In the framework of the simplest little Higgs model (SLHM), we study the production of a pair of neutral CP-even Higgs bosons at the LHC. First, we examine the production rate and find that it can be significantly larger than the SM prediction. Then we investigate the decays of the Higgs-pair and find that for a low Higgs mass their dominant decay mode is hh->ηηηη(ηis a CP-odd scalar) while hh->b\bar{b}ηηand hh->ηηWW may also have sizable ratios. Finally, we comparatively study the rates of pp-> hh -> b\bar{b}τ^+ τ^-, pp->hh->b\bar{b}γγ, and pp->hh->WWWW in the SLHM and the littlest Higgs models (LHT). We find that for a light Higgs, compared with the SM predictions, all the three rates can be sizably enhanced in the LHT but severely suppressed in the SLHM; while for an intermediately heavy Higgs, both the LHT and SLHM can enhance sizably the SM predictions.
We investigate a variation of the Simplest Little Higgs (SLH) model that is invariant under a discrete $\CZ_2$ symmetry. Our motivation for imposing this symmetry is the two dark matter candidates it implies, a scalar $η$ and a heavy neutrino. We examine the viability of these two candidates using the standard relic abundance calculation. Direct detection prospects are also discussed.
Little Higgs models may provide a viable alternative to supersymmetry as an extension of the Standard Model. After the introduction of a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, dubbed T-parity into Little Higgs models they also contain a promising dark matter candidate. We investigate a heavy neutrino as a dark matter candidate in the Simplest Little Higgs with T-parity (SLHT) model. First we calculate relic density constraints on the parameter space of the model and then discuss collider signatures for the SLHT dark matter.
We show that the SU(3) little Higgs model has a region of parameter space in which electroweak symmetry breaking is natural and in which corrections to precision electroweak observables are sufficiently small. The model is anomaly free, generates a Higgs mass near 150 GeV, and predicts new gauge bosons and fermions at 1 TeV.
The little Higgs scenario may provide an interesting framework to accommodate TeV scale leptogenesis because a TeV Majorana mass of the right-handed neutrino that we employ for the latter may find a natural place near the ultraviolet cutoff of the former. In this work we study how a light neutrino spectrum, generated radiatively, and TeV scale leptogenesis can be embedded in the simplest little Higgs framework. Alternatively, we highlight how the neutrino Yukawa textures of the latter are constrained.
In SU(3) simplest little Higgs model, a characteristic particle is the light pseudoscalar boson eta, it leads interesting signals in the LHC/ILC and is studied in literature with different parameterizations. In this work, we show that these different descriptions for eta particle are equivalent up to some SU(3) rotations as long as we suitably redefine the pseudo Goldstone boson fields. We evaluate the necessary SU(3) rotations and built up explicit expressions for redefined fields.
The colored SU(2)-singlet heavy T-quark is one of the most crucial ingredients in little Higgs models, which is introduced to cancel the largest contribution of the SM top quark to the Higgs boson mass at one-loop level. In two representative little Higgs models, the littlest Higgs model and the SU(3) simplest Higgs model, we comprehensively study the single heavy T-quark production at Large Hadron Collider (LHC). After presenting the possibility of relatively light (~500 GeV) T-quark in the simplest little Higgs model, we consider all the relevant processes, the 2->2 process of qb->q'T, the 2…
We proposed how spontaneous CP-violation can be generated in the simplest little Higgs model in this talk. Comparing with the original paper, both formalism and phenomenology are updated. The model is still alive facing the collider and electric dipole moment (EDM) measurements. Strictest constraint comes from LHC $Z'$ direct search, which leads to $f\gtrsim8~\textrm{TeV}$. Higgs measurements also set strict constraint on the scalar mixing angle, if the Higgs rare decay channel is open. EDM measurements still set weak constraints for this model, even after the recent ACME updated measurement o…
The simplest little Higgs model based on a SU(3) global symmetry contains a $SU(3)_{weak}$ triplet and a singlet per a generation in the lepton sector. A neutral component of the triplet and the singlet turn into a neutral vector-like $SU(2)_L$ singlet after electroweak symmetry breaking while the other neutral component of the triplet is the SM neutrino. At tree level, Yukawa couplings of the lepton sector not only allow the neutral vector-like lepton to couple to the SM neutrino, but also give them a Dirac mass. Majorana mass terms for the SM neutrinos and their partners arise at one loops, …
We examine the simplest realization of the linear seesaw mechanism within the Standard Model gauge structure. Besides the standard scalar doublet, there are two lepton-number-carrying scalars, a nearly inert SU2 doublet and a singlet. Neutrino masses result from the spontaneous violation of lepton number, implying the existence of a Nambu-Goldstone boson. Such "majoron" would be copiously produced in stars, leading to stringent astrophysical constraints. We study the profile of the Higgs bosons in this model, including their effective couplings to the vector bosons and their invisible decay br…
The simplest little Higgs model predicts a light pseudoscalar boson $η$ and opens up some new decay modes for $Z$-boson, such as $Z \to \bar{f} f η$, $Z\to ηηη$, $Z\to ηγ$ and $Z\to ηgg$. We examine these decay modes in the parameter space allowed by current experiments, and find that the branching ratios can reach $10^{-7}$ for $Z\to \bar{b}bη$, $10^{-8}$ for $Z\to \barττη$, and $10^{-8}$ for $Z\to ηγ$, which should be accessible at the GigaZ option of the ILC. However, the branching ratios can reach $10^{-12}$ for $Z\to ηηη$, and $10^{-11}$ for $Z\to ηgg$, which are hardly accessible at the …
In the framework of the simplest little Higgs model (SLHM), we perform a comprehensive study for the pair productions of the pseudoscalar boson η and SM-like Higgs boson h at LHC, namely gg(b\bar{b})-> ηη, gg(q\bar{q})-> ηh and gg(b\bar{b})-> hh. These production processes provide a way to probe the couplings between Higgs bosons. We find that the cross section of gg-> ηη always dominates over that of b\bar{b}-> ηη. When the Higgs boson h which mediates these two processes is on-shell, their cross sections can reach several thousand $fb$ and several hundred $fb$, respectively. When the interme…
The issue of deriving $ZHη$ vertex in the simplest Little Higgs (SLH) model is revisited. Special attention is paid to the treatment of non-canonically-normalized scalar kinetic matrix and vector-scalar two-point transitions. We elucidate a general procedure to diagonalize a general vector-scalar system in gauge theories and apply it to the case of SLH. The resultant $ZHη$ vertex is found to be different from those which have already existed in the literature for a long time. We also present an understanding of this issue from an effective field theory viewpoint.
A discrete symmetry between quarks and (generalized) leptons can exist in nature, and its spontaneous symmetry breaking scale can be as low as a few TeV. Such a discrete symmetry also has interesting implications for how electroweak symmetry is spontaneously broken, because the simplest version of the theory requires two electroweak Higgs doublets rather than one in order to provide acceptable values for quark and lepton masses. The effective theory generated at electroweak-scale energies is thus a particular type of two-Higgs-doublet model. We point out in this paper that the broken discrete …
The little Higgs idea is a new way to solve the little hierarchy problem by protecting the Higgs mass from quadratically divergent one-loop corrections. In this talk I describe the phenomenology of one particular realization of the little Higgs idea: the "Littlest Higgs" model.
From the total cross section for the reaction $e^+e^-\to τ^+τ^-γ$ at the $Z_1$ pole and in the framework of a simplest little Higgs model (SLHM), we get a limit on the characteristic energy scale of the model $f$, $f \geq 5.4$ $TeV$, which in turn induces bounds on the electromagnetic and weak dipole moments of the tau-lepton. Our bounds on the electromagnetic moments are consistent with the bounds obtained by the L3 and OPAL collaborations for the reaction $e^+e^-\to τ^+τ^-γ$. We also obtained bounds on the tau weak dipole moments which are consistent with the bounds obtained recently by the …
We consider the charged scalar boson phenomenology in the simplest effective low-energy R-parity breaking model characterized by a bilinear violation of R-parity in the superpotential. This induces a mixing between staus and the charged Higgs boson. We show that the charged Higgs boson mass can be lower than expected in the MSSM, even before including radiative corrections. We also study the charged scalar boson decay branching ratios and show that the R-parity violating decay rates can be comparable or even bigger than the R-parity conserving ones. Moreover, if the stau is the LSP it will hav…
Little Higgs theory naturally predicts a light Higgs boson whose most important discovery channel at the LHC is the di-photon signal $pp\to h\to γγ$. In this work we perform a comparative study for this signal in some typical little Higgs models, namely the littlest Higgs model (LH), two littlest Higgs models with T-parity (named LHT-I and LHT-II) and the simplest little Higgs modes (SLH). We find that compared with the Standard Model prediction, the di-photon signal rate is always suppressed and the suppression extent can be quite different for different models. The suppression is mild ($\lsi…
The flavor sector of Little Higgs models based on product groups, notably the Littlest Higgs with T parity (LHT), has been extensively studied and some amount of fine tuning was found to be required to meet the experimental constraints. However, no such attention has been paid to other classes of models. Here we analyze the phenomenology of flavor mixing in the lepton sector of a simple group model, the Simplest Little Higgs (SLH). We obtain the Feynman rules of the SLH in the 't Hooft-Feynman gauge up to the necessary order and calculate the leading contributions to the rare processes mu -> e…
We give a brief review of recent developments in non-supersymmetric models for electroweak symmetry breaking, including little Higgs, composite Higgs and Higgsless theories. The new ideas such as extra dimensions, AdS/CFT correspondence, dimension-deconstruction, and collective symmetry breaking provide us new tools to construct new models. They also allow some old ideas to be revived and implemented in these new models.
We derive the leptonic neutral current in the simplest little Higgs model and compute the contribution of the model to the decay width $Z \to e^+e^-$. Using the precision electroweak data we obtain a strong lower bound $f\geq 5.6$ TeV at 95% C.L. on the characteristic energy scale of the model. It results in a lower bound for the new gauge bosons $W^{\prime\pm}$ and $Z^{\prime}$ as being $M_{W^{\prime\pm}}\geq 2.6$ TeV and $M_{Z^{\prime}}\geq 3.1$ TeV, respectively. We also present the allowed values of the $k=f_1/f_2$ which is the parameter relating the two vacuum expectation values of the sc…
In this note we present a review of the little Higgs models that stabilize the electroweak by realizing the Standard Model Higgs as a pseudo-Goldstone boson.
In many extensions of the standard model, the Higgs sector often contains an additional pseudoscalar boson. A good example is the SU(3) simplest little Higgs model, which accommodates a light pseudoscalar boson $η$ with quite different characteristics from those in other multi-Higgs-doublet models. We study various phenomenological signatures of the $η$ at the LHC. In particular, we calculate in details both production and decays in the Drell-Yan type channel $q \bar{q} \to Z/Z' \to h η$, and in the associated production with a $t\bar t$ pair, $gg (q\bar q) \to t \bar t η$. We emphasize the $τ…
The SU(3) simplest little Higgs model in its original framework without the so-called mu term inevitably involves a massless pseudoscalar boson eta, which is problematic for b-physics and cosmological axion limit. With the mu term introduced by hand, the eta boson acquires mass m_eta ~ mu, which can be lighter than half the Higgs boson mass in a large portion of the parameter space. In addition, the introduced mu term generates sizable coupling of H-eta-eta. The Higgs boson can dominantly decay into a pair of eta's especially when mH below the WW threshold. Another new decay channel of H->Z+et…
This article reviews the Little Higgs models of electroweak symmetry breaking and their phenomenology. Little Higgs models incorporate a light composite Higgs boson and remain perturbative until a scale of order 10 TeV, as required by precision electroweak data. The collective symmetry breaking mechanism, which forms the basis of Little Higgs models, is introduced. An explicit, fully realistic implementation of this mechanism, the Littlest Higgs model, is then discussed in some detail. Several other implementations, including simple group models and models with T parity, are also reviewed. Pre…
Little Higgs theories are a fascinating new idea to solve the little hierarchy problem by stabilizing the Higgs mass against one-loop quadratically divergent radiative corrections. In this talk I give a brief overview of the idea, focusing mainly on the littlest Higgs model, and present a sampling of the electroweak precision constraints.
Little Higgs models predict new gauge bosons, fermions and scalars at the TeV scale that stabilize the Higgs mass against quadratically divergent one-loop radiative corrections. We categorize the many little Higgs models into two classes based on the structure of the extended electroweak gauge group and examine the experimental signatures that identify the little Higgs mechanism in addition to those that identify the particular little Higgs model. We find that by examining the properties of the new heavy fermion(s) at the LHC, one can distinguish the structure of the top quark mass generation …
The littlest Higgs model is the most economical one among various little Higgs models. In the context of the littlest Higgs model, we study the process $e^{+}e^{-}\to e^{+}e^{-}H$ at the ILC and calculate the correction of the littlest Higgs model to the cross section of this process. The results show that, in the favorable parameter spaces preferred by the electroweak precision data, the value of the relative correction is in the range from a few percent to tens percent. In most case, the correction is large enough to reach the measurement precision of the ILC. Therefore, the correction of th…
The little Higgs idea is an alternative to supersymmetry as a solution to the gauge hierarchy problem. In this note, I review various little Higgs models and their phenomenology with emphases on the precision electroweak constraints in these models.
We present a novel new method for incorporating dark matter into little Higgs models in a way that can be applied to many existing models without introducing T-parity, while simultaneously alleviating precision constraints arising from heavy gauge bosons. The low energy scalar potential of these dark little Higgs models is similar to, and can draw upon existing phenomenological studies of, inert doublet models. Furthermore, we apply this method to modify the littlest Higgs model to create the next to littlest Higgs model, and describe details of the dark matter candidate and its contribution t…
Motivated by the search for flavor-changing neutral current (FCNC) top quark decays at the LHC, we calculate rare Higgs three body decay $H\rightarrow Wbc$ induced by top-Higgs FCNC coupling in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity(LHT). We find that the branching ratios of $H\rightarrow Wbc$ in the LHT model can reach $\mathcal O(10^{-7})$ in the allowed parameter space.
We present an ultra-violet extension of the "simplest little Higgs" model. The model marries the simplest little Higgs at low energies to two copies of the "littlest Higgs'' at higher energies. The result is a weakly coupled theory below 100 TeV with a naturally light Higgs. The higher cutoff suppresses the contributions of strongly coupled dynamics to dangerous operators such as those which induce flavor changing neutral currents and CP violation. We briefly survey the distinctive phenomenology of the model.
Any extension of the standard model that aims to describe TeV-scale physics without fine-tuning must have a radiatively-stable Higgs potential. In little Higgs theories, radiative stability is achieved through so-called collective symmetry breaking. In this letter, we focus on the necessary conditions for a little Higgs to have a collective Higgs quartic coupling. In one-Higgs doublet models, a collective quartic requires an electroweak triplet scalar. In two-Higgs doublet models, a collective quartic requires a triplet or singlet scalar. As a corollary of this study, we show that some little …
The production of single and doubly charged Higgs bosons associated with standard model gauge boson $Z_L$ in $e^{+}e^{-}$ colliders are examined. The sensitivity of these processes on the littlest Higgs model parameters in the range of compatibility with electroweak precision observables are analyzed. The possibility of detecting lepton flavor violation processes are also discussed.
Little Higgs theories are an exciting new possibility for physics at TeV energies. In the Standard Model the Higgs mass suffers from an instability under radiative corrections. This ``hierarchy problem'' motivates much of current physics beyond the Standard Model research. Little Higgs theories offer a new and very promising solution to this problem in which the Higgs is naturally light as a result of non-linearly realized symmetries. This article reviews some of the underlying ideas and gives a pedagogical introduction to the Little Higgs. The examples provided are taken from the paper "A Lit…
We calculate the two body Higgs boson decays in the framework of the littlest Higgs model. The decay $H \to γZ$ is computed at one loop level and, using previous results, we evaluate the branching fractions in the framework of the littlest Higgs model. A wide range of the space parameter of the model is considered and possible deviations from the standard model are explored.
Loops of the scalar particles present in Little Higgs models generate radiatively scalar operators that have been overlooked before in Little Higgs analyses. We compute them using a technique, recently proposed to deal with scalar fluctuations in non-linear sigma models, that greatly simplifies the calculation. In particular models some of these operators are not induced by loops of gauge bosons or fermions, are consistent with the Little Higgs symmetries that protect the Higgs boson mass, and must also be included in the Lagrangian. In general, scalar loops multiplicatively renormalize the tr…
We analyse the consequences of the little Higgs model for double Higgs boson production at the LHC and for the partial decay width of the Higgs into two photons. In particular, we study the sensitivity of these processes in terms of the parameters of the model. We find that the little Higgs model contributions are proportional to (v/f)^4 and hence do not change significantly either single or double Higgs production at hadron colliders or the partial decay width of the Higgs into two photons as compared to the standard model predictions. However, when interference and mixing effects are properl…
In this write-up I summarize the main points of our recent work, in which we showed that the large flavor QCD is regarded as a dynamical origin of little Higgs, and that the mass of such a little Higgs becomes actually very small.
Both Little Higgs and Higgsless Models provide new windows into the mysteries of electroweak symmetry breaking and lead to testable predictions at present and future colliders. Here we give a quick overview of three papers submitted to the ICHEP2004 meeting on these subjects.
The little Higgs model provides an alternative to traditional candidates for new physics at the TeV scale. The new heavy gauge bosons predicted by this model should be observable at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We discuss how the LHC experiments could test the little Higgs model by studying the production and decay of these particles.
Little Higgs models may provide a solution to the gauge hierarchy problem in the mass of the Higgs boson. In this framework the Higgs boson is arisen as the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone (PNG) boson. We show that the lepton triplet introduced in a little Higgs model explains a small mass parameter in the double see-saw mechanism for neutrino masses, and it can also gives an explanation for the axion like particle recently reported by PVLAS collaboration.
Higgs boson productions at the LHC will serve as a sensitive probe of various little Higgs models. In this work we comparatively study two littlest Higgs models with different T-parity constructions through examining their effects in three production processes of the Higgs boson at the LHC, namely the productions of a single Higgs, a Higgs-pair, as well as a Higgs boson associated with a pair of top and anti-top quarks. The two models are characterized by predicting a top partner canceling the Higgs mass quadratic divergence contributed by the top quark with even and odd T-parity, respectively…
In this note we examine the constraints imposed by muon anomalous magnetic moment ($(g-2)_μ$) and $μ^- \to e^+ e^- e^-$ on lepton number violating (LNV) couplings of the triplet Higgs in Little Higgs (LH) model.
Nowadays in the MSSM the moderate values of $\tanβ$ are almost excluded by LEP II lower bound on the lightest Higgs boson mass. In the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model the theoretical upper bound on it increases and reaches maximal value in the strong Yukawa coupling limit when all solutions of renormalization group equations are concentrated near the quasi-fixed point. For calculation of Higgs boson spectrum the perturbation theory method can be applied. We investigate the particle spectrum in the framework of the modified NMSSM which leads to the self-consistent solution in the …
We discuss the properties of light pseudoscalar particles, the so-called pseudoaxions, within Little Higgs models, focusing on their phenomenology at the ILC. We especially discuss a method of how to distinguish between the two basic classes of Little Higgs models, the product and simple group models, by a specific production channel and decay mode. These are strictly forbidden in the product group models.
We construct an extension of the MSSM in which scalar superpartners can naturally be as heavy as 1 TeV. In the MSSM, the most significant fine tuning stems from the logarithmically enhanced top-stop loop contribution to the soft Higgs mass. We combine supersymmetry with the "simplest little Higgs" to render this loop finite, thereby removing the large logarithm even in models in which superpartner masses are generated at high scales such as in supergravity. Our model predicts an extended Higgs sector, superpartner masses near a TeV and little Higgs partners at a few TeV.
We analyze double Higgs boson production at the LHC in the context of Little Higgs models. In double Higgs production, the diagrams involved are directly related to those that cause the cancellation of the quadratic divergence of the Higgs self-energy, so this mode provides a robust prediction for this class of models. We find that in extensions of this model with the inclusion of a so-called T-parity, there is a significant enhancement in the cross sections as compared to the Standard Model.
I review a technique to embed vector mesons in the chiral Lagrangian of QCD, and apply it to more general coset spaces, relevant for Little Higgs models. The implementation of heavy spin-1 fields in Little Higgs models allows for a better control over previously non calculable, ultra-violate sensitive quantities, such as the Higgs couplings. A relevant application is the study of vacuum alignment in the SU(6)/Sp(6) models.
We analyze double Higgs boson production at the Large Hadron Collider in the context of Little Higgs models. In double Higgs production, the diagrams involved are directly related to those that cause the cancellation of the quadratic divergence of the Higgs self-energy, providing a robust prediction for this class of models. We find that in extensions of this model with the inclusion of a so-called T-parity, there is a significant enhancement in the cross sections as compared to the Standard Model.
In this work, we show that the apparent symmetry non-restoration at high temperature for Little Higgs (LH), is not intrinsic feature for LH. We show that when including such dominant thermal corrections, the EW symmetry gets restored.
We compute the one loop new physics effects to the CP even triple neutral gauge boson vertices $γ^\star γZ$, $γ^\star Z \,Z$, $Z^\star \,Z\,γ$ and $Z^\star\,Z\,Z$ in the context of Little Higgs models. In addition, we re-examine the MSSM contribution at the chosen point of SPS1a' and compare with the SM and Little Higgs models.
`Little Higgs' models, in which the Higgs particle arises as a pseudo-Goldstone boson, have a natural mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking associated with the large value of the top quark Yukawa coupling. The mechanism typically involves a new heavy SU(2)_{L} singlet top quark, T. We discuss the relationship of the Higgs boson and the two top quarks. We suggest experimental tests of the Little Higgs mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking using the production and decay of the T at the Large Hadron Collider.
We proposed the spontaneous CP-violation in the Simplest Little Higgs model. In this model, the pseudoscalar field can acquire a nonzero vacuum expected value. It leads to a mixing between the two scalars with different CP-charge, which means spontaneous CP-violation happens. It is also a connection between composite Higgs mechanism and CP-violation. Facing the experimental constraints, the model is still alive for both scenarios in which the extra scalar appears below or around the electro-weak scale. We also discussed the future collider tests on CP-violation in the scalar sector through mea…
In this talk I will give a brief introduction to Little Higgs models in general, including an overview of all models in existence thus far. I then review some of the generic constraints on these models from electroweak precision measurements.
We study Lepton Flavour Violating hadron decays of the tau lepton within the Simplest Little Higgs model. Namely we consider $τ\rightarrow μ(P, V, PP)$ where $P$ and $V$ are short for a pseudoscalar and a vector meson. We find that, in the most positive scenarios, branching ratios for these processes are predicted to be, at least, four orders of magnitude smaller than present experimental bounds.
In the littlest Higgs model with T-parity, we studied the contributions of the new particles to the top-quark pair production via $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision at the International Linear Collider. We calculated the top-quark pair production cross section and found this process can generate significantly relative correction. The result may be a sensitive probe of the littlest Higgs model with T-parity.
Recently a new class of models has emerged that addresses the naturalness problem of a light Higgs boson. In these ''little Higgs'' models, the Standard Model Higgs boson is a pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson of an approximate global symmetry. The Higgs boson acquires mass radiatively only through ''collective breaking'' of the global symmetry, so that more than one interaction is required to give the Higgs a mass. This protects the Higgs mass from receiving quadratically divergent radiative corrections at one-loop. These models contain new vector bosons, fermions and scalars at the TeV scale that…
Little Higgs models have an enlarged global symmetry which makes the Higgs boson a pseudo-Goldstone boson. This symmetry typically contains spontaneously broken U(1) subgroups which provide light electroweak-singlet pseudoscalars. Unless such particles are absorbed as the longitudinal component of $Z'$ states, they appear as pseudoscalars in the physical spectrum at the electroweak scale. We outline their significant impact on Little Higgs phenomenology and analyze a few possible signatures at the LHC and other future colliders in detail. In particular, their presence significantly affects the…
