We determine the light quark masses from lattice QCD simulations incorporating the electromagnetic interaction of valence quarks. The meson masses are calculated on lattice QCD configurations generated by the RBC Collaboration for two flavors of dynamical domain wall fermions, which are combined with QED configurations generated via quenched non-compact lattice QED. The electromagnetic part of the pion mass splitting is found to be $m_{π^+}-m_{π^0}=4.12(21)$ MeV, where only the statistical error is quoted, and similarly for the kaon, 1.443(55) MeV. Our results for the light quark masses are $m_u^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$3.02(27)(19)$ MeV, $m_d^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$5.49(20)(34)$ MeV, and $m_s^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$119.5(56)(74)$ MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. By averaging over $\pm e$ to cancel ${\cal O}(e)$ noise exactly on each combined gauge field configuration, we are able to work at physical $α=1/137$ and obtain very small statistical errors. In our calculation, several sources of systematic error remain, including finite volume, non-zero lattice spacing, chiral extrapolation, quenched QED, and quenched strange quark, which may be more significant than the errors quoted above.
This paper presents a first study of the decay constants of the charged, or flavor-off-diagonal, pseudoscalar mesons to two loops for three flavors of sea quarks, in Partially Quenched Chiral Perturbation Theory (PQ$χ$PT). Explicit analytical expressions up to ${\cal O}(p^6)$ in the momentum expansion are given. The calculations have been performed within the supersymmetric formulation of PQ$χ$PT. We also present some numerical results to indicate the size of the corrections.
We evaluate the $πN!N$, $πΣΣ$, $πΛΣ$, $KΛN$ and $K ΣN $ coupling constants and the corresponding monopole masses in lattice QCD with two flavors of dynamical quarks. The parameters representing the SU(3)-flavor symmetry are computed at the point where the three quark flavors are degenerate at the physical $s$-quark mass. In particular, we obtain $α\equiv F/(F+D)=0.395(6)$. The quark-mass dependences of the coupling constants are obtained by changing the $u$- and the $d$-quark masses. We find that the SU(3)-flavor parameters have weak quark-mass dependence and thus the SU(3)-flavor symmetry is …
We study the scattering of the light-flavor pseudoscalar mesons ($π, K, η$) off the ground-state charmed mesons ($D,D_s$) within chiral effective field theory. The recent lattice simulation results on various scattering lengths and the finite-volume spectra both in the moving and center-of-mass frames, most of which are obtained at unphysical meson masses, are used to constrain the free parameters in our theory. Explicit formulas to include the $S$- and $P$-wave mixing to determine the finite-volume energy levels are provided. After a successful reproduction of the lattice data, we perform a c…
Using domain-wall lattice simulations, we study pseudoscalar-pseudoscalar scattering in the maximal isospin channel for an SU(3) gauge theory with two and six fermion flavors in the fundamental representation. This calculation of the S-wave scattering length is related to the next-to-leading order corrections to WW scattering through the low-energy coefficients of the chiral Lagrangian. While two and six flavor scattering lengths are similar for a fixed ratio of the pseudoscalar mass to its decay constant, six-flavor scattering shows a somewhat less repulsive next-to-leading order interaction …
We perform hybrid Monte Carlo (HMC) simulatons of two flavors QCD with the optimal domain-wall fermion (ODWF) on the 16^3 x 32 lattice (with lattice spacing a ~ 0.1 fm), for eight sea-quark masses corresponding to pion masses in the range 228-565 MeV. We calculate the mass and the decay constant of the pseudoscalar meson, and compare our data with the chiral perturbation theory (ChPT). We find that our data is in good agreement with the sea-quark mass dependence predicted by the next-to-leading order (NLO) ChPT, and provides a determination of the low-energy constants \bar{l}_3 and \bar{l}_4, …
We compute pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants in partially quenched QCD with three dynamical flavors of improved staggered quarks. Fitting the lattice data to staggered chiral perturbation theory forms and extrapolating in quark mass and lattice spacing, we find: $f_π= 129.5 \pm 0.9 \pm 3.5$ MeV, $f_K = 156.6 \pm 1.0 \pm 3.6$ MeV, and $f_K/f_π= 1.210(4)(13)$. The value for $f_K/f_π$ implies $|V_{us}|=0.2219(26)$. We also obtain $m_u/m_d = 0.43(0)(1)(8)$, or, with more input on electromagnetic effects from the continuum, $m_u/m_d = 0.41(0)(1)(4)$. Using the one-loop perturbative mass…
This paper presents a first study of the pseudoscalar meson masses to two loops, or NNLO, within the supersymmetric formulation of partially quenched chiral perturbation theory (PQ$χ$PT). The expression for the pseudoscalar meson mass in the case of three valence and three sea quarks with equal masses, but different from each other, is given to ${\cal O}(p^6)$, along with a numerical analysis.
Form factors for pseudoscalar --> pseudoscalar decays of heavy-light mesons are found in quenched lattice QCD with heavy-quark masses in the range of approximately 1-2 GeV. The Isgur-Wise function, $ξ(ω)$, is extracted from these form factors. Results are in good agreement with $ξ(ω)$ derived from CLEO measurements for B --> D*.
Accurately calculating the mass of flavor-singlet meson states from numerical lattice simulations is an important milestone for lattice QCD. Careful measurement of the full pseudoscalar flavor-singlet propagator is also a crucial step in understanding the dynamics of the fermion sea on the lattice, in particular for potentially non-trivial formulations such as with 2+1-flavor staggered fermions. We briefly describe details of a dynamical QCD calculation using improved staggered fermions, with 30,000 trajectories, that was run for our studies of flavour singlet mesons.
This paper presents a first study of the masses and decay constants of the charged, or flavor-off-diagonal, pseudoscalar mesons to two loops for two flavors of sea-quarks, in Partially Quenched Chiral Perturbation Theory (PQ$χ$PT). Explicit analytical expressions up to ${\cal O}(p^6)$ in the momentum expansion are given. The calculations have been performed within the supersymmetric formulation of PQ$χ$PT. A numerical analysis is done to indicate the size of the corrections.
We evaluate the pseudoscalar-meson octet-baryon coupling constants and the corresponding axial charges in eight channels ($πN\N$, $πΣΣ$, $πΛΣ$, $KΛN$, $K ΣN $, $πΞΞ$, $KΛΞ$ and $KΣΞ$) in lattice QCD with two flavors of dynamical quarks. The parameter $α\equiv F/(F+D)$ representing the SU(3)-flavor symmetry is computed at each u,d-quark hopping parameter and at the flavor-SU(3) symmetric point where the three quark flavors are degenerate at the physical $s$-quark mass. In particular, we obtain $α=0.395(6)$ at the SU(3) symmetric limit. The quark-mass dependences of the coupling constants are ob…
Lepton-flavor-violating decays of light pseudoscalars, $P=π^0,η,η'\toμe$, are stringently suppressed in the Standard Model up to tiny contributions from neutrino oscillations, so that their observation would be a clear indication for physics beyond the Standard Model. However, in effective field theory such decays proceed via axial-vector, pseudoscalar, or gluonic operators, which are, at the same time, probed in spin-dependent $μ\to e$ conversion in nuclei. We derive master formulae that connect both processes in a model-independent way in terms of Wilson coefficients, and study the implicati…
The Asqtad improved staggered fermion formalism has been a valuable tool in successfully calculating the non-singlet parts of the hadronic spectrum. We are engaged in a project to calculate the spectrum of the pseudoscalar singlet mesons with 2+1-flavor Asqtad staggered gauge configurations. Propagators of flavor-singlet states incorporate contributions from both disconnected and connected diagrams, and hence are sensitive to any differences in the actions governing the sea and valence fermions on the lattice. As such, they also present the possibility of a probe of the validity of the ``fourt…
We discuss Partially Quenched Chiral Perturbation Theory (PQ$χ$PT) and possible fitting strategies to Lattice QCD data at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in the mesonic sector. We also present a complete calculation of the masses of the charged pseudoscalar mesons, in the supersymmetric formulation of PQ$χ$PT. Explicit analytical results are given for up to three nondegenerate sea quark flavors, along with the previously unpublished expression for the pseudoscalar meson decay constant for three nondegenerate sea quark flavors. The numerical analysis in this paper demonstrates that the cor…
We report on progress in measuring disconnected correlators associated with pseudoscalar flavor-singlet mesons. This will eventually allow us to compute the masses of the eta and eta' mesons. Flavor-singlet physics also presents an interesting test of the staggered fermion formulation, as disconnected correlators are sensitive to whether the same action governs both sea quarks and valence quarks. It can also help test the validity of the ``fourth-root trick'' used in unquenched lattice calculations where the number of flavors $N_f<4$.
The MILC Collaboration has completed production running of electromagnetic effects on light mesons using asqtad improved staggered quarks. In these calculations, we use quenched photons in the noncompact formalism. We study four lattice spacings from $\approx\!0.12\:$fm to $\approx\!0.045\:$fm. To study finite-volume effects, we used six spatial lattice sizes $L/a=12$, 16, 20, 28, 40, and 48, at $a\!\approx\!0.12\:$fm. We update our preliminary values for the correction to Dashen's theorem ($ε$) and the quark-mass ratio $m_u/m_d$.
We investigate the finite size effect on pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants using a subset of the "PACS10" configurations which are generated keeping the space-time volumes over (10 fm$)^4$ in 2+1 flavor QCD at the physical point. We have tried two kinds of analyses, fixing $κ$ values or measured axial Ward identity quark masses. Comparing the results on (5.4 fm$)^4$ and (10.8 fm$)^4$ lattices, we have found a sizable finite size effect on the pseudoscalar meson sector in the former analysis: a 2.1(8)%, 4.8(1.6)%, and 0.36(31)% finite size effect on $m_π$, $m_{\rm ud}$, and $f_π$, r…
We present a lattice QCD calculation of the $Δ(1232)$ matrix elements of the axial-vector and pseudoscalar currents. The decomposition of these matrix elements into the appropriate Lorentz invariant form factors is carried out and the techniques to calculate the form factors are developed and tested using quenched configurations. Results are obtained for 2+1 domain wall fermions and within a hybrid scheme with domain wall valence and staggered sea quarks. Two Goldberger-Treiman type relations connecting the axial to the pseudoscalar effective couplings are derived. These and further relations …
We study the scalar and pseudoscalar condensations and the eta^prime meson correlators of the two-flavor massive Schwinger model in the non-zero theta vacuum. Exploiting our new method which was developed to investigate topological effects in the previous work, we find that the pseudoscalar condensation is non-zero and there exists a long-range correlation of the eta^prime meson. This phenomenon is well described by the clustering property. We also find that even in theta=0 case the cancellation of the long-range correlation is nontrivial and requires accurate contributions from higher topolog…
As part of our program of lattice simulations of three flavor QCD with improved staggered quarks, we have calculated pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants for a range of valence quark masses and sea quark masses on lattices with lattice spacings of about 0.125 fm and 0.09 fm. We fit the lattice data to forms computed with staggered chiral perturbation theory. Our results provide a sensitive test of the lattice simulations, and especially of the chiral behavior, including the effects of chiral logarithms. We find: f_π=129.5(0.9)(3.5)MeV, f_K=156.6(1.0)(3.6)MeV, and f_K/f_π=1.210(4)(13),…
We investigate the masses and mixing of $η$, $η'$ mesons in the framework of twisted mass lattice QCD with $N_f=2+1+1$ dynamical quark flavors. For the first time we perform a controlled chiral and continuum extrapolation to obtain physical results. To this end, we have analyzed 17 gauge ensembles with pion masses ranging from $220\,\mathrm{MeV}$ to $500\,\mathrm{MeV}$ and at three values of the lattice spacing. This calculation became feasible through the application of a powerful variance reduction technique for the computation of quark-disconnected diagrams together with several improvement…
We derive the formal Ward identities relating pseudoscalar susceptibilities and quark condensates in three-flavor QCD, including consistently the $η$-$η'$ sector and the $U_A(1)$ anomaly. These identities are verified in the low-energy realization provided by ChPT, both in the standard $SU(3)$ framework for the octet case and combining the use of the $U(3)$ framework and the large-$N_c$ expansion of QCD to account properly for the nonet sector and anomalous contributions. The analysis is performed including finite temperature corrections as well as the calculation of $U(3)$ quark condensates a…
We present a non-perturbative lattice calculation of the form factors which contribute to the amplitudes for the radiative decays $P\to \ell \bar ν_\ell γ$, where $P$ is a pseudoscalar meson and $\ell$ is a charged lepton. Together with the non-perturbative determination of the corrections to the processes $P\to \ell \bar ν_\ell$ due to the exchange of a virtual photon, this allows accurate predictions at $O(α_{em})$ to be made for leptonic decay rates for pseudoscalar mesons ranging from the pion to the $D_s$ meson. We are able to separate unambiguously and non-pertubatively the point-like co…
We present the current status of the MILC collaboration's calculations of the properties of the light pseudoscalar meson sector. We use asqtad staggered ensembles with 2+1 dynamical flavors down to $a \approx 0.045$ fm and light quark mass down to 0.05 $m_s$. Here we describe fits to the data using chiral forms from SU(3) chiral perturbation theory, including all staggered taste violations at NLO and the continuum NNLO chiral logarithms. We emphasize issues of convergence of the chiral expansion.
We study properties of pseudoscalar flavour-singlet mesons from Wilson twisted mass lattice QCD with Nf=2+1+1 dynamical quark flavors. Results for masses are presented at three values of the lattice spacing and light quark masses corresponding to values of the pion mass from 230 MeV to 500 MeV. We briefly discuss scaling effects and the light and strange quark mass dependence of the eta mass. In addition we present an exploratory study using Osterwalder-Seiler type strange and charm valence quarks. This approach avoids some of the complications of the twisted mass heavy doublet. We present fir…
We present the results of a lattice QCD calculation of the pseudoscalar meson decay constants fpi, fK, fD and fDs, performed with Nf=2 dynamical fermions. The simulation is carried out with the tree-level improved Symanzik gauge action and with the twisted mass fermionic action at maximal twist. We have considered for the final analysis three values of the lattice spacing, a~0.10 fm, 0.09 fm and 0.07 fm, with pion masses down to mpi~270 MeV. Our results for the light meson decay constants are fK=158.1(2.4) MeV and fK/fpi=1.210(18). From the latter ratio, by using the experimental determination…
I present a calculation of the topological susceptibility $χ_T$ in $SU(N_c)$ gauge theory with $N_c=3-5$ colors and $N_f=2$ degenerate flavors of fermions. The results lie on a common curve when expressed in terms of the combination $N_c m_{PS}^2 t_0$ where $m_{PS}$ is the pseudoscalar meson mass and $t_0$ is the flow parameter. $χ_T$ approaches its quenched value as the pseudoscalar mass becomes large. The lattice simulations use clover fermions. They are done at a single lattice spacing, roughly matched across $N_c$, and over a restricted range of fermion masses.
We report a quark spin calculation from the anomalous Ward identity with overlap fermions on 2+1 flavor dynamical fermion configurations with light sea quark masses. Such a formulation decomposes the divergence of the flavor-singlet axial-vector current into a quark pseudoscalar term and a triangle anomaly term, flavor by flavor. A large negative contribution from the anomaly term is observed and it is canceled within errors by the contribution from the pseudoscalar term in the disconnected insertion in the heavy quark region. On the other hand, net negative contributions are obtained for the …
This talk will focus on recent results by the MILC collaboration from simulations of light hadrons in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD. We have achieved high precision results in the pseudoscalar sector, including masses and decay constants, plus quark masses and Gasser-Leutwyler parameters from well controlled chiral perturbation theory fits to our data. We also show spectroscopy results for vector mesons and baryons.
We present a detailed study of the interactions among scalar and pseudoscalar mesons and glueballs within the framework of the generalized linear sigma model in the SU(3) flavor limit. The basis of our approach is to develop a global understanding of light scalar and pseudoscalar mesons (up to around 2 GeV) and thereby explore the underlying mixings among composite quark matter fields and glueballs. The chiral sector of the Lagrangian is formulated in terms of two chiral nonets representing quark-antiquarks and tetraquarks (in the leading order, this sector contains terms with eight or fewer n…
We present the latest preliminary results of the MILC collaboration's analysis of the light pseudoscalar meson sector. The analysis includes data from new ensembles with smaller lattice spacings, smaller light quark masses and lighter-than-physical strange quark masses. Both SU(2) and SU(3) chiral fits, including NNLO chiral logarithms, are shown. We give results for decay constants, quark masses, Gasser-Leutwyler low energy constants, and condensates in the two- and three-flavor chiral limits.
We present results of a high-statistics study of scalar and pseudoscalar meson propagators in quenched QCD at two values of lattice spacing, beta = 5.7 and 5.9, with clover-improved Wilson fermions. The study of the chiral limit is facilitated by the pole-shifting ansatz of the modified quenched approximation. Pseudoscalar masses and decay constants are determined as a function of quark mass and quenched chiral log effects are estimated. A study of the flavor singlet eta prime hairpin diagram yields a precise determination of the eta prime mass insertion. The corresponding value of the quenche…
In a continuation of an ongoing program, we use staggered chiral perturbation theory to calculate the one-loop chiral logarithms and analytic terms in the pseudoscalar meson leptonic decay constants, $f_{π^+_5}$ and $f_{K^+_5}$. We consider the partially quenched, ``full QCD'' (with three dynamical flavors), and quenched cases.
We evaluate the strangeness-conserving $N N$, $ΣΣ$, $ΞΞ$, $ΛΣ$ and the strangeness-changing $ΛN$, $ΣN$, $ΛΞ$, $ΣΞ$ axial charges in lattice QCD with two flavors of dynamical quarks and extend our previous work on pseudoscalar-meson-octet-baryon coupling constants so as to include $πΞΞ$, $KΛΞ$ and $KΣΞ$ coupling constants. We find that the axial charges have rather weak quark-mass dependence and the breaking in SU(3)-flavor symmetry is small at each quark-mass point we consider.
We study infrared conformality of the twelve-flavor QCD on the lattice. Utilizing the highly improved staggered quarks (HISQ) type action which is useful to study the continuum physics, we analyze the lattice data of the mass and the decay constant of a pseudoscalar meson and the mass of a vector meson as well at several values of lattice spacing and fermion mass. Our result is consistent with the conformal hypothesis for the mass anomalous dimension $γ_m \sim 0.4-0.5$.
We present the first calculation within lattice QCD of excited light meson resonances with $J^{PC} = 1^{--}$, $2^{--}$ and $3^{--}$. Working with an exact SU(3) flavor symmetry, for the singlet representation of pseudoscalar-vector scattering, we find two $1^{--}$ resonances, a lighter broad state and a heavier narrow state, a broad $2^{--}$ resonance decaying in both $P$- and $F$-waves, and a narrow $3^{--}$ state. We present connections to experimental $ω^\star_J, ϕ^\star_J$ resonances decaying into $πρ$, $K\bar{K}^*$, $ηω$ and other final states.
We perform a precise calculation of the chiral condensate in QCD using lattice QCD with 2+1 flavors of dynamical overlap quarks. Up and down quark masses cover a range between 3 and 100 MeV on a 16^3x48 lattice at a lattice spacing around 0.11 fm. At the lightest sea quark mass, the finite volume system on the lattice is in the epsilon-regime. By matching the low-lying eigenvalue spectrum of the Dirac operator with the prediction of chiral perturbation theory at the next-to-leading order, we determine the chiral condensate in 2+1-flavor QCD with strange quark mass fixed at its physical value a…
We present results for the first two moments of the distribution amplitudes of pseudoscalar mesons. Using two flavors of non-perturbatively improved clover fermions and non-perturbative renormalization of the matrix elements we perform both chiral and continuum extrapolations and compare with recent results from models and experiments.
We present results on the isoscalar form factors including the disconnected contributions, as well as on the strange and charm quark form factors. Using previous results on the isovector form factors, we determine the flavor decomposition of the nucleon axial form factors. These are computed using an ensemble of $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions simulated with physical values of quark masses. We investigate the SU(3) flavor symmetry and show that there is up to 10\% breaking for the axial and up to 50\% for the induced pseudoscalar form factors. By fitting the $Q^2$-dependence, we determined t…
We present a study of the pseudoscalar and vector meson form factors, calculated using the Fat-Link Irrelevant Clover (FLIC) action in the framework of Quenched Lattice QCD. Of particular interest is the determination of a negative quadrupole moment, indicating that the $ρ$ meson is not spherically symmetric.
We describe the first lattice determination of the strong coupling constant with 3 flavors of dynamical quarks. The method follows previous analyses in using a perturbative expansion for the plaquette and Upsilon spectroscopy to set the scale. Using dynamical configurations from the MILC collaboration with 2+1 flavors of dynamical quarks we are able to avoid previous problems of having to extrapolate to 3 light flavors from 0 and 2. Our results agree with our previous work: alpha_s_MSbar(M_Z) = 0.121(3).
With twisted boundary conditions on the quark fields, we study nucleon matrix elements of the axial current utilizing twisted heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. One can explore the momentum transfer dependence of the axial form factors more easily than by using ordinary lattice quantized momenta alone. As examples, we derive expressions for the nucleon axial radius and pseudoscalar form factor.
We present a fully non-perturbative determination of the $O(a)$ improvement coefficient $c_{\rm SW}$ in three-flavor dynamical QCD for the RG improved as well as the plaquette gauge actions, using the Schrödinger functional scheme. Results are compared with one-loop estimates at weak gauge coupling.
We present a first look at the spectroscopy of SU(4) gauge theory coupled to two flavors of Dirac fermions in the two-index antisymmetric representation, which is a real representation. We compute meson and diquark masses, the pseudoscalar and vector meson decay constants, and the masses of six-quark baryons. We make comparisons with large-Nc expectations.
Pseudoscalar-pole diagrams are an important component of estimates of the hadronic light-by-light (HLbL) contribution to the muon $g-2$. We report on our computation of the transition form factors $\mathcal{F}_{P \rightarrow γ^* γ^*}$ for the neutral pseudoscalar mesons $P=π^0$ and $η$. The calculation is performed using twisted-mass lattice QCD with physical quark masses. On the lattice, we have access to a broad range of (space-like) photon four-momenta and therefore produce form factor data complementary to the experimentally accessible single-virtual direction, which directly leads to an e…
We study the static potential using gauge configurations that include the effects of two flavors of dynamical Kogut-Susskind quarks. The configurations, generated by the MILC collaboration, and used to study the spectrum and heavy-light decay constants, cover a range $5.3 \le 6/g^2 \le 5.6$. There are at least four quark masses for each coupling studied. Determination of $r_0$ from the potential can be used to set a scale. This alternative scale is useful to study systematic errors on the spectrum and decay constants.
We present lattice QCD results for masses and magnetic polarizabilities of light and strange pseudoscalar mesons, chiral condensates, decay constants of neutral pion, and neutral kaon in the presence of background magnetic fields with $eB$ ranging up to around 3.35 GeV$^2$ ($\sim70~M_π^2$) in the vacuum. The computations were carried out in (2+1)-flavor QCD mostly on $32^3 \times 96$ lattices using the highly improved staggered quark action with $M_π \approx $ 220 MeV at zero temperature. We find that the masses of neutral pseudoscalar mesons monotonously decrease as the magnetic field strengt…
Lattice QCD simulations are now reaching a precision where electromagnetic corrections from QED become important. In investigating the effects of SU(3) breaking due to quark mass differences within QCD, a group-theoretical analysis of the mass dependence greatly helped us organize our results. We now do the same with electromagnetic charge effects by extending the calculations to dynamical 1+1+1 flavor QCD + QED.
Because the propagators of flavor-singlet states incorporate disconnected diagrams, they are uniquely sensitive to any differences in the actions governing sea and valence fermions on the lattice. As such, they present an important test of the validity of the ``fourth-root trick'' in the staggered fermion formulation. The pseudoscalar's relationship to topological charge also makes it of theoretical interest. We present preliminary results from our measurements of flavor-singlet pseudoscalar mesons on 2+1 flavor Asqtad lattices, and discuss some strategies for improving the signal-to-error rat…
We point out that the sum of the strange-quark-connected and full, three-flavor quark-disconnected contributions to the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution, $a_μ^{\mathrm{LO,HVP}}$, to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, is a physical observable, and provide a data-based determination of this quantity in the isospin limit. The result, $40.1(1.5)\times 10^{-10}$, or $38.7(2.0)\times 10^{-10}$, depending on which data compilation is used, serves as a target of comparison for lattice calculations of the same isospin-limit combination. Subtracting from this result the av…
Simulations with 2+1 flavors of domain wall fermions provide us with the opportunity to compare the lattice data directly to the predictions of continuum chiral perturbation theory, up to corrections from the residual chiral symmetry breaking, $m_{res}$, and $O(a)$ lattice artefacts, which are relatively small for domain wall fermions. We present preliminary results for the pseudoscalar meson masses and decay constants from partially quenched simulations and examine the next-to-leading order chiral extrapolations at small quark masses. The simulations were carried out on two lattice volumes : …
We present a lattice determination of the $Λ$ parameter in three-flavor QCD and the strong coupling at the Z pole mass. Computing the nonperturbative running of the coupling in the range from $0.2\,$GeV to $70\,$GeV, and using experimental input values for the masses and decay constants of the pion and the kaon, we obtain $Λ_{\overline{\rm MS}}^{(3)}=341(12)\,$MeV. The nonperturbative running up to very high energies guarantees that systematic effects associated with perturbation theory are well under control. Using the four-loop prediction for $Λ_{\overline{\rm MS}}^{(5)}/Λ_{\overline{\rm MS}…
We present measurements of a combination of the decay constants of the light pseudoscalar mesons and the gradient flow scale $t_0$, which allow to set the scale of the lattices generated by CLS with $2 + 1$ flavors of non-perturbatively improved Wilson fermions. Mistunings of the quark masses are corrected for by measuring the derivatives of observables with respect to the bare quark masses.
The Lattice Strong Dynamics collaboration is investigating the properties of a SU(3) gauge theory with $N_f = 8$ light fermions on the lattice. We measure the masses of the lightest pseudoscalar, scalar and vector states using simulations with the nHYP staggered-fermion action on large volumes and at small fermion masses, reaching $M_ρ/M_π \approx 2.2$. The axial-vector meson and the nucleon are also studied for the same range of fermion masses. One of the interesting features of this theory is the dynamical presence of a light flavor-singlet scalar state with $0^{++}$ quantum numbers that is …
We present first results for the step scaling function sigma_P of the renormalization factor Z_P of the pseudoscalar density. The simulations are performed within the framework of the Schroedinger functional with two flavors of O(a) improved Wilson fermions. The knowledge of sigma_P is required to compute the renormalization group invariant quark masses. We also study the performance of a variant of the HMC algorithm using two pseudofermion fields.
