We calculate the Wigner quasiprobability distribution function of quantum elliptical vortex in elliptical beam (EEV), produced by coupling squeezed coherent states of two modes. The coupling between the two modes is performed by using beam splitter (BS) or a dual channel directional coupler (DCDC). The quantum interference due to the coupling between the two modes promises the generation of controlled entanglement for quantum computation and quantum tomography.
The negativity of the Wigner function is discussed as a measure of the non classicality and the quantum interference pattern obtained therein as a possible measure of the entanglement between the two modes of the vortex states. This measure of entanglement is compared with the results obtained from concurrence.
We calculate the Wigner (quasi)probability distribution function of the quantum optical elliptical vortex (QEV), generated by coupling squeezed vacuum states of two modes. The coupling between the two modes is performed by using beam splitter (BS) or a dual channel directional coupler (DCDC). The quantum interference due to the coupling between the two modes promises the generation of controlled entanglement for quantum computation and quantum tomography. We compute the entanglement of such QEV formed by non-classical radiation field, using Wigner function. We report a critical squeezing param…
We derive a relatively simple and Lorentz-invariant expression for a Wigner function of a paraxial vortex electron described as a Laguerre-Gaussian wave packet.
We consider reflection and transmission of 2D quantum wavepackets with phase vortices (also known in optics as spatiotemporal vortex pulses) at potential step-like, delta-function, and rectangular barriers. The presence of a vortex significantly modifies the Wigner time delays and Goos-Hänchen shifts, previously studied for Gaussian-like wavepackets. In particular, the scattered wavepackets undergo non-zero time delays and lateral shifts even for purely real scattering coefficients, when the standard Wigner and Artmann formulae vanish. We derive analytical expressions for the vortex-induced ti…
We study the quadrature uncertainty of the quantum elliptical vortex state using the associated Wigner function. Deviations from the minimum uncertainty states were observed due to the absence of the Gaussian nature. In our study of the entropy, we noticed that with increasing vorticity, entropy increases for both the modes. We further observed that, there exists an optimum value of ellipticity which gives rise to maximum entanglement of the two modes of the quantum elliptical vortex states. A further increase in ellipticity reduces the entropy thereby resulting in a loss of information carryi…
We calculate the entanglement of a generalized elliptical vortex formed by quantized radiation field, using Wigner quasiprobability distribution function for such states. We find a critical squeezing parameter above which the entanglement is less for higher vorticity, which is counter intuitive.
We propose a reconstruction of vortex beams based on the implementation of quadratic transformations in the orbital angular momentum. The information is encoded in a superposition of Bessel-like nondiffracting beams. The measurement of the angular probability distribution at different positions allows for the reconstruction of the Wigner function.
In this article we introduce a novel quantum state, the perfect quantum optical vortex state which exhibits a highly localised distribution along a ring in the quadrature space. We examine its nonclassical properties using the Wigner function and the negativity volume. Such a quantum state can be a useful resource for quantum information processing and communication.
We investigate the real-time evolution of lattice bosons in two spatial dimensions whose dynamics is governed by a Markovian quantum master equation. We employ the Wigner-Weyl phase space quantization and derive the functional integral for open quantum many-body systems that governs the time evolution of the Wigner function. Using the truncated Wigner approximation, in which quantum fluctuations are only taken into account in the initial state whereas the dynamics is governed by classical evolution equations, we study the buildup of long-range correlations due to the action of non-Hermitean qu…
We study the entanglement evolution of a quantum optical vortex state propagating through coupled lossless waveguides. We consider states generated by coupling two squeezed modes using a sequence of beam splitters and also by subtracting photons from the signal in spontaneous parametric down conversion. We reconstruct the Wigner function at a later time to study the correlation and quantify the entanglement after propagation using \emph{logarithmic negativity}.
Optical beams with topological singularities have a Schmidt decomposition. Hence, they display features typically associated with bipartite quantum systems; in particular, these classical beams can exhibit entanglement. This classical entanglement can be quantified by a Bell inequality formulated in terms of Wigner functions. We experimentally demonstrate the violation of this inequality for Laguerre-Gauss (LG) beams and confirm that the violation increases with increasing orbital angular momentum. Our measurements yield negativity of the Wigner function at the origin for $\LG_{10}$ beams, whe…
Using linear invariant operators in a constructive way we find the most general thermal density operator and Wigner function for time-dependent generalized oscillators. The general Wigner function has five free parameters and describes the thermal Wigner function about a classical trajectory in phase space. The contour of the Wigner function depicts an elliptical orbit with a constant area moving about the classical trajectory, whose eccentricity determines the squeezing of the initial vacuum.
We propose a complete tomographic reconstruction of any vortex state carrying orbital angular momentum. The scheme determines the angular probability distribution of the state at different times under free evolution. To represent the quantum state we introduce a bona fide Wigner function defined on the discrete cylinder, which is the natural phase space for the pair angle-angular momentum. The feasibility of the proposal is addressed.
Given a real-valued phase-space function, it is a nontrivial task to determine whether it corresponds to a Wigner distribution for a physically acceptable quantum state. This topic has been of fundamental interest for long, and in a modern application, it can be related to the problem of entanglement detection for multi-mode cases. In this paper, we present a hierarchy of complete conditions for a physically realizable Wigner distribution. Our derivation is based on the normally-ordered expansion, in terms of annihilation andcreation operators, of the quasi-density operator corresponding to th…
We study the production of entangled two- and N-mode quantum states of light in optical waveguides. To this end, we propose a quantum photonic circuit that produces a reconfigurable superposition of photon subtraction on two single-mode squeezed states. Under postselection, continuous variable or discrete variable entangled states with possibilities in quantum information processing are obtained. Likewise, nesting leads to higher-dimension entanglement with a similar design, enabling the generation of non-Gaussian continuous variable cluster states. Additionally, we show the operation of the d…
In this article we present a quantum theoretical framework of photons entangled in higher order modes like Ince-Gauss modes. Ince-Gauss modes are the natural solution of the quantum harmonic oscillator in elliptical coordinates. These modes are defined by an additional quantum number, the ellipticity parameter which is expected to play a major role in continuous variable quantum key distribution protocols. Although such quantum states have been realized in experiments but a proper theoretical framework has been missing. We aim to address this shortcoming with our article.
The dynamics of two-component Bose-Einstein condensates in rotating traps is investigated. In the Thomas-Fermi limit, equations of motion are derived showing multiple static solutions for a vortex free condensate. Dynamic stability analysis of these solutions and comparison with Truncated Wigner simulations enables us to identify the regimes for which vortex states will occur. In addition, our analysis predicts centre-of-mass oscillations that are induced by interspecies interactions and affect each component separately. For attractive interspecies interactions, these oscillations lead to a st…
We study the dynamics of the relative phase of a bilayer of two-dimensional superfluids after the two superfluids have been decoupled. We find that on short time scales the relative phase shows "light cone" like dynamics and creates a metastable superfluid state, which can be supercritical. We also demonstrate similar light cone dynamics for the transverse field Ising model. On longer time scales the supercritical state relaxes to a disordered state due to dynamical vortex unbinding. This scenario of dynamically suppressed vortex proliferation constitutes a reverse-Kibble-Zurek effect. We stud…
A general problem of $2\rightarrow N_f$ scattering is addressed with all the states being wave packets with arbitrary phases. Depending on these phases, one deals with coherent states in $(3+1)$ D, vortex particles with orbital angular momentum, the Airy beams, and their generalizations. A method is developed in which a number of events represents a functional of the Wigner functions of such states. Using width of a packet $σ_p/\langle p\rangle$ as a small parameter, the Wigner functions, the number of events, and a cross section are represented as power series in this parameter, the first non…
It was recently found that the Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) correction to the mean-field Hamiltonian suppresses the collapse and creates stable localized modes (two-component "quantum droplets", QDs) in two and three dimensions. We construct two-dimensional\ self-trapped modes in the form of QDs with vorticity $S$ embedded into each component. The QDs feature a flat-top shape, which expands with the increase of $S$ and norm $N$. An essential finding, produced by a systematic numerical analysis and analytical estimates, is that the vortical QDs are \emph{stable} (which is a critical issue for vortex so…
