The Ep,i - Eiso correlation is one of the most intriguing properties of GRBs, with significant implications for the understanding of the physics and geometry of the prompt emission, the identification and investigation of different classes of GRBs, the use of GRBs as cosmological probes. The Fermi satellite, by exploiting the high accuracy of the GBM instrument in the measurement of Ep, the simultaneous detection of GRBs with Swift, and the detection and localization of GRBs in the GeV energy range by the LAT instrument, is allowing us to enrich the sample of of GRBs with known redshift and reliable estimate of Ep,i, and, thus, to further test the robustness, reliability and extension of this correlation. Based on published results and preliminary spectral data available as of the end of 2009, it is found that the locations in the Ep,i - Eiso plane of Fermi long and short GRBs with measured redshift, including extremely energetic events, are consistent with the results provided by previous / other experiments.
We present the most extensive sample of 45 type I (short) and 275 type II (long) gamma-ray bursts (GRB) with known redshift to investigate the correlation between the rest frame peak energy, Ep,i and the total isotropic equivalent energy, Eiso of the prompt emission (Amati relation). The Ep,i - Eiso correlation for type I bursts is found to be well-distinguished from the one constructed for type II bursts and has a similar power-law index value, a = 0.4, which possibly indicates the same emission mechanism of both GRB types. We show that the initial pulse complex (IPC) of type I bursts with an…
In this paper, we select a sample including 141 BEST time-integrated F spectra and 145 BEST peak flux P spectra observed by the Konus-Wind with known redshift to recheck the connection between the spectral width and $E_{iso}$ as well as $L_{iso}$. We define six types of absolute spectral widths. It is found that all of the rest-frame absolute spectral widths are strongly positive correlated with $E_{iso}$ as well as $L_{iso}$ for the long burst for both the F and P spectra. All of the short bursts are the outliers for width-$E_{iso}$ relation and most of the short bursts are consistent with th…
We analyze two distinct samples of GRBs, with and without radio afterglow emission. We use a sample of 211 GRBs which is an update of the previous sample from arXiv:1902.01974, and find, in agreement with previous results (although with a sample that is almost twice as large) as the intrinsic gamma-ray duration (Tint) and isotropic equivalent energy (Eiso) distributions between these two populations appear to differ significantly. The redshift (z) distributions of the two samples are not statistically different. We analyze several correlations between variables (Eiso, Tint, jet opening angle, …

The potential existence of two separate classes of Long-duration Gamma-Ray Bursts (LGRBs) with and without radio afterglow emission, corresponding to radio-bright/loud and radio-dark/quiet populations, has been recently argued and favored in the GRB literature. The radio-quiet LGRBs have been found to have, on average, lower total isotropic gamma-ray emissions (Eiso) and shorter intrinsic prompt gamma-ray duration (e.g., T90z). In addition, a redshift-T90z anti-correlation has been discovered among the radio-loud LGRBs, which is reportedly missing in the radio-quiet class. Here we discuss the …
The Fermi GBM catalog provides a large database with many measured variables that can be used to explore and verify gamma-ray burst classification results. We have used Principal Component Analysis and statistical clustering techniques to look for clustering in a sample of 801 gamma-ray bursts described by sixteen classification variables. The analysis recovers what appears to be the Short class and two long-duration classes that differ from one another via peak flux, with negligible variations in fluence, duration and spectral hardness. Neither class has properties entirely consistent with th…
The RELEC scientific instrumentation onboard the Vernov spacecraft launched on July 8, 2014, included the DRGE gamma-ray and electron spectrometer. This instrument incorporates a set of scintillation phoswich detectors, including four identical X-ray and gamma-ray detectors in the energy range from 10 keV to 3 MeV with a total area of $\sim$500 $cm^{2}$ directed toward the nadir, and an electron spectrometer containing three mutually orthogonal detector units with a geometry factor of $\sim$2 $cm^{2} sr$, which is also sensitive to X-rays and gamma-rays. The goal of the space experiment with t…

We performed a systematic search for X-ray bursts of the SGR J1935+2154 using the Fermi Gamma-ray Burst Monitor continuous data dated from Jan 2013 to October 2021. Eight bursting phases, which consist of a total of 353 individual bursts, are identified. We further analyze the periodic properties of our sample using the Lomb-Scargle periodogram. The result suggests that those bursts exhibit a period of ~ 238 days with a ~ 63.2% duty cycle. Based on our analysis, we further predict two upcoming active windows of the X-ray bursts. Since July 2021, the beginning date of our first prediction has b…
We present temporal and time-integrated spectral analyses of 148 bursts from the latest activation of SGR J1935+2154, observed with Fermi/GBM from October 4th 2019 through May 20th 2020, excluding a ~130 s segment with a very high burst density on April 27th 2020. The 148 bursts presented here, are slightly longer and softer than bursts from earlier activations of SGR J1935+2154, as well as from other magnetars. The long-term spectral evolution trend is interpreted as being associated with an increase in the average plasma loading of the magnetosphere during bursts. We also find a trend of inc…
Although it is generally assumed that there are two dominant classes of gamma-ray bursts (GRB) with different typical durations, it has been difficult to unambiguously classify GRBs as short or long from summary properties such as duration, spectral hardness, and spectral lag. Recent work used t-distributed stochastic neighborhood embedding (t-SNE), a machine learning algorithm for dimensionality reduction, to classify all Swift gamma-ray bursts as short or long. Here, the method is expanded, using two algorithms, t-SNE and UMAP, to produce embeddings that are used to provide a classification …
We report the results of the rapid follow-up observations of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) detected by the Fermi satellite to search for associated fast radio bursts. The observations were conducted with the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder at frequencies from 1.2-1.4 GHz. A set of 20 bursts, of which four were short GRBs, were followed up with a typical latency of about one minute, for a duration of up to 11 hours after the burst. The data was searched using 4096 dispersion measure trials up to a maximum dispersion measure of 3763 pc cm$^{-3}$, and for pulse widths $w$ over a range of d…
Many different physical processes have been suggested to explain the prompt gamma-ray emission in gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Although there are examples of both bursts with photospheric and synchrotron emission origins, these distinct spectral appearances have not been generalized to large samples of GRBs. Here, we search for signatures of the different emission mechanisms in the full Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope GBM catalogue. We use Gaussian Mixture Models to cluster bursts according to their parameters from the Band function ($α$, $β$, and $E_{pk}$) as well as their fluence and $T_{90}$. W…
We present an analysis of more than 11 years of Fermi-GBM data in which 217 Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) are found for which their main burst is preceded by a precursor flash. We find that short GRBs ($<$2 s) are ~10 times less likely to produce a precursor than long GRBs. The quiescent time profile is well described by a double Gaussian distribution, indicating that the observed precursors have two distinct physical progenitors. The light curves of the identified precursor GRBs are publicly available in an online catalog (https://icecube.wisc.edu/~grbweb_public/Precursors.html).
