The rotational properties of angular momentum eigenstates imply the existence of a frame-independent relation among the parameters of the decay distribution of vector mesons into fermions. This relation is a generalization of the Lam-Tung identity, a result specific to Drell-Yan production in perturbative QCD, here shown to be equivalent to the dynamical condition that the dilepton always originates from a transversely polarized photon.
A complete set of formulae in terms of the moment-operator expansion is presented for the two-meson, two-photon and fermion-antifermion states that can be used in the analysis of scalar (S) and pseudoscalar (P) meson production in anti-p p and gamma-gamma collisions: anti-p p -> SS, PP, SP and gamma gamma -> SS, PP, SP.
The mass differences in all neutral pseudo scalar mesons and CP violations associated with the mixings are investigated in the context of the fermion- boson-type subquark model. These phenomena are unifyingly explained by the neutral scalar subquark exchanges between two quarks inside the present meson. It is predicted that the mass differences and CP violations of D, B and T meson systems.
An investigation of the rotational spectra of baryons and mesons is conducted. Diakonov, Petrov and Polyakov claimed that all light baryons are rotational excitations. A study of the history of particle physics indicates that the ideas of rotational spectra can be originally attributed to a constituent-quark (CQ) model as proposed by Mac Gregor. Later research advanced spin-orbit splitting in a deformed model as suggested by Bhaduri and others. In the present work, we show from current data that the rotational spectra of baryons and mesons are in agreement with the original claims of Mac Grego…
We study the chiral fermion meson model which is the well known linear sigma model of Gell-Mann-and-Levy at finite temperature.A modified self-consistent resummation (MSCR) which resums higher order terms in the perturbative expansion is proposed. It is shown that with the MSCR the problem of tachyonic masses is solved, the renormalization of the gap equations is carried out and the Goldstone's theorem is verified. We also apply the method to investigate another known case at high temperature and compare with results found in the literature.
We calculate the lifetime of the collective isospin rotating solutions which have been found recently in the case a quantum N-component meson field with exact O(N) symmetry. For this purpose we take into account the small breaking of the O(N) symmetry associated to the non vanishing mass of the pion. This term induces a coupling between collective rotations and intrinsic meson excitations. We evaluate the associated damping time in the framework of linear response theory. We find damping times of the order of 100 fm/c, i.e. substantially longer than reaction times.
The charmed-strange meson spectrum is calculated with the overlap valence fermions on 2+1 flavor domain wall dynamical configurations for $32^3\times 64$ lattices with a spatial size of 2.7 fm. Both charm and strange quark propagators are calculated with the overlap fermion action. The calculated scalar meson at 2304(22) MeV and axial-vector meson at 2546(27) MeV are in good agreement with the experimental masses of $D{s0}^*$(2317) and $D_{s1}$(2536).
The problem of meson bound states with $N_f$ massive fermions in two dimensional quantum electrodynamics is discussed. We speculate about the spectrum of the lightest particles by means of the effective semiclassical description. In particular, the systems of fundamental fermions with $SU(2)$ and $SU(3)$ flavour symmetries broken by massive terms are investigated.
For the relativistic string with massive ends, the three-string baryon model and other string models of the baryon the small disturbances of well known rotational motions are considered. For the string meson model the two types of these disturbances (quasirotational motions) are obtained. They are oscillatory motions in the form of stationary waves in the rotational plane and in the orthogonal direction. These solutions may be used for describing more wide spectrum of hadron excitations and for the quantization of this nonlinear system. For three-string baryon model or Y configuration these qu…
We consider the application of heavy fermion formalism based chiral perturbation theory to meson production in nucleon-nucleon collisions. It is shown that for one loop contributions the heavy fermion formalism expansion corrections for the nucleon propagator produce infinite series of correction terms which are of the same momentum power order. This destroys the one-to-one correspondence between the perturbative and small momentum expansion and thus negates the application of any finite order heavy fermion formalism chiral perturbation theory to the $NN\to NN π$ reactions.
The relativistic string with massive ends (the meson model) and four various string baryon models: q-qq, q-q-q, Y and $Δ$ are considered. In particular, the rotational motions for all these systems are applied to describing the leading Regge trajectories, and also the classical dynamics beyond the usual rectilinear string rotations is studied. For the string meson model the two types of quasirotational motions (disturbances of the planar uniform rotations) are obtained. They are oscillatory motions in the form of stationary waves in the rotational plane and in the orthogonal direction. The ana…
We study how to measure the current structure of the process that $B$ meson decays into two unstable fermions $\bar f_a$ and $f_b$ in model independent way. We use the momentum distributions of subsequent decay products affected by $\bar f_a f_b$ spin correlation. We have found the following: (1) We can extract the absolute values of two effective coupling constants from the opening angle between the particles decayed from $\bar f_a$ and $f_b$ (2) We can extract the real part of the interference from the energy distribution of one of the decayed particles from $\bar f_a$ or $f_b$. (3) No new i…
Indirect CP violation is analyzed in the framework of the electroweak gauge theory of J=0 mesons proposed in ref.[1], in which they transform like composite fermion-antifermion operators by the chiral U(N)left x U(N)right group and by the SU(2)left x U(1) gauge group of the Glashow-Salam-Weinberg model. It is shown that, in this model where, in particular, mass terms can be introduced for the mesons themselves, and unlike what happens in the standard model for fermions: - electroweak mass eigenstates can differ from CP eigenstates even in the case of two generations; - the existence of a compl…
Neutral meson mixing and $CP$ violation are very well known weak processes that involve decays to meson states that are, in general, a superposition of flavor eigenstates. This paper describes a mathematical interpretation of the time-dependent mixing amplitudes as a complex hyperbolic rotation of the time evolution of those amplitudes without mixing, which involves a Lie group $SO(1,1,\mathbb{C})$. This allows a geometric interpretation of mixing as a curve into the $SO(1,1,\mathbb{C})$ manifold, parameterized with the proper decay time, where $CP$ violation is the image of this curve at $t =…
In order to enhance our understanding of spectral functions in lattice QCD obtained with the help of the Maximum Entropy Method, we study meson spectral functions for lattice fermions with chiral symmetry. In particular we analyse lattice artefacts for standard overlap, overlap hypercube and domain wall fermions in the free field limit. We also present first results for pseudoscalar spectral functions in dynamical QCD with 2+1 flavours of domain wall fermions, using data generated by the UKQCD and RBC collaborations on QCDOC machines.
It is shown that a fermion mass matrix changing in orientation (rotating) with changing scales can give a simple yet near-quantitative explanation for quark mixing, neutrino oscillations and the fermion mass hierarchy.
We analyse the energy spectra of Dirac fermions in the presence of rotation and magnetic field. We find that the Landau degeneracy is resolved by rotation. A drastic change in the energy dispersion relation leads to the "rotational magnetic inhibition" that is a novel phenomenon analogous to the inverse magnetic catalysis in a magnetic system at finite chemical potential.
In the present paper, we study the effect of the rotation on the masses of scalar meson as well as vector meson in the framework of 2-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The existence of rotation causes a tedious quark propagator and corresponding polarization function. Applying the random phase approximation, the meson mass is calculated numerically. It is found that the behavior of scalar and pseudoscalar meson masses under the angular velocity $ω$ is similar to that at finite chemical potential, both rely on the behavior of constituent quark mass and reflect the property related to the chiral…
We have considered the contribution of fermionic vacuum loop in the effective potential of Polyakov loop extended Quark Meson Model (PQM) for the two quark flavour case and explored the phase structure and thermodynamics of the resulting PQMVT model (Polyakov Quark Meson Model with Vacuum Term) in detail at non zero as well as zero chemical potential. The temperature variations of order parameters and their derivatives have been calculated and the phase diagram together with the location of critical end point (CEP) has been obtained in $μ$, and $T$ plane in both the models PQMVT and PQM. The P…
We consider the $(2+1)$ flavor Polyakov Quark Meson Model and study the effect of including fermion vacuum fluctuations on the thermodynamics and phase diagram. The resulting model predictions are compared to the recent QCD lattice simulations by the HotQCD and Wuppertal-Budapest collaborations. The variation of the thermodynamic quantities across the phase transition region becomes smoother. This results in better agreement with the lattice data. Depending on the value of the mass of the sigma meson, including the vacuum term results in either pushing the critical end point into higher values…
We discuss how the angular distribution of lepton pairs from decays of vector mesons depends on the choice of reference frame, and provide a geometrical description of the transformations of the coefficients of the angular distribution. Invariant expressions involving all coefficients are discussed, together with bounds and consistency relations.
The recently discovered charmed-strangemeson Ds0*(2317) has been speculated to be a tetraquark mesonium. We study this suggestion with overlap fermions on 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion configurations. We use 4-quark interpolating operatorswith Z4 grid sources on two lattices (16\times16\times16\times32 and 24\times24\times24 times64) to study the volume dependence of the states in an attempt to discern the nature of the states in the four-quark correlator to see if they are all two-meson scattering states or if one is a tetraquark mesonium. We also use the hybrid boundary condition method for…
The properties of the light vector mesons in the presence of local parity breaking medium with a chiral imbalance are considered in the vector-meson dominance model. Applying the finite lowest-order radiatively induced local effective Lagrangian, initially developed for the QED, for the vector $ρ$ and $ω$ mesons, we obtained the mass spectrum as a function of momentum and chiral chemical potential $μ_5$. We showed that in addition to the Chern-Simons term, splitting the transverse polarisations of the mesons, there is another radiatively induced contribution that becomes important at momentum …
We present a quenched lattice calculation of $f_V^\perp/f_V$, the coupling of vector mesons to the tensor current normalized by the vector meson decay constant. The chirally improved lattice Dirac operator, which allows us to reach small quark masses, is used. We put emphasis on analyzing the quark mass dependence of $f_V^\perp/f_V$ and find only a rather weak dependence. Our results at the $ρ$ and $ϕ$ masses agree well with QCD sum rule calculations and those from previous lattice studies.
The simplest extension of the SM to account for the observed neutrino masses and mixings is the addition of at least two singlet fermions (or right-handed neutrinos). If their masses lie at or below the GeV scale, such new fermions would be produced in meson decays. Similarly, provided they are sufficiently heavy, their decay channels may involve mesons in the final state. In this work, we provide consistent expressions for the relevant effective operators involving neutrinos and mesons with masses up to 2 GeV. The associated effective Lagrangian has been implemented in FeynRules, allowing for…
We report on a lattice determination of the mass of the exotic $1^{-+}$ hybrid meson using an improved Kogut-Susskind action. Results from both quenched and dynamical quark simulations are presented. We also compare with earlier results using Wilson quarks at heavier quark masses. The results on lattices with three flavors of dynamical quarks show effects of sea quarks on the hybrid propagators which probably result from coupling to two meson states. We extrapolate the quenched results to the physical light quark mass to allow comparison with experimental candidates for the $1^{-+}$ hybrid mes…
A constituent-quark (CQ) mapping of all the baryon and meson resonances is listed for < 3000 MeV. The Isotopic Tables of the Baryons and Mesons (2003) are based upon the CQ Model of M. H. Mac Gregor. Hadrons in boldface are predictions of Mac Gregor. Hadrons in blue indicate rotational states. Predicted hadrons and their spins are indicated in red color. Underlined baryons indicate SU(3) decuplet for J = 3/2. The tables may be extended to charmed and bottom baryons or mesons at a later date. The table for the baryons is expanded to incorporate the recently discovered S = + 1 baryon. Additional…
We calculate the meson spectrum of the Sp(4) lattice gauge theory coupled to two fundamental flavours of dynamical Dirac fermions. We focus on some of the lightest (flavoured) spin-0 and spin-1 states. This theory provides an ultraviolet completion for composite Higgs models based upon the SU(4)/Sp(4) coset. We analyse the strongly coupled dynamics in isolation, without explicit coupling to the standard model. We carry out continuum extrapolations using dynamical ensembles generated at five different values of bare lattice coupling, and for several values of the bare fermion mass. We fit the r…
The di-fermion angular distribution observed in decays of inclusively produced vector particles is characterized by two frame-independent observables, reflecting the average spin-alignment of the produced particle and the magnitude of parity violation in the decay. The existence of these observables derives from the rotational properties of angular momentum eigenstates and is a completely general result, valid for any J=1 state and independent of the production process. Rotation-invariant formulations of polarization and of the decay parity-asymmetry can provide more significant measurements t…
We perform hybrid Monte Carlo (HMC) simulatons of two flavors QCD with the optimal domain-wall fermion (ODWF) on the 16^3 x 32 lattice (with lattice spacing a ~ 0.1 fm), for eight sea-quark masses corresponding to pion masses in the range 228-565 MeV. We calculate the mass and the decay constant of the pseudoscalar meson, and compare our data with the chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). We find that our data is in good agreement with the sea-quark mass dependence predicted by the next-to-leading order (NLO) ChPT, and provides a determination of the low-energy constants \bar{l}_3 and \bar{l}_4, …
We consider a vector-like gauge theory of fermions that confines at the multi-TeV scale, and that realizes the Higgs particle as a composite Goldstone boson. The weak interactions are embedded in the unbroken subgroup $Sp(4)$ of a spontaneously broken $SU(4)$ flavour group. The meson resonances appear as poles in the two-point correlators of fermion bilinears, and include the Goldstone bosons plus a massive pseudoscalar $η'$, as well as scalars, vectors and axial vectors. We compute the mass spectrum of these mesons, as well as their decay constants, in the chiral limit, in the approximation w…
We determine the light meson spectrum in QCD in the presence of background magnetic fields using quenched Wilson fermions. Our continuum extrapolated results indicate a monotonous reduction of the connected neutral pion mass as the magnetic field grows. The vector meson mass is found to remain nonzero, a finding relevant for the conjectured $ρ$-meson condensation at strong magnetic fields. The continuum extrapolation was facilitated by adding a novel magnetic field-dependent improvement term to the additive quark mass renormalization. Without this term, sizable lattice artifacts that would dec…
The theoretical calculation of pseudo-scalar leptonic decay widths into an invisible ALP, $M \to \ell\, ν_\ell\, a$, is reviewed. Assuming generic flavour-conserving ALP couplings to SM fermions and a generic ALP mass, $m_a$, the latest experimental results for pseudo-scalar leptonic decays are used to provide updated bounds on the ALP-fermion Lagrangian sector. Constrains on the ALP-quark couplings obtained from these channels are not yet competitive with the ones derived from FCNC processes, like $M\to P\,a$ decays. These leptonic decays can, however, provide the most stringent model-indepen…
We present results from an ongoing computation of masses of $D$ mesons, $D_s$ mesons and charmonium, including both ground states and several parity and angular momentum excitations. We employ 2+1+1 flavours of dynamical maximally twisted mass fermions at three lattice spacings and three $u/d$ quark masses at each lattice spacing. We consider different combinations of valence quark discretizations, with either identical or opposite signs in front of the twisted mass terms. In the end, our setup allows for a good control of different kinds of systematic effects, in particular the quark mass dep…
We formulate the description of the dynamic confinement of a single fermion by a flux tube. The range of applicability of this model extends from the relativistic corrections of a slowly moving quark to the ultra-relativistic motion in a heavy-light meson. The reduced Salpeter equation, also known as the no-pair equation, provides the framework for our discussion. The Regge structure is that of a Nambu string with one end fixed. Numerical solutions are found giving very good fits to heavy-light meson masses. An Isgur-Wise function with a zero recoil slope of $ξ'(1)\simeq -1.26 $ is obtained.
Coupling constants of $ρ$- and $ω$- meson-nucleon are related with each other by isospin relation. In present work, it is aimed at studying the violation (if it exists) of isospin symmetry of the $ω$-meson and to study the temperature dependence of $ω$-meson-nucleon-delta and $ω$-meson-delta coupling constants using the soft-wall model of holographic QCD. Firstly, the coupling constants are obtained by applying the profile functions of the vector and fermion fields to the model at a finite temperature. The interaction Lagrangian is written, including the minimum and magnetic interactions of ve…
The renormalized contribution of fermions to the curvature masses of vector and axial-vector mesons is derived with two different methods at leading order in the loop expansion applied to the (2+1)-flavor constituent quark-meson model. The corresponding contribution to the curvature masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar mesons, already known in the literature, is rederived in a transparent way. The temperature dependence of the curvature mass of various (axial-)vector modes obtained by decomposing the curvature mass tensor is investigated along with the (axial-)vector--(pseudo)scalar mixing. A…
It is a distinct possibility that a Hidden Valley sector would have a spectrum of light particles consisting of both stable and unstable dark mesons. The simultaneous presence of these two types of particles can lead to novel mechanisms for generating the correct dark matter relic abundance, which in turn can reflect themselves into new exotic signatures at colliders. We study the viability of such sectors for various Hidden Valley models and map the valid parameter space to possible collider signatures. Mediators studied include various scalar bifundamentals and a heavy $Z'$. It is shown that…
We study the impact of the fermion vacuum term in the SU(3) quark meson model on the equation of state and determine the vacuum parameters for various sigma meson masses. We examine its influence on the equation of state and on the resulting mass radius relations for compact stars. The tidal deformability $Λ$ of the stars is studied and compared to the results of the mean field approximation. Parameter sets which fulfill the tidal deformability bounds of GW170817 together with the observed two solar mass limit turn out to be restricted to a quite small parameter range in the mean field approxi…
We perform numerical calculations of masses and decay constants of the lightest (flavoured) pseudoscalar, vector and axial vector mesons in the $Sp(4)$ lattice gauge theory with three Dirac fermions in the antisymmetric representation. The corresponding continuum theory plays an important role in certain ultra-violet complete realisations of composite Higgs, partial top compositeness, and composite dark matter models. In addition, we measure the masses of other flavoured mesons in spin-$0$ and $1$ channels, as well as the first excited state of the vector mesons. Using the gradient flow to set…
We present the first study of the masses and decay constants of the pseudoscalar $ D $ mesons in two flavors lattice QCD with domain-wall fermion. The gauge ensembles are generated on the $24^3 \times 48 $ lattice with the extent $ N_s = 16 $ in the fifth dimension, and the plaquette gauge action at $ β= 6.10 $, for three sea-quark masses with corresponding pion masses in the range $260-475$ MeV. We compute the point-to-point quark propagators, and measure the time-correlation functions of the pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The inverse lattice spacing is determined by the Wilson flow, while t…
A knowledge of the radial distributions of quarks inside hadrons could lead to a better understanding of the QCD description of these hadrons and possibly suggest forms for phenomenological models. As a step in this direction, in an earlier work, the charge (vector) and matter (scalar) radial distributions of heavy-light mesons were measured in the quenched approximation on a 16^3x24 lattice with a lattice spacing of 'a' approx. 0.17 fm, and a hopping parameter corresponding to a light quark mass about that of the strange quark. Here several improvements are now made: 1) The configurations are…
We present preliminary results for various electroweak form factors of pseudo-scalar mesons using the tree-level improved Symanzik gauge action and the maximally twisted mass fermionic action with Nf = 2 dynamical flavors. Our results, obtained for both light and heavy quark masses at a single lattice spacing (a ~ 0.09 fm) and at a single lattice volume (V * T = 24**3 * 48), exhibit a quite remarkable statistical precision thanks to the use of all-to-all quark propagators computed with a stochastic method. Moreover very low values of the four-momentum transfer are achieved by making use of twi…
Instead of the fermion-fermion scattering which identifies the BCS-BEC crossover in cold atom systems, boson-boson scattering is measurable and characterizes the BCS-BEC crossover at quark level. We study $π$-$π$ scattering in a pion superfluid described by the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. We found that the scattering amplitude drops down monotonically with decreasing isospin density and finally vanishes at the boundary of the phase transition. This indicates a BCS-BEC crossover in the pion superfluid.
The rotation of polarization occurs for light interacting with chiral materials. It requires the light states with opposite chiralities interact differently with the materials. We demonstrate analogous rotation of polarization also exists for chiral fermions interacting with quantum electrodynamics plasma with vorticity using chiral kinetic theory. We find that the rotation of polarization is perpendicular both to vorticity and fermion momentum. The effect also exists for chiral fermions in quantum chromodynamics plasma with vorticity. It could lead to generation of a vector current when the p…
We apply a description of bound states of fermion and antifermion by means of our approximation to the Bethe-Salpeter formalism that retains part of the information on relativistic effects provided by the full fermion propagator to the lightest pseudoscalar mesons. Therein, the pseudo-Goldstone nature of the latter quark-antiquark bound states is taken into account by appropriately formulated effective interactions. Scrutinizing the predictions of this bound-state approach for meson masses, decay constants and in-meson condensates by relying on a generalized Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation sho…
We extend the calculation of relativistic bound-states of a fermion anti-fermion pair in the Bethe-Salpeter formalism to the case of total angular momentum $J=3$. Together with results for $J \le 2$ this allows for the investigation of Regge trajectories in this approach. We exemplify such a study for ground and excited states of light unflavored mesons as well as strange mesons within the rainbow-ladder approximation. For the $ρ$- and $ϕ$-meson we find a linear Regge trajectory within numerical accuracy. Discrepancies with experiment in other channels highlight the need to go beyond rainbow-l…
We investigate the effects of non-Hermiticity on interacting fermionic systems. We do this by including non-Hermitian bilinear terms into the 3+1 dimensional Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. Two possible bilinear modifications give rise to $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric theories; this happens when the standard NJL model is extended either by a pseudovector background field $ig \barψγ_5 B_μγ^μψ$ or by an antisymmetric-tensor background field $g \barψF_{μν}γ^μγ^νψ$. The three remaining bilinears are {\it anti}-$\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric in nature, $ig \barψB_μγ^μψ, ig\barψγ_5 ψ$ and $ig\barψ{1}ψ$, so th…
We analyse discretization effects in the calculation of high-temperature meson spectral functions at nonzero momentum and fermion mass on the lattice. We do so by comparing continuum and lattice spectral functions in the infinite temperature limit. Complete analytical results for the spectral densities in the continuum are presented, along with simple expressions for spectral functions obtained with Wilson and staggered fermions on anisotropic lattices. We comment on the use of local and point split currents.
We present a first look at the spectroscopy of SU(4) gauge theory coupled to two flavors of Dirac fermions in the two-index antisymmetric representation, which is a real representation. We compute meson and diquark masses, the pseudoscalar and vector meson decay constants, and the masses of six-quark baryons. We make comparisons with large-Nc expectations.
We present a lattice computation of the isospin-breaking corrections to pseudoscalar meson masses using the gauge configurations produced by the European Twisted Mass collaboration with $N_f = 2 + 1 + 1$ dynamical quarks at three values of the lattice spacing ($a \simeq 0.062, 0.082$ and $0.089$ fm) with pion masses in the range $M_π\simeq 210 - 450$ MeV. The strange and charm quark masses are tuned at their physical values. We adopt the RM123 method based on the combined expansion of the path integral in powers of the $d$- and $u$-quark mass difference ($\widehat{m}_d - \widehat{m}_u$) and of…
We determine the light quark masses from lattice QCD simulations incorporating the electromagnetic interaction of valence quarks. The meson masses are calculated on lattice QCD configurations generated by the RBC Collaboration for two flavors of dynamical domain wall fermions, which are combined with QED configurations generated via quenched non-compact lattice QED. The electromagnetic part of the pion mass splitting is found to be $m_{π^+}-m_{π^0}=4.12(21)$ MeV, where only the statistical error is quoted, and similarly for the kaon, 1.443(55) MeV. Our results for the light quark masses are $m…
Meson properties at finite temperature and density are studied in lattice QCD simulations with two-flavor Wilson fermions. For this purpose, we investigate screening masses of mesons in pseudo-scalar (PS) and vector (V) channels. The simulations are performed on $16^3\times 4$ lattice along the lines of constant physics at $m_{\rm PS}/m_{\rm V}|_{T=0}=0.65$ and 0.80, where $m_{\rm PS}/m_{\rm V}|_{T=0}$ is a ratio of meson masses in PS and V channels at $T=0$. A temperature range is $T/T_{\rm pc}=(0.8 - 4.0)$, where $T_{\rm pc}$ is the pseudo-critical temperature. We find that the temperature d…
