We analyse subleading electroweak effects in the top anti-top resonance production region in e+ e- collisions which arise due to the decay of the top and anti-top quarks into the W+ W- b bbar final state. These are NLO corrections adopting the non-relativistic power counting v ~ alpha_s ~ sqrt(alpha_EW). In contrast to the QCD corrections which have been calculated (almost) up to NNNLO, the parametrically larger NLO electroweak contributions have not been completely known so far, but are mandatory for the required accuracy at a future linear collider. The missing parts of these NLO contributions arise from matching coefficients of non-resonant production-decay operators in unstable-particle effective theory which correspond to off-shell top production and decay and other non-resonant irreducible background processes to t tbar production. We consider the total cross section of the e+ e- -> W+ W- b bbar process and additionally implement cuts on the invariant masses of the W+ b and W- bbar pairs.
We obtain analytical formulae for the cross section and the angular distributions of the b(bbar) quarks in the process e+e- -> t tbar, with t -> W+ b (tbar -> W- bbar) assuming CP violation in the γt tbar and Z t tbar vertices. We present CP violating asymmetries, which measure separately the real and imaginary parts of the electroweak dipole moment form factors of the top, d^γ(s) and d^{Z}(s). We give a numerical analysis of these asymmetries within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters. They turn out to be of order <= 10^{-3}.
The energy spectra of the b and bbar quarks in e+e- -> t tbar with t -> b W (tbar -> bbar W) are calculated assuming CP violation in the production process. Expressions for the corresponding CP violating asymmetries and optimal observables that determine the imaginary parts of the electric and weak dipole moment form factors of the top are derived. It is shown that polarization of the initial lepton beams is essential to disentangle Im d^γ(s) and Im d^{Z}(s). Numerical results are given in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex phases.
New quark singlets T can be produced in pairs at LHC through standard QCD interactions, with a large cross section for masses of several hundreds of GeV. Their charged current decays T Tbar T -> W+ b W- bbar, with semileptonic decay of the W pair, give a final state l nu bb jj$, as in top pair production. The mixed decay modes T Tbar -> W+ b H tbar, H t W- bbar -> W+ b W- bbar H, T Tbar -> W+ b Z tbar, Z t W- bbar -> W+ b W- bbar Z, with H,Z -> jj, yield two more jets, l nu bb jjjj, or the same state in the latter case for Z -> nu nubar. We extend previous work examining in detail the extra H …
We evaluate the LHC discovery potential for a light Higgs boson in t tbar H (-> l nu b bbar b bbar jj) production, within the Standard Model and if a new Q=2/3 quark singlet T with a moderate mass exists. In the latter case, T pair production with decays T Tbar -> W+ b H tbar / H t W- bbar -> W+ b W- bbar H provides an important additional source of Higgs bosons giving the same experimental signature, and other decay modes T Tbar -> H t H tbar -> W+ b W- bbar H H, T Tbar -> Z t H tbar / H t Z tbar -> W+ b W- bbar H Z further enhance this signal. Both analyses are carried out with particle-leve…
In the top quark pair production in association with the Higgs boson decaying to a b quark pair t-tbar H (b-bbar), the final state has an irreducible nonresonant background from the production of a top quark pair in association with a b quark pair t-tbar b-bbar. Therefore, understanding of the t-tbar b-bbar process precisely in particular differential cross-section as functions of the properties of the additional b jets not from the top quark decay is essential for improving the sensitivity of a search for the t-tbar H b-bbar process. The two additional b jets can be identified by using variou…
In events of the type e+ e- -> t tbar -> b W+ bbar W-, particle production could depend in a non-trivial way on the kinematics of the process. Energetic perturbative gluon radiation can be generated (when kinematically allowed) by the original t tbar system and by the t -> b W+ and tbar -> bbar W- decays, with negligible interference between the production and decay stages and between the t and tbar decays. Soft perturbative gluon emission and non-perturbative fragmentation does introduce a correlation, however. To illustrate the size of these effects, we study the multiplicity as a function o…
We present theoretical predictions for the hadroproduction of t tbar W+, t tbar W- and t tbar Z at LHC as obtained by matching numerical computations at NLO accuracy in QCD with Shower Monte Carlo programs. The calculation is performed by PowHel, relying on the POWHEG-BOX framework, that allows for the matching between the fixed order computation, with input of matrix elements produced by the HELAC-NLO collection of event generators, and the Parton Shower evolution, followed by hadronization and hadron decays as described by PYTHIA and HERWIG. We focus on the dilepton and trilepton decay chann…
The reaction pp/pbar p -> t tbar jet+X is an important background process for Higgs boson searches in the mass range below 200 GeV. Apart from that it is also an ideal laboratory for precision measurements in the top quark sector. Both applications require a solid theoretical prediction, which can be achieved only through a full next-to-leading order (NLO) calculation. In this work we describe the NLO computation of the subprocess gg -> t tbar g.
We argue that theories of strong electroweak symmetry breaking sector necessarily contain new spin 0 states at the TeV scale in the tbar-t and tbar-b/bbar-t channels, even if the third generation quarks are not composite at the TeV scale. These states couple sufficiently strongly to third generation quarks to have significant production at LHC via gg \to X or gb \to X. The existence of narrow resonances in QCD suggests that the strong electroweak breaking sector contains narrow resonances that decay to tbar-t or tbar-b/bbar-t, with significant branching fractions to 3 or more longitudinal W an…
We report on the calculation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of top--anti-top quark pairs in association with a hard jet at the Tevatron and at the LHC. We present results for the t tbar + jet cross section and the forward--backward charge asymmetry. The corrections stabilize the leading-order prediction for the cross section. The charge asymmetry receives large corrections.
We present the next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD corrections to the inclusive total cross section for the production of a Higgs boson in association with a top anti-top quark pair within the Standard Model at the Tevatron and the LHC.
We present NLO QCD results for W/Z gauge boson production with bottom quark pairs at the Tevatron including full bottom-quark mass effects. We study the impact of QCD corrections on both total cross-section and invariant mass distribution of the bottom-quark pair. Including NLO QCD corrections greatly reduces the dependence of the tree-level cross-section on the renormalization and factorization scales. We also compare our calculation to a calculation that considers massless bottom quarks and find that the bottom-quark mass effects amount to about 8-10% of the total NLO QCD cross-section and c…
We summarize recent progress in next-to-leading order QCD calculations made using the Monte Carlo MCFM. In particular, we focus on the calculations of p anti-p -> W b-bbar, Z b-bbar and highlight the significant corrections to background estimates for Higgs searches in the channels WH and ZH at the Tevatron. We also report on the current progress of, and strategies for, the calculation of the process p anti-p -> W/Z + 2 jets.
We present results for the O(alpha_s) virtual corrections to q g -> W b bbar q' obtained with a new automatized approach to the evaluation of one-loop amplitudes in terms of Feynman diagrams. Together with the O(alpha_s) corrections to q q' -> W b bbar g, which can be obtained from our results by crossing symmetry, this represents the bulk of the next-to-leading order virtual QCD corrections to W b bbar + j and W b + j hadronic production, calculated in a fixed-flavor scheme with four light flavors. Furthermore, these corrections represent a well defined and independent subset of the 1-loop am…
We present the NLO corrections to the Wilson coefficients of the Delta F = 2 Hamiltonians in the strong interacting sector of the MSSM, responsible for neutral meson oscillations. Such corrections, combined with the NLO anomalous dimension matrix for the Delta F = 2 operators and the corresponding hadronic matrix elements calculated on the lattice, allow for the first time a full NLO phenomenological analysis of the observables related to meson oscillations. We present preliminary results in the B_d - B_d bar sector.
The production of W+ W- b bbar from e+ e- collisions at energies close to the t tbar threshold is dominated by the resonant process with a nearly on-shell t tbar intermediate state. The W b pairs in the final state can also be reached through the decay of off-shell tops or through background processes containing no or only single top quarks. This non-resonant production starts to contribute at NLO to the W+ W- b bbar total cross section in the non-relativistic power-counting v ~ alpha_s ~ sqrt(alpha_EW). The NLO non-resonant corrections presented in this talk represent the non-trivial NLO elec…
We compute the O(alpha_s) QCD corrections to the partonic process gg -> t-tbar-Z at the LHC. This partonic channel is the dominant component of the scattering process pp -> t-tbar-Z, which will be important for measuring the t-tbar-Z electroweak couplings. The O(alpha_s) corrections increase the total cross section by up to 75% for reasonable choices of the renormalization and factorization scales. Inclusion of these contributions descreases the residual scale dependence of the cross section coming from uncalculated higher order terms to +-5%.
We show that the charge asymmetry in t tbar production at the LHC, A_C, and the forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron, A_FB, are in general not tightly correlated. They can even have opposite signs, if the underlying new physics (NP) model is general enough. We demonstrate this using two examples of NP: a light axigluon, and a vector that is a color octet and electroweak triplet. The small value of A_C measured at the LHC is thus shown not to exclude a NP interpretation of the anomalously large A_FB at the Tevatron. We identify two observables where significant NP effects are still expect…
The light axigluon model of Tavares and Schmaltz is a viable candidate to explain the Tevatron t-tbar forward-backward asymmetry. In this paper we present the forward-backward asymmetries for b-bbar and c-cbar systems predicted by the light axigluon. Furthermore, we modify this model to include flavor changing couplings of axigluons with the SM quarks. We constrain these couplings from the available neutral meson mixing data, and investigate their effects on the rare decay B^0_s -> mu^+ mu^-, CP violating D -> h^+ h^- and isospin violating B -> K^(*) mu^+ mu^- decays. We show that a light axig…
We investigate the inclusive production of a Higgs boson with a pair of heavy quarks (t-tbar b-bbar), in e^+e^- collisions at high energies, sqrt(s)=500 GeV and sqrt(s)=1 TeV. We consider both the Standard Model and the supersymmetric case. In both cases O(alpha_s) QCD corrections are included. The associated production of a Higgs boson with a t-tbar pair is extremely sensitive to the top-Higgs Yukawa coupling and may allow the precision measurement of this coupling. In some regions of the supersymmetric parameter space the associated production of a Higgs boson with a b-bbar pair receives lar…
We consider a general two-Higgs-doublet model with CP violation in the scalar sector. Three neutral Higgs fields of the model all mix and the resulting physical Higgs bosons have no definite CP properties. That leads, at the one-loop level of the perturbation expansion, to CP-violating form factors for gamma-t-tbar, Z-t-tbar and W-t-b interaction vertices. We discuss asymmetries sensitive to CP violation induced by the form factors for the process e^+ e^- -> t tbar -> l^\pm ... and e^+ e^- -> t tbar -> b/bbar ... at future linear e+ e- colliders.
We present in detail the calculation of the O(alpha_s^3) inclusive total cross section for the process pp -> t-tbar-h, in the Standard Model, at the CERN Large Hadron Collider with center-of-mass energy sqrt(s_H)=14 TeV. The calculation is based on the complete set of virtual and real O(alpha_s) corrections to the parton level processes q-qbar -> t-tbar-h and gg -> t-tbar-h, as well as the tree level processes (q,qbar)g -> t-tbar-h-(q,qbar). The virtual corrections involve the computation of pentagon diagrams with several internal and external massive particles, first encountered in this proce…
We present an implementation of the next-to-leading order hadronic production of a W boson in association with a pair of massive bottom quarks in the framework of POWHEG, a method to consistently interface NLO QCD calculations with shower Monte Carlo generators. The process has been implemented using the POWHEG BOX, an automated computer code that sistematically applies the POWHEG method to NLO QCD calculations. Spin correlations in the decay of the W boson into leptons have been taken into account using standard approximated techniques. We present phenomenological results for W b bbar-> l nu …
We investigate a number of observables that are and will be instrumental in the exploration of $\tbart$ production and decay at the Tevatron and the LHC. For this analysis we made a computer program that incorporates besides the NLO QCD corrections to $\tbart$ production and decay also mixed weak-QCD corrections to the production amplitudes, and that allows for studies of correlated versus uncorrelated $\tbart$ events. In this paper we analyze and compute observables mostly for dileptonic $\tbart$ final states to next-to-leading order in the strong and weak gauge couplings (NLOW), with selecti…
We calculate the Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) QCD corrections to W-b-bbar production including full bottom-quark mass effects. We study the impact of NLO QCD corrections on the total cross section and invariant mass distribution of the bottom-quark jet pair at the Fermilab Tevatron p-pbar collider. We perform a detailed comparison with a calculation that considers massless bottom quarks. We find that neglecting bottom-quark mass effects overestimates the NLO total cross-section for W-b-bbar production at the Tevatron by about 8% independent of the choice of renormalization and factorization sca…
We report on the feasibility of the direct measurement of the top Yukawa coupling g_t at the International Linear Collider (ILC) during its first phase of operation with a center-of-mass energy of 500 GeV. The signal and background models incorporate the non-relativistic QCD corrections which enhance the production cross section near the t-tbar threshold. The e+e- -> t tbar H signal is reconstructed in the 6-jet + lepton and the 8-jet modes. The results from the two channels are combined. The background processes considered are e+e- -> t bbar W- / tbar b W+ (which includes e+e- -> t tbar), e+e…
The production of a Higgs boson in association with a pair of t-tbar quarks will play a very important role at both hadron and lepton colliders. We review the status of theoretical predictions and their relevance to Higgs boson studies, with particular emphasis on the recently calculated NLO QCD corrections to the inclusive cross section for p-pbar,pp -> t-tbar-h. We conclude by briefly discussing the case of exclusive b-bbar-h production and the potential of this process in revealing signals of new physics beyond the Standard Model.
We consider photon radiation in tbar-t events at the upgraded Fermilab Tevatron and the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) as a tool to measure the electric charge of the top quark. We analyze the contributions of tbar-t-gamma production and radiative top quark decays to p-p, pbar-p -> gamma l^+/- nu bbar-b jj, assuming that both b-quarks are tagged. With 20~fb^{-1} at the Tevatron, the possibility that the ``top quark'' discovered in Run I is actually an exotic charge -4/3 quark can be ruled out at the 95% confidence level. At the LHC, it will be possible to determine the charge of the top quar…
The production of a Standard Model Higgs boson in association with a top quark pair at the upcoming high luminosity run (15 inverse fb integrated luminosity) of the Fermilab Tevatron (root s = 2.0 TeV) is revisited. For Higgs masses below 140 GeV we demonstrate that the production cross section times branching ratio for H->B Bbar decays yields a significant number of events and that this mode is competitive with and complementary to the searches using P Pbar -> WH, ZH associated production. For higher mass Higgs bosons the H -> W+ W- decays are more difficult but have the potential to provide …
In the Standard Model, the coupling of the Higgs boson to b quarks is weak, leading to small cross sections for producing a Higgs boson in association with b quarks. However, Higgs bosons with enhanced couplings to b quarks, such as occur in supersymmetric models for large values of tan beta, will be copiously produced at both the Tevatron and the LHC in association with b quarks, which will be an important discovery channel. We investigate the connections between the production channels, bg -> bh and gg ->b bbar h, at next-to-leading order (NLO) in perturbative QCD and present results for the…
Results from a realistic simulation of the heavy MSSM Higgs-bosons A and H production, gamma gamma -> A,H -> b bbar, at the Photon Collider at TESLA are reported. In the scenario where a light SM-like Higgs boson h exists, we study (following M. Muehlleitner et al.) Higgs bosons A and H for masses M_A=200,250,300,350 GeV and tan(beta)=7. This scenario corresponds to parameters region not accessible at LHC or at the first stage of the e^+ e^- collider. NLO estimation of background, analysis of overlaying events, realistic b-tagging and corrections for escaping neutrinos were performed. The stat…
The processes e+e- -> t tbar/b bbar + Higgs allow to measure the Yukawa couplings between Higgs bosons and heavy quarks in supersymmetric theories. The complete set of next-to-leading order SUSY-QCD corrections to the cross sections of these processes have been determined in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. They turn out to be O(10-20%) and thus important for future linear e+e- colliders.
We present the complete NLO contributions to the pp -> e^+ v_e mu^- vbar_m b bbar + X process in the four flavour scheme, i.e. with massive b quarks, and its contribution to the H -> WW -> llvv measurement in the 1-jet bin at the LHC. This background process includes top pair, single top and non-top quark-resonant contributions. The uncertainty at NLO from renormalisation and factorisation scale dependence is about +30% -20%. We show that the NLO corrections are relatively small, and that separating this background in top pair, Wt and b-quark associated llvv is a fair approximation.
We examine the LHC discovery potential for new Q=2/3 quark singlets T in the process gg,qq -> T Tbar -> W+ b W- bbar, with one W boson decaying hadronically and the other one leptonically. A particle-level simulation of this signal and its main backgrounds is performed, showing that heavy quarks with masses of 500 GeV or lighter can be discovered at the 5 sigma level after a few months of running, when an integrated luminosity of 3 fb^-1 is collected. With a luminosity of 100 fb^-1, this process can signal the presence of heavy quarks with masses up to approximately 1 TeV. Finally, we discuss …
Single and pair top-quark production in proton-lead (p-Pb) and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and future circular collider (FCC) energies, are studied with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations including nuclear parton distribution functions. At the LHC, the pair-production cross sections amount to sigma(t-tbar) = 3.4 mub in Pb-Pb at sqrt(s) = 5.5 TeV, and sigma(t-tbar) = 60 nb in p-Pb at sqrt(s) = 8.8 TeV. At the FCC energies of sqrt(s) = 39 and 63 TeV, the same cross sections are factors of 90 and 55 times larger respectively. In the lepton…
Within the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) the associated production of neutral Higgs bosons with top and bottom quarks belongs to the most important Higgs-boson production processes at the LHC. At large values of tan(beta), in particular, bottom--Higgs associated production constitutes the dominant production channel within the MSSM. We have calculated the next-to-leading-order supersymmetric QCD corrections to neutral Higgs production through the parton processes q qbar, gg -> t tbar / b bbar + h/H/A and present results for the total cross sections. The genuine …
We explore for the first time the possibilities to measure an intermediate-mass (mH = 115-140 GeV/c^2) Standard-Model Higgs boson in electromagnetic proton-lead (pPb) interactions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) via its b-bbar decay. Using equivalent Weizsaecker-Williams photon fluxes and Higgs effective field theory for the coupling gamma-gamma --> H, we obtain a leading-order cross section of the order of 0.3 pb for exclusive Higgs production in elastic (pPb --> gamma-gamma --> p H Pb) and semielastic (pPb --> gamma-gamma --> Pb H X) processes at sqrt(s) = 8.8 TeV. After applying var…
Measurement of the Gamma(h -> gamma gamma)Br(h -> b bbar) at the Photon Collider at TESLA is studied for the Standard Model Higgs boson with mass of 120 to 160 GeV. The NLO estimation of background, analysis of overlaying events, realistic b-tagging and corrections for escaping neutrinos were performed. We find that for M_h = 120-160 GeV the Gamma(h -> gamma gamma)Br(h -> b bbar) can be measured with a statistical accuracy of 2-7% after one year of the Photon Collider running.
A method to calculate heavy flavor visible-level cross sections at Next-to-Leading Order (NLO) in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), based on an interface of the FMNR program to PYTHIA, is described. It uses the NLO prediction at quark level provided by FMNR, with a statistical reduction procedure (REDSTAT) that allows a link to PYTHIA 6.2 to be made, from where the description of the full hadron fragmentation and decay chain is obtained. The method is applied to ep -> b bbar X -> D* mu X and mu+ mu- X final states at HERA. Comparisons of the data and NLO cross sections at visible and b-quark level…
We establish the existence of the top quark using a 67 pb^-1 data sample of Pbar-P collisions at Sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). Employing techniques similar to those we previously published, we observe a signal consistent with t-tbar decay to WW b-bbar, but inconsistent with the background prediction by 4.8 sigma. Additional evidence for the top quark is provided by a peak in the reconstructed mass distribution. We measure the top quark mass to be 176 +/-8(stat) +/- 10(sys.) GeV/c^2, and the t-tbar production cross section to be 6.8 +3.6 -2.4 pb.
The recent developments on the computation of non-resonant corrections to the e+ e- -> W+ W- b bbar cross section in the top-antitop resonance region are reviewed in this talk. Non-resonant production of the final state W+ W- b bbar starts to contribute at NLO in the nonrelativistic power-counting v ~ alpha_s ~ sqrt(alpha_EW). The corrections induced by non-resonant effects reduce the cross section in the top-antitop resonance peak region at a level which is comparable to the expected experimental precision at the future linear collider, and are thus relevant for a high-precision top mass and …
I present analytical expressions for the collinear and soft gluon corrections to Higgs production via the process b bbar -> H as well as gg -> H through next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (NNNLO). The soft corrections are complete while the collinear corrections include leading and some subleading logarithms. Numerical results at the Tevatron and the LHC are presented, primarily for b bbar -> H. It is shown that the collinear terms greatly improve the soft and virtual approximation at next-to-leading order (NLO) and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO), especially when subleading terms are …
The Higgs boson H of the Standard Model can be searched for in the channels p pbar / pp -> t tbar H + X at the Tevatron and the LHC. The cross sections for these processes and the final-state distributions of the Higgs boson and top quarks are presented at next-to-leading order QCD. To calculate these QCD corrections, a special calculational technique for pentagon diagrams has been developed and the dipole subtraction formalism has been adopted for massive particles. The impact of the corrections on the total cross sections is characterized by K factors, the ratios of the cross sections in nex…
We present the azimuthal correlations in the decay products of the top quark pair created in the process $gg \to t \tbar \to b \bbar \wplus \wminus$ calculated in leading-order QCD. We then discuss deviations in this distribution that could arise from New Physics contributions, focusing, in particular, on the case of a new heavy scalar coupling to the top quark and produced via the gluon fusion mechanism. Within this scenario we consider two cases: one in which the top quark is the only particle with a significant coupling to the scalar and another in which there are additional heavy fermions …
The associated production of a Higgs boson with a b quark is a discovery mode for an MSSM Higgs boson at large tan beta. We compute the SUSY QCD corrections from gluino and squark loops to this process and combine them with the order alpha_s^2 NLO QCD corrections to obtain reliable predictions for the rate. Finally, we compare our results with an effective Lagrangian approximation which includes only the low energy corrections from squark and gluino loops to the b- bbar- Higgs vertices.
In this short review we discuss two implementations of the charged Higgs boson production process in association with a top quark in Monte Carlo event generators at next-to-leading order in QCD. We introduce the MC@NLO and the POWHEG method of matching next-to-leading order matrix elements with parton showers and compare both methods analyzing the charged Higgs boson production process in association with a top quark. We shortly discuss the case of a light charged Higgs boson where the associated charged Higgs production interferes with the charged Higgs production via t tbar-production and su…
We study the Higgs boson decays $h^0 \to c \bar{c}, b \bar{b}, b \bar{s}, γγ, g g$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with general quark flavor violation (QFV), identifying the $h^0$ as the Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV. We compute the widths of the $h^0$ decays to $c \bar c, b \bar b, b \bar s (s \bar b)$ at full one-loop level. For the $h^0$ decays to photon photon and gluon gluon we compute the widths at NLO QCD level. We perform a systematic MSSM parameter scan respecting all the relevant constraints, i.e. theoretical constraints from vacuum stability conditions and e…
We present the predictions at next-to-leading order (NLO) in the strong coupling for the single-top cross section in the t channel at the Tevatron and the LHC. Our calculation starts from the 2 -> 3 Born amplitude g q -> t bbar q', keeping the b-quark mass non-zero. A comparison is performed with a traditional NLO calculation of this channel based on the 2 -> 2 Born process with a bottom quark in the initial state. In particular, the effect of using kinematic approximations and resumming logarithms of the form log(Q^2/m_b^2) in the 2 -> 2 process is assessed. Our results show that the 2 -> 3 c…
We study the sensitivity of the ATLAS experiment to Wtb anomalous couplings in top pair production with semileptonic decay, pp -> t tbar -> W+ b W- bbar, with one of the W bosons decaying leptonically and the other hadronically. Several observables are examined, including the W helicity fractions and new quantities recently introduced, such as the ratios of helicity fractions and some angular asymmetries defined in the W rest frame. The dependence on anomalous couplings of all these observables has been previously obtained. In this work we show that some of the new observables also have smalle…
A brief summary of the calculation of the NLO QCD corrections to the process pp -> e+ ve mu- v_mu bb~ j + X is reported. This provides a complete description of the process of t-tbar + jet production with leptonic decays beyond the narrow-width approximation. Off-shell effects for top quarks and W boson decays are fully taken into account, namely all resonant and non-resonant contributions are included in the fixed-order calculation. Selected results for total and differential cross sections are shown for the case of the LHC Run I at the energy of 8 TeV.
In this proceedings contribution, I review recent work that aims to provide a more comprehensive and systematic understanding of bottomonium dynamics in the quark-gluon plasma using an open quantum system (OQS) approach that is applied in the framework of the potential non-relativistic QCD (pNRQCD) effective field theory and coupled to realistic hydrodynamical backgrounds that have been tuned to soft hadron observables. I review how the computation of bottomonium suppression can be reduced to solving a Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan-Lindblad (GKSL) equation for the evolution of the b-bbar reduce…
Precision predictions for phenomenologically interesting observables such as the t-tbar invariant mass distribution and forward-backward asymmetry in top-quark pair production at hadron colliders require control over the differential cross section in perturbative QCD. In this paper we improve existing calculations of the doubly differential cross section in the invariant mass and scattering angle by using techniques from soft-collinear effective theory to perform an NNLL resummation of threshold logarithms, which become large when the invariant mass M of the top-quark pair approaches the parto…
