A microscopic theory for the spin triplet Cooper pairing in non-centrosymmetric superconductors like CePt_3Si and CeTSi_3 (T=Rh, Ir) is presented. The lack of inversion symmetry leads to new anomalous spin fluctuations which stabilize the triplet part in addition to the singlet part originating from the centrosymmetric spin fluctuations. It is shown that both parts have similar nontrivial momentum dependence of A_1 type. Therefore the mixed singlet-triplet gap function has accidental line nodes on both Fermi surface sheets which are stable as function of temperature. This gap function explains the salient features of CePt_3Si and CeTSi_3 superconductors.
Muon spin rotation and relaxation experiments on the centrosymmetric intermetallic superconductor LaNiGa$_2$ are reported. The appearance of spontaneous magnetic fields coincides with the onset of superconductivity, implying that the superconducting state breaks time reversal symmetry, similarly to non-centrosymmetric LaNiC$_2$. Only four triplet states are compatible with this observation, all of which are non-unitary triplets. This suggests that LaNiGa$_2$ is the centrosymmetric analogue of LaNiC$_2$. We argue that these materials are representatives of a new family of paramagnetic non-unita…
We propose a route to achieve odd-parity spin-triplet superconductivity in metallic collinear antiferromagnets with inversion symmetry. Owing to the existence of hidden antiunitary symmetry, which we call the effective time-reversal symmetry (eTRS), the Fermi surfaces of ordinary antiferromagnetic metals are generally spin-degenerate, and spin-singlet pairing is favored. However, by introducing a local inversion symmetry breaking perturbation that also breaks the eTRS, we can lift the degeneracy to obtain spin-polarized Fermi surfaces. In the weak-coupling limit, the spin-polarized Fermi surfa…
A weak-coupling formalism for superconducting states possessing both singlet (even parity) and triplet (odd parity) components of the order parameter in centrosymmetric crystals is developed. It is shown that the quasiparticle energy spectrum may be non-degenerate even if the triplet component is unitary. The superconducting gap of a mixed-parity state may have line nodes in the strong spin-orbit coupling limit. The pseudospin carried by the superconducting electrons is calculated, from which follows a prediction of a kink anomaly in the temperature dependence of muon spin relaxation rate. The…
We calculate the Andreev bound states and the corresponding Josephson current for an asymmetric 2-dimensional Josephson junction by solving Bogoliubov-de-Gennes equations. The junction consists of a non-centrosymmetric superconductor (NCS) separated by a tunneling barrier with a variable height to a conventional s-wave superconductor. In addition to the antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling in the NCS on the one side, this asymmetric junction gives rise to a Rashba spin-orbit coupling at the interface. We explore the rich parameter space and recover various limiting cases such as s-wave/p-wave jun…
We study the parity-mixed superconductivity in locally non-centrosymmetric systems. In multilayer systems an inhomogeneous Rashba spin-orbit coupling is induced by the local violation of inversion symmetry. Our previous study revealed that a pair-density wave (PDW) phase, with a sign-modulated order parameter, is stabilized in the spin-singlet multilayer superconductors owing to the spin-orbit coupling. In this letter, we show that the uniform spin-triplet superconductivity emerges through parity mixing in the PDW phase, taking into account a weak interaction in the spin-triplet channel, which…
The results from muon spin relaxation experiments on the non-centrosymmetric intermetallic superconductor LaNiC$_2$ are reported. We find that the onset of superconductivity coincides with the appearance of spontaneous magnetic fields, implying that in the superconducting state time reversal symmetry is broken. An analysis of the possible pairing symmetries suggests only four triplet states compatible with this observation, all of which are non-unitary. They include the intriguing possibility of triplet pairing with the full point group symmetry of the crystal, which is only possible in a non-…
Superconducting crystals with lack of inversion symmetry can potentially host unconventional pairing. However, till date, no direct conclusive experimental evidence of such unconventional order parameters in non-centrosymmetric superconductors has been reported. In this paper, through direct measurement of the superconducting energy gap by scanning tunnelling spectroscopy, we report the existence of both $s$-wave (singlet) and $p$-wave (triplet) pairing symmetries in non-centrosymmetric Ru$_7$B$_3$. Our temperature and magnetic field dependent studies also indicate that the relative amplitudes…
We examine the depairing field $H_{c2}(T)$ of non-centrosymmetric superconductors with a spin-orbit coupling larger than the Zeeman energy at $H_{c2}(0)$ by taking account of the mixing of spin-singlet and triplet pairing states due to the missing parity. When the singlet and triplet pairing components are mixed with an equal weight in a cubic non-centrosymmetric system, the paramagnetic depairing effect is significantly suppressed so that $H_{c2}(T)$ approaches its orbital-limited value. A similar event also occurs in a quasi two-dimensional Rashba non-centrosymmetric system. The present resu…
Tunneling spectroscopy at surfaces of unconventional superconductors has proven an invaluable tool for obtaining information about the pairing symmetry. It is known that mid gap Andreev bound states manifest itself as a zero bias conductance peak in tunneling spectroscopy. The zero bias conductance peak is a signature for a non-trivial pair potential that exhibits different signs on different regions of the Fermi surface. Here, we review recent theoretical results on the spectrum of Andreev bound states near interfaces and surfaces in non-centrosymmetric superconductors. We introduce a theoret…
Symmetry of the crystal lattice can be a determining factor for the structure of Cooper pairs in unconventional superconductors. In this study we extend the discussion of superconductivity in non-centrosymmetric materials to the case when inversion symmetry is missing locally, but is present on a global level. Concretely, we investigate the staggered non-centrosymmetricity within a regular sublattice structure, in some analogy to the discussion of superconductivity in antiferromagnetic systems. Three crystal structures are analyzed in detail as illustrative examples for the extended classifica…
The theory of quasiparticle interference (QPI) for non-centrosymmetric (NCS) superconductors with Rashba spin-orbit coupling is developed using T-matrix theory in Born approximation. We show that qualitatively new effects in the QPI pattern originate from the Rashba spin-orbit coupling: The resulting spin coherence factors lead to a distinct difference of charge- and spin- QPI and to an induced spin anisotropy in the latter even for isotropic magnetic impurity scattering. In particular a cross - QPI appears describing the spin oscillation pattern due to nonmagnetic impurity scattering which is…
In this work, we systematically study two phases, called Andreev $π$-phase and orbital-phase, and their influence on the Josephson effect. When the system is time-reversal invariant and centrosymmetric, these two phases only appear in the odd-parity pairings. The Andreev $π$-phase has nothing to do with the specific form of the odd-parity pairings and means an intrinsic $π$-phase between the spin-triplet Cooper pairs entering and leaving CTSCs in the Andreev reflections. The orbital-phase corresponds to the phase difference between the spin-triplet Cooper pairs with opposite spin polarization …
We develop the full t-matrix theory of quasiparticle interference (QPI) for non-centrosymmetric (NCS) superconductors with Rashba spin-orbit coupling. We give a closed solution for the QPI spectrum for arbitrary combination and strength of nonmagnetic (Vc) and magnetic (Vm) impurity scattering potentials in terms of integrated normal and anomalous Green's functions. The theory is applied to a realistic 2D model of the Ce-based 131- type heavy fermion superconductors. We discuss the QPI dependence on frequency, composition and strength of scattering and compare with Born approximation results. …
We report ^{11}B NMR measurements in non-centrosymmetric superconductors Mg_{9.3}Ir_{19}B_{16.7} (T_c=5.8 K) and Mg_{10.5}Ir_{19}B_{17.1} (T_c=4.8 K). The spin lattice relaxation rate and the Knight shift indicate that the Cooper pairs are predominantly in the spin-singlet state with an isotropic gap. However, Mg_{10.5}Ir_{19}B_{17.1} is found to have more defects and the spin susceptibility remains finite even in the zero-temperature limit. We interpret this result as that the defects enhance the spin-orbit coupling and bring about more spin-triplet component.
We present a discussion of superconductivity in non-centrosymmetric superconductors with spin-orbit coupling. A general expression for the quasiparticle excitation energy is derived. The superconducting states for the point group C2v are classified by symmetry in the limit of weak spin-orbit coupling. A non-unitary triplet pairing gap function can account for observations of broken time-reversal symmetry and nodes in the superconducting state of LaNiC2; however such a gap function also has a gapless branch and requires vanishing spin-orbit coupling.
$\rm CePt_3Si$ is a novel heavy fermion superconductor, crystallising in the $\rm CePt_3B$ structure as a tetragonally distorted low symmetry variant of the $\rm AuCu_3$ structure type. $\rm CePt_3Si$ exhibits antiferromagnetic order at $T_N \approx 2.2$ K and enters into a heavy fermion superconducting state at $T_c \approx 0.75$ K. Large values of $H_{c2}' \approx -8.5$ T/K and $H_{c2}(0) \approx 5$ T refer to heavy quasiparticles forming Cooper pairs. Hitherto, $\rm CePt_3Si$ is the first heavy fermion superconductor without a center of symmetry.
We study edge states of non-centrosymmetric superconductors where spin-singlet d-wave pairing mixes with spin-triplet p (or f)-wave one by spin-orbit coupling. For dxy-wave pairing, the obtained Andreev bound state has an anomalous dispersion as compared to conventional helical edge modes. A unique topologically protected time-reversal invariant Majorana fermion appears at the edge. The charge conductance in the non-centrosymmetric superconductor junctions reflects the anomalous structures of the dispersions, particularly the time-reversal invariant Majorana fermion is manifested as a zero bia…
In non-centrosymmetric superconductors, where the crystal structure lacks a centre of inversion, parity is no longer a good quantum number and an electronic antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling (ASOC) is allowed to exist by symmetry. If this ASOC is sufficiently large, it has profound consequences on the superconducting state. For example, it generally leads to a superconducting pairing state which is a mixture of spin-singlet and spin-triplet components. The possibility of such novel pairing states, as well as the potential for observing a variety of unusual behaviours, led to intensive theoreti…
We study Andreev bound state (ABS) and surface density of state (SDOS) of non-centrosymmetric superconductor where spin-singlet $d$-wave pairing mixes with spin-triplet $p$ (or $f)$-wave one by spin-orbit coupling. For $d_{xy} + p$-wave pairing, ABS appears as a zero energy state. The present ABS is a Majorana edge mode preserving the time reversal symmetry. We calculate topological invariant number and discuss the relevance to a single Majorana edge mode. In the presence of the Majorana edge mode, the SDOS depends strongly on the direction of the Zeeman field.
We study Andreev reflection at an interface between a half metal and a superconductor with spin-orbit interaction. While the absence of minority carriers in the half metal makes singlet Andreev reflection impossible, the spin-orbit interaction gives rise to triplet Andreev reflection, i.e., the reflection of a majority electron into a majority hole or vice versa. As an application of our calculation, we consider a thin half metal film or wire laterally attached to a superconducting contact. If the half metal is disorder free, an excitation gap is opened that is proportional to the spin-orbit i…
We determine the upper critical field $μ_0 H_{c2}(T_c)$ of non-centrosymmetric superconductor $Y_2 C_3$ using two distinct methods: the bulk magnetization M(T) and the tunnel-diode oscillator (TDO) based impedance measurements. It is found that the upper critical field reaches a value of 30T at zero temperature which is above the weak-coupling Pauli paramagnetic limit. We argue that the observation of such a large $μ_0 H_{c2}(0)$ in $Y_2 C_3$ could be attributed to the admixture of spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing states as a result of broken inversion symmetry.
We study the spin transport properties of the non-centrosymmetric superconductor with time-reversal-symmetry where spin-triplet $(p_{x} \pm i p_{y})$-wave and spin-singlet s-wave pair potential can mix each other. We show that when the amplitude of $(p_{x} \pm ip_{y})$-wave pair potential is larger than that of s-wave one, the superconducting state belongs to the topologically nontrivial class analogous to the quantum spin Hall system, and the resulting helical edge modes as Andreev bound states are topologically protected. We find that the incident angle dependent spin polarized current flows…
We formulate a theory for the polarization-dependence of the electronic (pair-breaking) Raman response for the recently discovered non-centrosymmetric superconductors in the clean limit at zero temperature. Possible applications include the systems CePt$_3$Si and Li$_2$Pd$_x$Pt$_{3-x}$B which reflect the two important classes of the involved spin-orbit coupling. We provide analytical expressions for the Raman vertices for these two classes and calculate the polarization dependence of the electronic spectra. We predict a two-peak structure and different power laws with respect to the unknown re…
Topological crystalline superconductivity in the locally non-centrosymmetric multilayer superconductors (SCs) is proposed. We study the odd-parity pair-density wave (PDW) state induced by the spin-singlet pairing interaction through the spin-orbit coupling. It is shown that the PDW state is a topological crystalline SC protected by a mirror symmetry, although it is topologically trivial according to the classification based on the standard topological periodic table. The topological property of the mirror subsectors is intuitively explained by adiabatically changing the BdG Hamiltonian. A subs…
We study non-centrosymmetric topological superconductivity in correlated doped quantum spin-Hall insulators (QSHI) on honeycomb lattice without inversion symmetry where the intrinsic (Kane-Mele) and Rashba spin-orbit couplings can in general exist. We explore the generic topologically non-trivial superconducting phase diagram of the model system. Over a certain parameter space, the parity-mixing superconducting state with co-existing spin-singlet $d$+$id$ and spin-triplet $p$+$ip$-wave pairing is found. On a zigzag nanoribbon, the parity-mixing superconducting state shows co-existing helical a…
In a superconductor that lacks inversion symmetry, the spatial part of the Cooper pair wave function has a reduced symmetry, allowing for the mixing of spin-singlet and spin-triplet Cooper pairing channels and thus providing a pathway to a non-trivial superconducting state. Materials with a non-centrosymmetric crystal structure and with strong spin-orbit coupling are a platform to realize these possibilities. Here, we report the synthesis and characterisation of high quality crystals of Sn$_4$As$_3$, with non-centrosymmetric unit cell ($R3m$). We have characterised the normal and superconducti…
We study novel effects in non-centrosymmetric superconductors arising from their unique coupling of Cooper-pair condensate and elasticity. We show that although the much discussed Lifshitz coupling is not observable in a uniform bulk state, it strikingly endows dislocations with a fractional magnetic flux. We also predict a generation of voltage-free strain by a DC current in a P and T-breaking Josephson junction. Viewing superconductors through the lens of higher-form symmetries we identify the Lifshitz coupling as a chemical potential for the approximately conserved winding number, drawing a…
The theoretical studies on the electronic and lattice properties of the series of non-centrosymmetric superconductors ThTSi, where T = Co, Ni, Ir, and Pt are presented. The electronic band structure and crystal parameters were optimized within the density functional theory. The spin-orbit coupling leads to the splitting of the electronic bands and Fermi surfaces, with the stronger effect observed for the compounds with the heavier atoms Ir and Pt. The possible mixing of the spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairing in the superconducting state is discussed. The phonon dispersion relations and phon…
We report ^{11}B and ^{195}Pt NMR measurements in non-centrosymmetric superconductor Li_2Pt_3B. We find that the spin susceptibility measured by the Knight shift remains unchanged across the superconducting transition temperature T_c. With decreasing temperature (T) below T_c, the spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 decreases with no coherence peak and is in proportion to T^3. These results indicate that the Cooper pair is in the spin-triplet state and that there exist line nodes in the superconducting gap function. They are in sharp contrast with those in the isostructural Li_2Pd_3B which is a…
Electrical resistivity, specific heat and NMR measurements classify non-centrosymmetric $\rm Mo_3Al_2C$ ($β$-Mn type, space group $P4_132$) as a strong-coupled superconductor with $T_c = 9$~K deviating notably from BCS-like behaviour. The absence of a Hebbel-Slichter peak, a power law behaviour of the spin-lattice relaxation rate (from $^{27}$Al NMR), a $T^3$ temperature dependence of the specific heat and a pressure enhanced $T_c$ suggest unconventional superconductivity with a nodal structure of the superconducting gap. Relativistic DFT calculations reveal a splitting of degenerate electroni…
We study the electrodynamics of spin triplet superconductors including dipolar interactions, which give rise to an interplay between the collective spin dynamics of the condensate and orbital Meissner screening currents. Within this theory, we identify a class of spin waves that originate from the coupled dynamics of the spin-symmetry breaking triplet order parameter and the electromagnetic field. In particular, we study magnetostatic spin wave modes that are localized to the sample surface. We show that these surface modes can be excited and detected using experimental techniques such as micr…
Paramagnetic effects are shown to result in the appearance of a triplet component of order parameter in a vortex phase of a d-wave superconductor in the absence of impurities. This component, which breaks both parity and time-reversal symmetries of Cooper pairs, is expected to be of the order of unity in a number of modern superconductors such as organic, high-Tc, and some others. A generic phase diagram of such type-IV superconductors, which are singlet ones at H=0 and characterized by singlet-triplet mixed Copper pairs with broken time-reversal symmetry in a vortex phase, is discussed.
We study the spin-orbit coupling in spin-triplet Cooper pairs and clarify multiple superconducting (SC) phases in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$. Based on the analysis of the three-orbital Hubbard model with atomic LS coupling, we show some selection rules of the spin-orbit coupling in Cooper pairs. The spin-orbit coupling is small when the two-dimensional $γ$-band is the main cause of the superconductivity, although the LS coupling is much larger than the SC gap. Considering this case, we investigate multiple SC transitions in the magnetic fields for both H // [001] and H // [100] using the Ginzburg-Landau th…
At the interface between a ferromagnetic insulator and a superconductor there is a coupling between the spins of the two materials. We show that when a supercurrent carried by triplet Cooper pairs flows through the superconductor, the coupling induces a magnon spin current in the adjacent ferromagnetic insulator. The effect is dominated by Cooper pairs polarized in the same direction as the ferromagnetic insulator, so that charge and spin supercurrents produce similar results. Our findings demonstrate a way of converting Cooper pair supercurrents to magnon spin currents.
Helical edge states exist in the mixed spin-singlet and -triplet phase of a noncentrosymmetric superconductor (NCSS) when the pair amplitude (PA) in the negative helicity band, $Δ_-$, is smaller than the PA in the positive helicity band, $Δ_+$, i.e., when the PA in the triplet component is more than the same in the singlet component. We numerically determine energies of these edge states as a function of $γ= Δ_-/Δ_+$. The presence of these edge states is reflected in the tunneling process from a normal metal to an NCSS across a bias energy $eV$: (i) Angle resolved spin conductance (SC) obeying…
The existence of spin-triplet superconductivity in non-collinear magnetic heterostructures with superconductors is by now well established. This observation lays the foundation of superconducting spintronics with the aim to create a low-power consuming devices in order to replace the conventional electronics limited by heating. From a fundamental point of view the investigation of the structure and properties of spin-triplet Cooper pairs continues. Recently, spectroscopic evidence has shown to offer more detailed insights in the structure of triplet Cooper pairs than the supercurrent. Hence, w…
The magnetic penetration depth $λ(T)$ and the upper critical field $% μ_{0}H_{c2}(T_{c})$ of the non-centrosymmetric (NCS) superconductor Y$_{2} $C$_{3}$ have been measured using a tunnel-diode (TDO) based resonant oscillation technique. We found that the penetration depth $λ(T)$ and its corresponding superfluid density $ρ_{s}(T)$ show linear temperature dependence at very low temperatures ($T\ll T_{c}$), indicating the existence of line nodes in the superconducting energy gap. Moreover, the upper critical field $μ_{0}H_{c2}(T_{c})$ presents an upturn at low temperatures with a rather high val…
We report a $μ$SR investigation of a non-centrosymmetric superconductor (LaNiC$_2$) in single crystal form. Compared to previous $μ$SR studies of non-centrosymmetric superconducting polycrystalline and powder samples, the unambiguous orientation of single crystals enables a simultaneous determination of the absolute value of the magnetic penetration depth and the vortex core size from measurements that probe the magnetic field distribution in the vortex state. The magnetic field dependence of these quantities unambiguously demonstrates the presence of two nodeless superconducting energy gaps. …
We consider the Josephson effect through a thin spin-orbit coupled layer in the presence of an exchange field, and discover a set of supercurrent vortices appearing in the system which can be controllably moved around in the system by varying either the direction of the exchange field, its strength, or the spin-orbit coupling magnitude via a gate voltage. We refer to this phenomenon as a supercurrent vortex pinball effect and show that its origin is the spin polarization of the triplet Cooper pairs induced in the system. The supercurrent vortices thus arise from what resembles a Cooper pair-in…
We report the synthesis and measurements of magnetic, transport, and thermal properties of polycrystalline Nb0.18Re0.82, which has a superconducting transition at Tc ~ 8.8 K. The non-centrosymmetric alpha-Mn structure of the compound is confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Using the measured values for the lower critical field Hc1, upper critical field Hc2, and the specific heat C, we estimate the thermodynamic critical field Hc(0), coherence length ξ(0), penetration depth λ(0), and the Ginzburg-Landau parameter κ(0). The specific heat jump at Tc, ΔC/γTc = 1.86, suggests that Nb0.18Re0.82 is modera…
We formulate a kinetic theory for non-centrosymmetric superconductors at low temperatures in the clean limit. The transport equations are solved quite generally in spin- and particle-hole (Nambu) space by performing first a transformation into the band basis and second a Bogoliubov transformation to the quasiparticle-quasihole phase space. Our result is a particle-hole-symmetric, gauge-invariant and charge conserving description, which is valid in the whole quasiclassical regime. We calculate the current response, the specific heat capacity, and the Raman response function. For the Raman case,…
Vortex lattice structures to occur in Rashba non-centrosymmetric superconductors under a magnetic field parallel to the basal plane are studied by assuming a singlet Cooper pairing and taking account of both the paramagnetic and orbital depairings. A vortex lattice of Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) type with modulation perpendicular to the field is expected to occur in the limit of vanishing ${\tilde η}$, where ${\tilde η}$ is the spin-orbit coupling {\it normalized} by Fermi energy. As ${\tilde η}$ increases, however, this state tends to be replaced by another new vortex lattice with…
We report superconductivity and magnetism in a new family of topological semimetals, the ternary half Heusler compounds $R$PdBi ($R$ : rare earth). In this series, tuning of the rare earth $f$-electron component allows for simultaneous control of both lattice density via lanthanide contraction, as well as the strength of magnetic interaction via de Gennes scaling, allowing for a unique tuning of both the normal state band inversion strength, superconducting pairing and magnetically ordered ground states. Antiferromagnetism with ordering vector (0.5,0.5,0.5) occurs below a Neéel temperature tha…
In superconducting spintronics, it is essential to generate spin-triplet Cooper pairs on demand. Up to now, proposals to do so concentrate on hybrid structures in which a superconductor (SC) is combined with a magnetically ordered material (or an external magnetic field). We, instead, identify a novel way to create and isolate spin-triplet Cooper pairs in the absence of any magnetic ordering. This achievement is only possible because we drive a system with strong spin-orbit interaction--the Dirac surface states of a strong topological insulator (TI)--out of equilibrium. In particular, we consi…

Vortex phase in a singlet superconductor in the absence of impurities is shown to be absolutely unstable with respect to the appearance of a triplet component which breaks both inversion and time-reversal symmetries of Cooper pairs. Symmetry breaking paramagnetic effects are demonstrated to be of the order of unity if the orbital upper critical field, Hc2(0), is of the order of Clogston paramagnetic limiting field, Hp. We suggest a generic phase diagram of such type-IV superconductor, which is singlet one at H=0 and characterized by mixed singlet-triplet order parameter with broken time-revers…
It has been recognized that the condensation of spin-triplet Cooper pairs requires not only the broken gauge symmetry but also the spin ordering as well. One consequence of this is the possibility of the Cooper-pair spin current analogous to the magnon spin current in magnetic insulators, the analogy also extending to the existence of the Gilbert damping of the collective spin-triplet dynamics. The recently fabricated heterostructure of the thin film of the itinerant ferromagnet SrRuO3 on the bulk Sr2RuO4, the best-known candidate material for the spin-triplet superconductor, offers a promisin…
We show how in principle a coherent coupling between two superconductors of opposite parity can be realized in a three-layer oxide heterostructure. Due to strong intraionic spin-orbit coupling in the middle layer, singlet Cooper pairs are converted into triplet ones and vice versa. This results in a large enhancement of the triplet superconductivity, persisting well above the native triplet critical temperature.
Motivated by the recent discovery of noncentrosymmetric superconductors, such as $CePt_{3}Si$, $CeRhSi_{3}$ and $CeIrSi_{3}$, we investigate theoretically the impurity resonance states with coexisting $s$- and p-wave pairing symmetries. Due to the nodal structure of the gap function, we find single nonmagnetic impurity-induced resonances appearing in the local density of state (LDOS). In particular, we analyze the evolution of the local density of states for coexisting isotropic s-wave and p-wave superconducting states and compare with that of anisotropic s-wave and p-wave symmetries of the su…
Interfacing superconductors with strongly spin-polarized magnetic materials opens the possibility to discover new spintronic devices in which spin-triplet Cooper pairs play a key role. Motivated by the recent derivation of spin-polarized quasiclassical boundary conditions capable of describing such a scenario in the diffusive limit, we consider the emergent physics in hybrid structures comprised of a conventional s-wave superconductor (e.g. Nb, Al) and either strongly spin-polarized ferromagnetic insulators (e.g. EuO, GdN) or halfmetallic ferromagnets (e.g. CrO2, LCMO). In contrast to most pre…
AuBe is a chiral, non-centrosymmetric superconductor with transition temperature $T_C$ $\simeq$ 3.25 K. The broken inversion symmetry in its crystal structure makes AuBe a possible candidate to host a mixed singlet-triplet pairing symmetry in its superconducting order parameter ($Δ$). This possibility was investigated by transport, thermodynamic, and muon-spin rotation/relaxation experiments in AuBe. However, this issue was not addressed using direct spectroscopic probes so far. In addition, certain ambiguities exist in the description of superconductivity in AuBe based on $μ$SR experiments re…
We report the synthesis and physical properties of the single crystals of TaC, which are proposed to hold topological band structure as a topological superconductor (TSC) candidate. Magnetization, resistivity and specific heat measurements are performed and indicate that TaC is bulk superconductor with critical temperature of 10.3 K. TaC is a strongly coupled type-II superconductor and the superconducting state can be well described by s-wave Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) theory with a single gap. The upper critical field (Hc2) of TaC shows linear temperature dependence, which is quite diffe…
