We present an empirical connection between cold gas in galactic halos and star formation. Using a sample of more than 8,500 MgII absorbers from SDSS quasar spectra, we report the detection of a 15 sigma correlation between the rest equivalent width W0 of MgII absorbers and the associated OII luminosity, an estimator of star formation rate.
This correlation has interesting implications: using only observable quantities we show that MgII absorbers trace a substantial fraction of the global OII luminosity density and recover the overall star formation history of the Universe derived from classical emission estimators up to z~2. We then show that the distribution function of MgII rest equivalent widths, dN/dW0 inherits both its shape and amplitude from the OII luminosity function Phi(L). These distributions can be naturally connected, without any free parameter.
Our results imply a high covering factor of cold gas around star forming galaxies: C>0.5, favoring outflows as the mechanism responsible for MgII absorption. We then argue that intervening MgII absorbers and blue-shifted MgII absorption seen in the spectra of star forming galaxies are essentially the same systems. These results not only shed light on the nature of MgII absorbers but also provide us with a new probe of star formation, in absorption, i.e. in a way which does not suffer from dust extinction and with a redshift-independent sensitivity. As shown in this analysis, such a tool can be applied in a noise-dominated regime, i.e. using a dataset for which emission lines are not detected in individual objects. This is of particular interest for high redshift studies.
We present an overview of the theory of high-redshift star and X-ray source formation, and how they affect the 21-cm background. Primary focus is given to Lyman alpha pumping and X-ray heating mechanisms at cosmic dawn, opening a new observational window for high-redshift astrophysics by generating sizable fluctuations in the 21-cm background. We describe observational prospects for power spectrum analysis and 3D tomography (imaging) of the signature of these early astrophysical sources by SKA1-LOW and SKA2.
We study large-scale UV background inhomogeneity in three-dimensions associated with the observed quasar populations at high redshift. We do this by measuring metal absorption through quasar absorption spectrum stacking as a function distance to closest quasar in SDSS-IV/eBOSS on 10s of comoving megaparsec scales. We study both intergalactic medium absorbers and mixed circumgalactic medium absorbers and probe absorption in O VI, C IV, and Si IV, and Si III. Overall stronger high ionization species absorption is seen closer to quasars at $2.4<z<3.1$. O VI absorption shows a particularly strong …
One of the major science goals of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is to understand the role played by atomic hydrogen (HI) gas in the evolution of galaxies throughout cosmic time. The hyperfine transition line of the hydrogen atom at 21-cm is one of the best tools to detect and study the properties of HI gas associated with galaxies. In this article, we review our current understanding of HI gas and its relationship with galaxies through observations of the 21-cm line both in emission and absorption. In addition, we provide an overview of the HI science that will be possible with SKA and its …
Kolmogorov's statistic is used for the analysis of properties of perturbations in the Cosmic Microwave Background signal. We obtain the maps of the Kolmogorov stochasticity parameter for W and V band temperature data of WMAP which are differently affected by the Galactic disk radiation and then we model datasets with various statistic of perturbations. The analysis shows that the Kolmogorov's parameter can be an efficient tool for the separation of Cosmic Microwave Background from the contaminating radiations due to their different statistical properties.
GRB absorption spectroscopy opened up a new window in the study of the high redshift Universe, especially with the launch of the Swift satellite and the quick and precise localization of the afterglow. Eight-meter class telescopes can be repointed within a few hours from the GRB, enabling the acquisition of high signal-to-noise ratio and high resolution afterglow spectra. In this paper I will give a short review of what we learned through this technique, and I will present some of the first results obtained with the X-shooter spectrograph.
In this paper, we investigate the Ricci dark energy model with perturbations through the joint constraints of current cosmological data sets from dynamical and geometrical perspectives. We use the full cosmic microwave background information from WMAP seven-year data, the baryon acoustic oscillations from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the Two Degree Galaxy Redshift Survey, and type Ia supernovae from the Union2 compilation of the Supernova Cosmology Project Collaboration. A global constraint is performed by employing the Markov chain Monte Carlo method. With the best-fitting results, we sho…
This paper summarises the potential of the LISA mission to constrain the expansion history of the universe using massive black hole binary mergers as gravitational wave standard sirens. After briefly reviewing the concept of standard siren, the analysis and methodologies of Ref. [1] are briefly outlined to show how LISA can be used as a cosmological probe, while a selection of results taken from Refs. [1,2] is presented in order to estimate the power of LISA in constraining cosmological parameters.
It is shown that, in addition to the Thomson scattering, the absorption due to the electron-electron, electron-ion and the electron -atom collisions in a partially ionized cosmic plasma would also contribute to the optical depth of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The absorption depth depends on the plasma temperature and frequency of the CMB radiation. The absorption effects are prominent at the low frequency part of the CMB spectrum. These effects when included in the interpretation of the CMB spectrum may necessitate a revised view of the ioniziation of the universe.
Recently, some divergent conclusions about cosmic acceleration were obtained using type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia), with opposite assumptions on the intrinsic luminosity evolution. In this paper, we use strong gravitational lensing systems to probe the cosmic acceleration. Since the theory of strong gravitational lensing is established certainly, and the Einstein radius is determined by stable cosmic geometry. We study two cosmological models, $Λ$CDM and power-law models, through 152 strong gravitational lensing systems, incorporating with 30 Hubble parameters $H(z)$ and 11 baryon acoustic oscilla…
Probing the evolution of the universe at high redshifts with standard candles is a powerful way to discriminate dark energy models, where an open question nowadays is whether this component is constant or evolves with time. One possible source of ambiguity in this kind of analyses comes from cosmic opacity, which can mimick a dark enery behaviour. However, most tests of cosmic opacity have been restricted to the redshift range $z<2$. In this work, by using luminosity distances of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), {given the validity of the Amati relation}, and the latest $H(z)$ data we determine constr…
Prior to photon decoupling magnetic random fields of comoving intensity in the nano-Gauss range distort the temperature and the polarization anisotropies of the microwave background, potentially induce a peculiar B-mode power spectrum and may even generate a frequency-dependent circularly polarized V-mode. We critically analyze the theoretical foundations and the recent achievements of an interesting trialogue involving plasma physics, general relativity and astrophysics.
We probe the cosmic acceleration by using the recently released SNLS3 sample of 472 type Ia supernovae. Combining this type Ia supernovae dataset with the cosmic microwave background anisotropy data from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe 7-yr observations, the baryon acoustic oscillation results from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey data release 7, and the Hubble constant measurement from the Wide Field Camera 3 on the Hubble Space Telescope, we measure the dark energy equation of state $w$ and the deceleration parameter $q$ as functions of redshift by using the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder p…
Upcoming measurements of the 21-cm line of neutral hydrogen will open a new observational window into the early stages of structure growth, providing a unique opportunity for probing large-scale cosmological signatures using the small-scale signals from the first stars. In this paper we evaluate the detection significance of compensated isocurvature perturbations (CIPs) from observations of the 21-cm hydrogen-line during the cosmic-dawn era. CIPs are modulations of the relative baryon and dark-matter density that leave the total matter density unchanged. We find that, under different assumptio…
Recent targeted studies of associated HI absorption in radio galaxies are starting to map out the location, and potential cosmological evolution, of the cold gas in the host galaxies of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). The observed 21 cm absorption profiles often show two distinct spectral-line components: narrow, deep lines arising from cold gas in the extended disc of the galaxy, and broad, shallow lines from cold gas close to the AGN (e.g. Morganti et al. 2011). Here, we present results from a targeted search for associated HI absorption in the youngest and most recently-triggered radio AGN in…
If the physics behind dark energy and/or dark matter violates the parity symmetry assumed in the standard cosmological paradigm, the linear polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) photons can rotate due to their coupling to the dark sector. Recent 3$σ$ hints of this ``cosmic birefringence" in the EB spectrum of the CMB polarization motivates us to pursue new directions to independently validate and characterize the signal. Here, we explore the prospects to probe cosmic birefringence from small-scale fluctuations in the CMB using polarized Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (pSZ) tomography. We f…
The recently reported detection of redshifted 21cm absorption at $z \approx 17$ is a significant advance in the exploration of the cosmic dark ages. The observed signal ($T_{\mathrm{21}} \approx -0.5$ K with the limit $T_{\mathrm{21}} < -0.3$ K at 99\% c.l.) is anomalously strong for $Λ$CDM, which predicts at most $-0.24$ K. Here I show that the strong observed signal is expected in a purely baryonic universe.
We study the cosmic expansion history by reconstructing the deceleration parameter $q(z)$ from the SDSS-II type Ia supernova sample (SNIa) with two different light curve fits (MLCS2k2 and SALT-II), the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) distance ratio, the cosmic microwave background (CMB) shift parameter, and the lookback time-redshift (LT) from the age of old passive galaxies. Three parametrization forms for the equation of state of dark energy (CPL, JBP, and UIS) are considered. Our results show that, for the CPL and the UIS forms, MLCS2k2 SDSS-II SNIa+BAO+CMB and MLCS2k2 SDSS-II SNIa+BAO+CM…
Recent studies have indicated that an anisotropic cosmic expansion may exist. In this paper, we use three datasets of type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) to probe the isotropy of cosmic acceleration. For the Union2.1 dataset, the direction and magnitude of the dipole are $(l=309.3^{\circ} {}^{+ 15.5^{\circ}}_{-15.7^{\circ}} ,\ b = -8.9^{\circ} {}^{ + 11.2^{\circ}}_{-9.8^{\circ}} ),\ A=(1.46 \pm 0.56) \times 10^{-3}$. For the Constitution dataset, the results are $(l=67.0^{\circ}{}^{+ 66.5^{\circ}}_{-66.2^{\circ}},\ b=-0.6^{\circ}{}^{+ 25.2^{\circ}}_{-26.3^{\circ}}),\ A=(4.4 \pm 5.0) \times 10^{-4}$. F…
Multiple modifications of general relativity (GR) have been proposed in the literature in order to understand the nature of the accelerated expansion of the Universe. However, thus far all the predictions of GR have been confirmed with constantly increasing accuracy. In this work, we study the imprints of a particular class of models -- "screened" modified gravity theories -- on cosmic filaments. We have utilized the $N$-body code ISIS/RAMSES to simulate the symmetron model and the Hu-Sawicky $f(R)$ model, and we post-process the output with DisPerSE to identify the filaments of the cosmic web…
Cosmic Reionization imprints its signature on the temperature and polarization anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). Advances in CMB telescopes have already placed a significant constraint on the history of reionization. As near-future CMB telescopes target the maximum sensitivity, or observations limited only by the cosmic variance (CV), we hereby forecast the potential of future CMB observations in constraining the history of reionization. In this study, we perform Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis for CV-limited E-mode polarization observations such as the LiteBIRD (Light s…
Many motivated extensions of the Standard Model predict the existence of cosmic strings. Gravitational waves originating from the dynamics of the resulting cosmic string network have the ability to probe many otherwise inaccessible properties of the early universe. In this study we show how the spectrum of gravitational waves from a cosmic string network can be used to test the equation of state of the early universe prior to Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). We also demonstrate that current and planned gravitational wave detectors such as LIGO, LISA, DECIGO/BBO, and ET/CE have the potential to …
We propose a simple technique to detect any anisotropic expansion stage in the history of the universe starting from the inflationary stage to the surface of last scattering from the CMBR data. We use the property that any anisotropic expansion in the universe would deform the shapes of the primordial density perturbations and this deformation can be detected in a shape analysis of superhorizon fluctuations in CMBR. Using this analysis we obtain the constraint on any previous anisotropic expansion of the universe to be less than about 35%.
Recently it was shown that cosmic anisotropy can be well tested using either standard siren measurement of luminosity distance $d_\mathrm{L}(z)$ from gravitational-wave (GW) observation or dispersion measure ($\mathrm{DM}(z)$) from fast radio burst (FRB). It was also observed that the combined measurement of $d_\mathrm{L}(z)\cdot\mathrm{DM}(z)$ from the GW/FRB association system as suggested in some of FRB models is more effective to constrain cosmological parameters than $d_\mathrm{L}(z)$ or $\mathrm{DM}(z)$ separately due to its independence from Hubble constant. In this paper, we will show …
Cosmic strings are important remnants of early-Universe phase transitions. We show that they can be probed by Gravitational Waves (GWs) from compact binary mergers. If such chirping GW passes by a cosmic string, it is gravitationally lensed and left with a characteristic signal of the lensing -- the GW fringe. It is observable naturally through the frequency chirping of GWs. This allows to probe cosmic strings with small tension $Δ= 8πG μ= 10^{-6} \text{ -- } 10^{-10}$, just below the current constraint, at high-frequency LIGO-band and mid-band detectors. Although its detection rates are estim…
We present a new signature by which to one could potentially discriminate between a spectrum of gravitational radiation generated by a self-ordering scalar field vs that of inflation, specifically a comparison of the magnitude of a flat spectrum at frequencies probed by future direct detection experiments to the magnitude of a possible polarization signal in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. In the process we clarify several issues related to the proper calculation of such modes, focusing on the effect of post-horizon-crossing evolution.
The next generation of instruments designed to measure the polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) will provide a historic opportunity to open the gravitational wave window to the primordial Universe. Through high sensitivity searches for primordial gravitational waves, and tighter limits on the energy released in processes like phase transitions, the CMB polarization data of the next decade has the potential to transform our understanding of the laws of physics underlying the formation of the Universe.
We present statistics of HeII Lya transmission spikes and large-scale absorption troughs using archival high-resolution ($R=λ/Δλ\simeq 12,500$-$18,000$) far-UV spectra of eight HeII-transparent quasars obtained with the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph on the Hubble Space Telescope. The sample covers the redshift range 2.5<z<3.8, thereby probing the rapidly evolving HeII absorption at the end of the HeII reionization epoch. The measured lengths of the troughs decrease dramatically from L>100cMpc at z>3 to L~30cMpc at z~2.7, signaling a significant progression of HeII reionization at these redshifts…
We examine in some detail the influence of the systematics in different data sets including type Ia supernova sample, baryon acoustic oscillation data and the cosmic microwave background information on the fitting results of the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization. We find that the systematics in the data sets does influence the fitting results and leads to different evolutional behavior of dark energy. To check the versatility of Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization, we also perform the analysis on the Wetterich parametrization of dark energy. The results show that both the param…
We present HST-COS spectra of ten quasars located behind M31, selected to investigate the properties of gas associated with its extended disk and high velocity clouds (HVCs). The sightlines have impact parameters ranging between b= 13 kpc and 112 kpc. No absorption is detected in the four sightlines beyond b=57 kpc. Of the six remaining sightlines, all of which lie at b<32 kpc and within the N(HI)= 2E18 cm^{-2} boundary of the HI disk of M31, we detect low-ionization absorption at M31 velocities along four of them (three of which include MgII absorption). We also detect MgII absorption from an…
In this work, using the Gaussian Process, we explore the potentiality of future gravitational wave (GW) measurement to probe cosmic opacity through comparing its opacity-free luminosity distance (LD) with the opacity-dependent one from type Ia supernovae (SNIa). GW data points are simulated from the third generation Einstein Telescope, and SNIa data are taken from the Joint Light Analysis (JLA) or Pantheon compilation. The advantages of using Gaussian Process are that one may match SNIa data with GW data at the same redshift and use all available data to probe cosmic opacity. We obtain that th…
We consider the nonunitary quantum dynamics of neutral massless scalar particles used to model photons around a massive gravitational lens. The gravitational interaction between the lensing mass and asymptotically free particles is described by their second-quantized scattering wavefunctions. Remarkably, the zero-point spacetime fluctuations can induce significant decoherence of the scattered states with spontaneous emission of gravitons, thereby reducing the particles' coherence as well as energy. This new effect suggests that, when photon polarizations are negligible, such quantum gravity ph…
We propose and perform a new test of the cosmic distance-duality relation (CDDR), $D_L(z) / D_A(z) (1 + z)^{2} = 1$, where $D_A$ is the angular diameter distance and $D_L$ is the luminosity distance to a given source at redshift $z$, using strong gravitational lensing (SGL) and type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) data. We show that the ratio $D=D_{A_{12}}/D_{A_2}$ and $D^{*}=D_{L_{12}}/D_{L_{2}}$, where the subscripts 1 and 2 correspond, respectively, to redshifts $z_1$ and $z_2$, are linked by $D/D^*=(1+z_1)^2$ if the CDDR is valid. We allow departures from the CDDR by defining two funcions for $η(z_…
We make an analytical estimate of the maximum 21 cm absorption signal from the cosmic dawn, taking into account the inhomogeneity of gas distribution in the intergalactic medium (IGM) due to non-linear structure formation. The gas located near halos is over-dense but adiabatically heated, while the gas far from halos is under-dense and hence cooler. The cumulative effect of adiabatic heating and cooling from this gas inhomogeneity results in a reduction in the maximum global 21 cm absorption depth by about 40% as compared with homogeneous IGM model, assuming saturated coupling between the spin…

Making use of the wealth of new observational data coming from the sky it is possible to constrain particle physics theories beyond the Standard Model. One way to do this is illustrated in this article: a subset of theories admits cosmic string solutions, topologically stable matter field configurations. In these models, a network of cosmic strings inevitably forms in the early universe and persists to the present time. The gravitational effects of these strings leads to cosmological signatures which could be visible in current and future data. The magnitude of these signatures increases as th…
We discuss expectations for the absorption of high-energy gamma-rays by gamma-gamma pair production with intergalactic radiation fields (IRFs) at very high redshifts (z~5-20), and the prospects thereof for probing the cosmic reionization era. For the evolving IRF, a semi-analytical model incorporating both Population II and Population III stars is employed, which is consistent with a wide variety of existing high-z observations including QSO spectral measurements, WMAP Thomson depth constraints, near-IR source count limits, etc. We find that the UV IRF below the Lyman edge energy with intensit…
We study the possibility of using correlations between spatial modulations in the observed luminosity distribution of galaxies and the underlying density field as a cosmological probe. Considering redshift ranges, where magnification effects due to gravitational lensing may be neglected, we argue that the dipole part of such luminosity-density correlations traces the corresponding velocity-density signal which may thus be measured from a given galaxy redshift catalogue. Assuming an SDSS-like survey with mean density $\overline{n}$ = 0.01 ($h^{-1}$ Mpc)$^{-3}$ and effective volume $V_{\rm eff}$…
Low ionization metal absorption due to OI has been identified as an important probe of the physical state of the inter-/circumgalactic medium at the tail-end of reionization. We use here high-resolution hydrodynamic simulations to interpret the incidence rate of OI absorbers at z~6 as observed by Becker et al. (2011). We infer weak OI absorbers (EW > 0.1 A) to have typical HI column densities in the range of sub-DLAs, densities of 80 times the mean baryonic density and metallicities of about 1/500 th solar. This is similar to the metallicity inferred at similar overdensities at z~3, suggesting…
The Cosmic Dark Ages represent the period in the early evolution of the Universe, starting immediately after the decoupling of CMB photons from matter, and ending with the formation of the first stars and galaxies. The HI signal from the neutral hydrogen atoms is the only mechanism for us to understand this crucial phase in the cosmological history of the Universe and answer fundamental questions about the validity of the standard cosmological model, dark matter physics, and inflation. Due to cosmological redshift, this signal is now only observable in the 3-30~MHz frequency band, which is blo…
We compute the stochastic gravitational wave background generated by cosmic superstrings using a semi-analytical velocity-dependent model to describe their dynamics. We show that heavier string types may leave distinctive signatures on the stochastic gravitational wave background spectrum within the reach of present and upcoming gravitational wave detectors. We examine the physically motivated scenario in which the physical size of loops is determined by the gravitational backreaction scale and use NANOGRAV data to derive a conservative constraint of $Gμ_F<3.2 \times 10^{-9}$ on the tension of…
With close pairs of quasars at different redshifts, a background quasar sightline can be used to study a foreground quasar's environment in absorption. We use a sample of 650 projected quasar pairs to study the HI Lya absorption transverse to luminous, z~2 quasars at proper separations of 30kpc < R < 1Mpc. In contrast to measurements along the line-of-sight, regions transverse to quasars exhibit enhanced HI Lya absorption and a larger variance than the ambient intergalactic medium, with increasing absorption and variance toward smaller scales. Analysis of composite spectra reveals excess absor…
We study the time variability of five Fe Low ionization Broad Absorption Line (FeLoBAL) QSOs using repeated spectroscopic observations with the 2m telescope at IUCAA Girawali observatory (IGO) spanning an interval of upto 10 years. We report a dramatic variation in Al III and Fe III fine-structure lines in the spectra of SDSS J221511.93-004549.9 (z_em ~ 1.478). However, there is no such strong variability shown by the C IV absorption. This source is known to be unusual with (i) the continuum emission dominated by Fe emission lines, (ii) Fe III absorption being stronger than Fe II and (iii) the…
Superconducting cosmic strings emit electromagnetic waves between the times of recombination and reionization. Hence, they have an effect on the global 21cm signal. We compute the resulting absorption features, focusing on strings with critical current, study their dependence on the string tension $μ$, and compare with observational results. For string tensions in the range of $G μ= 10^{-10}$, where $G$ is Newton's gravitational constant, there is an interesting amplification of the two characteristic absorption features, one during the cosmic dawn, $z \lesssim 30$, and the other during the co…
We constrain the spectrum of the cosmic ultraviolet background radiation by fitting the observed abundance ratios carbon ions at $z\sim 2\hbox{--}3$ with those expected from different models of the background radiation. We use the recently calculated modulation of the background radiation between 3 and 4 Ryd due to resonant line absorption by intergalactic HeII, and determine the ratios of CIII to CIV expected at these redshifts, as functions of metallicity, gas density and temperature. Our analysis of the observed ratios shows that 'delayed reionization' models, which assume a large fraction …
Ultra-light axions (ULAs) are a promising and intriguing set of dark-matter candidates. We study the prospects to use forthcoming measurements of 21-cm fluctuations from cosmic dawn to probe ULAs. We focus in particular on the velocity acoustic oscillations (VAOs) in the large-scale 21-cm power spectrum, features imprinted by the long-wavelength ($k\sim0.1\,{\rm Mpc}^{-1}$) modulation, by dark-matter--baryon relative velocities, of the small-scale ($k\sim 10-10^3\, {\rm Mpc}^{-1}$) power required to produce the stars that heat the neutral hydrogen. Damping of small-scale power by ULAs reduces …
The current understanding of dark matter comes largely from measurements of the total matter content in the universe, from the distribution of gravitating matter on very large scales, and from rotation curves and velocity dispersions on sub-galactic scales. However, small-scale structure may well hold the key to unlocking the particle physics of the still-mysterious 85% of matter in the universe. Novel small-scale astrophysical probes of new particles and dark matter will become possible with a large data volume of high-precision measurements enabled by next-generation gravitational-wave detec…
While the cosmic microwave background (CMB) dipole is largely assumed entirely kinematic, there appears evidence that a part of it is primordial. Such possibility arises in models implying a tilt, interpreted as a dark flow, across the observable Universe. The kinematic nature of the entire CMB dipole can be probed using the dipole of cosmic backgrounds from galaxies after the last scattering. The near-IR cosmic infrared background (CIB) spectral energy distribution leads to an amplified dipole compared to the CMB. The CIB dipole is affected by galaxy clustering, decreasing with fainter, more …
We study the problem of searching for cosmic string signal patterns in the present high resolution and high sensitivity observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). This article discusses a technique capable of recognizing Kaiser-Stebbins effect signatures in total intensity anisotropy maps, and shows that the biggest factor that produces confusion is represented by the acoustic oscillation features of the scale comparable to the size of horizon at recombination. Simulations show that the distribution of null signals for pure Gaussian maps converges to a $χ^2$ distribution, with dete…
A recent observation points to an excess in the expected 21-cm brightness temperature from cosmic dawn. In this paper, we present an alternative explanation of this phenomenon, an interaction in the dark sector. Interacting dark energy models have been extensively studied recently and there is a whole variety of such in the literature. Here we particularize to a specific model in order to make explicit the effect of an interaction.
Primordial non-Gaussianity is an invaluable window into the physical processes that gave rise to the cosmological structure. The presence of local shape PNG imprints a distinct scale-dependent correction to the bias of dark matter tracers on large scales, which can be effectively probed via the technique of intensity mapping. Considering an upcoming generation of experiments, we demonstrate that intensity mapping of CO and [CII] emission can improve upon the current best constraints from the {\it Planck} satellite. We show that measurement of the CO intensity power spectrum by a hypothetical n…
