Many results have been recently obtained regarding the power of hypothetical closed time-like curves (CTCs) in quantum computation. Here we show that the one-way model of measurement-based quantum computation encompasses in a natural way the CTC model proposed by Bennett, Schumacher and Svetlichny. We identify a class of CTCs in this model that can be simulated deterministically and point to a fundamental limitation of Deutsch's CTC model which leads to predictions conflicting with those of the one-way model.
We show that qubits traveling along closed timelike curves are a resource that a party can exploit to distinguish perfectly any set of quantum states. As a result, an adversary with access to closed timelike curves can break any prepare-and-measure quantum key distribution protocol. Our result also implies that a party with access to closed timelike curves can violate the Holevo bound.

In orthodox quantum theory the observables of spacelike separated quantum systems commute. I shall call this the commutation constraint. It severely limits quantum theory's explanatory power. For instance, the constraint cannot be met in the presence of closed timelike curves, leaving us with no choice but to rule them out by fiat. It also conflicts with Bekenstein's bound. We study the nature of entanglement in presence of Deutschian closed timelike curves (D-CTCs) and we observe that qubits traveling along a D-CTC allow unambiguous discrimination of Bell states with Local Operations and Classical Communications (LOCC), that is otherwise known to be impossible. A consequence of this leads us to discover that localized D-CTCs can create entanglement, using just local operations and classical communication. This contradicts the fundamental definition of entanglement.
In arXiv:1107.4675 Ralph uses our post-selection model of closed timelike curves (P-CTC) to construct an "unproven-theorem" paradox, and claims that this voids our argument that P-CTCs are able to resolve such types of paradoxes. Here we point out that Ralph has not accounted for all the interactions needed for his construction. A more careful analysis confirms that indeed there is no paradox, contrary to his claims.
We respond to the comment by Klobus, et al by emphasizing that the equivalent circuit, once constructed, obeys the standard rules of quantum mechanics - hence there is no ambiguity in how to choose initial states in our model. We discuss the distinction between correlated ensembles produced non-locally via measurements on entangled states and those produced via local preparation.
Closed Timelike Curves are relativistically valid objects allowing time travel to the past. We discuss the concept of proper and improper density matrixes and we argue that this issue is of fundamental importance for the understanding of the quantum-mechanical CTC model proposed by Deutsch. We arrive at the conclusion that under a realistic interpretation, the distinction between proper and improper density operators is not a relativistically covariant notion and this fact leads to the conclusion that the D-CTC model is physically inconsistent.

It is known that a party with access to a Deutschian closed timelike curve (D-CTC) can perfectly distinguish multiple non-orthogonal quantum states. In this paper, we propose a practical method for discriminating multiple non-orthogonal states, by using a previously known quantum circuit designed to simulate D-CTCs. Einstein's field equations of gravitation are known to admit closed timelike curve (CTC) solutions. Deutsch approached the problem from the quantum information point of view and proposed a self-consistency condition. In this work, the Deutsch equation is formulated as an eigenvalue problem. The disappearance of entanglement between two qubits in an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) state near a CTC is demonstrated. A computer which has access to a closed timelike curve, and can thereby send the results of calculations into its own past, can exploit this to solve difficult computational problems efficiently. I give a specific demonstration of this for the problem of factoring large numbers, and argue that a similar approach can solve NP-complete and PSPACE-complete problems. I discuss the potential impact of quantum effects on this result.

We present a global metric describing closed timelike curves embedded in Minkowski spacetime. Physically, the metric represents an Alcubierre warp drive on a rotating platform. The physical realizability of such a metric is uncertain due to the exotic matter required to produce it. Never-the-less we suggest that this metric will have applications in more rigorously studying the behavior of quantum fields interacting with closed timelike curves.
