In this survey paper we study the relationships between the coarse moduli space which parameterizes the finite dimensional linear representations of an associative alegebra, the non commutative hilbert scheme and the affine scheme which is the spectrum of the abelianization of algebra of the divided powers. In particular we will show a map which specialize to the Hlibert - Chow morphism when the associative algebra is commutative. The extension to the positive characteristic case of some of the results due to L. Le Bruyn on noncommutative desingularization is outlined. The possibility to use our construction to extend the work done by C.H.Liu and S.T.Yau on D-Branes to their more recent work on non commutative case is underlined.
We prove that Chow groups of certain non-commutative Hilbert schemes have a basis consisting of monomials in Chern classes of the universal bundle. Furthermore, we realize the cohomology of non-commutative Hilbert schemes as a module over the Cohomological Hall algebra.
Let $k$ be a commutative ring and let $R$ be a commutative $k-$algebra. The aim of this paper is to define and discuss some connection morphisms between schemes associated to the representation theory of a (non necessarily commutative) $R-$algebra $A. $ We focus on the scheme $\ran//\GL_n$ of the $n-$dimensional representations of $A, $ on the Hilbert scheme $\Hilb_A^n$ parameterizing the left ideals of codimension $n$ of $A$ and on the affine scheme Spec $Γ_R^n(A)^{ab} $ of the abelianization of the divided powers of order $n$ over $A. $ We give a generalization of the Grothendieck-Deligne no…
We show that the moduli spaces of stable sheaves on projective schemes admit certain non-commutative structures, which we call quasi NC structures, generalizing Kapranov's NC structures. The completion of our quasi NC structure at a closed point of the moduli space gives a pro-representable hull of the non-commutative deformation functor of the corresponding sheaf developed by Laudal, Eriksen, Segal and Efimov-Lunts-Orlov. We also show that the framed stable moduli spaces of sheaves have canonical NC structures.
It is a well established fact, that any projective algebraic variety is a moduli space of representations over some finite dimensional algebra. This algebra can be chosen in several ways. The counterpart in algebraic geometry is tautological: every variety is its own Hilber scheme of sheaves of length one. This holds even scheme theoretic. We use Beilinson's equivalence to get similar results for finite dimensional algebras, including moduli spaces and quiver grassmannians. Moreover, we show that several already known results can be traced back to the Hilbert scheme construction and Beilinson'…
We introduce a formalism for derived moduli functors on differential graded associative algebras, which leads to non-commutative enhancements of derived moduli stacks and naturally gives rise to structures such as Hall algebras. Descent arguments are not available in the non-commutative context, so we establish new methods for constructing various kinds of atlases. The formalism permits the development of the theory of shifted bi-symplectic and shifted double Poisson structures in the companion paper.
We construct, using geometric invariant theory, a quasi-projective Deligne-Mumford stack of stable graded algebras. We also construct a derived enhancement, which classifies twisted bundles of stable graded A-infinity-algebras. The tangent complex of the derived scheme is given by graded Hochschild cohomology, which we relate to ordinary Hochschild cohomology. We obtain a version of Hilbert stability for non-commutative projective schemes.
We find certain relations between flag Hilbert schemes of points on plane curves and moduli spaces of one-dimensional plane sheaves. We show that some of these moduli spaces are unirational.
The Hilbert scheme of point modules was introduced by Artin-Tate-Van den Bergh to study non-commutative graded algebras. The key tool is the construction of a map from the algebra to a twisted ring on this Hilbert scheme. In this paper, we study moduli stacks of more general "fat" point modules, and show that there is a similar map to a twisted ring associated to the stack. This is used to provide a sufficient criterion for a non-commutative projective surface to be birationally PI. It is hoped that such a criterion will be useful in understanding Mike Artin's conjecture on the birational clas…
Given a quiver, we consider its cohomological Hall algebra (CoHA) as well as CoHA modules built of cohomology groups of non-commutative Hilbert schemes. We investigate cell decompositions of non-commutative Hilbert schemes and the corresponding (non-canonical) bases of CoHA modules. We construct canonical bases of CoHA modules, which consist of products of Chern classes of tautological vector bundles over non-commutative Hilbert schemes. This result generalizes classical results for Grassmannians and (partial) flag varieties.
We attempt to develop a general algebro-geometric study of the moduli stack of commutative, 1-parameter formal Lie groups. We emphasize the pro-algebraic structure of this stack: it is the inverse limit, over varying n, of moduli stacks of n-buds, and these latter stacks are algebraic. Our main results pertain to aspects of the height stratification relative to fixed prime p on the stacks of buds and formal Lie groups. We conclude with a largely expository account of some foundational material on limits in bicategories.
We survey the basic theory of non-commutative K3 surfaces, with a particular emphasis to the ones arising from cubic fourfolds. We focus on the problem of constructing Bridgeland stability conditions on these categories and we then investigate the geometry of the corresponding moduli spaces of stable objects. We discuss a number of consequences related to cubic fourfolds including new proofs of the Torelli theorem and of the integral Hodge conjecture, the extension of a result of Addington and Thomas and various applications to hyperkähler manifolds. These notes originated from the lecture ser…
We study the existence of components with the expected number of moduli of the Hilbert scheme of integral nodal curves $C \subset \mathbb {P}^r$ with prescribed degree, arithmetic genus and number of singular points.
We investigate the moduli space of sheaves supported on space curves of degree 4 and having Euler characteristic 1. We give an elementary proof of the fact that this moduli space consists of three irreducible components.
We construct the Hilbert compactification of the universal moduli space of semistable vector bundles over smooth curves. The Hilbert compactification is the GIT quotient of some open part of an appropriate Hilbert scheme of curves in a Grassmannian. It has all the properties asked for by Teixidor.
We construct five families of two-dimensional moduli spaces of parabolic Higgs bundles (respectively local systems) by taking the equivariant Hilbert scheme of a certain finite group acting on the cotangent bundle of an elliptic curve. We show that the Hilbert scheme of m points of these surfaces is again a moduli space of parabolic Higgs bundles (respectively local systems), confirming a conjecture of Boalch in these cases and extending a result of Gorsky--Nekrasov--Rubtsov. Using the McKay correspondence we establish the autoduality conjecture for the derived categories of the moduli spaces …
We classify all Gieseker semi-stable sheaves on the complex projective plane that have dimension 1, multiplicity 6 and Euler characteristic 3. We show that their moduli space is birational to the blow-up at a special point of a certain moduli space of semi-stable Kronecker modules.
We compute the Hodge numbers of the moduli space of semi-stable sheaves on the complex projective plane supported on quintic curves and having Euler characteristic 3. For this purpose we study the fixed-point set for a certain torus action on the moduli space.
We study the Simpson moduli space of semi-stable sheaves on the complex projective plane that have dimension 1, multiplicity 6 and Euler characteristic 2. We describe concretely these sheaves as cokernels of morphisms of locally free sheaves and we stratify the moduli space according to the types of sheaves that occur.
We propose an explicit relation between the cohomology of compactified and noncompactified moduli spaces of algebraic curves with punctures. This relationship generalizes one between commutative algebras and Lie algebras proposed by Lazard, Kontsevich and Ginzburg and Kapranov. More explicitly, we show that the cohomology of one moduli space is the graph complex decorated with the cohomology of the other, which in its turn generalizes Getzler's result for the genus zero moduli. We also show that a certain class of algebras over the chain operad of compactified moduli spaces has a natural struc…
Inspired by ideas from non-commutative geometry, unions of moduli spaces of linear control systems are identified as open subsets of infinite Grassmannians.
We obtain effective results for the global generation of pluritheta line bundles on moduli spaces of vector bundles on curves. The main ingredient is an independent result giving an upper bound on the dimension of the Hilbert scheme of coherent quotients of a given vector bundle.
The moduli space of rank-n commutative algebras equipped with an ordered basis is an affine scheme B_n of finite type over Z, with geometrically connected fibers. It is smooth if and only if n <= 3. It is reducible if n >= 8 (and the converse holds, at least if we remove the fibers above 2 and 3). The relative dimension of B_n is (2/27) n^3 + O(n^{8/3}). The subscheme parameterizing etale algebras is isomorphic to GL_n/S_n, which is of dimension only n^2. For n >= 8, there exist algebras are not limits of etale algebras. The dimension calculations lead also to asymptotic formulas for the numbe…
We determine the number of irreducible components of the reduction mod p of any Hilbert-Blumenthal moduli space with a parahoric level structure, where p is unramified in the totally real field.
Non-commutative Hilbert schemes, introduced by M. V. Nori, parametrize left ideals of finite codimension in free algebras. More generally, parameter spaces of finite codimensional submodules of free modules over free algebras are considered. Cell decompositions of these varieties are constructed, whose cells are parametrized by certain types of forests. Asymptotics for the corresponding Poincare polynomials and properties of their generating functions are discussed.
We study marginal and relevant supersymmetric deformations of the N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory in four dimensions. Our primary innovation is the interpretation of the moduli spaces of vacua of these theories as non-commutative spaces. The construction of these spaces relies on the representation theory of the related quantum algebras, which are obtained from F-term constraints. These field theories are dual to superstring theories propagating on deformations of the AdS_5xS^5 geometry. We study D-branes propagating in these vacua and introduce the appropriate notion of algebraic geometry for non…
In this paper, we investigate the apparent singularities and the dual parameters of rank 2 parabolic connections on $\mathbb{P}^1$ and rank 2 (parabolic) Higgs bundle on $\mathbb{P}^1$. Then we obtain explicit descriptions of Zariski open sets of the moduli space of the parabolic connections and the moduli space of the Higgs bundles. For $n=5$, we can give global descriptions of the moduli spaces in detail.
We construct a moduli scheme for semistable pre-$\D$-modules with prescribed singularities and numerical data on a smooth projective variety. These pre-$\D$-modules are to be viewed as regular holonomic $\D$-modules with `level structure'. We also construct a moduli scheme for perverse sheaves on the variety with prescribed singularities and other numerical data, and represent the de Rham functor (which gives the Riemann-Hilbert correspondence) by an analytic morphism between the two moduli schemes.
For a class of K3 surfaces, the action of a Lie algebra which is a certain affinization of a Kac-Moody algebra is given on the cohomology of the moduli spaces of rank 1 torsion free sheaves on the surface. This action is generated by correspondences between moduli spaces of Bridgeland stable objects on the surface, and is equivalent to an action defined using Fourier coefficients of vertex operators. Two other results are included: a more general result giving geometric finite dimensional Lie algebra actions on moduli spaces of Bridgeland stable objects on K3 surfaces subject to natural condit…
In this article we compare different conditions on abelian schemes with real multiplication which occur in the integral models of the Hilbert-Blumenthal Shimura variety considered by Rapoport, Deligne, Pappas and Kottwitz. We show that the models studied by Deligne/Pappas and Kottwitz are isomorphic over Spec Z_(p). We also examine the associated local models and prove that they are equal.
We introduce the good Hilbert functor and prove that it is algebraic. This functor generalizes various versions of the Hilbert moduli problem, such as the multigraded Hilbert scheme and the invariant Hilbert scheme. Moreover, we generalize a result concerning formal GAGA for good moduli spaces.
Let $C$ be a hyperelliptic curve embedded in its Jacobian $J$ via an Abel-Jacobi map. We compute the scheme structure of the Hilbert scheme component of $\textrm{Hilb}_J$ containing the Abel-Jacobi curve as a point. We relate the result to the ramification (and to the fibres) of the Torelli morphism $\mathcal M_g\rightarrow \mathcal A_g$ along the hyperelliptic locus. As an application, we determine the scheme structure of the moduli space of Picard sheaves (introduced by Mukai) on a hyperelliptic Jacobian.
Let $(C,\bt)$ ($\bt=(t_1,...,t_n)$) be an $n$-pointed smooth projective curve of genus $g$ and take an element $\blambda=(λ^{(i)}_j)\in\C^{nr}$ such that $-\sum_{i,j}λ^{(i)}_j=d\in\mathbf{Z}$. For a weight $\balpha$, let $M_C^{\balpha}(\bt,\blambda)$ be the moduli space of $\balpha$-stable $(\bt,\blambda)$-parabolic connections on $C$ and let $RP_r(C,\bt)_{\ba}$ be the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group $π_1(C\setminus\{t_1,...,t_n\},*)$ with the local monodromy data $\ba$ for a certain $\ba\in\C^{nr}$. Then we prove that the morphism $\RH:M_C^{\balpha}(\bt,\blambda)\righ…
The aim of this paper is to determine a bound of the dimension of an irreducible component of the Hilbert scheme of the moduli space of torsion-free sheaves on surfaces. Let $X$ be a non-singular irreducible complex surface and let $E$ be a vector bundle of rank $n$ on $X$. We use the $m$-elementary transformation of $E$ at a point $x \in X$ to show that there exists an embedding from the Grassmannian variety $\mathbb{G}(E_x,m)$ into the moduli space of torsion-free sheaves $\mathfrak{M}_{X,H}(n;c_1,c_2+m)$ which induces an injective morphism from $X \times M_{X,H}(n;c_1,c_2)$ to $Hilb_{\, \ma…
The Hilbert scheme $S^{[n]}$ of points on an algebraic surface $S$ is a simple example of a moduli space and also a nice (crepant) resolution of singularities of the symmetric power $S^{(n)}$. For many phenomena expected for moduli spaces and nice resolutions of singular varieties it is a model case. Hilbert schemes of points have connections to several fields of mathematics, including moduli spaces of sheaves, Donaldson invariants, enumerative geometry of curves, infinite dimensional Lie algebras and vertex algebras and also to theoretical physics. This talk will try to give an overview over …
Let $M(n,ξ)$ be the moduli space of stable vector bundles of rank $n\geq 3$ and fixed determinant $ξ$ over a smooth projective algebraic curve $X$ over $\mathbb{C}$ of genus $g\geq 4.$ We use the gonality of the curve and $r$-Hecke morphisms to describe a smooth open set and to compute the dimension of a component of the Hilbert scheme $Hilb_{M(n,ξ)}$, of the scheme of morphisms $Mor(\mathbb{G},M(n,ξ))$ and of the moduli space $ M_{X \times \mathbb{G}}$ of stable bundles over $X\times \mathbb{G},$ where $\mathbb{G}$ is the Grassmannian $\mathbb{G}(n-r,\mathbb{C}^n)$. In particular, we prove th…
In this paper, we show that the family of moduli spaces of $\balpha'$-stable $(\bt, \blambda)$-parabolic $ϕ$-connections of rank 2 over $\BP^1$ with 4-regular singular points and the fixed determinant bundle of degree -1 is isomorphic to the family of Okamoto--Painlevé pairs introduced by Okamoto \cite{O1} and \cite{STT02}. We also discuss about the generalization of our theory to the case where the rank of the connections and genus of the base curve are arbitrary. Defining isomonodromic flows on the family of moduli space of stable parabolic connections via the Riemann-Hilbert correspondences…
This paper applies methods of Van der Put and Van derPut-Saito to the fourth Painlevé equation. One obtains a Riemann--Hilbert correspondence between moduli spaces of rank two connections on $\mathbb{P}^1$ and moduli spaces for the monodromy data. The moduli spaces for these connections are identified with Okamoto--Painlevé varieties and the Painlevé property follows. For an explicit computation of the full group of Bäcklund transformations, rank three connections on $\mathbb{P}^1$ are introduced, inspired by the symmetric form for ${\rm PIV}$ as was studied by M. Noumi and Y. Yamada.
We construct a local model for Hilbert-Siegel moduli schemes with $Γ_1(p)$-level bad reduction over $\text{Spec }\mathbb{Z}_{q}$, where $p$ is a prime unramified in the totally real field and $q$ is the residue cardinality over $p$. Our main tool is a variant over the small Zariski site of the ring-equivariant Lie complex $_A\underline{\ell}_G^{\vee}$ defined by Illusie in his thesis, where $A$ is a commutative ring and $G$ is a scheme of $A$-modules. We use it to calculate the $\mathbb{F}_{q}$-equivariant Lie complex of a Raynaud group scheme, then relate the integral model and the local mode…
Denote by $\mathcal{H}_{d,g,r}$ the Hilbert scheme of smooth curves, that is the union of components whose general point corresponds to a smooth irreducible and non-degenerate curve of degree $d$ and genus $g$ in $\mathbb P^r$. A component of $\mathcal{H}_{d,g,r}$ is rigid in moduli if its image under the natural map $π:\mathcal{H}_{d,g,r} \dashrightarrow \mathcal{M}_{g}$ is a one point set. In this note, we provide a proof of the fact that $\mathcal{H}_{d,g,r}$ has no components rigid in moduli for $g > 0$ and $r=3$, from which it follows that the only smooth projective curves embedded in $\m…
We study multiview moduli problems that arise in computer vision. We show that these moduli spaces are always smooth and irreducible, in both the calibrated and uncalibrated cases, for any number of views. We also show that these moduli spaces always admit open immersions into Hilbert schemes for more than two views, extending and refining work of Aholt-Sturmfels-Thomas. We use these moduli spaces to study and extend the classical twisted pair covering of the essential variety.
Let $X$ be a compact connected Riemann surface of genus at least two and $G$ a connected reductive complex affine algebraic group. The Riemann--Hilbert correspondence produces a biholomorphism between the moduli space ${\mathcal M}_X(G)$ parametrizing holomorphic $G$--connections on $X$ and the $G$--character variety $${\mathcal R}(G):= \text{Hom}(π_1(X, x_0), G)/\!\!/G\, .$$ While ${\mathcal R}(G)$ is known to be affine, we show that ${\mathcal M}_X(G)$ is not affine. The scheme ${\mathcal R}(G)$ has an algebraic symplectic form constructed by Goldman. We construct an algebraic symplectic for…
Parabolic triples of the form $(E_*,θ,σ)$ are considered, where $(E_*,θ)$ is a parabolic Higgs bundle on a given compact Riemann surface $X$ with parabolic structure on a fixed divisor $S$, and $σ$ is a nonzero section of the underlying vector bundle. Sending such a triple to the Higgs bundle $(E_*,θ)$ a map from the moduli space of stable parabolic triples to the moduli space of stable parabolic Higgs bundles is obtained. The pull back, by this map, of the symplectic form on the moduli space of stable parabolic Higgs bundles will be denoted by $\text{d}Ω'$. On the other hand, there is a map f…
We investigate the geometry of the Simpson moduli space M of stable sheaves on P_3 with Hilbert polynomial H(m)=3m+1 and describe explicitly the two smooth, rational components, their 11-dimensional smooth, transversal intersection and the relation between M and the Hilbert scheme Hilb_H(P_3) of cubic space curves. We also compute the Betti numbers of the Chow groups of the moduli space M.
We study birational maps among 1) the moduli space of semistable torsion sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $4m+2$ on a smooth quadric surface, 2) the moduli space of semistable torsion sheaves of Hilbert polynomial $m^{2}+3m+2$ on $\mathbb{P}^{3}$, 3) Kontsevich's moduli space of genus zero stable maps of degree 2 to Grassmannian $Gr(2, 4)$. A regular birational morphism from 1) to 2) is described in terms of Fourier-Mukai transform. The map from 3) to 2) is Kirwan's partial desingularization. Also we investigate several geometric properties of 1) by using the variation of moduli spaces of stable …
We give a method for constructing maps from a non-commutative scheme to a commutative projective curve. With the aid of Artin-Zhang's abstract Hilbert schemes, this is used to construct analogues of the extremal contraction of a $K$-negative curve with self-intersection zero on a smooth projective surface. This result will hopefully be useful in studying Artin's conjecture on the birational classification of non-commutative surfaces. As a non-trivial example of the theory developed, we look at non-commutative ruled surfaces and, more generally, at non-commutative $\PP^1$-bundles. We show in pa…
As a continuation of the work of Freiermuth and Trautmann, we study the geometry of the moduli space of stable sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^3$ with Hilbert polynomial $4m+1$. The moduli space has three irreducible components whose generic elements are, respectively, sheaves supported on rational quartic curves, on elliptic quartic curves, or on planar quartic curves. The main idea of the proof is to relate the moduli space with the Hilbert scheme of curves by wall crossing. We present all stable sheaves contained in the intersections of the three irreducible components. We also classify stable sheav…
In this paper, we study the birational geometry of the Hilbert scheme of n points on P^2. We discuss the stable base locus decomposition of the effective cone and the corresponding birational models. We give modular interpretations to the models in terms of moduli spaces of Bridgeland semi-stable objects. We construct these moduli spaces as moduli spaces of quiver representations using G.I.T. and thus show that they are projective. There is a precise correspondence between wall-crossings in the Bridgeland stability manifold and wall-crossings between Mori cones. For n at most 9, we explicitly …
We study closures of GL_2(R)-orbits on the total space of the Hodge bundle over the moduli space of curves under the assumption that they are algebraic manifolds. We show that, in the generic stratum, such manifolds are the whole stratum, the hyperelliptic locus or parameterize curves whose Jacobian has additional endomorphisms. This follows from a cohomological description of the tangent bundle to strata. For non-generic strata similar results can be shown by a case-by-case inspection. We also propose to study a notion of 'linear manifold' that comprises Teichmueller curves, Hilbert modular s…
The aim of this paper is two--fold. We first strongly improve our previous main result Theorem 3.1 in Arxiv 1702.00918v3 12Feb2018 ("Brill-Noether loci of rank two vector bundles on a general $ν$-gonal curve"), concerning classification of irreducible components of the Brill--Noether locus parametrizing rank 2 semistable vector bundles of suitable degrees $d$, with at least $d-2g+4$ independent global sections, on a general $ν$--gonal curve $C$ of genus $g$. We then uses this classification to study several properties of the Hilbert scheme of suitable surface scrolls in projective space, which…
