This paper studies the problem of utility maximization for clients with delay based QoS requirements in wireless networks. We adopt a model used in a previous work that characterizes the QoS requirements of clients by their delay constraints, channel reliabilities, and delivery ratio requirements. In this work, we assume that the utility of a client is a function of the delivery ratio it obtains. We treat the delivery ratio for a client as a tunable parameter by the access point (AP), instead of a given value as in the previous work. We then study how the AP should assign delivery ratios to clients so that the total utility of all clients is maximized.
We apply the techniques introduced in two previous papers to decompose the utility maximization problem into two simpler problems, a CLIENT problem and an ACCESS-POINT problem. We show that this decomposition actually describes a bidding game, where clients bid for the service time from the AP. We prove that although all clients behave selfishly in this game, the resulting equilibrium point of the game maximizes the total utility. In addition, we also establish an efficient scheduling policy for the AP to reach the optimal point of the ACCESS-POINT problem. We prove that the policy not only approaches the optimal point but also achieves some forms of fairness among clients. Finally, simulation results show that our proposed policy does achieve higher utility than all other compared policies.
In wireless communication systems, Quality of Service (QoS) is one of the most important issues from both the users and operators point of view. All the parameters related to QoS are not same important for all users and applications. The satisfaction level of different users also does not depend on same QoS parameters. In this paper, we discuss the QoS parameters and then propose a priority order of QoS parameters based on protocol layers and service applications. We present the relation among the QoS parameters those influence the performance of other QoS parameters and, finally, we demonstra…
In wireless networks, stations can improve their received quality of service (QoS) by handling packets of source flows with higher priority. Additionally, in cooperative relay networks, the relays can handle transit flows with lower priority. We use game theory to model a two-hop relay network where each of the two involved stations can commit such selfish QoS manipulation. We design and evaluate a reputation-based incentive scheme called RISC2WIN, whereby a trusted third party (e.g., an access point) can limit selfish behavior and preserve appropriate QoS for both stations.
The development of self-interference (SI) cancelation technology makes full-duplex (FD) communication possible. Considering the quality of service (QoS) of flows in small cells densely deployed scenario with limited time slot (TS) resources, this paper introduces the FD communication into the concurrent scheduling problem of millimeter-wave (mmWave) wireless backhaul network. We propose a QoS-aware FD concurrent scheduling algorithm to maximize the number of flows with their QoS requirements satisfied. Based on the contention graph, the algorithm makes full use of the FD condition. Both residu…
Information Centric Networking based Handover Support for QoS Maintenance in Cooperative Heterogeneous Wireless Networks
Adhoc wireless sensor network is an architecture of connected nodes, each node has its main elements such as sensors, computation and communications capabilities. Adhoc WSNs restrained energy sources result in a shorter lifetime of the sensor network and inefficient topology. In this paper, a new approach for saving and energy controlling is introduced using quality of service, the main reason is to reduce the nodes energy through discovering the best optimum route that meets quality of service requirements; quality of service technique is used to find the optimum methodology for nodes packets…
The flexibility offered by reconfigurable wireless networks, provide new opportunities for various applications such as online AR/VR gaming, high-quality video streaming and autonomous vehicles, that desire high-bandwidth, reliable and low-latency communications. These applications come with very stringent Quality of Service (QoS) requirements and increase the burden over mobile networks. Currently, there is a huge spectrum scarcity due to the massive data explosion and this problem can be solved by helps of Reconfigurable Wireless Networks (RWNs) where nodes have reconfiguration and perceptio…
Multi-hop wireless networks with autonomous nodes are susceptible to selfish traffic remapping attacks (TRAs). Nodes launching TRAs leverage the underlying channel access function to receive unduly high quality of service (QoS) for packet flows traversing source-to-destination routes. TRAs are easy to execute, impossible to prevent, difficult to detect, and harmful to the QoS of honest nodes. Recognizing the need for providing QoS security, we use a novel network-oriented QoS metric to propose a self-enforcing game-theoretic mitigation approach. By switching between TRA and honest behavior, se…
The next generation wireless networks need efficient mechanisms for data dissemination that should support users with better Quality of Service (QoS). Nevertheless, the existing solutions are unable to handle this demand and require either network redeployment or replanning. Moreover, this upsurges the overall operational cost and complexity of the network. This problem can be addressed by deploying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), which can act as on-demand relays in next generation wireless networks. In this work, a novel strategy comprising a series of algorithms based on neural networks is…
Recent developments and widespread in wireless sensor network have led to many routing protocols, many of these protocols consider the efficiency of energy as the ultimate factor to maximize the WSN lifetime. The quality of Service (QoS) requirements for different applications of wireless sensor networks has posed additional challenges. Imaging and data transmission needs both QoS aware routing and energy to ensure the efficient use of sensors. In this paper, we propose an Efficient, Energy-Aware, Least Cost, (ECQSR) quality of service routing protocol for sensor networks which can run efficie…
Cooperative communication can improve communication quality in wireless communication networks through strategic relay selection. However, wireless cooperative communication networks are vulnerable to the attacks initiated on relays. Although applying authentication protocols can secure cooperative communication when the selected relay is malicious, better system throughput could be obtained without executing authentication protocol when the selected relay is free from attacker's attack. In this paper, a game theoretic approach is proposed to quantitatively analyze the attacking strategies of …
This paper investigates a dynamic buffer management scheme for QoS control of multimedia services in beyond 3G wireless systems. The scheme is studied in the context of the state-of-the-art 3.5G system i.e. the High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) which enhances 3G UMTS to support high-speed packet switched services. Unlike earlier systems, UMTS-evolved systems from HSDPA and beyond incorporate mechanisms such as packet scheduling and HARQ in the base station necessitating data buffering at the air interface. This introduces a potential bottleneck to end-to-end communication. Hence, buffe…
An Approximate Inner Bound to the QoS Aware Throughput Region of a Tree Network under IEEE 802.15.4 CSMA/CA and Application to Wireless Sensor Network Design
Communications based solely on radio frequency (RF) networks cannot provide adequate quality of service for the rapidly growing demands of wireless connectivity. Since devices operating in the optical spectrum do not interfere with those using the RF spectrum, wireless networks based on the optical spectrum can be added to existing RF networks to fulfill this demand. Hence, optical wireless communication (OWC) technology can be an excellent complement to RF-based technology to provide improved service. Promising OWC systems include light fidelity (LiFi), visible light communication, optical ca…

In this paper, Adaptive Genetic Algorithm (AGA) for identifying the shortest path in WMN satisfying multi- QoS measure is introduced. The proposed algorithm is adaptive in the sense that it uses various selection methods during the reproduction process and the one with the best multi-QoS measure is adopted in that generation .The multi-objective QoS measure defined as the combin…
This article defines the QoS-guaranteed efficient cloudlet deploy problem in wireless metropolitan area network, which aims to minimize the average access delay of mobile users i.e. the average delay when service requests are successfully sent and being served by cloudlets. Meanwhile, we try to optimize total deploy cost represented by the total number of deployed cloudlets. For the first target, both un-designated capacity and constrained capacity cases are studied, and we have designed efficient heuristic and clustering algorithms respectively. We show our algorithms are more efficient than …
Quality of service (QoS) provisioning in next-generation mobile communications systems entails a deep understanding of the delay performance. The delay in wireless networks is strongly affected by the traffic arrival process and the service process, which in turn depends on the medium access protocol and the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) distribution. In this work, we characterize the conditional distribution of the service process given the point process in Poisson bipolar networks. We then provide an upper bound on the delay violation probability combining tools from stochas…
This paper considers the joint optimization of trajectory and beamforming of a wirelessly connected robot using intelligent reflective surface (IRS)-assisted millimeter-wave (mm-wave) communications. The goal is to minimize the motion energy consumption subject to time and communication quality of service (QoS) constraints. This is a fundamental problem for industry 4.0, where robots may have to maximize their battery autonomy and communication efficiency. In such scenarios, IRSs and mm-waves can dramatically increase the spectrum efficiency of wireless communications providing high data rates…
Technological advancement has brought revolutionary change in the converged wireless networks. Due to the existence of different types of traffic, provisioning of Quality of Service (QoS) becomes a challenge in the wireless networks. In case of a congested network, resource allocation has emerged as an effective way to provide the excessive users with desirable QoS. Since QoS for non-real-time traffic are not as strict as for real-time traffic, the unoccupied channels of the adjacent cells can be assigned to the non-real-time traffic to retain QoS for real-time traffic. This results in the int…
In recent years, long-term evolution (LTE) and 5G NR (5th Generation New Radio) technologies have showed great potential to utilize Machine Learning (ML) algorithms in optimizing their operations, both thanks to the availability of fine-grained data from the field, as well as the need arising from growing complexity of networks. The aforementioned complexity sparked mobile operators' attention as a way to reduce the capital expenditures (CAPEX) and the operational (OPEX) expenditures of their networks through network management automation (NMA). NMA falls under the umbrella of Self-Organizing …
In this paper, we study the performance of greedy scheduling in multihop wireless networks, where the objective is aggregate utility maximization. Following standard approaches, we consider the dual of the original optimization problem. The dual can be solved optimally, only with the knowledge of the maximal independent sets in the network. But computation of maximal independent sets is known to be NP-hard. Motivated by this, we propose a distributed greedy heuristic to address the problem of link scheduling. We evaluate the effect of the distributed greedy heuristic on aggregate utility maxim…
The ubiquitous services of wireless communication networks are growing rapidly by the development of wireless communication technologies. While a user is roaming from one cell to another cell, an intelligent decision mechanism and network selection is extremely crucial to maintain the quality of service (QoS) during handover. Handover decision must be made precisely to avoid any unnecessary phenomenon like ping-pong, corner effect, call blocking, and call dropping etc. This work considered service types like voice, video, and data and their QoS requirements for handover decision using fuzzy lo…
