The two-body break up of the deuteron is studied at high $Q^2$ kinematics, with main motivation to probe the deuteron at small internucleon distances. Such studies are associated with the probing of high momentum component of the deuteron wave function. For this, two main theoretical issues have been addressed such as electromagnetic interaction of the virtual photon with the bound nucleon and the strong interaction of produced baryons in the final state of the break-up reaction. Within virtual nucleon approximation we developed a new prescription to account for the bound nucleon effects in electromagnetic interaction. The final state interaction at high $Q^2$ kinematics is calculated within generalized eikonal approximation (GEA). We studied the uncertainties involved in the calculation and performed comparisons with the first experimental data on deuteron electrodisintegration at large $Q^2$. We demonstrate that the experimental data confirm GEA's early prediction that the rescattering is maximal at $\sim 70^0$ of recoil nucleon production relative to the momentum of the virtual photon. Comparisons also show that the forward recoil nucleon angles are best suited for studies of the electromagnetic interaction of bound nucleons and the high momentum structure of the deuteron. Backward recoil angle kinematics show sizable effects due to the $Δ$-isobar contribution. The latter indicates the importance of further development of GEA to account for the inelastic transitions in the intermediate state of the electrodisintegration reactions.
We establish a simple, explicit relation between the formalisms employed in the treatments of polarization observables in deuteron two-body electrodisintegration published by Arenhövel, Leidemann, and Tomusiak in Few-Body Systems {\bf 15}, 109 (1993) and the results of the present authors published in Phys.~Rev.~C {\bf 40}, 2479 (1989). We comment on the overlap between the two sets of results.
The effect of meson retardation in $NN$-interaction and exchange currents on deuteron electrodisintegration is studied in a coupled channel approach including $NN$-, $N Δ$- and $πd$-channels. It is shown that the influence of retardation depends on the energy regime: Whereas below $π$-threshold calculations with static and retarded operators yield almost identical results, they differ significantly in the $Δ$-region. Especially, the longitudinal and the longitudinal-transverse interference structure functions are strongly affected.
The paper considers the electrodisintegration of the deuteron for kinematic conditions of the JLab experiment E-94-019. The calculations have been performed within the covariant Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable kernel of nucleon-nucleon interactions. The results have been obtained using the relativistic plane wave impulse approximation and compared with experimental data and other models. The influence of nucleon electromagnetic form factors has been investigated.
We extend the relativistic plane--wave impulse approximation formalism to incorporate a specific class of relativistic interference effects for use in describing inclusive electrodisintegration of $^2$H. The role of these ``exchange'' terms for the various response functions accessible in parity--conserving and --violating inclusive processes is investigated and shown, especially for the latter, to have important consequences for experiment. An extension to a simple quasi--deuteron model is also considered.
The electrodisintegration of the deuteron is considered within a relativistic model of nucleon-nucleon interaction based on the Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable interaction kernel. The exclusive cross section is calculated within the impulse approximation under various kinematic conditions. Final state interactions between the outgoing nucleons are taken into account. The comparison of nonrelativistic and relativistic calculations is presented. Partial-wave states of the neutron-proton pair with total angular momentum $J=0,1$ are considered.
The electrodisintegration of the deuteron in the frame of the Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable kernel of the nucleon-nucleon interaction is considered. This conception keeps the covariance of a description of the process. A comparison of relativistic and nonrelativistic calculations is presented. The factorization of the cross section of the reaction in the impulse approximation is obtained by analytical calculations. It is shown that the photon-neutron interaction plays an important role.
The exclusive electrodisintegration of the deuteron is considered within the Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable interaction kernel. The relativistic kernel of nucleon-nucleon interaction is obtained considering the phase shifts in the elastic neutron-proton scattering and properties of the deuteron. The differential cross section is calculated within the impulse approximation under several kinematic conditions of the Bonn experiment. Final state interactions between the outgoing nucleons are taken into account. Partial-wave states of the neutron-proton pair with total angular momentum J=…
Outgoing nucleon polarization in exclusive deuteron electrodisintegration is studied at the quasi-elastic peak in the standard theory with emphasis on the effect of nucleonic and pionic relativistic corrections. The cases of polarized beam or/and polarized target are considered. Sizeable relativistic effects are pointed out in several polarization components. The sensitivity of nucleon polarization to the neutron charge form factor $G_E^n$ is discussed. In particular, it is shown that the longitudinal component of neutron polarization with vector polarized deuterons is as sensitive to $G_E^n$ …
Renormalization group (RG) methods used to soften Hamiltonians for nuclear many-body calculations change the effective resolution of the interaction. For nucleon knock-out processes, these RG transformations leave cross sections invariant, but initial-state wave functions, interaction currents, and final-state interactions are individually altered. This has implications for the factorization of nuclear structure and reactions. We use deuteron electrodisintegration as a controlled laboratory for studying how structure and reaction components are modified under RG evolution, without the complica…
In the framework of the covariant Bethe-Salpeter formalism we calculate the amplitude of electrodisintegration of the deuteron near the threshold energy. Due to the small relative momentum of the final np-pair, the deuteron break-up process may be sufficiently described by a transition to the dominant 1S0 channel into the final state. Therefore only one unknown structure function (form factor) exists. The explicit formula for this form factor is given in terms of partial Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes. We compare our result to the usual non-relativistic calculations. The essential role of P-states …
Polarization observables in inclusive and exclusive electrodisintegration of the deuteron using a polarized beam and an oriented target are systematically surveyed using the standard nonrelativistic framework of nuclear theory but with leading order relativistic contributions included. The structure functions and the asymmetries corresponding to the various nucleon polarization components are studied in a variety of kinematic regions with respect to their sensitivity to realistic $NN$-potential models, to subnuclear degrees of freedom in terms of meson exchange currents, isobar configurations …
Formal expressions are derived for the multipole expansion of the structure functions of a general polarization observable of exclusive electrodisintegration of the deuteron using a longitudinally polarized beam and/or an oriented target. This allows one to exhibit explicitly the angular dependence of the structure functions by expanding them in terms of the small rotation matrices $d^j_{m'm}(θ)$, whose coefficients are given in terms of the electromagnetic multipole matrix elements. Furthermore, explicit expressions for the coefficients of the angular distributions of the differential cross s…
The influence of relativistic contributions to deuteron electrodisintegration is systematically studied in various kinematic regions of energy and momentum transfer. As theoretical framework the equation-of-motion and the unitarily equivalent S-matrix approaches are used. In a (p/M)-expansion, all leading order relativistic $π$-exchange contributions consistent with the Bonn OBEPQ model are included. In addition, static heavy meson exchange currents including boost terms, $γπρ/ω$-currents, and $Δ$-isobar contributions are considered. Sizeable effects from the various relativistic two-body cont…
The (ed -> enp) process in the frame of the Bethe-Salpeter approach with a separable kernel of the Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) interaction was considered. This conception keeps the covariance of description of the process. Special attention was devoted to a contribution of the D-states of the deuteron in the cross section of the electrodisintegration. It was shown that the spectator particle (neutron) plays an important role. The factorization of a cross section of this reaction in the impulse approximation was checked by analytical and numerical calculations.
The generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule $I^{GDH}_{γ^*d}(Q^2)$ for deuteron electrodisintegration $d(e,e')np$ as function of the squared four-momentum transfer $Q^2$ is evaluated by explicit integration. The calculation is based on a conventional nonrelativistic framework using a realistic $NN$-potential and including contributions from meson exchange currents, isobar configurations and leading order relativistic terms. Good convergence is achieved. The prominent feature is a deep negative minimum, $I_{γ^* d}^{GDH}=-9.5$ mb, at low $Q^2\approx 0.2$ fm$^{-2}$ which is almost exclusively d…
Recent advances in the study of electrodisintegration of 3He are presented and discussed. The pair-correlated hyperspherical harmonics method is used to calculate the initial and final state wave functions, with a realistic Hamiltonian consisting of the Argonne v18 two-nucleon and Urbana IX three-nucleon interactions. The model for the nuclear current and charge operators retains one- and many-body contributions. Particular attention is made in the construction of the two-body current operators arising from the momentum-dependent part of the two-nucleon interaction. Three-body current operator…
A model calculation of deuteron electrodisintegration is used to explore renormalization group (RG) scale dependence for knock-out reactions. When evolved to different resolutions with the similarity RG (SRG), the initial deuteron wave function, the current operator, and the final state interactions (FSI) are all modified, but how they combine depends strongly on the kinematic region. In some regions, for example, the FSI are largely unaffected by evolution, while elsewhere FSI are greatly reduced. For certain kinematics, the impulse approximation at a high RG resolution gives an intuitive pic…
The threshold electrodisintegration of the deuteron at backward angles is studied with a relativistic Hamiltonian, including a relativistic one-pion-exchange potential (OPEP) with off-shell terms as predicted by pseudovector coupling of pions to nucleons. The bound and scattering states are obtained in the center-of-mass frame, and then boosted from it to the Breit frame, where the evaluation of the relevant matrix elements of the electromagnetic current operator is carried out. The latter includes, in addition to one-body, also two-body terms due to pion exchange, as obtained, consistently wi…
Electron scattering from the three-nucleon bound state with two- and three-body disintegration is described. The description uses the purely nucleonic charge-dependent CD-Bonn potential and its coupled-channel extension CD-Bonn + $Δ$. Exact solutions of three-particle equations are employed for the initial and final states of the reactions. The current has one-baryon and two-baryon contributions and couples nucleonic with $Δ$-isobar channels. $Δ$-isobar effects on the observables are isolated. The $Δ$-isobar excitation yields an effective three-nucleon force and effective two- and three-nucleo…
The break up of the deuteron is studied at high $Q^2$ kinematics, with main motivation to probe the deuteron at small internucleon distances. For this, two main issues are studied: electromagnetic interaction of the virtual photon with the bound nucleon and the strong interactions of the produced baryons in the final state of the reaction. Within virtual nucleon approximation we developed a new prescription to account for the bound nucleon effects in the electromagnetic interaction. The final state interaction at high $Q^2$ kinematics is calculated within generalized eikonal approximation ~ (G…
This talk reviews recent theoretical and experimental results for elastic electron deuteron scattering (yielding the deuteron form factors), threshold electrodisintegration ($e+d\to e'+p+n$ where the mass of the final $np$ pair, $W$, is only a few MeV above the threshold value of $m_p+m_n$), and high energy deuteron photodisintegration ($γ+d\to p+n$). The talk is based on the complete reviews of Refs. [GVO,S,GG], with a few new results not previously reported.
The $^3$He$(e,e^\prime p)$$d$ reaction is studied using an accurate three-nucleon bound state wave function, a model for the electromagnetic current operator including one- and two-body terms, and the Glauber approximation for the treatment of final state interactions. In contrast to earlier studies, the profile operator in the Glauber expansion is derived from a nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitude, which retains its full spin and isospin dependence and is consistent with phase-shift analyses of two-nucleon scattering data. The amplitude is boosted from the center-of-mass frame, where paramet…
We study the deuteron electrodisintegration with inclusion of the neutral currents focusing on the helicity asymmetry of the exclusive cross section in coplanar geometry. We stress that a measurement of this asymmetry in the quasi elastic region is of interest for an experimental determination of the weak form factors of the nucleon, allowing one to obtain the parity violating electron neutron asymmetry. Numerically, we consider the reaction at low momentum transfer and discuss the sensitivity of the helicity asymmetry to the strangeness radius and magnetic moment. The problems coming from the…
Using the covariant spectator theory and the transversity formalism, the unpolarized, coincidence cross section for deuteron electrodisintegration, $d(e,e'p)n$, is studied. The relativistic kinematics are reviewed, and simple theoretical formulae for the relativistic impulse approximation (RIA) are derived and discussed. Numerical predictions for the scattering in the high $Q^2$ region obtained from the RIA and five other approximations are presented and compared. We conclude that measurements of the unpolarized coincidence cross section and the asymmetry $A_ϕ$, to an accuracy that will distin…
The magnetic form factors of $^2$H, $^3$H, and $^3$He, deuteron photodisintegration cross sections at low energies, and deuteron threshold electrodisintegration cross sections at backward angles in a wide range of momentum transfers, are calculated with the chiral two-nucleon (and three-nucleon) interactions including $Δ$ intermediate states that have recently been constructed in configuration space. The $A\,$=$\,$3 wave functions are obtained from hyperspherical-harmonics solutions of the Schrödinger equation. The electromagnetic current includes one- and two-body terms, the latter induced by…
For deuteron photo- and electrodisintegration the selection of complete sets of polarization observables is discussed in detail by applying a recently developed new criterion for the check of completeness of a chosen set of observables. The question of ambiguities and their resolution by considering additional observables is discussed for a numerical example, for which the role of experimental uncertainties is also investigated. Furthermore, by inversion of the expressions of the observables as hermitean forms in the $t$-matrix elements a bilinear term of the form $t_{j'}^*t_j$ can be given as…
Within a covariant Bethe-Salpeter approach a rank-six separable neutron-proton interaction kernel for the triplet coupled $^3S_1$-$^3D_1$ partial-wave state is constructed. Two different methods of a relativistic generalization of initially nonrelativistic form factors parametrizing the kernel are considered. The model parameters are determined by fitting the elastic $^3S_1$ and $^3D_1$ phase shifts and the triplet scattering length as well as the asymptotic $D/S$ ratio of the deuteron wave functions and the deuteron binding energy. The $D$-state probability constraints 4-7\% are taken into ac…
Effects of three-nucleon forces arising from the exchange of a pion and a scalar-isoscalar object among three nucleons on nucleon-deuteron scattering observables are studied.
The relativistic effect on differential cross sections, nucleon-to-nucleon and nucleon-to-deuteron polarization transfer coefficients, and the spin correlation function, of nucleon-deuteron elastic scattering is investigated employing several three-dimensional relativistic three-body equations and several nucleon-nucleon potentials. The polarization transfer coefficients are found to be sensitive to the details of the nucleon-nucleon potentials and the relativistic dynamics employed, and prefer trinucleon models with the correct triton binding energy. (To appear in Phys. Rev. C)
The reaction of the elastic electron-deuteron scattering at high momentum transfer is investigated within the Bethe-Salpeter approach. The relativistic covariant Graz II separable kernel of nucleon-nucleon interactions is used to analyze the deuteron structure functions, form factors and tensor of polarization components. The modern data for the electromagmetic nucleons structure from the double polarization experiments as well as some other models of the nucleon form factors are considered.
Three-nucleon forces, which compose an up-to-date subject in few-nucleon systems, provide a good account of the triton binding energy and the cross section minimum in proton-deuteron elastic scattering, while do not succeed in explaining spin observables such as the nucleon and deuteron analyzing powers, suggesting serious defects in their spin dependence. We study the spin structure of nucleon-deuteron elastic amplitudes by decomposing them into spin-space tensors and examine effects of three-nucleon forces to each component of the amplitudes obtained by solving the Faddeev equation. Assuming…
A high-precision test of the Glauber formula for the amplitude of nucleon-deuteron scattering is performed. Nucleon-nucleon amplitudes used in the calculations depend on the spins of interacting particles, phase shifts, and mixing parameters. These amplitudes were derived by using the Nijmegen potentials. The differential cross sections for nucleon-deuteron scattering were calculated for the projectile-nucleon energies of 65, 95, 135, 150, 190, and 250~MeV, and the results of these calculations were compared with experimental data.
Three-nucleon force effects in polarization transfers from the doubly spin-polarized initial neutron-deuteron state to the outgoing neutron in neutron-deuteron scattering
We use an effective field theory to compute low-energy nucleon-deuteron scattering. We obtain the quartet scattering length using low energy constants entirely determined from low-energy nucleon-nucleon scattering. We find $a_{th}=6.33$ fm, to be compared to $a_{exp}=6.35\pm 0.02$ fm.
A new computational method for solving the nucleon-deuteron breakup scattering problem has been applied to study the elastic neutron- and proton-deuteron scattering on the basis of the configuration-space Faddeev-Noyes-Noble-Merkuriev equations. This method is based on the spline-decomposition in the angular variable and on a generalization of the Numerov method for the hyperradius. The Merkuriev-Gignoux-Laverne approach has been generalized for arbitrary nucleon-nucleon potentials and with an arbitrary number of partial waves. The nucleon-deuteron observables at the incident nucleon energy 3 …
Present day chiral nucleon-nucleon potentials up to N3LO and three nucleon forces at N2LO are used to analyze nucleon-deuteron radiative capture at deuteron lab energies below E_d= 100 MeV. The differential cross section and the deuteron analyzing powers A_y(d) and A_{yy} are presented and compared to data. The theoretical predictions are obtained in the momentum-space Faddeev approach using the nuclear electromagnetic current operator with exchange currents introduced via the Siegert theorem. The chiral forces provide the same quality of data description as a combination of the two-nucleon AV…
Faddeev calculations have been performed for nucleon-deuteron photodisintegration of 3He(3H) and proton-deuteron radiative capture. The bulk of the results is based on the AV18 nucleon-nucleon force and the Urbana IX three-nucleon force together with explicit exchange currents or applying the Siegert approach. Three-nucleon force effects are predicted for both processes and supported by most of the data.
We calculate the deuteron anapole moment with the wave functions obtained from the Argonne $v18$ nucleon-nucleon interaction model. The anapole moment operators are considered at the leading order. To minimize the uncertainty due to a lack of current conservation, we calculate the matrix element of the anapole moment from the original definition. In virtue of accurate wave functions, we can obtain a more precise value of the deuteron anapole moment which contains less uncertainty than the former works. We obtain a result reduced by more than 25% in the magnitude of the deuteron anapole moment.…
High momentum transfer electrodisintegration of polarized and unpolarized deuterium targets, $d(e,e'p)n$ is studied. We show that the importance of final state interactions-FSI, occuring when a knocked out nucleon interacts with the other nucleon, depends strongly on the momentum of the spectator nucleon. In particular, these FSI occur when the essential contributions to the scattering amplitude arise from internucleon distances $\sim 1.5~fm$. But the absorption of the high momentum $γ^*$ may produce a point like configuration, which evolves with time. In this case, the final state interaction…
Theoretical predictions for the nucleon induced deuteron breakup process based on solutions of the three-nucleon Faddeev equation including such relativistic features as the relativistic kinematics and boost effects are presented. Large changes of the breakup cross section in some complete configurations are found at higher energies. The predicted relativistic effects, which are mostly of dynamical origin, seem to be supported by existing data.
We investigate the nonrelativistic reduction of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude for the deuteron electrodisintegration near threshold energies. To this end, two assumptions have been used in the calculations: 1) the static approximation and 2) the one iteration approximation. Within these assumptions it is possible to recover the nonrelativistic result including a systematic extension to relativistic corrections. We find that the so-called pair current term can be constructed from the $P$-wave contribution of the deuteron Bethe-Salpeter amplitude. The form factor that enters into the calculation …
The three--nucleon scattering problem in a nuclear medium is considered within the Faddeev technique. In particular the deuteron break--up cross section that governs the formation and the break--up reactions of deuterons (NNN <-> Nd) in a nuclear environment is calculated at finite temperatures and densities. A significant enhancement of the in--medium break--up cross section with increasing density has been found.
A new computational method for solving the nucleon-deuteron breakup scattering problem has been applied to study the inelastic neutron-deuteron scattering on the basis of the configuration-space Faddeev equations. This method is based on the spline-decomposition in the angular variable and on a generalization of the Numerov method for the hyperradius. The Merkuriev-Gignoux-Laverne approach has been generalized for arbitrary nucleon-nucleon potentials and with an arbitrary number of partial waves. Neutron-deuteron observables at the incident nucleon energy 14.1 MeV have been calculated using th…
The sensitivity of the deuteron form factor to contributions from the excited states of the nucleon is explored using a simple model of the nucleon-nucleon interaction which employs a tower of charged nucleon resonances. The model is manifestly covariant, analytically solvable, and gauge invariant. The consequences of this model are studied in the simplest possible framework. We assume that all particles have spin zero and that the tower has only three charged members, which consist of the proton, the Roper, and a higher state in the vicinity of the $D_{13}$. Nucleon-nucleon S-wave phase shift…
We review a concept of the Moscow potential (MP) of the $NN$ interaction. On the basis of this concept we derive by quantum inversion optical partial potentials from the modern partial-wave analysis (PWA) data and deuteron properties. Point-form (PF) relativistic quantum mechanics (RQM) is applied to the two-body deuteron photodisintegration. Calculations of the cross-section angular distributions cover photon energies between 1.1 and 2.5 GeV. Good agreement between our theory and recent experimental data confirms the concept of deep attractive Moscow potential with forbidden $S$- and $P$-stat…
There are currently no models readily available that provide nucleon-nucleon spin dependent scattering amplitudes at high energies ($s \geq 6$ GeV$^2$). This work aims to provide a model for calculating these high-energy scattering amplitudes. The foundation of the model is Regge theory since it allows for a relativistic description and full spin dependence. A parameterization of the amplitudes is presented, and comparisons of the solution to the assembled data set are shown. In addition, an application of the model to describe final state interactions in deuteron electrodisintegration is pres…
Coulomb effects in the neutron-deuteron and proton-deuteron polarization-transfer coefficients $K_y^{y'}$, $K_z^{x'}$, $K_y^{x'x'-y'y'}$ and $K_y^{z'z'}$ are studied at energies above the deuteron breakup threshold. Theoretical predictions for these observables are evaluated in the framework of the Kohn Variational Principle using correlated basis functions to expand the three-nucleon scattering wave function. The two-nucleon Argonne $v_{18}$ and the three-nucleon Urbana IX potentials are considered. In the proton-deuteron case, the Coulomb interaction between the two protons is included expli…
Three-nucleon forces have been considered to be one possibility to resolve the well known discrepancy between experimental values and theoretical calculations of the nucleon analyzing power in low energy nucleon-deuteron scattering. In this paper, we investigate possible effects of two-pion exchange three-nucleon forces on the analyzing power and the differential cross section. We found that the reason for different effects on the analyzing power by different three-nucleon forces found in previous calculations is related to the existence of the contact term. Effects of some variations of two-p…
Within the framework of the study of radiative corrections to the polarization observed in elastic $ed$-scattering in leptonic variables have been calculated the Born values of vector AB^L, AB^T and tensor AB^LL, AB^TT, AB^LT asymmetries. The deuteron wave functions in coordinate representation for eight nucleon-nucleon potentials (Nijm1, Nijm2, Nijm93, Reid93, Argonne v18, OBEPC, MT and Paris) have been used for numerical calculations of vector AB^i(p,teta) and tensor AB^ij(p,teta) asymmetries. The angular-momentum dependence of values vector and tensor asymmetries have been also evaluated in…
We examine a description of available cross section data for symmetric space star (SST) configurations in the neutron-deuteron (nd) and proton-deuteron (pd) breakup reaction using numerically exact solutions of the three-nucleon (3N) Faddeev equation based on two- and three-nucleon (semi)phenomenological and chiral forces. The predicted SST cross sections are very stable with respect to the underlying dynamics for incoming nucleon laboratory energies below $\approx 25$ MeV. We discuss possible origins of the surprising discrepancies between theory and data found in low-energy nd and pd SST bre…
The results from an investigation of the incoherent single pion electroweak production on the deuteron in the $Δ$(1232) region are reported. The importance of including the nucleon-nucleon final state interactions in extracting the neutrino-nucleon cross sections from the data obtained from the experiments on the deuteron target is demonstrated.
We investigate the importance of the three-nucleon (3N) force contact terms in elastic nucleon-deuteron (Nd) scattering by applying the N$^4$LO$^+$ chiral semi-local momentum space (SMS) regularized nucleon-nucleon (NN) chiral potential supplemented by N$^2$LO and all subleading N$^4$LO three-nucleon force (3NF) contact terms. Strength parameters of the contact terms were obtained by least squares fitting of theoretical predictions to cross section and analyzing powers data at three energies of the impinging nucleon. Although the N$^3$LO contributions to the 3N force were completely neglected,…
Differential cross section of deuteron Compton scattering has been calculated using the Bonn NN-potential, a consistent set of meson-exchange currents and seagulls, and lowest- and higher-order electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon. Estimates of the polarizabilities of the neutron are obtained from recent experimental data.
We calculate the lifetime of the deuteron from dimension-six quark operators that violate baryon number by one unit. We construct an effective field theory for $|ΔB|=1$ interactions that give rise to nucleon and $ΔB=1$ deuteron decay in a systematic expansion. We show that up to and including next-to-leading order the deuteron decay rate is given by the sum of the decay rates of the free proton and neutron. The first nuclear correction is expected to contribute at the few-percent level and comes with an undetermined low-energy constant. We discuss its relation to earlier potential-model calcul…
Deuteron Compton scattering is calculated to $\mathcal{O}(Q^2)$ in pionless effective field theory using a dibaryon approach. The vector amplitude, which was not included in the previous pionless calculations, contributes to the cross section at $\mathcal{O}(Q^2)$ and influences significantly the extracted values of nucleon electric polarizability at incident photon energy 49 MeV. We recommend future high precision deuteron compton scattering experiments being performed at 25-35 MeV photon energy where the nucleon polarizability effects are appreciable and the pionless effective field theory i…
A general analytical expression has been obtained in the diffraction approximation for the polarization of nucleons arising in the deuteron stripping reaction on nuclei at intermediate energies of the incident particles. A tabulated density distribution of the target nucleus and a realistic wave function of the deuteron with correct asymptotic limits at large internucleon distances were used in the calculations. The nucleon-nucleus phase shifts were calculated in the Glauber formalism using the double folding potential. The calculated angular dependencies for the vector analyzing power $A_{y}$…
We investigate the sensitivity of the non-exclusive nucleon induced deuteron breakup reaction to the three-nucleon interaction and distributions of three-nucleon force effects in inclusive spectra. To this end we solve the three-nucleon Faddeev equation at a number of incoming nucleon laboratory energies using the CD Bonn nucleon-nucleon interaction alone or combined with the 2π-exchange Tucson-Melbourne three-nucleon force. Based on these solutions energy spectra of an outgoing nucleon, at a specified detection angle as well as spectra integrated over that angle, are calculated. By integratin…
