenerate two-dimensional electron system reveals unusual hysteretic and relaxational transport in the fractional quantum Hall effect regime. The transition between the spin-polarized (with fill fraction $ν= 1/3$) and spin-unpolarized ($ν= 2/5$) states is accompanied by a complicated series of hysteresis loops reminiscent of a classical ferromagnet. In correlation with the hysteresis, magnetoresistance can either grow or decay logarithmically in time with remarkable persistence and does not saturate. In contrast to the established models of relaxation, the relaxat…
We provide a theoretical framework for the electric field control of the electron spin in systems with diffusive electron motion. The approach is valid in the experimentally important case where both intrinsic and extrinsic spin-orbit interaction in a two-dimensional electron gas are present simultaneously. Surprisingly, even when the extrinsic mechanism is the dominant driving force for spin Hall currents, the amplitude of the spin Hall conductivity may be considerably tuned by varying the intrinsic spin-orbit coupling via a gate voltage. Furthermore we provide an explanation of the experimen…
We probe quantum Hall effect in a tunable 1-D lateral superlattice (SL) in graphene created using electrostatic gates. Lack of equilibration is observed along edge states formed by electrostatic gates inside the superlattice. We create strong local electric field at the interface of regions of different charge densities. Crossed electric and magnetic fields modify the wavefunction of the Landau Levels (LLs) - a phenomenon unique to graphene. In the region of copropagating electrons and holes at the interface, the electric field is high enough to modify the Landau levels resulting in increased …
The theoretical formula for the entropy production rate in the presence of spin current is derived using the spin-dependent transport equation and thermodynamics. This theory is applicable regardless of the source of the spin current, for example, an electric field, a temperature gradient, or the Hall effect. It reproduces the result in a previous work on the dissipation formula when the relaxation time approximation is applied to the spin relaxation rate. By using the developed theory, it is found that the dissipation in spin Hall geometry has a contribution proportional to the square of the …
Galvanomagnetic effects in graphene Magnetoresistivity and Hole-effect were theoretically investigated for neutral and gated graphene. It is shown that in neutral graphene Hall-effect is totally absent. In gated, exactly monopolar graphene effect of magnetoresistivity vanishes; here Hall-constant does not involve any relaxation characteristic in contrast to result obtained for popular method of relaxation time approximation.
We present a composite fermion theory of tunneling into the edge of a compressible quantum Hall system. The tunneling conductance is non-ohmic, due to slow relaxation of electromagnetic and Chern-Simons field disturbances caused by the tunneling electron. Universal results are obtained in the limit of a large number of channels involved in the relaxation. The tunneling exponent is found to be a continuous function of the filling factor nu, with a a slope that is discontinuous at nu=1/2 in the limit of vanishing bulk resistivity rho_xx. When nu corresponds to a principal fractional quantized Ha…
The quantization of resistances in the quantum Hall effect and ballistic transport through quantum point contacts is compared with the quantization of the charge relaxation resistance of a coherent mesoscopic capacitor. While the former two require the existence of a perfectly transmitting channel, the charge relaxation resistance remains quantized for arbitrary backscattering. The quantum Hall effect and the quantum point contact require only local phase coherence. In contrast quantization of the charge relaxation resistance requires global phase coherence.
We report on the pressure evolution of the giant anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in the chiral antiferromagnet Mn$_3$Ge. The AHE originating from the non-vanishing Berry curvature in Mn$_3$Ge can be continuously tuned by application of hydrostatic pressure. At room temperature, the Hall signal changes sign as a function of pressure and vanishes completely at $p=1.53$ GPa. Even though the Hall conductivity changes sign upon increasing pressure, the room-temperature saturation value of 23 ${\rm Ω^{-1}cm^{-1}}$ at 2.85 GPa is remarkably high and comparable to the saturation value at ambient pressure …
We report on the GHz complex admittance of a chiral one dimensional ballistic conductor formed by edge states in the quantum Hall regime. The circuit consists of a wide Hall bar (the inductor L) in series with a tunable resistor (R) formed by a quantum point contact. Electron interactions between edges are screened by a pair of side gates. Conductance steps are observed on both real and imaginary parts of the admittance. Remarkably, the phase of the admittance is transmission-independent. This shows that the relaxation time of a chiral R-L circuit is resistance independent. A current and charg…
The kagome lattice antiferromagnets Mn$_3$X(= Sn, Ge) have a noncollinear 120$^\circ$ ordered ground state, which engenders a strong anomalous Hall response. It has been shown that this response is linked to the magnetic order and can be manipulated through it. Here we use a combination of strain and spin-transfer torques to control the magnetic order and hence switch deterministically between states of different chirality. Each of these chiral ground states has an anomalous Hall conductivity tensor in a different direction. Furthermore, we show that a similar manipulation of the strained samp…
We analyze the electric field driven topological field effect transition on 2D-xene materials with the addition of momentum relaxation effects, in order to account for dephasing processes. The topological field effect transition between the quantum spin Hall phase and the quantum valley Hall phase is analyzed in detail using the Keldysh non-equilibrium Green's function technique with the inclusion of momentum and phase relaxation, within the self-consistent Born approximation. Details of the transition with applied electric field are elucidated for the ON-OFF characteristics with emphasis on t…
