The density matrix expansion (DME) of Negele and Vautherin is a convenient tool to map finite-range physics associated with vacuum two- and three-nucleon interactions into the form of a Skyme-like energy density functional (EDF) with density-dependent couplings. In this work, we apply the improved formulation of the DME proposed recently in arXiv:0910.4979 by Gebremariam {\it et al.} to the non-local Fock energy obtained from chiral effective field theory (EFT) two-nucleon (NN) interactions at next-to-next-to-leading-order (N$^2$LO). The structure of the chiral interactions is such that each coupling in the DME Fock functional can be decomposed into a cutoff-dependent coupling {\it constant} arising from zero-range contact interactions and a cutoff-independent coupling {\it function} of the density arising from the universal long-range pion exchanges. This motivates a new microscopically-guided Skyrme phenomenology where the density-dependent couplings associated with the underlying pion-exchange interactions are added to standard empirical Skyrme functionals, and the density-independent Skyrme parameters subsequently refit to data. A Mathematica notebook containing the novel density-dependent couplings is provided.
We present a new Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov nuclear-mass model in which the contact-pairing force is constructed from microscopic pairing gaps of symmetric nuclear matter and neutron matter calculated from realistic two- and three-body forces, with medium-polarization effects included. With the pairing being treated more realistically than in any of our earlier models, the rms deviation with respect to essentially all the available mass data falls to 0.581 MeV, the best value ever found within the mean-field framework. Since our Skyrme force is also constrained by the properties of pure ne…
In a recent series of papers, Gebremariam, Bogner, and Duguet derived a microscopically based nuclear energy density functional by applying the Density Matrix Expansion (DME) to the Hartree-Fock energy obtained from chiral effective field theory (EFT) two- and three-nucleon interactions. Due to the structure of the chiral interactions, each coupling in the DME functional is given as the sum of a coupling constant arising from zero-range contact interactions and a coupling function of the density arising from the finite-range pion exchanges. Since the contact contributions have essentially the …
A low-momentum nucleon-nucleon (NN) potential V-low-k is derived from modern realistic NN potentials by integrating out the high-momentum modes. The smooth V-low-k may be used as input for nuclear structure calculations instead of the usual Brueckner G matrix. Such an approach eliminates the energy dependence one finds in the G-matrix approach, allowing this interaction to be used directly in Hartree-Fock calculations. Bulk properties of 16O have been calculated starting from different NN potentials. Our results, obtained including up to second order contributions in the Goldstone expansion, a…
We calculate self-consistent single-nucleon and single-Lambda potentials in hyperonic matter for different Lambda concentrations. The predictions include relativistic Dirac effects as reported previously in a calculation of the Lambda binding energy in symmetric nuclear matter. We discuss the dependence on momentum, density, and Lambda fraction.
The properties of neutron star are studied in the framework of relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) model with realistic nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interactions, i.e. Bonn potentials. The strong repulsion of $NN$ interaction at short range is properly removed by the unitary correlation operator method (UCOM). Meanwhile, the tensor correlation is neglected due to the very rich neutron environment in neutron star, where the total isospin of two nucleons can be approximately regarded as $T=1$. The equations of state of neutron star matter are calculated in $β$ equilibrium and charge neutrality conditions.…
By introducing a density-dependent contact term, M3Y-type interactions applicable to the Hartree-Fock calculations are developed. In order to view basic characters of the interactions, we carry out calculations on the uniform nuclear matter as well as on several doubly magic nuclei. It is shown that a parameter-set called M3Y-P2 describes various properties similarly well to the Skyrme SLy5 and/or the Gogny D1S interactions. A remarkable difference from the SLy5 and the D1S interactions is found in the spin-isospin properties in the nuclear matter, to which the one-pion-exchange potential give…
We explore the use of mean field models to approximate microscopic nuclear equations of state derived from chiral effective field theory across the densities and temperatures relevant for simu- lating astrophysical phenomena such as core-collapse supernovae and binary neutron star mergers. We consider both relativistic mean field theory with scalar and vector meson exchange as well as energy density functionals based on Skyrme phenomenology and compare to thermodynamic equa- tions of state derived from chiral two- and three-nucleon forces in many-body perturbation theory. Quantum Monte Carlo s…
The microscopic mechanisms of the symmetry energy in nuclear matter are investigated in the framework of the relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) model with a high-precision realistic nuclear potential, pvCDBonn A. The kinetic energy and potential contributions to symmetry energy are decomposed. They are explicitly expressed by the nucleon self-energies, which are obtained through projecting the $G$-matrices from the RBHF model into the terms of Lorentz covariants. The nuclear medium effects on the nucleon self-energy and nucleon-nucleon interaction in symmetry energy are discussed by co…
We present a relativistic chiral effective theory for symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter taken in the Hartree-Fock scheme. The nuclear binding is insured by a background chiral invariant scalar field associated with the radial fluctuations of the chiral quark condensate. Nuclear matter saturation is obtained once the scalar response of the nucleon generating three-body repulsive forces is incorporated. For these parameters related to the scalar sector and quark confinement mechanism inside the nucleon we make use of an analysis of lattice results on the nucleon mass evolution with the qua…
Shell structures in the N\simeq Z nucleus ^{17}O and the neutron-rich oxygen isotopes ^{23}O and ^{25}O are microscopically described by calculating single-particle energies with modern nucleon-nucleon interactions within the framework of the unitary-model-operator approach. It is found that the effect of three-body cluster terms on the single-particle energy is more important in ^{23}O and ^{25}O than ^{17}O.
The isospin dependence of the nucleon effective mass is investigated in the framework of the Dirac Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach. The definition of nucleon scalar and vector effective masses in the relativistic approach is clarified. Only the vector effective mass is the quantity related to the empirical value extracted from the analysis in the nonrelatiistic shell and optical potentials. In the relativistic mean field theory, where the nucleon scalar and vector potentials are both energy independent, the neutron vector potential is stronger than that of proton in the neutron rich nuc…
Relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (RHFB) theory with density-dependent meson-nucleon couplings is presented. The integro-differential RHFB equations are solved by expanding the different components of the quasi-particle spinors in the complete set of eigen-solutions of the Dirac equations with Woods-Saxon potentials. Using the finite-range Gogny force D1S as an effective interaction in the pairing channel, systematic RHFB calculations are performed for Sn isotopes and N=82 isotones. It is demonstrated that an appropriate description of both mean field and pairing effects can be obtained wit…
The nucleon-pair approximation (NPA) can be a compact alternative to full configuration-interaction (FCI) diagonalization in nuclear shell-model spaces, but selecting good pairs is a long-standing problem. While seniority-based pairs work well for near-spherical nuclides, they do not work well for deformed nuclides with strong rotational bands. We propose an alternate approach. We show how one can write any Slater determinant for an even number of particles as a general pair condensate, from which one can project out pairs of good angular momentum. We implement this by generating unconstrained…
The relativistic optical model potential (OMP) for nucleon-nucleus scattering is investigated in the framework of Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach using the Bonn-B One-Boson- Exchange potential for the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction. Both real and imaginary parts of isospin-dependent nucleon self-energies in nuclear medium are derived from the DBHF approach based on the projection techniques within the subtracted T -matrix representation. The Dirac potentials as well as the corresponding Schrodinger equivalent potentials are evaluated. An improved local density approximation is e…
The relativistic Hartree approximation predicts a deep attractive potential for antinucleon, which largely reduce the threshold energies of the nucleon-antinucleon (N-Nbar) production. This effect has played an important role to explain the quenching of the Gamow-Teller (GT) strength because the quenched strength in the particle-hole excitation is partially taken by the nucleon-antinucleon production. On the other hand antiproton experiments do not reveal deep attractive potential for antinucleon. In this paper we study energy-dependence of the nucleon self-energies in the relativistic Hartree…
We examine a recently proposed nucleon-nucleon interaction, claimed by its authors both realistic and leading to a standing wave instability in symmetric nuclear matter. Contrary to these claims, we find that this interaction leads to a serious overbinding of 4He, 16O and 40Ca nuclei when the Hartree-Fock method is properly applied. The resulting nuclear densities contradict the experimental data and all realistic Hartree-Fock results.
The understanding of the interaction of nucleons in nuclear and neutron-rich matter at non-zero temperature is important for a variety of applications ranging from heavy-ion collisions to nuclear astrophysics. In this paper we apply the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock method along with the Bonn B nucleon-nucleon potential to predict single-particle properties in symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter at finite temperature. It is found that temperature effects are generally small but can be significant at low density and momentum.
The Microscopic Otical Model Potential is evaluated within a relativistic scheme which provides a natural and consistent relation between the spin-orbit part and the central part of the potential. The Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) approach provides such a microscopic relativistic scheme, which is based on a realistic nucleon-nucleon interaction and reproduce the saturation properties of symmetric nuclear matter without any adjustable parameter. Its solution using the projection technique within the subtracted T-matrix (STM) representation provides a reliable extension to asymmetric nucle…
We present a microscopic calculation of multi-nucleon transfer reactions employing the time-dependent Hartree-Fock (TDHF) theory. In our previous publication [Phys. Rev. C 88, 014614 (2013)], we reported our analysis for the multi-nucleon transfer processes for several systems. Here we discuss effects of particle evaporation processes on the production cross sections. Since particle evaporation processes may not be described adequately by the TDHF calculations, we evaluate them using a statistical model. As an input of the statistical model, excitation energies of the final fragments are neces…
The nucleon single-particle energies (SPEs) of the selected nuclei, that is, 16O, 40Ca, and 56Ni, are obtained by using the diagonal matrix elements of two-body effective interaction, which generated through the lowest order constrained variational (LOCV) calculations for the symmetric nuclear matter with the AV18 phenomenological nucleon-nucleon potential. The SPEs at the major levels of nuclei are calculated by employing a Hartree-Fock inspired scheme in the spherical harmonic oscillator basis. In the scheme, the correlation influences are taken into account by imposing the nucleon effective…
A new relativistic Hartree-Fock approach with density-dependent $σ$, $ω$, $ρ$ and $π$ meson-nucleon couplings for finite nuclei and nuclear matter is presented. Good description for finite nuclei and nuclear matter is achieved with a number of adjustable parameters comparable to that of the relativistic mean field approach. With the Fock terms, the contribution of the $π$-meson is included and the description for the nucleon effective mass and its isospin and energy dependence is improved.
We predict the energy per baryon in nuclear matter with non-zero fraction of $Λ$ hyperons. We include Dirac effects on the nucleons as well as the $Λ$ and describe how the latter is implemented. We use the nucleon-hyperon meson-exchange potentials from the Juelich group, the latest as well as an earlier version. The dependence of the results on the many-body framework and on the nucleon-hyperon interaction model is discussed.
The momentum dependence of the mean-field contribution to the real part of the optical model potential is investigated employing realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. Within a non-relativistic approach a momentum dependence originates from the non-locality of the Fock exchange term. Deducing the real part of the optical model from a relativistic Dirac Brueckner Hartree Fock approximation for the self-energy of the nucleons yields an additional momentum dependence originating from the non-relativistic reduction of the self-energy. It is demonstrated that large Fock terms are required in the n…
We compare nuclear and neutron matter predictions based on two different ab initio approaches to nuclear forces and the nuclear many-body problem. The first consists of a realistic meson-theoretic nucleon-nucleon potential together with the relativistic counterpart of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory of nuclear matter. The second is based on chiral effective field theory, with density-dependent interactions derived from leading order chiral three-nucleon forces. We find the results to be very close and conclude that both approaches contain important features governing the physics of nuclear a…
The inelastic scattering of neutrino off 4He is calculated microscopically at energies typical for core collapse supernova environment. The calculation is carried out with the Argonne V18 nucleon--nucleon potential and the Urbana IX three nucleon force. Full final state interaction is included via the Lorentz integral transform (LIT) method. The contribution of axial meson exchange currents to the cross sections is taken into account from effective field theory of nucleons and pions to order O(Q^3).
Two-neutron transfer reactions are studied within the interacting boson model based on the nuclear energy density functional theory. Constrained self-consistent mean-field calculations with the Skyrme energy density functional are performed to provide microscopic input to completely determine the Hamiltonian of the IBM. Spectroscopic properties are calculated only from the nucleonic degrees of freedom. This method is applied to study the $(t,p)$ and $(p,t)$ transfer reactions in the assorted set of rare-earth nuclei $^{146-158}$Sm, $^{148-160}$Gd, and $^{150-162}$Dy, where spherical-to-axially…
Feshbach's projection formalism in the particle-hole model space leads to a microscopic description of scattering in terms of the many-body self-energy. To investigate the feasibility of this approach, an optical potential for O-16 is constructed starting from two previous calculations of the self-energy for this nucleus. The results reproduce the background phase shifts for positive parity waves and the resonances beyond the mean field. The latter can be computed microscopically for energies of astrophysical interest using Green's function theory.
We calculate the effective masses of neutrons and protons in dense nuclear matter within the microscopic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock many-body theory and study the impact on the neutrino emissivity processes of neutron stars. We compare results based on different nucleon-nucleon potentials and nuclear three-body forces. Useful parametrizations of the numerical results are given. We find substantial in-medium suppression of the emissivities, strongly dependent on the interactions.
The mean field description of nuclear matter in the quark-meson coupling model is improved by the inclusion of exchange contributions (Fock terms). The inclusion of Fock terms allows us to explore the momentum dependence of meson-nucleon vertices and the role of pionic degrees of freedom in matter. It is found that the Fock terms maintain the previous predictions of the model for the in-medium properties of the nucleon and for the nuclear incompressibility. The Fock terms significantly increase the absolute values of the single-particle, four-component scalar and vector potentials, a feature t…
One of the open problems in nuclear structure is how to predict properties of finite nuclei from the knowledge of a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction of the meson-exchange type. We point out that a promising starting point consists in Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (DBHF) calculations us- ing realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions like the Bonn potentials, which are able to reproduce satisfactorily the properties of symmetric nuclear matter without the need for 3-body forces, as is necessary in non-relativistic BHF calculations. However, the DBHF formalism is still too com- plicated to be used di…
Starting with a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction, for the first time the full relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock equations are solved for finite nuclei in a Dirac-Woods-Saxon basis. No free parameters are introduced to calculate the ground-state properties of finite nuclei. The nucleus $^{16}$O is investigated as an example. The resulting ground-state properties, such as binding energy and charge radius, are considerably improved as compared with the non-relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock results and much closer to the experimental data. This opens the door for \emph{ab initio} covariant inv…
The spherical Hartree-Fock approximation is applied to the $abinitio$ no-core shell model, with a realistic effective nucleon-nucleon interaction in order to investigate the range of its utility. Hartree-Fock results for binding energies, one-body density distributions and occupation probabilities are compared with results from exact diagonalization in similar model spaces. We show that this mean field approximation, especially with second order corrections, is able to provide some useful approximatons for $^4He$ and $^{16}O$. We also explore the physical insights provided by the Hartree-Fock …
It is shown that the ten generators of the Poincare group acting in the Fock space of nucleons and mesons and based on standard Lagrangians can be blockdiagonalized by one and the same unitary transformation such that the space of a fixed number of nucleons is separated from the rest of the Fock space. The existence proof is carried through in a formal power series expansion in the coupling constant to all orders. In this manner one arrives at effective generators of the Poincare group which act in the two subspaces separately.
We discuss the conservation of angular momentum in nuclear time-dependent Hartree-Fock calculations for a numerical representation of wave functions and potentials on a three-dimensional cartesian grid. Free rotation of a deformed nucleus performs extremely well even for relatively coarse spatial grids. Heavy ion collisions produce a highly excited compound system associated with substantial nucleon emission. These emitted nucleons reach the bounds of the numerical box which leads to a decrease of angular momentum. We discuss strategies to distinguish the physically justified loss from numeric…
We construct phenomenologically a relativistic particle-particle channel interaction which suits the gap equation for nuclear matter. This is done by introducing a density-independent momentum-cutoff parameter to the relativistic mean field (Hartree and Hartree-Fock) models so as to reproduce the pairing properties obtained by the Bonn-B potential and not to change the saturation property. The interaction so obtained can be used for the Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov calculation, but some reservation is necessary for the Relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculation.
Spherical Hartree--Fock calculations with projection onto zero total linear momentum before the variation are performed for the nuclei 4He, 12C, 16O, 28Si, 32S and 40Ca using a density--independent effective nucleon--nucleon interaction. The results are compared to those of usual spherical Hartree--Fock calculations subtracting the kinetic energy of the center of mass motion either before or after the variation and to the results obtained analytically with oscillator occupations. Total energies, hole--energies, elastic charge form factors and charge densities and the mathematical Coulomb sum r…
The Brueckner--Hartree--Fock formalism is applied to study spin polarized neutron matter properties. Results of the total energy per particle as a function of the spin polarization and density are presented for two modern realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions, Nijmegen II and Reid93. We find that the dependence of the energy on the spin polarization is practically parabolic in the full range of polarizations. The magnetic susceptibility of the system is computed. Our results show no indication of a ferromagnetic transition which becomes even more difficult as the density increases.
We consider the thermal conductivity, shear viscosity, and momentum relaxation rates in the nucleon cores of the neutron stars. We study how the choice of the nuclear interaction and the model for three-body forces may affect these transport coefficients calculated within the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock many-body nuclear theory. We find that at relatively large densities the model dependence of the results is substantial. In addition we provide the analytical approximations which allow to incorporate our results in practical simulations.
Effective Lagrangians suitable for a relativistic Hartree-Fock description of nuclear systems are presented. They include the 4 effective mesons $σ, ω, ρ$ and $π$ with density-dependent meson-nucleon couplings. The criteria for determining the model parameters are the reproduction of the binding energies in a number of selected nuclei, and the bulk properties of nuclear matter (saturation point, compression modulus, symmetry energy). An excellent description of nuclear binding energies and radii is achieved for a range of nuclei encompassing light and heavy systems. The predictions of the pres…
Using relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) approximation, we study the effect of Fock terms on the nuclear properties not only around the saturation density, $ρ_{0}$, but also at higher densities. In particular, we investigate how the momentum dependence due to the exchange contribution affects the nuclear symmetry energy and its slope parameter, using the Lorentz-covariant decomposition of nucleon self-energies in an extended version of the RHF model, in which the exchange terms are adjusted so as to reproduce the single-nucleon potential at $ρ_{0}$. We find that the Fock contribution suppresses t…
The total photoabsorption cross sections of 6He and 6Li are calculated microscopically with full inclusion of the six-nucleon final state interaction using semirealistic nucleon-nucleon potentials. The Lorentz Integral Transform (LIT) method and the effective interaction approach for the hyperspherical formalism are employed. While 6Li has a single broad giant resonance peak, there are two well separated peaks for 6He corresponding to the breakup of the neutron halo and the alpha core, respectively. The comparison with the few available experimental data is discussed.
We investigate giant resonances of spherical nuclei on the basis of the Argonne V18 potential after unitary transformation within the Similarity Renormalization Group or the Unitary Correlation Operator Method supplemented by a phenomenological three-body contact interaction. Such Hamiltonians can provide a good description of ground-state energies and radii within Hartree-Fock plus low-order many-body perturbation theory. The standard Random Phase Approximation is applied here to calculate the isoscalar monopole, isovector dipole, and isoscalar quadrupole excitation modes of the 40Ca, 90Zr, a…
We present the first of a two-part Mathematica notebook collection that implements a symbolic approach for the application of the density matrix expansion (DME) to the Hartree-Fock (HF) energy from a chiral effective field theory (EFT) three-nucleon interaction at N$^2$LO. The final output from the notebooks is a Skyrme-like energy density functional that provides a quasi-local approximation to the nonlocal HF energy. In this paper, we discuss the derivation of the HF energy and its simplification in terms of the scalar/vector-isoscalar/isovector parts of the one-body density matrix. Furthermo…
In order to simulate the relativistic effects of the Dirac Brueckner Hartree Fock approach for finite nuclei the part of the Urbana 3 nucleon (3N) force is considered, which represents the enhancement of the small components of the Dirac spinors for the nucleons in the nuclear medium. This 3N force is included in a Brueckner Hartree Fock calculation with rearrangement terms using a realistic model for the NN interaction. The strength of the 3N force is adjusted to reproduce the empirical saturation point of nuclear matter and then used in corresponding studies of the closed shell nuclei $^{16}…
In this paper, we investigate the ground state properties ($i.e$ binding energy, nuclear radius, radial density distribution and single particle energies) for $^{4}He$ and $^{12}C$ nuclei at equilibrium and at large static compression at zero temperature by using two realistic different potentials namely, Nijmegen and Reid Soft Core (RSC)potentials. We carry out the calculations in No-Core Shell Model space consisting of six major oscillator shells within the framework of the Constrained Spherical Hartree- Fock (CSHF) approximations. We find out that, the computed equilibrium root mean square …
Vertex corrections are taken into account in the Schwinger-Dyson equation for the nucleon propagator in a relativistic field theory of fermions and mesons. The usual Hartree-Fock approximation for the nucleon propagator is known to produce the appearance of complex (ghost) poles which violate basic theorems of quantum field theory. In a theory with vector mesons there are vertex corrections that produce a strongly damped vertex function in the ultraviolet. One set of such corrections is known as the Sudakov form factor in quantum electrodynamics. When the Sudakov form factor generated by massi…
Recently, a microscopically motivated nuclear energy density functional was derived by applying the density matrix expansion to the Hartree-Fock (HF) energy obtained from long-range chiral effective field theory two- and three-nucleon interactions. However, the HF approach cannot account for all many-body correlations. One class of correlations is included by Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (BHF) theory, which gives an improved definition of the one-body HF potential by replacing the interaction by a reaction matrix $G$. In this paper, we find that the difference between the $G$-matrix and the nucleon-…
Semi-realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions applicable to the self-consistent mean-field (both Hartree-Fock and Hartree-Fock-Bogolyubov) calculations are developed, by modifying the M3Y interaction. The modification is made so as to reproduce binding energies and rms matter radii of doubly magic nuclei, single-particle levels in $^{208}$Pb, and even-odd mass differences of the Sn isotopes. We find parameter-sets with and without the tensor force. The new interactions are further checked by the saturation properties of the uniform nuclear matter including the Landau-Migdal parameters. By the me…
Neutron drops confined in an external field are studied in the framework of relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory using the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction. The ground state energies and radii of neutron drops with even numbers from $N = 4$ to $N=50$ are calculated and compared with results obtained from other nonrelativistic \textit{ab initio} calculations and from relativistic density functional theory. Special attention has been paid to the magic numbers and to the sub-shell closures. The single-particle energies are investigated and the monopole effect of the tensor force on the evol…
The Li7 total photoabsorption cross section is calculated microscopically. As nucleon-nucleon interaction the semi-realistic central AV4' potential with S- and P-wave forces is taken. The interaction of the final 7-nucleon system is fully taken into account via the Lorentz Integral Transform (LIT) method. For the calculation of the LIT we use expansions in hyperspherical harmonics (HH) in conjunction with the HH effective interaction (EIHH) approach. The convergence of the LIT expansion is discussed in detail. The calculated cross section agrees quite well with the available experimental data,…
The modified HFB (MHFB) theory at finite temperature is derived, which conserves the unitarity relation of the particle-density matrix. This is achieved by constructing a modified quasiparticle-density matrix, where the fluctuation of the quasiparticle number is microscopically built in. This matrix can be directly obtained from the usual quasiparticle-density matrix by applying the secondary Bogoliubov transformation, which includes the quasiparticle occupation number. It is shown that, in the limit of constant pairing parameter, the MHFB theory yields the previously obtained modified BCS (MB…
We present a fully self-consistent and relativistic calculation of the nucleon mean free path in nuclear matter and finite nuclei. Starting from the Bonn potential, the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock results for nuclear matter are parametrized in terms of an effective $σ$-$ω$ Lagrangian suitable for the relativistic density-dependent Hartree-Fock (RDHF) approximation. The nucleon mean free path in nuclear matter is derived from this effective Lagrangian taking diagrams up to fourth-order into account. For the nucleon mean free path in finite nuclei, we make use of the density determined by the R…
The influence of short-range correlations on the momentum and energy distribution of nucleons in nuclei is evaluated assuming a realistic meson-exchange potential for the nucleon-nucleon interaction. Using the Green-function approach the calculations are performed directly for the finite nucleus $^{16}$O avoiding the local density approximation and its reference to studies of infinite nuclear matter. The nucleon-nucleon correlations induced by the short-range and tensor components of the interaction yield an enhancement of the momentum distribution at high momenta as compared to the Hartree-Fo…
Properties of nuclear matter are investigated in the framework of relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock model with the latest high-precision charge-dependent Bonn (pvCD-Bonn) potentials, where the coupling between pion and nucleon is adopted as pseudovector form. These realistic pvCD-Bonn potentials are renormalized to effective nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interactions, $G$ matrices. They are obtained by solving the Blankenbecler-Sugar (BbS) equation in nuclear medium. Then, the saturation properties of symmetric nuclear matter are calculated with pvCD-Bonn A, B, C potentials. The energies per nucleo…
Proton and neutron densities from Skyrme-Hartree-Fock (SHF) calculations are used to generate non-local (g-folding) proton-nucleus optical potentials. They are formed by folding the densities with realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions. The potentials are then used to calculate differential cross sections and spin observables for proton scattering. Good agreement with data has been found, supporting those found previously when using SHF charge densities in analyses of electron scattering data. That agreement was improved by use of (shell model) occupation numbers to constrain the HF iterations…
Starting from the relativistic form of the Bonn potential as a bare nucleon-nucleon interaction, the full Relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) equations are solved for finite nuclei in a fully self-consistent basis. This provides a relativistic ab initio calculation of the ground state properties of finite nuclei without any free parameters and without three-body forces. The convergence properties for the solutions of these coupled equations are discussed in detail at the example of the nucleus $^{16}$O. The binding energies, radii, and spin-orbit splittings of the doubly magic nuclei $^…
We extend the relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) theory to study the structure of single-$Λ$ hypernuclei. The density dependence is taken in both meson-nucleon and meson-hyperon coupling strengths, and the induced $Λ$-nucleon ($ΛN$) effective interactions are determined by fitting $Λ$ separation energies to the experimental data for several single-$Λ$ hypernuclei. The equilibrium of nuclear dynamics described by the RHF model in normal atomic nuclei, namely, the balance between nuclear attractive and repulsive interactions, is then found to be drastically changed in single-$Λ$ hypernuclei, reveal…
Brueckner-Hartree-Fock theory allows to derive the $G$-matrix as an effective interaction between nucleons in the nuclear medium. It depends on the center of mass momentum $\bm{P}$ of the two particles and on the two relative momenta $\bm{q}$ and $\bm{q'}$ before and after the scattering process. In the evaluation of the total energy per particle in nuclear matter usually the angle averaged center of mass momentum approximation has been used. We derive in detail the exact expressions of the angular integrations of the momentum $\bm{P}$ within relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (RBHF) theory, …
