We estimate the local density field in redshift shells to a maximum redshift of z=0.3, using photometric redshifts for the 2MASS galaxy catalogue, matched to optical data from the SuperCOSMOS galaxy catalogue. This density-field map is used to predict the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) CMB anisotropies that originate within the volume at z<0.3. We investigate the impact of this estimated ISW foreground signal on large-scale anomalies in the WMAP CMB data. We find that removal of the foreground ISW signal from WMAP data reduces the significance of a number of reported large-scale anomalies in the CMB, including the low quadrupole power and the apparent alignment between the CMB quadrupole and octopole.
We present a new Planck CMB lensing-CMB temperature cross-correlation likelihood that can be used to constrain cosmology via the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect. CMB lensing is an excellent tracer of ISW, and we use the latest PR4 Planck data maps and lensing reconstruction to produce the first public Planck likelihood to constrain this signal. We demonstrate the likelihood by constraining the CMB background temperature from Planck data alone, where the ISW-lensing cross-correlation is a powerful way to break the geometric degeneracy, substantially improving constraints from the CMB and le…
If Dark Energy introduces an acceleration in the universal expansion then large scale gravitational potential wells should be shrinking, causing a blueshift in the CMB photons that cross such structures (Integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect, [ISW]). Galaxy clusters are known to probe those potential wells. In these objects, CMB photons also experience inverse Compton scattering off the hot electrons of the intra-cluster medium, and this results in a distortion with a characteristic spectral signature of the CMB spectrum (the so-called thermal Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect, [tSZ]). Since both the ISW and …
In this paper we present the tools to optimally extract the Lensing-Integrated Sachs Wolfe (L-ISW) bispectrum signal from future CMB data. We implement two different methods to simulate the non-Gaussian CMB maps with the L-ISW signal: a non-perturbative method based on the FLINTS lensing code and the separable mode expansion method. We implement the Komatsu, Spergel and Wandelt (KSW) optimal estimator analysis for the Lensing-ISW bispectrum and we test it on the non-Gaussian simulations in the case of a realistic CMB experimental settings with an inhomogeneous sky coverage. We show that the es…
Recent results of Planck data reveal that the power in the low multipoles of the CMB angular power spectrum, approximately up to $l=30$, is significantly lower than the theoretically predicted in the best fit $Λ$CDM model. In this paper we investigate the possibility of invoking the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect to explain this power deficit at low multipoles. The ISW effect that originates from the late time expansion history of the universe is rich in possibilities given the limited understanding of the origin of dark energy (DE). It is a common understanding that the ISW effect adds t…
The imprints of large-scale structures on the Cosmic Microwave Background can be studied via the CMB lensing and Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) signals. In particular, the stacked ISW signal around supervoids has been claimed in several works to be anomalously high. In this study, we find cluster and void superstructures using four tomographic redshift bins with $0<z<0.8$ from the DESI Legacy Survey, and measure the stacked CMB lensing and ISW signals around them. To compare our measurements with $Λ$CDM model predictions, we construct a mock catalogue with matched galaxy number density and bias,…
In this work we present a method to extract the signal induced by the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect in the cosmic microwave background (CMB). It makes use of the Linear Covariance-Based filter introduced by Barreiro et al., and combines CMB data with any number of large-scale structure (LSS) surveys and lensing information. It also exploits CMB polarization to reduce cosmic variance. The performance of the method has been thoroughly tested with simulations taking into account the impact of non-ideal conditions such as incomplete sky coverage or the presence of noise. In particular, three…
Local non-Gaussianity causes correlations between large scale perturbation modes and the small scale power. The large-scale CMB signal has contributions from the integrated Sachs Wolfe (ISW) effect, which does not correlate with the small scale power. If this ISW contribution can be removed, the sensitivity to local non-Gaussianity is improved. Gravitational lensing and galaxy counts can be used to trace the ISW contribution; in particular we show that the CMB lensing potential is highly correlated with the ISW signal. We construct a nearly-optimal estimator for the local non-Gaussianity param…
We investigate the cosmological information contained in the cross-correlation between the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy pattern and galaxy clusters from future wide surveys. Future surveys will provide cluster catalogues with a number of objects comparable with galaxy catalogues currently used for the detection of the ISW signal by cross-correlation with the CMB anisotropy pattern. By computing the angular power spectra of clusters and the corresponding cross-correlation with CMB, we perform a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) analysis for the ISW …
We forecast the constraints on both Hu-Sawicki model and Bertschinger-Zukin model of modified gravity within the Parameterized Post-Friedmann (PPF) formalism for the Planck satellite experiment by performing the joint analysis of ISW-Lensing bispectrum and CMB power spectrum. We find that, even considering the temperature-temperature mode of CMB power spectrum only, Planck data are expected to reduce the error bars on the modified gravity parameter $B_0$ (related to the present value of Compton wavelength of the extra scalar degree of freedom) at least one order magnitude compared with WMAP. T…
Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect can be estimated by cross-correlating Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) sky with tracers of the local matter distribution. At late cosmic time, the dark energy induced decay of gravitation potential generates a cross-correlation signal on large angular scales. The dominant noise are the intrinsic CMB anisotropies from the inflationary epoch. In this Letter we use CMB polarization to reduce this intrinsic noise. We cross-correlate the microwave sky observed by Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) with the radio source catalog compiled by NRAO VLA Sky S…
We investigate the impact of nonlinear evolution of the gravitational potentials in the LCDM model on the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) contribution to the CMB temperature power spectrum, and on the cross-power spectrum of the CMB and a set of biased tracers of the mass. We use an ensemble of N-body simulations to directly follow the potentials and compare results to perturbation theory (PT). The predictions from PT match the results to high precision for k<0.2 h/Mpc. We compute the nonlinear corrections to the angular power spectrum and find them to be <10% of linear theory for l<100. These co…
The Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect produces a secondary temperature anisotropy of CMB. The main contribution comes from z<2, where dark energy leads to a decay of potentials. As the same photons are gravitationally lensed by these decaying potentials, there exists a high degree of correlation between the ISW effect and CMB lensing, leading to a non-zero three-point correlation (bispectrum) of the observed temperature anisotropy. This ISW-lensing bispectrum, whose shape resembles that of the so-called "local-form" primordial bispectrum parametrized by fNL, is known to be the largest contam…
In this paper, using and implementing a new line of sight CMB code, called CMBAns [1], that allows us to modify H(z) for any given feature at any redshift we study the effect of changes in the expansion history of the Universe on the CMB power spectrum. Motivated by the detailed analytical calculations of the effects of the changes in H(z) on ISW plateau and CMB low multipoles, we study two phenomenological parametric form of the expansion history using WMAP data and through MCMC analysis. Our MCMC analysis shows that the standard LCDM cosmological model is consistent with the CMB data allowin…
We present, for the first time in the literature, a full reconstruction of the total (linear and non-linear) ISW/Rees-Sciama effect in the presence of massive neutrinos, together with its cross-correlations with CMB-lensing and weak-lensing signals. The present analyses make use of all-sky maps extracted via ray-tracing across the gravitational potential distribution provided by the "Dark Energy and Massive Neutrino Universe" (DEMNUni) project, a set of large-volume, high-resolution cosmological N-body simulations, where neutrinos are treated as separate collisionless particles. We correctly r…
We use the cross-correlation power spectrum of the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature anisotropy and galaxy fluctuations to probe the physics of late-time cosmic acceleration. For this purpose, we focus on three models of dark energy that belong to a sub-class of Horndeski theories with the speed of gravity equivalent to that of light: Galileon Ghost Condensate (GGC), Generalized Cubic Covariant Galileon (GCCG), and K-mouflage. In the GGC and GCCG models, the existence of cubic-order scalar self-interactions allows a possibility for realizi…
It has been around fifty years since R. K. Sachs and A. M. Wolfe predicted the existence of anisotropy in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and ten years since the integrated Sachs Wolfe effect (ISW) was first detected observationally. The ISW effect provides us with a unique probe of the accelerating expansion of the Universe. The cross-correlation between the large-scale structure and CMB has been the most promising way to extract the ISW effect from the data. In this article, we review the physics of the ISW effect and summarize recent observational results and interpretations.
The Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect is a large-angle modulation of the cosmic microwave background (CMB), generated when CMB photons traverse evolving potential wells associated with large scale structure (LSS). Recent efforts have been made to reconstruct maps of the ISW signal using information from surveys of galaxies and other LSS tracers, but investigation into how survey systematics affect their reliability has so far been limited. Using simulated ISW and LSS maps, we study the impact of galaxy survey properties and systematic errors on the accuracy of reconstructed ISW signal. We fi…
In this study, we are going to discuss the accelerated expansion of the universe and how this accelerated expansion affects the paths of photons from cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB). Then we will see how wide-field galaxy surveys along with cosmic CMB anisotropy maps can help us in studying dark energy. The cross-correlation of galaxy over/under-density maps with CMB anisotropy maps help us in measuring one of the most useful signatures of dark energy i.e. Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect. ISW effect explains the blue-shifting and red-shifting of CMB photons when they reach to u…
The integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect provides us the information of the time evolution of gravitational potential. The cross-correlation between the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and the large scale structure (LSS) is known as a promising way to extract the ISW effect. Compared to CMB, the matter fluctuation can grow non-linearly and this is represented in the gravitational potential. Compared to the linear ISW effect, this non-linear ISW effect known as the Rees-Sciama (RS) effect shows the unique behavior by changing the anti-correlated cross correlation between the CMB and the mass t…
It is by now well established that the magnitude of the two-point angular-correlation function of the cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropies is anomalously low for angular separations greater than about 60 degrees. Physics explanations of this anomaly typically focus on the properties of the Universe at the surface of last scattering, relying on the fact that large-angle temperature fluctuations are dominated by the Sachs-Wolfe effect (SW). However, these fluctuations also receive important contributions from the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect (ISW) at both early (eISW) and late (…
We investigate the cross-correlation between the cosmic infrared and microwave backgrounds (CIB & CMB) anisotropies through the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect. We first describe the CIB anisotropies using a linearly biased power spectrum, then derive the theoretical angular power spectrum of the CMB-CIB cross-correlation for different instruments and frequencies. We discuss the detectability of the ISW signal by performing a signal-to-noise (SNR) analysis with our predicted spectra. The significances obtained range from 6σ to 7σ in an ideal case, depending on the frequency ; in realistic cases …
As recently pointed out in Ref. [Phys.\ Rev.\ D {\bf 96}, 8, 083502 (2017)] the evolution of the linear matter perturbations in nonadiabatic dynamical dark energy models is almost indistinguishable (quasi-degenerated) to the standard $Λ$CDM scenario. In this work we extend this analysis to CMB observables in particular the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect and its cross-correlation with large scale structure. We find that this feature persists for such CMB related observable reinforcing that new probes and analysis are necessary to reveal the nonadiabatic features in the dark energy sector.
We investigate the possibility to detect the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect by cross-correlating 21-cm surveys at high redshifts with galaxies, in a way similar to the usual CMB-galaxy cross-correlation. The high-redshift 21-cm signal is dominated by CMB photons that travel freely without interacting with the intervening matter, and hence its late-time ISW signature should correlate extremely well with that of the CMB at its peak frequencies. Using the 21-cm temperature brightness instead of the CMB would thus be a further check of the detection of the ISW effect, measured by different in…
Though debated, the existence of claimed large-scale anomalies in the CMB is not totally dismissed. In parallel to the debate over their statistical significance, recent work focussed on masks and secondary anisotropies as potential sources of these anomalies. In this work we investigate simultaneously the impact of the method used to account for masked regions and the impact of the ISW effect, which is the large-scale secondary anisotropy most likely to affect the CMB anomalies. In this sense, our work is an update of both Francis & Peacock 2010 and Kim et al. 2012. Our aim is to identify tre…

I summarize recent results from Smith, Hernandez-Monteagudo & Seljak (2009), a study of the impact of nonlinear evolution of gravitational potentials in the LCDM model on the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) contribution to the cross-power spectrum of the CMB and a set of biased tracers of the mass. We use a large ensemble of N-body simulations to directly follow the potentials and compare the results to analytic perturbation theory (PT) methods. The PT predictions match our results to high precision for k<0.2 Mpc/h. We analyze the CMB-density tracer cross-spectrum using simulations and renormaliz…
We use the optimised skew-spectrum as well as the skew-spectra associated with the Minkowski Functionals (MFs) to test the possibility of using the cross-correlation of the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect (ISW) and lensing of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation to detect deviations in the theory of gravity away from General Relativity (GR). We find that the although both statistics can put constraints on modified gravity, the optimised skew-spectra are especially sensitive to the parameter $\rm B_0$ that denotes the the {\em Compton wavelength} of the scalaron at the present epoch. W…
The decay of gravitational potentials in the presence of dark energy leads to an additional, late-time contribution to anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) at large angular scales. The imprint of this so-called integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect to the CMB angular power spectrum has been detected and studied in detail, but reconstructing its spatial contributions to the CMB $\textit{map}$, which would offer the tantalizing possibility of separating the early- from the late-time contributions to CMB temperature fluctuations, is more challenging. Here we study the technique for…
Any Dark Energy (DE) or Modified Gravity (MG) model that deviates from a cosmological constant requires a consistent treatment of its perturbations, which can be described in terms of an effective entropy perturbation and an anisotropic stress. We have considered a recently proposed generic parameterisation of DE/MG perturbations and compared it to data from the Planck satellite and six galaxy catalogues, including temperature-galaxy (Tg), CMB lensing-galaxy and galaxy-galaxy (gg) correlations. Combining these observables of structure formation with tests of the background expansion allows us …
We study the effect of weak lensing by cosmic (super-)strings on the higher-order statistics of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). A cosmic string segment is expected to cause weak lensing as well as an integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect, the so-called Gott-Kaiser-Stebbins (GKS) effect, to the CMB temperature fluctuation, which are thus naturally cross-correlated. We point out that, in the presence of such a correlation, yet another kind of the post-recombination CMB temperature bispectra, the ISW-lensing bispectra, will arise in the form of products of the auto- and cross-power spectra. …
It is well known that Thomson scattering of CMB photons in galaxy clusters introduces new anisotropies in the CMB radiation field, but however little attention is payed to the fraction of CMB photons that are scattered off the line of sight, causing a slight blurring of the CMB anisotropies present at the moment of scattering. In this work we study this {\it blurring} effect, and find that it has a non-negligible impact on estimations of the kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ) effect: it induces a 10% correction in 20-40% of the clusters/groups, and a 100% correction in $\sim 5$% of the clusters …
In a flat universe dominated by dark energy, the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect can be detected as a large-angle cross-correlation between the CMB and a tracer of large scale structure. We investigate whether the inconclusive ISW signal derived from 2MASS galaxy maps can be improved upon by including photometric redshifts for the 2MASS galaxies. These redshifts are derived by matching the 2MASS data with optical catalogues generated from SuperCOSMOS scans of major photographic sky surveys. We find no significant ISW signal in this analysis; an ISW effect of the form expected in a LambdaCD…
In this paper, we combine the the latest observational data, including the WMAP five-year data (WMAP5), the baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) and type Ia supernovae (SN) "union" compilation, and use the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method to determine the dark energy parameters. We pay particular attention to the Integrated Sache-Wolfe (ISW) data from the cross-correlations of cosmic microwave background (CMB) and large scale structure (LSS). In the ΛCDM model, we find that the ISW data, as a complement to the WMAP data, could significantly improve the constraint of curvature Ω_k. We also check t…
One of the physical features of a dark-energy-dominated universe is the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation, which gives us a direct observational window to detect and study dark energy. The AllWISE data release of the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) has a large number of point sources, which span over a wide redshift range including where the ISW effect is maximized. AllWISE data is thus very well-suited for the ISW effect studies. In this study, we cross-correlate AllWISE galaxy and active galactic nucleus (AGN) overdensities with…
Galaxies are often used as tracers of the large scale structure (LSS) to measure the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect (ISW) by cross-correlating the galaxy survey maps with the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) map. We use the Cosmic Infrared Background (CIB) as a tracer of the LSS to perform a theoretical CIB-CMB cross-correlation to measure the ISW for different Planck HFI frequencies. We discuss the detectability of this ISW signal using a Signal-to-noise ratio analysis and find that the ISW detected this way can provide us with the highest SNR for a single tracer ranging from 5 to 6.7 (maximu…
On large scales, the anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) reflect not only the primordial field but also the energy gain when photons traverse decaying gravitational potentials of large scales structure, the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect. Decomposing the anisotropy signal into a primordial piece and an ISW component is more urgent than ever as cosmologists strive to understand the Universe on the largest of scales. Here we present a likelihood technique for extracting the ISW signal from measurements of the CMB, the distribution of galaxies, and maps of gravitational len…
Assuming General Relativity is correct on large-scales, Redshift-Space Distortions (RSDs) and the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect (ISW) are both sensitive to the time derivative of the linear growth function. We investigate the extent to which these probes provide complementary or redundant information when they are combined to constrain the evolution of the linear velocity power spectrum, often quantified by the function $f(z)σ_8(z)$, where $f$ is the logarithmic derivative of $σ_8$ with respect to $(1+z)$. Using a spherical Fourier-Bessel (SFB) expansion for galaxy number counts and a spherica…
We study the effects of modified theories of gravity on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies power spectrum, and in particular on its large scales, where the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect is important. Starting with a general parametrisation, we then specialise to f(R) theories and theories with Yukawa-type interactions between dark matter particles. In these models, the evolution of the metric potentials is altered, and the contribution to the ISW effect can differ significantly from that in the standard model of cosmology. We proceed to compare these predictions with obse…
The concordance particle creation model - a class of $Λ(t)$CDM cosmologies - is studied using large scale structure (LSS) formation, with particular attention to the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect. The evolution of the gravitational potential and the amplitude of the cross-correlation of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) signal with LSS surveys are calculated in detail. We properly include in our analysis the peculiarities involving the baryonic dynamics of the $Λ(t)$CDM model which were not included in previous works. Although both the $Λ(t)$CDM and the standard cosmology are in agre…
We present the cross-correlation of the density map of LRGs and the temperature fluctuation in the CMB as measured by the WMAP5 observations. The LRG samples were extracted from imaging data of the SDSS based on two previous spectroscopic redshift surveys, the SDSS-LRG and the 2SLAQ surveys at average redshifts z~0.35 and z~0.55. In addition we have added a higher-redshift photometric LRG sample based on the selection of the AAOmega LRG redshift survey at z~0.7. The total LRG sample thus comprises 1.5 million galaxies, sampling a redshift range of 0.2 < z < 0.9 over ~7600 square degrees of the…
The integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect and its non-linear extension Rees-Sciama (RS) effect provide us the information of the time evolution of gravitational potential. The cross-correlation between the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and the large scale structure (LSS) is known as a promising way to extract the ISW (RS) effect. It is known that the RS effect shows the unique behavior by changing the anti-correlated cross correlation between the CMB and the mass tracer into the positively correlated cross correlation compared to the linear ISW effect. We show that the dependence of this fli…
The cosmic microwave background (CMB) is sensitive to the recent phase of accelerated cosmic expansion through the late-time integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect, which manifests as secondary temperature fluctuations on large angular scales. However, the large cosmic variance from primary CMB fluctuations limits the usefulness of this effect in constraining dark energy or modified gravity. In this paper, we propose a novel method to separate the ISW signal from the primary signal using gravitational lensing, based on the fact that the ISW signal is, to a good approximation, not gravitationally …
The Planck CMB experiment has delivered the best constraints so far on primordial non-Gaussianity, ruling out early-Universe models of inflation that generate large non-Gaussianity. Although small improvements in the CMB constraints are expected, the next frontier of precision will come from future large-scale surveys of the galaxy distribution. The advantage of such surveys is that they can measure many more modes than the CMB -- in particular, forthcoming radio surveys with the SKA will cover huge volumes. Radio continuum surveys deliver the largest volumes, but with the disadvantage of no r…
We describe a method using the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect caused by individual inhomogeneities to determine the cosmological parameters, $H_0$, $Ω_{\rm m}$, and $Ω_Λ$, etc. This ISW-redshift test requires detailed knowledge of the internal kinematics of a set of individual density perturbations, e.g., galaxy clusters and/or cosmic voids, in particular their density and velocity profiles, and their mass accretion rates. It assumes the density perturbations are isolated and imbedded (equivalently compensated) and makes use of the newly found relation between the ISW temperature perturba…
Cosmological models with Galileon gravity are an alternative to the standard $Λ{\rm CDM}$ paradigm with testable predictions at the level of its self-accelerating solutions for the expansion history, as well as large-scale structure formation. Here, we place constraints on the full parameter space of these models using data from the cosmic microwave background (CMB) (including lensing), baryonic acoustic oscillations (BAO) and the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect. We pay special attention to the ISW effect for which we use the cross-spectra, $C_\ell^{\rm T g}$, of CMB temperature maps and f…
A detection of the stacked integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) signal in the CMB of rare superstructures identified in the SDSS Luminous Red Galaxy catalogue has been reported at very high statistical significance. The magnitude of the observed signal has previously been argued to be more than 3 standard deviations larger than the theoretical ΛCDM expectation. However, this calculation was made in the linear approximation, and relied on assumptions that may potentially have caused the ΛCDM expectation to be underestimated. Here we update the theoretical model calculation and compare it with an analys…
There is currently a debate over the existence of claimed statistical anomalies in the cosmic microwave background (CMB), recently confirmed in Planck data. Recent work has focussed on methods for measuring statistical significance, on masks and on secondary anisotropies as potential causes of the anomalies. We investigate simultaneously the method for accounting for masked regions and the foreground integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) signal. We search for trends in different years of WMAP CMB data with different mask treatments. We reconstruct the ISW field due to the 2 Micron All-Sky Survey (2MASS…
We compute the linear order, general relativistic corrections to angular redshift fluctuations (ARF), a new cosmological observable built upon density-weighted two-dimensional (2D) maps of galaxy redshifts. We start with an existing approach for galaxy/source counts developed in the Newtonian gauge, and generalize it to ARF, modifying for this purpose a standard Boltzmann code. Our calculations allow us identifying the velocity terms as the leading corrections on large scales, emphasizing the sensitivity of ARF to peculiar, cosmological velocity fields. Just like for standard 2D clustering, th…
The late-time integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) signal in the CMB temperature anisotropies is an important probe of dark energy when it can be detected by cross-correlation with large-scale structure surveys. Because of their huge sky area, surveys in the radio are well-suited to ISW detection. We show that 21cm intensity mapping and radio continuum surveys with the SKA in Phase~1 promise a $\sim5σ$ detection if we use tomography, with a similar forecast for the precursor EMU survey. In SKA Phase~2, the 21cm galaxy redshift survey and the continuum survey could deliver a $\sim6σ$ detection. Our ana…
We present full-sky maps of the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect (ISW) for the MICE Grand Challenge lightcone simulation up to redshift 1.4. The maps are constructed in the linear regime using spherical Bessel transforms. We compare and contrast this procedure against analytical approximations found in the literature. By computing the ISW in the linear regime, we remove the substantial computing and storage resources required to calculate the non-linear Rees-Sciama effect. Since the linear ISW at low redshift $z\leq1$, at large angular scales, and after matter domination is $\sim 10^{2}\times$ la…
The integrated Sachs-Wolfe imprint of extreme structures in the cosmic web probes the dynamical nature of dark energy. Looking through typical cosmic voids, no anomalous signal has been reported. On the contrary, supervoids, associated with large-scale fluctuations in the gravitational potential, have shown potentially disturbing excess signals. In this study, we used the Jubilee ISW simulation to demonstrate how the stacked signal depends on the void definition. We found that large underdensities, with at least $\approx5$ merged sub-voids, show a peculiar ISW imprint shape with central cold s…
The late-time integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) imprint of $R\gtrsim 100~h^{-1}{\rm Mpc}$ super-structures is sourced by evolving large-scale potentials due to a dominant dark energy component in the $Λ$CDM model. The aspect that makes the ISW effect distinctly interesting is the repeated observation of stronger-than-expected imprints from supervoids at $z\lesssim0.9$. Here we analyze the un-probed key redshift range $0.8<z<2.2$ where the ISW signal is expected to fade in $Λ$CDM, due to a weakening dark energy component, and eventually become consistent with zero in the matter dominated epoch. On t…
We measure the average temperature decrement on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) produced by voids selected in the SDSS DR7 spectroscopic redshift galaxy catalog, spanning redshifts $0<z<0.44$. We find an imprint of amplitude between 2.6 and 2.9$μK$ as viewed through a compensated top-hat filter scaled to the radius of each void; we assess the statistical significance of the imprint at ~2$σ$. We make crucial use of $N$-body simulations to calibrate our analysis. As expected, we find that large voids produce cold spots on the CMB through the Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect. However, we…
The Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect probes the late-time expansion history of the universe, offering direct constraints on dark energy. Here we present our measurements of the ISW signal at redshifts of $\bar{z}=0.35$, $0.55$ and $0.68$, using the cross-correlation of the Planck CMB temperature map with $\sim0.5$ million Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) selected from the VST ATLAS survey. We then combine these with previous measurements based on WMAP and similar SDSS LRG samples, providing a total sample of $\sim2.1$ million LRGs covering $\sim12000$ deg$^2$ of sky. At $\bar{z}=0.35$ and $\bar…
The integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect is caused by the decay of cosmological gravitational potential, and is therefore a unique probe of dark energy. However, its robust detection is still problematic. Various tensions between different data sets, different large scale structure (LSS) tracers, and between data and the $Λ$CDM theory prediction, exist. We propose a novel method of ISW measurement by cross correlating CMB and the LSS traced by "low-density-position" (LDP, \citet{2019ApJ...874....7D}). It isolates the ISW effect generated by low-density regions of the universe, but insensitive t…
One of the main challenges of modern cosmology is to understand the nature of dark energy. The Integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect is sensitive to dark energy and presents an independent signature of dark energy in the absence of modified gravity and curvature. The ISW effect occurs on large scales, where cosmic variance is high and where there are large amounts of missing data in the CMB and large scale structure maps due to Galactic confusion. Moreover, existing methods in the literature often make strong assumptions about the statistics of the underlying fields or estimators. Together these…
