We formalize the derivation of a generalized coarse-graining $n$-resolved master equation by introducing a virtual detector counting the number of transferred charges in single-electron transport. Our approach enables the convenient inclusion of coherences and Lamb shift in counting statistics. As a Markovian example with Lindblad-type density matrices, we consider the Born-Markov-Secular (BMS) approximation which is a special case of the non-Markovian dynamical coarse graining (DCG) approach. For illustration we consider transport through two interacting levels that are either serially or parallelly coupled to two leads held at different chemical potentials. It is shown that the coherences can strongly influence the (frequency-dependent) transport cumulants: In the serial case the neglect of coherences would lead to unphysical currents through disconnected conductors. Interference effects in the parallel setup can cause strong current suppression with giant Fano factors and telegraph-like distribution functions of transferred electrons, which is not found without coherences. We demonstrate that with finite coarse graining times coherences are automatically included and, consequently, the shortcomings of the BMS approximation are resolved.
Full counting statistics of electron transport is a powerful diagnostic tool for probing the nature of quantum transport beyond what is obtainable from the average current or conductance measurement alone. In particular, the non-Markovian dynamics of quantum dot molecule plays an important role in the nonequilibrium electron tunneling processes. It is thus necessary to understand the non-Markovian full counting statistics in a quantum dot molecule. Here we study the non-Markovian full counting statistics in two typical quantum dot molecules, namely, serially coupled and side-coupled double qua…
We study electronic transport through a quantum dot in the Fermi-edge singularity regime, placing emphasis on its non-Markovian attributes. These are quantified by the behavior of current noise as well as trace-distance-based measure of non-Markovianity and found to be pronounced at low temperatures where the interplay of many-electron correlations and quantum coherence present in the system leads to significant quantum memory effects and non-Markovian dynamics.
In this paper, we develop a non-perturbation theory for describing decoherence dynamics of electron charges in a double quantum dot gated by electrodes. We extend the Feynman-Vernon influence functional theory to fermionic environments and derive an exact master equation for the reduced density matrix of electrons in the double dot for a general spectral density at arbitrary temperature and bias. We then investigate the decoherence dynamics of the double dot charge qubit with back-action of the reservoirs being fully taken into account. Time-dependent fluctuations and leakage effects induced f…
We consider a transport setup containing a double-dot connected by a continuum. Via an exact solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, we demonstrate a highly non-Markovian quantum-coherence-mediated transport through this dot-continuum-dot (DCD) system, which is in contrast with the common premise since in typical case a quantum particle does not reenter the system of interest once it irreversibly decayed into a continuum (such as the spontaneous emission of a photon). We also find that this DCD system supports an unusual steady state with unequal source and drain currents, owing t…
We study the fundamental limit on single-photon indistinguishability imposed by decoherence due to phonon interactions in semiconductor quantum dot-cavity QED systems. Employing an exact diagonalization approach we find large differences compared to standard methods. An important finding is that short-time non-Markovian effects limit the maximal attainable indistinguishability. The results are explained using a polariton picture that yields valuable insight into the phonon-induced dephasing dynamics.
We investigate the influence of electron-phonon interactions on the dynamical properties of a quantum-dot-cavity QED system. We show that non-Markovian effects in the phonon reservoir lead to strong changes in the dynamics, arising from photon-assisted dephasing processes, not present in Markovian treatments. A pronounced consequence is the emergence of a phonon induced spectral asymmetry when detuning the cavity from the quantum-dot resonance. The asymmetry can only be explained when considering the polaritonic quasi-particle nature of the quantum-dot-cavity system. Furthermore, a temperature…
We have investigated the dynamics of bound particles in multilevel current-carrying quantum dots. We look specifically in the regime of resonant tunnelling transport, where several channels are available for transport. Through a non-Markovian formalism under the Born approximation, we investigate the real-time evolution of the confined particles including transport-induced decoherence and relaxation. In the case of a coherent superposition between states with different particle number, we find that a Fock-space coherence may be preserved even in the presence of tunneling into and out of the do…
Based on our recently developed quantum transport theory in term of an exact master equation, the corresponding particle-number resolved ($n$-resolved) master equation and the related shot noise spectrum formalism covering the full frequency range are constructed. We demonstrate that the noise spectra of transport current through single quantum dot and double quantum dots show characteristic steps and/or peak-dips in different tunneling frequency regimes through tuning the applied bias voltage and/or gate voltage at low temperatures. The peak-dips crossing the tunneling resonant frequencies is…
We present a derivation of Markovian master equation for the out of equilibrium quantum dot connected to two superconducting reservoirs, which are described by the Bogoliubov-de Gennes Hamiltonians and have the chemical potentials, the temperatures, and the complex order parameters as the relevant quantities. We consider a specific example in which the quantum dot is represented by the Anderson impurity model and study the transport properties, proximity effect and Andreev bound states in equilibrium and far from equilibrium setups.
In this article, we report the recent progress on decoherence dynamics of electrons in quantum dot quantum computing systems using the exact master equation we derived recently based on the Feynman-Vernon influence functional approach. The exact master equation is valid for general nanostructure systems coupled to multi-reservoirs with arbitrary spectral densities, temperatures and biases. We take the double quantum dot charge qubit system as a specific example, and discuss in details the decoherence dynamics of the charge qubit under coherence controls. The decoherence dynamics risen from the…
We measure the detuning-dependent dynamics of a quasi-resonantly excited single quantum dot coupled to a micropillar cavity. The system is modeled with the dissipative Jaynes-Cummings model where all experimental parameters are determined by explicit measurements. We observe non-Markovian dynamics when the quantum dot is tuned into resonance with the cavity leading to a non-exponential decay in time. Excellent agreement between experiment and theory is observed with no free parameters providing the first quantitative description of an all-solid-state cavity QED system based on quantum dot emit…
The superconducting reservoir effect on the current carrying transport of a double quantum dot in Markovian regime is investigated. For this purpose, a quantum master equation (QME) at finite temperature is derived for the many-body density matrix of an open quantum system. The dynamics and the steady-state properties of the double quantum dot system for arbitrary bias are studied. We will show that how the populations and coherencies of the system states are affected by superconducting leads. The energy parameter of system contains essentially four contributions due to dots system-electrodes …
We present a theory of full counting statistics for electron transport through interacting electron systems with non-Markovian dynamics. We illustrate our approach for transport through a single-level quantum dot and a metallic single-electron transistor to second order in the tunnel-coupling strength, and discuss under which circumstances non-Markovian effects appear in the transport properties.
The dynamics of charge qubit in double quantum dot coupled to phonons is investigated theoretically. The static bias is considered. By means of the perturbation approach based on unitary transformations, the dynamical tunneling current is obtained explicitly. The biased system displays broken symmetry and a significantly larger coherence-incoherence transition critical point $α_{c}$. We also analyzed the decoherence induced by piezoelectric coupling phonons in detail. The results show that reducing the coupling between system and bath make coherence frequency increase and coherence time prolon…
We investigate the dynamics of a double quantum dot charge qubit which is coupled to piezoelectric acoustic phonons, appropriate for GaAs heterostructures. At low temperatures, the phonon bath induces a non-Markovian dynamical behavior of the oscillations between the two charge states of the double quantum dot. Upon applying the numerically exact quasiadiabatic propagator path-integral scheme, the reduced density matrix of the charge qubit is calculated, thereby avoiding the Born-Markov approximation. This allows a systematic study of the dependence of the Q-factor on the lattice temperature, …
The radiative decay of quantum dot (QD) excitons into surface plasmons in a cylindrical nanowire is investigated theoretically. Maxwell's equations with appropriate boundary conditions are solved numerically to obtain the dispersion relations of surface plasmons. The radiative decay rate of QD excitons is found to be greatly enhanced at certain values of the exciton bandgap. Analogous to the decay of a two-level atom in the photonic crystal, we first point out that such an enhanced phenomenon allows one to examine the non-Markovian dynamics of the QD exciton. Besides, due to the one dimensiona…
We consider the theoretical description of real-time counting of electrons tunneling through a Coulomb-blockade quantum dot using a detector with finite bandwidth. By tracing out the quantum dot we find that the dynamics of the detector effectively is non-Markovian. We calculate the cumulant generating function corresponding to the resulting non-Markovian rate equation and find that the measured current cumulants behave significantly differently compared to those of a Markovian transport process. Our findings provide a novel interpretation of noise suppression found in a number of systems.
Manifestations of quantum coherence in the electronic conductance through nearly closed quantum dots in the Coulomb blockade regime are addressed. We show that quantum coherent tunneling processes explain some puzzling statistical features of the conductance peak-heights observed in recent experiments at low temperatures. We employ the constant interaction model and the random matrix theory to model the quantum dot electronic interactions and its single-particle statistical fluctuations, taking full account of the finite decay width of the quantum dot levels.
We present a detailed theoretical study of non-Markovian dynamics in the fluorescence spectrum of a driven semiconductor quantum dot (QD), embedded in a cavity and coupled to a three-dimensional (3D) acoustic phonon reservoir. In particular, we investigate the effect of pure dephasing on one of the side-peaks of the Mollow-triplet spectrum, expressed in terms of the off-diagonal element of the reduced system operator. The QD is modeled as a two-level system with an excited state representing a single exciton, and ground state represents the absence of an exciton. Coupling to the radiative mode…
We construct a number($n$)-resolved master equation (ME) approach under self-consistent Born approximation (SCBA) for noise spectrum calculation. The formulation is essentially non-Markovian and incorporates properly the interlay of the multi-tunneling processes and many-body correlations. We apply this approach to the challenging nonequilibrium Kondo system and predict a profound nonequilibrium Kondo signature in the shot noise spectrum. The proposed $n$-SCBA-ME scheme goes completely beyond the scope of the Born-Markovian master equation approach, in the sense of being applicable to the shot…
We have performed a systematic calculation for the non-Markovian dynamics of a localized electron spin interacting with an environment of nuclear spins via the Fermi contact hyperfine interaction. This work applies to an electron in the s -type orbital ground state of a quantum dot or bound to a donor impurity, and is valid for arbitrary polarization p of the nuclear spin system, and arbitrary nuclear spin I in high magnetic fields. In the limit of p=1 and I=1/2, the Born approximation of our perturbative theory recovers the exact electron spin dynamics. We have found the form of the generaliz…
Using a real-time path integral approach we develop an algorithm to calculate multi-time correlation functions of open few-level quantum systems that is applicable to highly nonequilibrium dynamics. The calculational scheme fully keeps the non-Markovian memory introduced by the pure-dephasing type coupling to a continuum of oscillators. Furthermore, we discuss how to deal consistently with the simultaneous presence of non-Markovian and Markovian system reservoir interactions. We apply the method to a crucial test case, namely the evaluation of emission spectra of a laser-driven two-level quant…
We provide a versatile analytical framework for calculating the dynamics of a spin system in contact with a fermionic bath beyond the Markov approximation. The approach is based on a second order expansion of the Nakajima-Zwanzig master equation but systematically includes all quantum coherent memory effects leading to non-Markovian dynamics. Our results describe, for the free induction decay, the full time range from the non-Markovian dynamics at short times, to the well-known exponential thermal decay at long times. We provide full analytic results for the entire time range using a bath of i…
We derive an extension to the quantum regression theorem which facilitates the calculation of two-time correlation functions and emission spectra for systems undergoing non-Markovian evolution. The derivation exploits projection operator techniques, with which we obtain explicit equations of motion for the correlation functions, making only a second order expansion in the system--environment coupling strength, and invoking the Born approximation at a fixed initial time. The results are used to investigate a driven semiconductor quantum dot coupled to an acoustic phonon bath, where we find the …
We present a theory of finite-frequency noise in non-equilibrium conductors. It is shown that Non-Markovian correlations are essential to describe the physics of quantum noise. In particular, we show the importance of a correct treatment of the initial system-bath correlations, and how these can be calculated using the formalism of quantum master equations. Our method is particularly important in interacting systems, and when the measured frequencies are larger that the temperature and applied voltage. In this regime, quantum-noise steps are expected in the power spectrum due to vacuum fluctua…
We investigate the quantum coherent dynamics of an externally driven effective two-level system subjected to a slow Ohmic environment characteristic of biomolecular protein-solvent reservoirs in photosynthetic light harvesting complexes. By means of the numerically exact quasi adiabatic propagator path integral (QUAPI) method we are able to include non-Markovian features of the environment and show the dependence of the quantum coherence on the characteristic bath cut-off frequency omega_c as well as on the driving frequency omega_l and the field amplitude A. Our calculations extend from the w…
We investigate phase coherent electronic transport in an open quantum system, which consists of quantum dots side-coupled to a nanowire. It is demonstrated that coherent switching can be characterized by adjusting the electronic energy. A comparative analysis of quantum coherence effects in side-coupled quantum-dot systems is presented. Our results demonstrate the relevance of electronic nanodevices based on coherent switching by appropriately detuning the side-coupled quantum dots that are located at variable distance along a wire.
Recent experimental progress has made it possible to detect in real-time single electrons tunneling through Coulomb blockade nanostructures, thereby allowing for precise measurements of the statistical distribution of the number of transferred charges, the so-called full counting statistics. These experimental advances call for a solid theoretical platform for equally accurate calculations of distribution functions and their cumulants. Here we develop a general framework for calculating zero-frequency current cumulants of arbitrary orders for transport through nanostructures with strong Coulom…
We investigate coherent time-evolution of charge states (pseudo-spin qubit) in a semiconductor double quantum dot. This fully-tunable qubit is manipulated with a high-speed voltage pulse that controls the energy and decoherence of the system. Coherent oscillations of the qubit are observed for several combinations of many-body ground and excited states of the quantum dots. Possible decoherence mechanisms in the present device are also discussed.
We study theoretically the interaction between the charge dynamics of a few-electron double quantum dot and a capacitively-coupled AFM cantilever, a setup realized in several recent experiments. We demonstrate that the dot-induced frequency shift and damping of the cantilever can be used as a sensitive probe of coherent inter-dot tunnelling, and that these effects can be used to quantitatively extract both the magnitude of the coherent interdot tunneling and (in some cases) the value of the double-dot T_1 time. We also show how the adiabatic modulation of the double-dot eigenstates by the cant…
We derive a Markovian master equation for the single-electron density matrix, applicable to quantum cascade lasers (QCLs). The equation conserves the positivity of the density matrix, includes off-diagonal elements (coherences) as well as in-plane dynamics, and accounts for electron scattering with phonons and impurities. We use the model to simulate a terahertz-frequency QCL, and compare the results with both experiment and simulation via nonequilibrium Green's functions (NEGF). We obtain very good agreement with both experiment and NEGF when the QCL is biased for optimal lasing. For the cons…
We study electron pumping in the strong coupling and non-Markovian regime. Our model is a single quantum dot with periodically modulated energy and tunnelling amplitudes. We identify four parameters to control the direction of the current: the driving phase, the coupling strength, the driving frequency and the location of the maxima of the spectral density. In the high-frequency regime, we use a Markovian embedding strategy to map our model to three serial quantum dots weakly coupled to the reservoirs allowing us to use a Floquet master equation. We observe a rectification effect of the pumped…
Thermoelectric power due to coherent electron transmission through a quantum dot is theoretically studied. In addition to the known features related to resonant peaks, we show that a novel significant structure appears between the peaks. This structure arises from the so-called transmission zero, which is characteristic of coherent transmission through several quantum levels. Because of sensitivity to phase-breaking effect in quantum dots, this novel structure indicates degree of coherency in the electron transmission.
We formulate a quantum theory of electron waiting time distributions for charge transport in nano-structures described by non-Markovian generalized master equations. We illustrate our method by calculating the waiting time distribution of electron transport through a dissipative double quantum dot, where memory effects are present due to a strongly coupled heat bath. We consider the influence of non-Markovian dephasing on the distribution of electron waiting times and discuss how spectral properties of the heat bath may be detected through measurements of the electron waiting time.
We demonstrate theoretically that it is possible to use Rabi oscillations to coherently control the electron tunneling in an asymmetric double quantum dot system, a quantum dot molecule. By applying an optical pump pulse we can excite an electron in one of the dots, which can in turn tunnel to the second dot, as controlled by an external voltage. Varying the intensity of the pulse one can suppress or enhance the tunneling between the dots for given level resonance conditions. This approach allows substantial flexibility in the control of the quantum mechanical state of the system.
We study the coherent transport in multi-terminal mesoscopic Aharonov-Bohm ring with a quantum dot embedded in an arm. Employing the Friedel sum rule for the effective single-particle levels in the quantum dot, we explain some anomalous features which have been observed in the experiment. We attribute these anomalies to the result of nontrivial quantum interference of the quantum dot with the attached ring. Further, we propose a new feature of conductance oscillations which can be a test for the validity of our model.
Narrow line-widths and the possibility of enhanced spontaneous emission via coupling to microcavities make semiconductor quantum dots ideal for harnessing coherent quantum phenomena at the single photon level. So far, however, all approaches have relied on incoherent pumping, which limits the desirable properties of the emission. In contrast, coherent excitation was recognized to be necessary for providing both improved photon indistinguishability and high efficiency, and offers the quantum control capabilities required for basic qubit manipulations. Here we achieve, for the first time, resona…
The ability to manipulate coherently individual quantum objects organized in arrays is a prerequisite to any scalable quantum information platform. For electron spin qubits, it requires the fine tuning of large arrays of tunnel-coupled quantum dots. The cumulated efforts in linear dot arrays have permitted the recent realization of quantum simulators and multi-electron spin coherent manipulation. However, the two-dimensional scaling of such implementations remains undemonstrated while being compulsory to resolve complex quantum matter problems or process quantum information. Here, we demonstra…
We measure many-body interactions in isolated quantum dot states using double-quantum multidimensional coherent spectroscopy. Few states are probed in a diffraction limited spot, which is enabled by a novel collinear scheme in which radiated four-wave-mixing signals are measured with phase resolution. Many-body interactions are enhanced by an additional prepulse tuned to the delocalized quasi-continuum states. We propose this effect as a method for controlling coupling between quantum states.
We report on the coherent dynamics of the spin of an individual magnetic atom coupled to carriers in a semiconductor quantum dot which has been investigated by resonant photoluminescence of the positively charged exciton (X+). We demonstrate that a positively charged CdTe/ZnTe quantum dot doped with a single Mn atom forms an ensemble of optical Lambda systems which can be addressed independently. We show that the spin dynamics of the X+Mn complex is dominated by the electron-Mn exchange interaction and report on the coherent dynamics of the electron-Mn spin system that is directly observed in …
We investigate the time-dependent, coherent, and dissipative dynamics of bound particles in single multilevel quantum dots in the presence of sequential tunnelling transport. We focus on the nonequilibrium regime where several channels are available for transport. Through a fully microscopic and non-Markovian density matrix formalism we investigate transport-induced decoherence and relaxation of the system. We validate our methodology by also investigating the Markov limit on our model. We confirm that not only does this limit neglect the coherent oscillations between system states as expected…
We have investigated the transport characteristics of an electron pump consisting of an asymmetric double quantum dot at zero bias voltage which is subject to electromagnetic radiation. Depending on the energies of the intermediate states in the pumping cycle, electrons can be transferred through the dots incoherently via sequential tunneling or coherently via co-tunneling. The dc transport through the system can be controlled by the frequency of the applied radiation. We concentrate on resonant tunneling peaks in the pumping current that are interesting to observe experimentally.
Destructive interference of single-electron tunneling between three quantum dots can trap an electron in a coherent superposition of charge on two of the dots. Coupling to external charges causes decoherence of this superposition, and in the presence of a large bias voltage each decoherence event transfers a certain number of electrons through the device. We calculate the counting statistics of the transferred charges, finding a crossover from sub-Poissonian to super-Poissonian statistics with increasing ratio of tunnel and decoherence rates.
The coherent time evolution of electrons in double quantum dots induced by fast bias-voltage switches is studied theoretically. As it was shown experimentally, such driven double quantum dots are potential devices for controlled manipulation of charge qubits. By numerically solving a quantum master equation we obtain the energy- and time-resolved electron transfer through the device which resembles the measured data. The observed oscillations are found to depend on the level offset of the two dots during the manipulation and, most surprisingly, also the on initialization stage. By means of an …
We propose steady-state electron transport based on coherent transfer by adiabatic passage (CTAP) in a linearly arranged triple quantum dot with leads attached to the outer dots. Its main feature is repeated steering of single electrons from the first dot to the last dot without relevant occupation of the middle dot. The coupling to leads enables a steady-state current, whose shot noise is significantly suppressed provided that the CTAP protocol performs properly. This represents an indication for the direct transfer between spatially separated dots and, thus, may resolve the problem of findin…
A few electron double electrostatic lateral quantum dot can be transformed into a few electron triple quantum dot by applying a different combination of gate voltages. Quadruple points have been achieved at which all three dots are simultaneously on resonance. At these special points in the stability diagram four occupation configurations are possible. Both charge detection and transport experiments have been performed on this device. In this short paper we present data and confirm that transport is coherent by observing a Pi phase shift in magneto-conductance oscillations as one passes throug…
Coherent population trapping (CPT) refers to the steady-state trapping of population in a coherent superposition of two ground states which are coupled by coherent optical fields to an intermediate state in a three-level atomic system. Recently, CPT has been observed in an ensemble of donor bound spins in GaAs and in single nitrogen vacancy centers in diamond by using a fluorescence technique. Here we report the demonstration of CPT of an electron spin in a single quantum dot (QD) charged with one electron.
A new analytical approach, beyond rotating wave approximation, based on unitary transformations and the non-Markovian master equation for the density operator, is applied to treat the biased spin boson model with a Lorentzian structured bath for arbitrary detunings at zero temperature. Compared to zero bias, we find that the dynamics demonstrates two more damping oscillation frequencies and one additional relaxation frequency for non-zero bias, where one of the damping oscillation frequencies is a new effect. Analytical expressions for the non-Markovian dynamics and the corresponding spectrum,…
We show that the coherence of charge transfer through a weakly coupled double-dot dimer can be determined by analyzing the statistics of the conductance pattern, and does not require large phase coherence length in the host material. We present an experimental study of the charge transport through a small Si nanostructure, which contains two quantum dots. The transport through the dimer is shown to be coherent. At the same time, one of the dots is strongly coupled to the leads, and the overall transport is dominated by inelastic co-tunneling processes.
We examine the shot noise spectrum properties of coherent resonant tunneling in coupled quantum dots in both series and parallel arrangements by means of quantum rate equations and MacDonald's formula. Our results show that, for a series-CQD with a relatively high dot-dot hopping $Ω$, $Ω/Γ\gtrsim 1$ ($Γ$ denotes the dot-lead tunnel-coupling strength), the noise spectrum exhibits a dip at the Rabi frequency, $2Ω$, in the case of noninteracting electrons, but the dip is supplanted by a peak in the case of strong Coulomb repulsion; furthermore, it becomes a dip again for a completely symmetric pa…
We develop a non-Markovian full counting statistics formalism taking into account both the sequential tunneling and cotunneling based on the exact particle number resolved time-convolutionless master equation and the Rayleigh-Schrödinger perturbation theory. Then, we study the influences of the quantum coherence and the cotunneling assisted sequential tunneling processes on the non-Markovian full counting statistics of electron tunneling through an open quantum system, which consists of a side-coupled double-quantum-dot molecule weakly coupled to two electron reservoirs. We demonstrate that in…
We present an inverted GaAs 2D electron gas with self-assembled InAs quantum dots in close proximity, with the goal of combining quantum transport with quantum optics experiments. We have grown and characterized several wafers -- using transport, AFM and optics -- finding narrow-linewidth optical dots and high-mobility, single subband 2D gases. Despite being buried 500 nm below the surface, the dots are clearly visible on AFM scans, allowing precise localization and paving the way towards a hybrid quantum system integrating optical dots with surface gate-defined nanostructures in the 2D gas.
The coherent manipulation of quantum states is one of the main tasks required in quantum computation. In this paper we demonstrate that it is possible to control coherently the electronic position of a particle in a quantum-dot array. By tuning an external ac electric field we can selectively suppress the tunneling between dots, trapping the particle in a determined region of the array. The problem is treated non-perturbatively by a time-dependent Hamiltonian in the effective mass approximation and using Floquet theory. We find that the quasienergy spectrum exhibits crossings at certain field …
We propose an experiment to observe coherent oscillations in a single quantum dot with the oscillations driven by spin-orbit interaction. This is achieved without spin-polarised leads, and relies on changing the strength of the spin-orbit coupling via an applied gate pulse. We derive an effective model of this system which is formally equivalent to the Jaynes-Cummings model of quantum optics. For parameters relevant to a InGaAs dot, we calculate a Rabi frequency of 2 GHz.
In this paper we introduce a simple phenomenological model of the conduction between a couple of serial or parallel quantum dots. This model is extended to arbitrary of number and to a square array of quantum dots. The local potential is computed taking into account the net charge at the quantum dot. Master equation are presented for total current and charge number N taking considering both the local potential and the local current. Interesting results are reported, namely the Negative Differential Resistance for serial quantum dots as well as resonant conductance. A paradoxical asymmetric cur…
A fundamental question in quantum transport is how quantum coherence influences charge transfer through nanostructures. We address this issue for linear triple quantum dots by comparison of a Lindblad density matrix description with a Pauli rate equation approach and analyze the corresponding zero-frequency counting statistics for coherent and sequential charge tunneling, respectively. The impact of decaying coherences of the density matrix due to dephasing is also studied. Our findings reveal that the sensitivity to coherence shown by shot noise and skewness, in particular in the limit of lar…
We have measured the low-temperature transport properties of a T-shaped quantum dot. Replicated oscillations superimposed on one-dimensional conductance steps are observed. These structures are consistent with electron phase-coherent length resonance effects in the ballistic regime. Using a simple model, we suggest that both one-dimensional and two-dimensional electron-electron scattering gives rise to electron phase-breaking in our system.
We propose a solid-state implementation of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in two coupled semiconductor quantum dots. Proper combination of two pulsed laser fields allows the coherent carrier transfer between the two nanostructures without suffering significant losses due to environment coupling. By use of a general solution scheme for the carrier states in the double-dot structure, we identify the pertinent dot and laser parameters.
Time-resolved Faraday rotation has recently demonstrated coherent transfer of electron spin between quantum dots coupled by conjugated molecules. Using a transfer Hamiltonian ansatz for the coupled quantum dots, we calculate the Faraday rotation signal as a function of the probe frequency in a pump-probe setup using neutral quantum dots. Additionally, we study the signal of one spin-polarized excess electron in the coupled dots. We show that, in both cases, the Faraday rotation angle is determined by the spin transfer probabilities and the Heisenberg spin exchange energy. By comparison of our …
