These short lecture notes provide an introduction to some basic notions of F-theory with some special emphasis on its relation to Type IIB orientifolds with O7/O3-planes.
Recent holographic analyses on IIA and IIB models of moduli stabilization have led to many interesting results. Here we extend this approach to M-Theory. We consider both flux-stabilized models and non-perturbative stabilization methods. We perform a holographic analysis to determine the spectrum of the assumed dual $CFT_{3}$ to see its AdS/CFT implication. For the flux stabilization, which relies on a large complex Chern-Simons invariant, moduli have integer dimensions similar to the DGKT flux-stabilized model in type IIA,. For the non-perturbative stabilization, the results are similar to ra…
The type IIB matrix model is a promising candidate for a nonperturbative formulation of superstring theory. In the Lorentzian version, in particular, the emergence of (3+1)D expanding space-time was observed by Monte Carlo studies of this model. Here we provide new perspectives on the (3+1)D expanding space-time that have arised from recent studies. First it was found that the matrix configurations generated by the simulation are singular in that the submatrices representing the expanding 3D space have only two large eigenvalues associated with the Pauli matrices. This problem was conjectured …
We establish features of so-called Yangian secret symmetries for AdS3 type IIB superstring backgrounds thus verifying the persistence of such symmetries to this new instance of the AdS/CFT correspondence. Specifically, we find two a priori different classes of secret symmetry generators. One class of generators, anticipated from the previous literature, is more naturally embedded in the algebra governing the integrable scattering problem. The other class of generators is more elusive, and somewhat closer in its form to its higher-dimensional AdS5 counterpart. All of these symmetries respect le…
We review recent progress in the study of S-folds in light of the gauge/gravity duality and the AdS swampland conjecture. S-folds correspond to non-geometric backgrounds of type IIB supergravity of the form $\,\textrm{AdS}_4 \, \times \, \textrm{S}^1 \, \times \, \mathcal{M}\,$ that involve a non-trivial $\,\textrm{SL}(2,\,\mathbb{Z})\,$ (S-duality) monodromy for the type IIB fields when moving around the $\,\textrm{S}^1$. We present four such solutions with $\,\mathcal{M}=\textrm{S}^{5}\,$ that preserve $\,\mathcal{N}=4,2,1,0\,$ supersymmetries. Via the AdS/CFT correspondence, these solutions…
In this note we study exceptional algebroids, focusing on their relation to type IIB superstring theory. We show that a IIB-exact exceptional algebroid (corresponding to the group $E_{n(n)}\times \mathbb{R}^+$, for $n\le 6$) locally has a standard form given by the exceptional tangent bundle. We derive possible twists, given by a flat $\mathfrak{gl}(2,\mathbb{R})$-connection, a covariantly closed pair of 3-forms, and a 5-form, and comment on their physical interpretation. Using this analysis we reduce the search for Leibniz parallelisable spaces, and hence maximally supersymmetric consistent t…
We study supersymmetry constraints on higher derivative deformations of type IIB supergravity by consideration of superamplitudes. Combining constraints of on-shell supervertices and basic results from string perturbation theory, we give a simple argument for the non-renormalization theorem of Green and Sethi, and some of its generalizations.
We calculate the structure function $F_3(x,q^2)$ of the hadronic tensor of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of charged leptons from glueballs of ${\cal {N}}=4$ SYM theory at strong coupling and at small values of the Bjorken parameter in the gauge/string theory duality framework. This is done in terms of type IIB superstring theory scattering amplitudes. From the AdS$_5$ perspective, the relevant part of the scattering amplitude comes from the five-dimensional non-Abelian Chern-Simons terms in the $SU(4)$ gauged supergravity obtained from dimensional reduction on $S^5$. From type IIB superstrin…
We compute the tree-level $H^2R^3$ couplings of type II strings and provide some basic tests of the couplings by considering both K3 and Calabi-Yau threefold compactifications. Curiously, additional kinematical structures show up at tree level that are not present in the one-loop couplings. This has interesting implications for type II supersymmetry as well as $SL(2, \mathbb Z)$ duality in type IIB strings.
We propose a string theory realization of three-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=4$ quiver gauge theories with special unitary gauge groups. This is most easily understood in type IIA string theory with D4-branes wrapped on holomorphic curves in local K3's, by invoking the Stückelberg mechanism. From the type IIB perspective, this is understood as simply compactifying the familiar Hanany-Witten (HW) constructions on a $T^3$. The mirror symmetry duals are easily derived. We illustrate this with various examples of mirror pairs.
We initiate the study of (2,0) little string theory of ADE type using its definition in terms of IIB string compactified on an ADE singularity. As one application, we derive a 5d ADE quiver gauge theory that describes the little string compactified on a sphere with three full punctures, at low energies. As a second application, we show the partition function of this theory equals the 3-point conformal block of ADE Toda CFT, q-deformed. To establish this, we generalize the A_n triality of \cite{AHS} to all ADE Lie algebras; IIB string perspective is crucial for this as well.
In this communication, one shows that there exists in the literature a certain form of deformed derivative that can here be identified as the dual of conformable derivative. The deformed subtraction is used here, together with the duality concept, as the basic definitions and starting points in order to obtain the connected dual operators. The q-exponential, in the context of generalized statistical mechanics, is the eigenfunction of this dual conformable derivative. The basic properties of the dual deformed-derivatives and also some perspective of applications and simple models are presented.…
The subject of this thesis is cosmological implications of string compactifications understood in a broad sense. In the first half of the thesis, we will begin by reviewing the four-dimensional description of the tree-level perturbative type IIB action. We will then review a number of open questions in cosmology and their relevance with regards to the remainder of the thesis. We will first explore some of these cosmological questions from the perspective of effective field theories motivated by supergravity. From the naturalness of dark energy and how to obtain a naturally light dark energy fi…
