In this note, we study the infinite-dimensional conditional laws of Brownian semistationary processes. Motivated by the fact that these processes are typically not semimartingales, we present sufficient conditions ensuring that a Brownian semistationary process has conditional full support, a property introduced by Guasoni, Rásonyi, and Schachermayer [Ann. Appl. Probab., 18 (2008) pp. 491--520]. By the results of Guasoni, Rásonyi, and Schachermayer, this property has two important implications. It ensures, firstly, that the process admits no free lunches under proportional transaction costs, and secondly, that it can be approximated pathwise (in the sup norm) by semimartingales that admit equivalent martingale measures.
In this paper we introduce the \textit{multivariate} Brownian semistationary (BSS) processes and study the joint asymptotic behaviour of its realised covariation using in-fill asymptotics. First, we present a central limit theorem for general stationary multivariate Gaussian processes, which are not necessarily semimartingales. Then, we show weak laws of large numbers, central limit theorems and feasible results for BSS processes. An explicit example based on the so-called gamma kernels is also provided.
In this paper we find a pathwise decomposition of a certain class of Brownian semistationary processes ($\mathcal{BSS}$) in terms of fractional Brownian motions. To do this, we specialize in the case when the kernel of the $\mathcal{BSS}$ is given by $φ_α\left(x\right)=L\left(x\right)x^α$ with $α\in(-1/2,0)\cup(0,1/2)$ and $L$ a continuous function slowly varying at zero. We use this decomposition to study some path properties and derive Itô's formula for this subclass of $\mathcal{BSS}$ processes.
In this article we will introduce the realised semicovariance for Brownian semistationary (BSS) processes, which is obtained from the decomposition of the realised covariance matrix into components based on the signs of the returns, and study its in-fill asymptotic properties. More precisely, a weak convergence in the space of càdlàg functions endowed with the Skorohod topology for the realised semicovariance of a general Gaussian process with stationary increments is proved first. The methods are based on Breuer-Major theorems and on a moment bound for sums of products of Gaussian vector's fu…
This article presents a weak law of large numbers and a central limit theorem for the scaled realised covariation of a bivariate Brownian semistationary process. The novelty of our results lies in the fact that we derive the suitable asymptotic theory both in a multivariate setting and outside the classical semimartingale framework. The proofs rely heavily on recent developments in Malliavin calculus.
This article presents various weak laws of large numbers for the so-called realised covariation of a bivariate stationary stochastic process which is not a semimartingale. More precisely, we consider two cases: Bivariate moving average processes with stochastic correlation and bivariate Brownian semistationary processes with stochastic correlation. In both cases, we can show that the (possibly scaled) realised covariation converges to the integrated (possibly volatility modulated) stochastic correlation process.
We introduce a simulation scheme for Brownian semistationary processes, which is based on discretizing the stochastic integral representation of the process in the time domain. We assume that the kernel function of the process is regularly varying at zero. The novel feature of the scheme is to approximate the kernel function by a power function near zero and by a step function elsewhere. The resulting approximation of the process is a combination of Wiener integrals of the power function and a Riemann sum, which is why we call this method a hybrid scheme. Our main theoretical result describes …
Sticky Brownian motion on the real line can be obtained as a weak solution of a system of stochastic differential equations. We find the conditional distribution of the process given the driving Brownian motion, both at an independent exponential time and at a fixed time t>0. As a classical problem, we find the distribution of the occupation times of a half-line, and at 0, which is the sticky point for the process.
We calculate the regular conditional future law of the fractional Brownian motion with index $H\in(0,1)$ conditioned on its past. We show that the conditional law is continuous with respect to the conditioning path. We investigate the path properties of the conditional process and the asymptotic behavior of the conditional covariance.
We prove tightness of a family of path measures $ν_{\varepsilon}$ on tubes $L(\varepsilon)$ of small diameters around a closed and connected submanifold $L$ of another Riemannian manifold $M$. Together with a convergence result for Dirichlet semigroups on tubular neighbourhoods, that implies weak convergence of the measures as the tube radius $\varepsilon$ tends to zero to a measure supported by the path space of the submanifold. As a consequence, we obtain weak convergence of the measures obtained by conditioning Brownian motion to stay within the tubes $L(\varepsilon)$ up to a finite time $T…
We introduce the notion of a conditional distribution to a zero-probability event in a given direction of approximation, and prove that the conditional distribution of a family of independent Brownian particles to the event that their paths coalesce after the meeting coincides with the law of a modified massive Arratia flow, defined in [arXiv:1408.0628].
In this paper we study the stochastic differential equations driven by $G$-Brownian motion ($G$-SDEs for short). We extend the notion of conditional $G$-expectation from deterministic time to the more general optional time situation. Then, via this conditional expectation, we develop the strong Markov property for $G$-SDEs. In particular, we obtain the strong Markov property for $G$-Brownian motion. Some applications including the reflection principle for $G$-Brownian motion are also provided.
We study a branching Brownian motion $Z$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$, among obstacles scattered according to a Poisson random measure with a radially decaying intensity. Obstacles are balls with constant radius and each one works as a trap for the whole motion when hit by a particle. Considering a general offspring distribution, we derive the decay rate of the annealed probability that none of the particles of $Z$ hits a trap, asymptotically in time $t$. This proves to be a rich problem motivating the proof of a more general result about the speed of branching Brownian motion conditioned on non-extincti…
Let $B$ denote the range of the Brownian motion in $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ ($d\geq3$). For a deterministic Borel measure $ν$ on $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ we wish to find a random measure $μ$ such that the support of $μ$ is contained in $B$ and it is a solution to the equation $E(μ(A))=ν(A)$ for every Borel set $A$. We discuss when it is possible to find a solution $μ$ and in that case we construct the solution. We study several properties of $μ$ such as the probability of $μ\neq0$ and we establish a formula for the expectation of the double integral with respect to $μ\timesμ$. We calculate $μ$ in terms of the…
We prove a conditional local limit theorem for discrete-time fractional Brownian motions (dfBm) with Hurst parameter 3/4<H<1. Using results from infinite ergodic theory it is then shown that the properly scaled occupation time of dfBm converges to a Mittag-Leffler distribution.
We consider the tributary structure of Howard's drainage model studied by Gangopadhyay et. al. Conditional on the event that the tributary survives up to time $n$, we show that, as a sequence of random metric spaces, scaled tributary converges in distribution to a continuum random tree with respect to Gromov Hausdorff topology. This verifies a prediction made by Aldous for a simpler model (where paths are independent till they coalesce) but for a different conditional set up. The limiting continuum tree is slightly different from what was surmised earlier. Our proof uses the fact that there ex…
We study the so-called multi-mixed fractional Brownian motions (mmfBm) and multi-mixed fractional Ornstein--Ulhenbeck (mmfOU) processes. These processes are constructed by mixing by superimposing (infinitely many) independent fractional Brownian motions (fBm) and fractional Ornstein--Uhlenbeck processes (fOU), respectively. We prove their existence as $L^2$ processes and study their path properties, viz. long-range and short-range dependence, Hölder continuity, $p$-variation, and conditional full support.
We investigate yet another approach to understand the limit behaviour of Brownian motion conditioned to stay within a tubular neighbourhood around a closed and connected submanifold of a Riemannian manifold. In this context, we identify a second order generator subject to Dirichlet conditions on the boundary of the tube and study its associated semigroups. After a suitable rescaling and renormalization procedure, we obtain convergence of these semigroups, both in $L^2$ and in Sobolev spaces of arbitrarily large index, to a limit semigroup, as the tube diameter tends to zero. As a byproduct, we…
We consider so-called regular invertible Gaussian Volterra processes and derive a formula for their prediction laws. Examples of such processes include the fractional Brownian motions and the mixed fractional Brownian motions. As an application, we consider conditional-mean hedging under transaction costs in Black-Scholes type pricing models where the Brownian motion is replaced with a more general regular invertible Gaussian Volterra process.
Consider a multi-dimensional Brownian motion which models the surplus processes of multiple lines of business of an insurance company. Our main result gives exact asymptotics for the cumulative Parisian ruin probability as the initial capital tends to infinity. An asymptotic distribution for the conditional cumulative Parisian ruin time is also derived. The obtained results on the cumulative Parisian ruin can be seen as generalizations of some of the results derived in Debicki et al (2018, Stochastic Processes and Their Applications). As a particular interesting case, the two-dimensional Brown…
In this paper we present new theoretical results on optimal estimation of certain random quantities based on high frequency observations of a Lévy process. More specifically, we investigate the asymptotic theory for the conditional mean and conditional median estimators of the supremum/infimum of a linear Brownian motion and a stable Lévy process. Another contribution of our article is the conditional mean estimation of the local time and the occupation time measure of a linear Brownian motion. We demonstrate that the new estimators are considerably more efficient compared to the classical est…
The fundamental solution of a pseudo-differential equation for functions defined on the $d$-fold product of the $p$-adic numbers, $\mathbb{Q}_p$, induces an analogue of the Wiener process in $\mathbb{Q}_p^d$. As in the real setting, the components are $1$-dimensional $p$-adic Brownian motions with the same diffusion constant and exponent as the original process. Asymptotic analysis of the conditional probabilities shows that the vector components are dependent for all time. Exit time probabilities for the higher dimensional processes reveal a concrete effect of the component dependency.
Consider a negatively drifted one dimensional Brownian motion starting at positive initial position, its first hitting time to 0 has the inverse Gaussian law. Moreover, conditionally on this hitting time, the Brownian motion up to that time has the law of a 3- dimensional Bessel bridge. In this paper, we give a generalization of this result to a family of Brownian motions with interacting drifts, indexed by the vertices of a conductance network. The hitting times are equal in law to the inverse of a random potential that appears in the analysis of a self-interacting process called the Vertex R…
Monotone processes, just like martingales, can often be recovered from their final values. Examples include running maxima of supermartingales, as well as running maxima, local times, and various integral functionals of sticky processes such as fractional Brownian motion. An interesting corollary is that any positive local martingale can be reconstructed from its final value and its global maximum. These results rely on the notion of conditional infimum, which is developed for a large class of complete lattices. The framework is sufficiently general to handle also more exotic examples, such as…
We consider a continuous population whose dynamics is described by the standard stationary Fleming-Viot process, so that the genealogy of $n$ uniformly sampled individuals is distributed as the Kingman $n$-coalescent. In this note, we study some genealogical properties of this population when the sample is conditioned to fall entirely into a subpopulation with most recent common ancestor (MRCA) shorter than $\varepsilon$. First, using the comb representation of the total genealogy (Lambert & Uribe Bravo 2016), we show that the genealogy of the descendance of the MRCA of the sample on the times…

The conditional density of Brownian motion is considered given the max, B(t|\max), as well as those with additional information: B(t|close, max), B(t|close, max, min) and B(t|max, min) where the close is the final value: B(t=1)=c and t in [0,1]. The conditional expectation and conditional variance of Brownian motion are evaluated subject to one or more of the the close (final value), the high (maximum), the low (minimum). Computational results displaying both the expectation and variance in time are presented and compared with the theoretical values. We tabulate the time averaged variance of B…
In this paper we study dynamic backward problems, with the computation of conditional expectations as a main objective, in a framework where the (forward) state process satisfies a Volterra type SDE, with fractional Brownian motion as a typical example. Such processes are neither Markov processes nor semimartingales, and most notably, they feature a certain time inconsistency which makes any direct application of Markovian ideas, such as flow properties, impossible without passing to a path-dependent framework. Our main result is a functional Itô formula, extending the seminal work of Dupire \…
The conditional expectation and conditional variance of Brownian motion is considered given the argmax, B(t|argmax), as well as those with additional information: B(t|close, argmax), B(t|max, argmax), B(t|close, max, argmax) where the close is the final value: B(t=1)=c and t in [0,1]. We compute the expectation and variance of a Brownian meander in time. By splicing together two Brownian meanders, the mean and variance of the constrained process are calculated. Computational results displaying both the expectation and variance in time are presented. Comparison of the simulation with theoretica…
We study the regular conditional law of mixed Gaussian Volterra processes under the influence of model disturbances. More precisely, we study prediction of Gaussian Volterra processes driven by a Brownian motion in a case where the Brownian motion is not observable, but only a noisy version is observed. As an application, we discuss how our result can be applied to variance reduction in the presence of measurement errors.
In this paper, we introduce an extension of a Brownian bridge with a random length by including uncertainty also in the pinning level of the bridge. The main result of this work is that unlike for deterministic pinning point, the bridge process fails to be Markovian if the pining point distribution is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. Further results include the derivation of formulae to calculate the conditional expectation of various functions of the random pinning time, the random pinning location, and the future value of the Brownian bridge, given an observation o…
