We prove new global stability estimates for the Gel'fand-Calderon inverse problem in 3D. For sufficiently regular potentials this result of the present work is a principal improvement of the result of [G. Alessandrini, Stable determination of conductivity by boundary measurements, Appl. Anal. 27 (1988), 153-172].
We prove a global logarithmic stability estimate for the multi-channel Gel'fand-Calderón inverse problem on a two-dimensional bounded domain, i.e. the inverse boundary value problem for the equation $-Δψ+ v\, ψ= 0$ on $D$, where $v$ is a smooth matrix-valued potential defined on a bounded planar domain $D$.
By developing the d-bar approach to global "inverse scattering" at zero energy we give a principal effectivization of the global reconstruction method for the Gel'fand-Calderon inverse boundary value problem in three dimensions. This work goes back to results published by the author in 1987, 1988 and proceeds from recent progress in the d-bar approach to inverse scattering in 3D published by the author in 2005, 2006.
We study the multi-channel Gel'fand-Calderón inverse problem in two dimensions, i.e. the inverse boundary value problem for the equation $-Δψ+ v(x) ψ= 0$, $x\in D$, where $v$ is a smooth matrix-valued potential defined on a bounded planar domain $D$. We give an exact global reconstruction method for finding $v$ from the associated Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator. This also yields a global uniqueness results: if two smooth matrix-valued potentials defined on a bounded planar domain have the same Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator then they coincide.
We give effectivized Holder-logarithmic energy and regularity dependent stability estimates for the Gel'fand inverse boundary value problem in dimension $d=3$. This effectivization includes explicit dependance of the estimates on coefficient norms and related parameters. Our new estimates are given in $L^2$ and $L^\infty$ norms for the coefficient difference and related stability efficiently increases with increasing energy and/or coefficient difference regularity. Comparisons with preceeding results are given.
Let $X$ be a smooth bordered surface in $\real^3$ with smooth boundary and $\hat σ$ a smooth anisotropic conductivity on $X$. If the genus of $X$ is given, then starting from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator $Λ_{\hat σ}$ on $\partial X$, we give an explicit procedure to find a unique Riemann surface $Y$ (up to a biholomorphism), an isotropic conductivity $σ$ on $Y$ and the boundary values of a quasiconformal diffeomorphism $F: X \to Y$ which transforms $\hat σ$ into $σ$. As a corollary we obtain the following uniqueness result: if $σ_1, σ_2$ are two smooth anisotropic conductivities on $X$ wi…
We give an instability estimate for the Gel'fand inverse boundary value problem at high energies. Our instability estimate shows an optimality of several important preceeding stability results on inverse problems of such a type.
We analyze stable weak solutions to the fractional Gel'fand problem \begin{equation*} (-Δ)^su=e^u\quad\mathrm{in}\quad Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n. \end{equation*} We prove that the dimension of the singular set is at most $n-10s.$
We derive a second order estimate for the first m eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the linearized Gel'fand problem associated to solutions which blow-up at m points. This allows us to determine, in some suitable situations, some qualitative properties of the first m eigenfunctions as the number of points of concentration or the multiplicity of the eigenvalue .
Blow-up solutions to the two-dimensional Gel'fand problem are studied. It is known that the location of the blow-up points of these solutions is related to a Hamiltonian function involving the Green function of the domain. We show that this implies an equivalence between the Morse indices of the solutions and the associated critical points of the Hamiltonian.
We consider the Gel'fand problem, $$ \begin{cases} Δw_{\varepsilon}+\varepsilon^2 h e^{w_{\varepsilon}}=0\quad&\mbox{in}\quadΩ, w_{\varepsilon}=0\quad&\mbox{on}\quad\partialΩ, \end{cases} $$ where $h$ is a nonnegative function in ${Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^2}$. Under suitable assumptions on $h$ and $Ω$, we prove the local uniqueness of $m-$bubbling solutions for any $\varepsilon>0$ small enough.
Using the scattering transform for $n^{th}$ order linear scalar operators, the Poisson bracket found by Gel'fand and Dikii, which generalizes the Gardner Poisson bracket for the KdV hierarchy, is computed on the scattering side. Action-angle variables are then constructed. Using this, complete integrability is demonstrated in the strong sense. Real action-angle variables are constructed in the self-adjoint case.
We consider the Gel'fand inverse problem and continue studies of [Mandache,2001]. We show that the Mandache-type instability remains valid even in the case of Dirichlet-to-Neumann map given on the energy intervals. These instability results show, in particular, that the logarithmic stability estimates of [Alessandrini,1988], [Novikov,Santacesaria,2010] and especially of [Novikov,2010] are optimal (up to the value of the exponent).
We consider stability and approximate reconstruction of Riemannian manifold when the finite number of eigenvalues of the Laplace-Beltrami operator and the boundary values of the corresponding eigenfunctions are given. The reconstruction can be done in stable way when manifold is a priori known to satisfy natural geometrical conditions related to curvature and other invariant quantities.
It is known that every positive solution of a one-dimensional Gel'fand problem can be written explicitly. In this paper we obtain exact expressions of all the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the linearized eigenvalue problem at each solution. We also study asymptotic behaviors of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions as the $L^{\infty}$-norm of the solution goes to the infinity.
We prove a new global stability estimate for the Gel'fand-Calderón inverse problem on a two-dimensional bounded domain or, more precisely, the inverse boundary value problem for the equation $-Δψ+ v\, ψ= 0$ on $D$, where $v$ is a smooth real-valued potential of conductivity type defined on a bounded planar domain $D$. The principal feature of this estimate is that it shows that the more a potential is smooth, the more its reconstruction is stable, and the stability varies exponentially with respect to the smoothness (in a sense to be made precise). As a corollary we obtain a similar estimate f…
For domains of first kind [7,13] we describe the qualitative behavior of the global bifurcation diagram of the unbounded branch of solutions of the Gel'fand problem crossing the origin. At least to our knowledge this is the first result about the exact monotonicity of the branch of non-minimal solutions which is not just concerned with radial solutions [28] and/or with symmetric domains [23]. Toward our goal we parametrize the branch not by the $L^{\infty}(Ω)$-norm of the solutions but by the energy of the associated mean field problem. The proof relies on a carefully modified spectral analysi…

This paper explores and ties together three themes. The first is to establish regularity of a metric tensor, on a manifold with boundary, on which there are given Ricci curvature bounds, on the manifold and its boundary, and a Lipschitz bound on the mean curvature of the boundary. The second is to establish geometric convergence of a (sub)sequence of manifolds with boundary with such geometrical bounds and also an upper bound on the diameter and a lower bound on injectivity and boundary injectivity radius, making use of the first part. The third theme involves the uniqueness and conditional st…
Assume that $M$ is a compact Riemannian manifold of bounded geometry given by restrictions on its diameter, Ricci curvature and injectivity radius. Assume we are given, with some error, the first eigenvalues of the Laplacian $Δ_g$ on $M$ as well as the corresponding eigenfunctions restricted on an open set in $M$. We then construct a stable approximation to the manifold $(M,g)$. Namely, we construct a metric space and a Riemannian manifold which differ, in a proper sense, just a little from $M$ when the above data are given with a small error. We give an explicit $\log\log$-type stability esti…
We prove uniqueness and stability for the inverse boundary value problem of the two dimensional Schrödinger equation. We do not assume the potentials to be continuous or even bounded. Instead, we assume that some of their positive fractional derivatives are in a specific Lorentz space. These spaces are a natural generalization to the usual fractional Sobolev spaces. The thesis consists of two parts. In the first part, we define the generalized fractional Sobolev spaces and prove some of their properties including embeddings and interpolation identities. In particular we sharpen the usual Sobol…
We prove a local Lipschitz stability estimate for Gel'fand-Calderón's inverse problem for the Schrödinger equation. The main novelty is that only a finite number of boundary input data is available, and those are independent of the unknown potential, provided it belongs to a known finite-dimensional subspace of $L^\infty$. A similar result for Calderón's problem is obtained as a corollary. This improves upon two previous results of the authors on several aspects, namely the number of measurements and the stability with respect to mismodeling errors. A new iterative reconstruction scheme based …
We consider the anisotropic Calderon problem of recovering a conductivity matrix or a Riemannian metric from electrical boundary measurements in three and higher dimensions. In the earlier work \cite{DKSaU}, it was shown that a metric in a fixed conformal class is uniquely determined by boundary measurements under two conditions: (1) the metric is conformally transversally anisotropic (CTA), and (2) the transversal manifold is simple. In this paper we will consider geometries satisfying (1) but not (2). The first main result states that the boundary measurements uniquely determine a mixed Four…
