To tackle the difficulties faced by both stochastic dynamic programming and scenario tree methods, we present some variational approach for numerical solution of stochastic optimal control problems. We consider two different interpretations of the control problem, an algebraic and a functional one from which we derive optimality conditions. An adaptative mesh discretization method will be used to propose a tractable solution algorithm. An application to a hydro-electric dam production management problem will be presented.
In this study, we propose a varying terminal time structure for the optimal control problem under state constraints, in which the terminal time follows the varying of the control via the constrained condition. Focusing on this new optimal control problem, we investigate a novel stochastic maximum principle, which differs from the traditional optimal control problem under state constraints. The optimal pair of the optimal control model can be verified via this new stochastic maximum principle.
In this paper, we consider linear quadratic optimal control with mean-field type for discrete-time stochastic systems with state and control dependent noise. An optimal control problem is studied for a linear mean-field stochastic differential equation with a quadratic cost functional. The coefficients and the weighting matrices in the cost functional are all assumed to be deterministic.
In this paper, we study the optimal control of a discrete-time stochastic differential equation (SDE) of mean-field type, where the coefficients can depend on both a function of the law and the state of the process. We establish a new version of the maximum principle for discrete-time stochastic optimal control problems. Moreover, the cost functional is also of the mean-field type. This maximum principle differs from the classical principle since we introduce new discrete-time backward (matrix) stochastic equations. Based on the discrete-time backward stochastic equations where the adjoint equ…
This paper is concerned with the stochastic linear-quadratic optimal control problem with Poisson jumps. The coefficients in the state equation and the weighting matrices in the cost functional are all deterministic but are allowed indefinite. The notion of closed-loop strategies is introduced, and the optimal closed-loop strategy is characterized by a Riccati integral-differential equation and a backward stochastic differential equation with Poisson jumps.
We present a stochastic optimal control problem for a tree network. The dynamics of the network are governed by transport equations with a special emphasis on the non-linear damping function. Demand profiles at the network sinks are modelled by a stochastic differential equations. An explicit optimal inflow into the network is determined and numerical simulations are presented to show the effects for different choices of the non-linear damping.
This paper is concerned with a linear quadratic optimal control problem of delayed backward stochastic differential equations. An explicit representation is derived for the optimal control, which is a linear feedback of the entire past history and the future state trajectory in a short period of time. This is one of the major distinctive features of the delayed backward stochastic linear quadratic optimal control problem. To obtain the optimal feedback, a new class of delayed Riccati equations is introduced and the unique solvability of their solutions are discussed in detail.
This paper is concerned with a linear-quadratic (LQ, for short) optimal control problem for backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short), where the coefficients of the backward control system and the weighting matrices in the cost functional are allowed to be random. By a variational method, the optimality system, which is a coupled linear forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE, for short), is derived, and by a Hilbert space method, the unique solvability of the optimality system is obtained. In order to construct the optimal control, a new stochastic Riccati…
