We study an SU(3)^2 axigluon model introduced by Frampton, Shu, and Wang to explain the recent Fermilab Tevatron observation of a significant positive enhancement in the top quark forward-backward asymmetry relative to standard model predictions. First, we demonstrate that data on neutral B_d-meson mixing excludes the region of model parameter space where the top asymmetry is predicted to be the largest. Keeping the gauge couplings below the critical value that would lead to fermion condensation imposes further limits at large axigluon mass, while precision electroweak constraints on the model are relatively mild. Furthermore, by considering an extension to an SU(3)^3 color group, we demonstrate that embedding the model in an extra-dimensional framework can only dilute the axigluon effect on the forward-backward asymmetry. We conclude that axigluon models are unlikely to be the source of the observed top quark asymmetry.
We propose an axigluon with mass between 400 and 450 GeV and flavor universal couplings to quarks to explain the Tevatron t-tbar forward-backward asymmetry. The model predicts a small negative asymmetry for t-tbar pairs with invariant mass below 450 GeV and a large positive asymmetry above 450 GeV. The asymmetry arises from interference between s-channel gluon and axigluon diagrams and requires a relatively weakly coupled axigluon ($g_{a} = g_{qcd}/3$). Axigluon-gluon interference does not contribute to the t-tbar cross section. New contributions to the cross section arise only at fourth order…
A flavor-nonuniversal chiral color model is introduced. It is used for comparison to the recent data on $\bar{p} p \to \bar{t} t$. We concluded that the data are consistent with interpretation as an axigluon exchange within 1$σ$ and a unique rise and fall behavior is predicated with regard to the asymmetry $A^t_{FB}$ as a function of $t \bar{t}$ invariant mass, which can distinguish our model from others before one discovers the axigluon resonance. Further aspects of the model are discussed.
The ttbar asymmetry measured at the Tevatron continues to disagree with Standard Model predictions at the 3 sigma level. We update the status of the phenomenological light axigluon model in explaining the asymmetry data, taking into account constraints from the charge asymmetry at the LHC and the ttbar cross section at both Tevatron and LHC. We find that an axigluon with a mass between 100 and 400 GeV provides an excellent fit to the data. Recent searches by ATLAS and CMS for pair production of heavy resonances which decay to dijets rule out axigluons with large branching fractions to dijets. …
We show that very light (50 - 90 GeV) axigluons with flavor-universal couplings of order g_{s}/3 may explain the anomalous top forward-backward asymmetry reported by both CDF and D0 collaborations. The model is naturally consistent with the observed t \bar t invariant mass distribution and evades bounds from light Higgs searches, LEP event shapes, and hadronic observables at the Z pole. Very light axigluons can appear as resonances in multijet events, but searches require sensitivity to masses below current limits.
Axigluons are colored heavy neutral gauge boson that couple to quarks through an axial vector current and the same strong coupling as gluons. The most important model-independent manifestation of axigluons is the generation of a forward--backward asymmetry in top-antitop quark production at $p\bar{p}$ collisions which originates from the charge asymmetry. We update our previous analysis for the inclusive QCD induced forward--backward asymmetry and define a new observable which is more sensitive to the effect than the forward--backward asymmetry. Furthermore, we find a lower limit of 1.2 TeV at…
We investigate the discovery potential of light color-octet bosons in the mass range of 100 - 400 GeV in exclusive top-pair plus jet production at the LHC. We study the impact of such bosons on the incline, the energy and the rapidity asymmetries. We show that light axigluons with large couplings to quarks can be discovered at the LHC with a luminosity of a few inverse fb. Almost all of the considered axigluon parameter space can be probed using the already available 2011/2012 LHC data. In a small-coupling scenario, axigluons could be discovered using the charge asymmetry with 65 inverse fb at…
A non-universal axigluon in generalized chiral color models leads to flavor changing neutral currents (FCNCs) at tree level. We analyze phenomenologically the new contributions to $B_{q}$ (q=d, s) mixing and the related CP asymmetries (CPAs) that are generated by axigluon exchange. We find that although $Δm_{B_q}$ can give a strict constraint on the parameters of $b\to q$ transition, the precise measurement of $\sin2β_{J/ΨK^0}$ can further exclude the parameter space of $b\to d$ transition. The axigluon-mediated effects can enhance the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry ${\cal A}^{b}_{s\ell}$ b…
Very recently, it has been shown by other authors that the CDF measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry can be explained by means of a heavy and broad axigluon. In order to work, this mechanism needs that the axigluon coupling to the top quark must be different than the coupling to light quarks and both must be stronger than the one predicted in classical axigluon models. In this paper, we argue that this kind of axigluon can be accommodated in an extended chiral color model we proposed previously. Additionally, we show that the desired features can be derived from a simple four…
The light axigluon model of Tavares and Schmaltz is a viable candidate to explain the Tevatron t-tbar forward-backward asymmetry. In this paper we present the forward-backward asymmetries for b-bbar and c-cbar systems predicted by the light axigluon. Furthermore, we modify this model to include flavor changing couplings of axigluons with the SM quarks. We constrain these couplings from the available neutral meson mixing data, and investigate their effects on the rare decay B^0_s -> mu^+ mu^-, CP violating D -> h^+ h^- and isospin violating B -> K^(*) mu^+ mu^- decays. We show that a light axig…
Axigluons are colored heavy neutral gauge boson that are predicted by some theories. We find a lower limit of 1.4 TeV at 90% C.L. on the axigluon mass from recent measurements of the asymmet…
The top forward-backward asymmetry (tAFB) measured at the Tevatron remains one of the most puzzling outstanding collider anomalies. After two years of LHC running, however, few models for tAFB remain consistent with LHC data. In this paper we take a detailed look at the most promising surviving class of models, namely light (m_G' <~ 450 GeV), broad axigluons. We show which models simultaneously satisfy constraints from Tevatron and LHC top measurements, hadronic resonance searches, and LEP precision electroweak (PEW) observables. We consider three flavor structures: flavor-universal; down-type…
The light axigluon model can explain the Tevatron $t\overline{t}$ forward-backward asymmetry and at the same time satisfy the constraints from the electroweak precision measurement and the $ATLAS$ and $CMS$ data, which induces the flavor changing ($FC$) couplings of axigluon with the $SM$ and new quarks. We investigate the effects of these $FC$ couplings on the s- and t-channel single top productions at the $LHC$ and the $FC$ decays $Z\rightarrow \overline{b}s+b\overline{s}$, $t\rightarrow cγ$ and $cg$. Our numerical results show that the light axigluon can give significantly contributions to …
The CDF and D0 collaborations have observed a forward-backward asymmetry in t-tbar production at large invariant mass in excess of the standard model prediction. One explanation involves a heavy color octet particle with axial vector couplings to quarks (an axigluon). We describe and contrast various aspects of axigluons obtained from the breaking of a chiral SU(3)_L x SU(3)_R gauge theory both from the standpoint of a string-inspired field theory and from a quiver analysis of a local type IIa intersecting brane construction. Special attention is paid to the additional constraints and issues t…
The contribution of axigluons (the massive color-octet gauge bosons in all chiral color models) to top quark pair production in hadronic collisions is considered. The agreement between the experimental values of the ttbar production cross-section at the TEVATRON and recent QCD predictions is used to discuss limits on the axigluon mass. Specifically, intermediate mass axigluons, those in the mass range 50 GeV < M_A < 120 GeV which has not already been excluded, would increase the tree-level qqbar -> ttbar cross-section by a factor of >= 2, thereby increasing the theoretical predictions for sigma…
CDF has observed a top forward-backward asymmetry discrepant with the Standard Model prediction at 3.4 σ. We analyze models that could generate the asymmetry, including flavor-violating W's, horizontal Z'_Hs, triplet and sextet diquarks, and axigluons. We consider the detailed predictions of these models for the invariant mass and rapidity distributions of the asymmetry at the parton level, comparing against the unfolded parton-level CDF results. While all models can reproduce the asymmetry with the appropriate choice of mass and couplings, it appears at first examination that the extracted pa…
We perform a comprehensive study of the allowed range for the Tevatron t tbar forward-backward asymmetries in six representative new physics models: a flavour-changing Z' boson, a scalar isodoublet, a W' boson, a heavy axigluon, a colour-triplet and a colour-sextet scalar. We devote special attention to the constraints from the t tbar tail at LHC on the parameter space, which will be dramatic if the measurements agree with the SM prediction, specially for Z' and W' bosons. We also study the predictions for the charge asymmetries at LHC and compare several proposed definitions.
The forward-backward asymmetry in top pair production at the Tevatron has long been in tension with the Standard Model prediction. One of the only viable new physics scenarios capable of explaining this anomaly is an s-channel axigluon-like resonance, with the quantum numbers of the gluon but with significant axial couplings to quarks. While such a resonance can lead to a clear bump or excess in the ttbar or dijet mass spectra, it may also simply be too broad to cleanly observe. Here, we point out that broad ttbar resonances generally lead to net top and antitop polarizations transverse to the…
Extensions of the Standard Model often predict new chiral interactions for top quark, which will contribute to top quark spin correlation and polarization in $t\bar{t}$ production at the LHC. In this work, under the constraints from the current Tevatron measurements, a comparative study of the spin correlation and polarization is performed in three new physics models: the minimal supersymmetric model without R-parity (RPV-MSSM), the third-generation enhanced left-right model and the axigluon model. We find that the polarization asymmetry may be enhanced to the accessible level in all these mod…
Copious production of top-antitop quark pairs at hadron colliders has enabled various probes into the properties and interactions of top quarks. Among the various presently measured observables, the forward-backward asymmetry (FBA) in t tbar production measured at the Tevatron significantly deviates from the standard model predictions, and many models of new physics have been invented to explain the puzzle. We consider the consistency of the simplified single-resonance models containing a color octet axial-vector ("axigluon"), color triplet or sextet weak singlet scalars, weak isodoublet scala…
The top forward-backward asymmetry (FBA) observed at the Tevatron has been a hot issue in particle physics for the last few years. In this talk, I describe two different approaches for the top FBA at the Tevatron, one in effective field theory (EFT) approach and the other in explicit model for $Z'$. Within the first approach, I identify a class of models which can accommodate the top FBA when new physics scale is very heavy. Axigluon or $t$-channel scalar exchanges with flavor dependent couplings can do the job. In the second approach, I show that the chiral couplings of $Z'$ necessarily invit…
In this note, we consider possible constraints from $t \bar t$ production on the gauge bosons of theories with an extended strong interaction sector such as axigluons or flavour universal colorons. Such constraints are found to be competitive with those obtained from the dijet data. The current $t \bar t$ data from the Tevatron rule out axigluon masses ($m_A$) up to 900 GeV and 850 GeV at 2 $σ$ and 4 $σ$ levels respectively. For the case of flavour universal colorons the data rule out a mass ($m_C$) below 800 GeV (780 GeV) at the $2 (4) σ$ level and also the mass range between 900 GeV to 2.1 T…
We examine the implications of the recent CDF measurement of the top-quark forward-backward asymmetry, focusing on a scenario with a new color octet vector boson at 1-3 TeV. We study several models, as well as a general effective field theory, and determine the parameter space which provides the best simultaneous fit to the CDF asymmetry, the Tevatron top pair production cross section, and the exclusion regions from LHC dijet resonance and contact interaction searches. Flavor constraints on these models are more subtle and less severe than the literature indicates. We find a large region of al…
Recently the CDF and the D0 Collaborations presented the data on the top forward-backward (FB) asymmetry A_FB as functions of M_(t t^bar) and Δy = y_t - y_t^bar. We study these observables in the effective Lagrangian approach with dimension-6 q q^bar t t^bar contact interactions, and compare with the CDF and D0 data. When we stay within the validity region of the effective Lagrangian approach, the mass dependent top FB asymmetry turns out to be smaller than the CDF data, more than 2-sigma away. If this discrepancy remains in the future data with better statistics, it would imply that the effec…
The electroweak contributions to the forward-backward asymmetry in the production of top-quark pairs at the Tevatron are evaluated at O(alpha^2) and O(alpha*alphas^2). We perform a detailed analysis of all partonic channels that produce an asymmetry and combine them with the QCD contributions. They provide a non-negligible fraction of the QCD-induced asymmetry with the same overall sign, thus enlarging the Standard Model prediction and diminishing the observed deviation. For the observed mass-dependent forward-backward asymmetry a 3-sigma deviation still remains at an invariant-mass cut of M_(…
We propose a charged, electrically neutral, and flavour changing Z' model to conciliate the apparent disagreement between the important excess found in the top-antitop Tevatron forward-backward asymmetry and the null -compatible with negative- results found in the LHC charge asymmetry. We show that this model contributes positively to the forward-backward asymmetry, whereas naturally a new cancellation is turned on at the LHC, yielding a null, or even negative, charge asymmetry. We found the region in parameter space that is simultaneously allowed by the stringent Tevatron and LHC observables.…
Measurements of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry performed at the Tevatron suggest that new-physics may be playing a role in t-tbar production. To better understand the source of the asymmetry, recent proposals have called for a measurement of the bottom and charm forward-backward asymmetries at the Tevatron, using jets with embedded muons. Here we propose a corresponding measurement of the bottom quark forward-central asymmetry designed to look for similar effects in the b-sector at ATLAS and CMS. We construct a set of cuts designed to enhance sensitivity to this asymmetry, and test o…
Both D0 and CDF at Tevatron reported the measurements of forward-backward asymmetry in top pair production, which showed possible deviation from the standard model QCD prediction. In this paper, we explore how to examine the {\em same} higher-order QCD effects at the more powerful Large Hadron Collider.
I present results for the top quark rapidity distribution at LHC and Tevatron energies, including higher-order corrections from threshold resummation. The next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) soft-gluon corrections at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithm (NNLL) level are added to the NLO result. Theoretical predictions are shown for the rapidity distribution, including the scale dependence of the distributions. The forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron is also calculated.
The dijet signature at the LHC is studied in new physics models for the top forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron. In the t-mediator models, flavor-changing interactions contribute to the dijet production cross section as well as the asymmetry at least at the one-loop level. It is found that the LHC dijet measurements at 36pb^(-1) have constrained the Z' coupling larger than 2.5-3. The sensitivity is expected to be improved significantly as the integrated luminosity increases in the LHC.
We report on a complete calculation of electroweak production of top quark pairs in $e^+e^-$ annihilation at next-to-next-to-leading order in Quantum Chromodynamics. Our setup is fully differential and can be used to calculate any infrared-safe observable. Especially we calculated the next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to top-quark forward-backward asymmetry and found sizable effects. Our results show a large reduction of the theoretical uncertainties in predictions of the forward-backward asymmetry, and allow a precision determination of the top quark electroweak couplings at future $e…
The Standard Model (SM) prediction of the top quark forward backward asymmetry is shown to be slightly enhanced by a correction factor of 1.05 due to electroweak Sudakov (EWS) logarithms of the form (α/sin^2 θ_W)^n log^{m< 2n} (s/M_{W,Z}^2). The EWS effect on the dijet and t \bar{t} invariant mass spectra is significant, reducing the SM prediction by ~20, 10 % respectively for the highest invariant masses measured at the LHC, and changing the shape of the high-mass tail of the spectrum. These corrections significantly affect measurements of the top quark invariant mass spectrum and the search …
We study the invariant mass and rapidity dependent top quark forward-backward asymmetry from the effective Lagrangian viewpoint. The Wilson coefficients are constrained by the experimental observations and the concrete models that reproduce the low energy effective Lagaragians are considered. Some of them are disfavored and others relatively favored. For each cases, we estimate the appropriacy of the effective Lagrangian approach.
The forward-backward asymmetry measurement in top-pair production at the Tevatron is about $2σ$ from the Standard Model prediction. We propose an asymmetric left-right model, which includes a $W'$ boson with a right-handed coupling of down to top quark, and a $Z'$ boson with diagonal couplings to the up, top, and down quarks with $M_{W'}\approx175$ GeV and $M_{Z'}\approx 900$ GeV. The model accounts for the asymmetry while remaining consistent with the top-pair total cross-section and invariant mass distribution.
We consider the recent measurement of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Fermilab Tevatron, which shows a discrepancy of slightly more than 2$σ$ compared to the SM prediction. We find that $t$-channel exchange of a color sextet or triplet scalar particle can explain the measurement, while leaving the cross section for $t \bar{t}$ production within measured uncertainties. Such particles have good discovery prospects by study of the kinematic structure of $t \bar{t}$+jets at the LHC.
The measurement of the top forward-backward asymmetry in $\ttbar$ production measured at the Tevatron shows deviation from the Standard Model prediction. A $ u \to t$ transition via a flavor changing $Z^{\prime}$ can explain the data. We show that left handed $t_Lu_LZ^{\prime}$ couplings can be constrained from $B_{d,s}$ mixing while the constrains on the right handed couplings $t_R u_R Z^{\prime}$ vanish in the limit of $m_u \to 0$. We then consider the most general form of the $t uZ^{\prime}$ interaction which includes vector-axial vector as well as tensor type couplings and study how these …
We show that the forward-backward asymmetry in top quark pair production can be enhanced by fields that transform nontrivially under the flavour group and satisfy Minimal Flavour Violation, while at the same time the constraints from associated effects on the d σ(t anti-t)/d M_{t anti-t} distribution, dijet resonance searches, same sign top pair production and other phenomenology are satisfied. We work out two examples in detail, one where a scalar colour anti-sextet field, that is also an anti-sextet of SU(3)_U, enhances the forward-backward asymmetry, and one where the enhancement arises fro…
Recent measurements of the top quark charge asymmetry at Tevatron disfavor the existence of flavor universal axigluons and colorons at 2 sigmas. In this letter we explore the possibility to reconcile the data with these models and use the charge asymmetry and the invariant mass distribution of top-antitop quark pair events to constrain the mass and couplings of massive color-octet gauge bosons decaying to top quarks.
We compute the order $α_s^2$ QCD corrections to the $b$-quark forward-backward asymmetry in $e^+e^-\to b{\bar b}$ collisions at the $Z$ boson resonance, taking the non-zero mass of the $b$ quark into account. We determine these corrections with respect to both the $b$-quark axis and the thrust axis definition of the asymmetry. We compute also the distributions of these axes with respect to the electron beam. If one neglects the flavor singlet contributions to the $b$-quark asymmetry, as was done in previous computations for massless $b$ quarks, then the second-order QCD corrections for $m_b\ne…
The top quark forward-backward asymmetry measured at the Tevatron collider shows a large deviation from standard model expectations. Among possible interpretations, a non-universal $Z^\prime$ model is of particular interest as it naturally predicts a top quark in the forward region of large rapidity. To reproduce the size of the asymmetry, the couplings of the $Z^\prime$ to standard model quarks must be large, inevitably leading to copious production of same-sign top quark pairs at the energies of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We explore the discovery potential for $tt$ and $ttj$ production…
We construct flavor-dependent chiral U(1)' models with a Z' boson which couples to the right-handed up-type quarks in the standard model (SM). To make the models have realistic renormalizable Yukawa couplings, we introduce new Higgs doublets with nonzero U(1)' charges. Anomaly-free condition can be satisfied by adding extra chiral fermions. We show that these models could analyze the discrepancy between the SM prediction and empirical data in the top forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron.
The top quark forward-backward asymmetry measured at the Fermilab Tevatron collider deviates from the standard model prediction. A W^prime boson model is described, where the coupling W^prime-t-d is fixed by the tt_bar forward-backward asymmetry and total cross section at the Tevatron. We show that such a W^prime boson would be produced in association with a top quark at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), thus inducing additional tt_bar+j events. We use measurements of tt_bar+n-jet production from the LHC to constrain the allowed W^prime-t-d couplings as a function of W^prime boson mass. We…
The leading-order accurate description of top quark pair production, as usually employed in standard Monte Carlo event generators, gives no rise to the generation of a forward--backward asymmetry. Yet, non-negligible -- differential as well as inclusive -- asymmetries may be produced if coherent parton showering is used in the hadroproduction of top quark pairs. In this contribution we summarize the outcome of our study of this effect. We present a short comparison of different parton shower implementations and briefly comment on the phenomenology of the colour coherence effect at the Tevatron…
A color-singlet neutral vector boson is considered as a possible common origin of the top forward-backward asymmetry and the CDF dijet resonance. We identify chiral and flavor structures of the couplings of this new vector boson to the standard model quarks for which one could accommodate both data. We also demonstrate that non-vanishing observables involving longitudinal top polarizations can provide useful criteria for the possible existence of parity violating new physics in the q q^bar -> t t^bar process, and discrimination between the flavor-conserving and flavor-violating cases.
The long-distance contribution via the two-photon intermediate state to the forward-backward asymmetries in decays K+ --> pi+ l+ l- (l=e and mu) has been studied within the standard model. In order to evaluate the dispersive part of the K+ --> pi+ gamma* gamma* --> pi+ l+ l- amplitude, we employ a phenomenological form factor to soften the ultraviolet behavior of the transition. It is found that, this long-distance transition, although subject to some theoretical uncertainties, can lead to significant contributions to the forward-backward asymmetries, which could be tested in the future high-p…
Motivated by the recent unexpected large forward-backward asymmetry (FBA) of the top quark observed by D$Ø$ and CDF at the Tevatron, we investigate a possible explanation for the anomaly within the framework of diquark models. Unlike other mechanisms induced by s-channel or t-channel, the top-quark pair production in the diquark models is dictated by the u-channel diagram. We find that the color-triplet diquark can generate the FBA of 20% when the constraint from the cross section of the top-quark pair production is taken into account.
We perform a model independent analysis on $q \bar{q} \rightarrow t \bar{t}$ using an effective lagrangian with dim-6 four-quark operators, and derive necessary conditions on new physics that are consistent with the $t\bar{t}$ production cross section %($σ_{t\bar{t}}$) and and the forward-backward (FB) asymmetry ($A_{\rm FB}$) measured at the Tevatron. We also propose a new FB spin-spin correlation that is strongly correlated with the $A_{\rm FB}$, and discuss possible new physics scenarios that could generate such dim-6 operators.
Motivated by a possible anomaly in the forward-backward (FB) asymmetry of top quark (A_{\rm FB}) observed at the Tevatron, we perform a model independent analysis on q \bar{q} \to t \bar{t} using an effective lagrangian with dim-6 four-quark operators. We derive necessary conditions on new physics structures and the couplings that are consistent with the t\bar{t} production cross section and A_{\rm FB} measured at the Tevatron, and discuss possible new physics scenarios that could generate such dim-6 operators.
The CDF and D0 collaborations have recently reported a large forward-backward asymmetry in the ttbar system which deviates from the next to-leading order QCD standard model prediction. We study the asymmetry in the ttbar system within the framework of singlet extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. For this purpose, we introduce non-renormalizable couplings between first and third generation of quarks to scalars. We analyze two limiting cases of the model, characterized by the size of the supersymmetric mass for the singlet superfield. We study both the small and large limits …
Recent CDF and D0 measurements of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron present deviations between 1-sigma and 2-sigma from QCD predictions and a cut M_inv > 450 GeV on the events increases this deviation to 3.4 sigma in the CDF measurement. The inclusion of electroweak contributions of order alpha^2 and order alpha alphas^2 enlarges the theoretical prediction from QCD by a factor ~ 1.2 and diminishes the observed deviations. The calculation method is shortly discussed and numerical results are compared to the experimental data.
We review in some detail the QCD corrections to the measurement of the forward-backward charge asymmetry of heavy quarks in the $\mathrm{e^+e^-\rightarrow Q\overline{Q}(g)}$ process at the Z pole. We show that the size of these corrections can be reduced by an order of magnitude by using simple cuts on jet acollinearity. Such a reduction is expected to lead to systematic uncertainties at the $Δ\mathrm{A_{FB}^{0,Q}} \approx 10^{-4}$ level, opening up the path to high precision electroweak measurements with heavy flavors at future high luminosity $\mathrm{e^+e^-}$ colliders like the FCC-ee.
The ${\cal O}(α)$ radiative corrections to the process $p\,p\hskip-7pt\hbox{$^{^{(\!-\!)}}$} \rightarrow γ^*, \, Z \rightarrow \ell^+ \ell^-$ ($\ell=e,\,μ$) are calculated. Factorizing the collinear singularity associated with initial state photon bremsstrahlung into the parton distribution functions, we find that initial state corrections have a much smaller effect than final state radiative corrections. Due to mass singular logarithmic terms associated with photons emitted collinear with one of the final state leptons, QED radiative corrections strongly affect the shape of the di-lepton inva…
We study the forward-backward asymmetries in the decays of $K^+\toπ^+\ell^+ \ell^-$ ($\ell=e$ and $μ$) in the presence of scalar or tensor terms. We find that with the scalar (tensor) type interaction the asymmetry can be up to ${\cal O}(10^{-3})$ (${\cal O}(10^{-1}))$ and arbitrary large for the electron and muon modes, respectively, without conflict with the experimental data. We also discuss the cases in the minimal supersymmetric standard model where the scalar terms can be induced. In particular we show that the asymmetry in $K^+\toπ^+μ^+μ^-$ can be as large as ${\cal O}(10^{-3})$ in the …
An extra $U(1)'$ model with $Z'$ coupled only to the right-handed (RH) up-type quarks has been one of the popular models for the Tevatron top forward-backward asymmetry (FBA), and has been excluded by the same-sign top-pair productions at the LHC. However, the original $Z'$ model is not physical, since the up-type quarks are massless including the top quark. This disaster can be evaded if the Higgs sector is extended by including new Higgs doublets with nonzero $U(1)'$ charges. We find that some parameter regions could achieve not only the top FBA at the Tevatron, but also the charge asymmetry…
Forward-backward asymmetry $A_{\rm FB}$ is an essential observable to study the nature of coupling in the standard model and physics beyond the standard model, as shown at LEP and Tevatron. As a proton-proton collider, the LHC does not have the preferred direction contrary to her counterpart, namely, LEP and Tevatron. Therefore $A_{\rm FB}$ is not applicable at the LHC. However for the proton the momentum of valence quark is usually larger than that of the sea quark. Utilizing this feature we have defined a so-called one-side forward-backward asymmetry $A_{\rm OFB}$ for the top quark pair prod…
The QED initial state corrections are calculated to the forward-backward asymmetry for $e^+e^- \rightarrow γ^*/{Z^{0}}^*$ in the leading logarithmic approximation to $O(α^6 L^6)$ extending the known corrections up to $O(α^2 L^2)$ in analytic form. We use the method of massive on-shell operator matrix elements and present the radiators both in Mellin-$N$ and momentum fraction $z$-space. Numerical results are presented for various energies around the $Z$-peak by also including energy cuts. These corrections are of relevance for the precision measurements at the FCC$\_$ee.
We present a simultaneous measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry and the top-quark polarization in $t\bar t$ production in dilepton final states using 9.7 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-antiproton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV with the D0 detector. To reconstruct the distributions of kinematic observables we employ a matrix element technique that calculates the likelihood of the possible $t\bar t$ kinematic configurations. After accounting for the presence of background events and for calibration effects, we obtain a forward-backward asymmetry of $A^{t\bar t} = (15.0 \pm 6.4 \text{ (stat)} \pm…
The bottom quark forward-backward asymmetry $A_{\rm{FB}}$ is a key observable in electron-positron collisions at the $Z^{0}$ peak. In this paper, we employ the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) to fix the $α_s$-running behavior of the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to $A_{\rm{FB}}$. The resulting PMC scale for this $A_{\rm{FB}}$ is an order of magnitude smaller than the conventional choice $μ_r=M_Z$. This scale has the physically reasonable behavior and reflects the virtuality of its QCD dynamics, which is independent to the choice of renormalization scale. Our analyses sh…
We construct anomaly-free leptophobic U(1)' flavor models with light Z'(~ 145 GeV). In order to allow renormalizable Yukawa interactions for the standard model chiral fermions, new Higgs doublets with nonzero U(1)' charges are introduced. Then the neutral (pseudo)scalar Higgs bosons as well as Z' contribute to the t\bar{t} and the same sign top pair productions [σ(t\bar{t}]) and σ(tt)], and one can evade the strong constraint from σ(tt). The top forward-backward asymmetry (A_{FB}) and Wjj excess at CDF could be accommodated by A_{FB}^{New} = 0.084 ~ 0.12 and σ(W j j) \lesssim O(10) pb \times \…
We analyse a simple Standard Model (SM) extension with only two new light fields: a scalar partner of the top (stop) (with mass above m_t) and a light neutral fermion chi^0 (with mass of a few GeV), coupled to SM quarks via a Yukawa interaction. We show that such model can lead to a significant enhancement of the forward-backward asymmetry in t tbar production at the Tevatron via the additional t tbar pairs produced from (stop anti-stop) decays. The model satisfies existing constraints on new-physics searches both at low and high energies, and could even address the cosmological dark-matter ab…
