We report the observation of the baryonic B-decay B0bar -> Lambda_c^+ antiproton K^- pi^+, excluding contributions from the decay B0bar -> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K^-. Using a data sample of 467*10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC, the measured branching fraction is (4.33 +/- 0.82_stat +/- 0.33_syst +/- 1.13_Lambda_c^+)*10^-5. In addition we find evidence for the resonant decay B0bar -> Sigma_c(2455)^++ antiproton K^- and determine its branching fraction to be (1.11 +/- 0.30_stat +/- 0.09_syst +/- 0.29_Lambda_c^+)*10^-5. The errors are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Lambda_c^+ branching fraction. For the resonant decay B0bar -> Lambda_c^+ antiproton K^*0 we obtain an upper limit of 2.42*10^-5 at 90% confidence level.
The formalism describing the scattering of two spin-1/2 objects is reviewed for the case of antilambda-lambda production from antiproton-proton annihilation. It is shown that an experiment utilizing a transverse target polarization can, in principle, completely determine the spin structure of the reaction. Additional measurements, even those using both beam and target polarizations, would not be sensitive to any additional spin dynamics. Thus, the transverse target polarization allows access to the complete set of spin observables, not just the subset upon which the literature has previously f…
Recent results on baryonic B decays from the two b-factories, BABAR and Belle, are presented. These include studies of B+ to p pbar pi+, B+ to p Lambdabar gamma and B0 to p Lambdabar pi-; observations of B+ to p Lambdabar pi0, B to Lambda_c+ Lambda_c- K, and B+ to Xibar0_c Lambda_c+; and study of the inclusive B decays to Lambda_c.
We have performed a search for radiative b-hadron decays using events produced in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV and collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The decays we considered were B_d -> K*0(-> K+ pi-) gamma, B_s -> phi(-> K+ K-) gamma, Lambda_b -> Lambda(-> p pi-) gamma, and their charge conjugates. Two independent methods to identify photons from such decays were employed. In the first method, the photon was detected in the electromagnetic calorimeter. In the second method, the photon was identified by an electron-positron pair produced through the external …
In a sample of 467 million $B\overline B$ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider at SLAC we have observed the decay $\overline{B}^0\rightarrowΛ_c^+{\overline p} π^0$ and measured the branching fraction to be $(1.94\pm0.17 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.50)\times 10^{-4}$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and the uncertainty on the $Λ_c^+\rightarrow p {K^-} π^+$ branching fraction, respectively. We determine an upper limit of $1.5\times 10^{-6}$ at $90\%$ C.L. for the product branching fraction ${\cal B} (\overline{B}^0\rightarrow Σ_c^+(2455)\overline p)\times{\cal B…
We report the results of a search for the rare baryonic decay modes B -> Lambda Lambdabar, B -> Lambdabar p, B -> Lambdabar p pi, and B -> p pbar using 5.8M BBbar pairs collected with the CLEO detector. We see no statistically significant signals in any of these modes and set 90% confidence level upper limits on their branching fractions, B(B -> Lambda Lambdabar) < 3.9 \times 10^{-6}, B(B -> Lambdabar p) < 2.6 \times 10^{-6}, B(B -> Lambdabar p pi) < 1.3 \times 10^{-5}, and B(B -> p pbar) < 7.0 \times 10^{-6}.
We report the first observation of the baryonic flavor-changing neutral current decay Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- with 24 signal events and a statistical significance of 5.8 Gaussian standard deviations. This measurement uses ppbar collisions data sample corresponding to 6.8fb-1 at sqrt{s}=1.96TeV collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. The total and differential branching ratios for Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- are measured. We find B(Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu-) = [1.73+-0.42(stat)+-0.55(syst)] x 10^{-6}. We also report the first measurement of the differential branching ratio…
Inclusive cross sections $σ^A=Ed^3{σ(X,P_t^2)/d^3p}$ of antiproton and negative pion production on Be, Al, Cu and Ta targets hit by 10 GeV protons were measured at the laboratory angles of 10.5$^{\circ}$ and 59$^{\circ}$. Antiproton cross sections were obtained in both kinematically allowed and kinematically forbidden regions for antiproton production on a free nucleon. The antiproton cross section ratio as a function of the longitudinal variable $X$ exhibits three separate plateaus which gives evidence for the existence of compact baryon configurations in nuclei-small-distance scaled objects …
Evidence is presented for the baryonic $B$ meson decay $\bar{B}\rightarrow D^0 Λ\barΛ$ based on a data sample of $471 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected with the {\it BABAR} detector at the PEP2 asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider located at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}\rightarrow D^0 Λ\barΛ) = (9.8^{+2.9}_{-2.6} \pm 1.9)\times 10^{-6}$, corresponding to a significance of $3.4$ standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. A search for the related baryonic $B$ meson decay $\bar{B}\rightarrow D^0 Σ^0 \barΛ$ wit…
It is recalled that spin-observables in the strangeness-exchange reaction $\bar{p}{p} \to \barΛΛ$ are not independent but are related to each other by simple algebraic relations. This provides constraints on the existing data on polarization and spin-correlation coefficients, and also on the forthcoming data obtained using a polarized proton target.
Using data from proton-antiproton collisions at Ecms=1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, evidence for the excited resonance state Lambda_b* is presented in its Lambda_b0 pi+ pi- decay, followed by the Lambda_b0 -->Lambda_c+ (-->proton K- pi+) pi- decays. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.6/fb collected by an online event selection based on charged-particle tracks displaced from the proton-antiproton interaction point. The significance of the observed signal is 3.5 Gaussian sigmas. The mass of the observed state …
We report on the analyses of the baryonic B decays B0bar -> LambdaC+ p- p+ p- and B- -> SigmaC++ p- pi- pi-. The underlying data sample consists of 470 x 10^6 BBbar pairs generated in the process e+e- -> Y(4S) and collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We find BR(B0bar -> LambdaC+ p- p+ p-) x BR(LambdaC+ -> p+ K- pi+) / 5% < 6.2 x 10^(-6) @ CL=90% and BR(B- -> SigmaC++ p- pi- pi-) = [2.98 +/- 0.16(stat) +/- 0.15(syst) +/- 0.77(LambdaC+)] x 10^(-4), where the last error is due to the uncertainty in BR(LambdaC+ -> p+ K- pi+). The data suggest the existence of reson…
In this report, femtoscopic measurements with proton-proton, antiproton-antiproton, proton-antiproton, proton-antilambda, antiproton-lambda and lambda-antilambda pairs in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=2.76 TeV registered by ALICE at the LHC are presented. Emission source sizes extracted from the correlation analysis with (anti)protons grow with the event multiplicity, as expected. A method to extract the interaction potentials (e.g. for proton-antilambda and antiproton-lambda pairs) based on femtoscopy analysis is discussed. The importance of taking into account the so-called residual correla…
Using data from proton-antiproton collisions at Ecms=1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, we present evidence for the excited resonance state Lambda_b* in its fully reconstructed decay mode to Lambda_b0 pi+ pi- where Lambda_b0 -->Lambda_c+ (-->proton K- pi+) pi-. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.6/fb collected by an online event selection based on tracks displaced from the proton-antiproton interaction point. The local significance of the observed signal is 4.6 Gaussian sigmas. while the significance of the sign…
In this short note we examine the exclusive three-body B --> Lambdabar p eta' decay using a simple pole model involving a scalar intermediate resonance state. Our aim is to test the recently formulated hypothesis that charmless baryonic B decays could occur mainly in association with eta' or gamma.
We report the measurement of the baryonic B decay B- -> SigmaC++ p- pi- pi-. Using a data sample of 467*10^6 B B-bar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC, the measured branching fraction is (2.98 +/- 0.16 (stat) +/- 0.15 (syst) +/- 0.77 (LambdaC+))*10^{-4}, where the last error is due to the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the decay LambdaC+ -> p+ K- pi+. The data suggest the existence of resonant subchannels B- -> LambdaC(2595)+ p- pi- and, possibly, B- -> SigmaC++ anti-Delta-- pi-. We see unexplained structures in m(SigmaC++ pi- pi-) at 3.25 GeV…
We report the measurement of the charmed baryonic decay B0bar->Lambda_c+pbar with a branching fraction of (2.19^{+0.56}_{-0.49}+-0.32+-0.57)x10^{-5} and a statistical significance of 5.8 sigma. The errors are statistical, systematic, and the error of the Lambda_c+ ->pK-pi+ decay branching fraction. This is the first observation of a two-body baryonic B decay. The analysis is based on 78.2 fb-1 of data accumulated at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e- collider.
We have compared the proton and antiproton angular distributions in 117 million Xi-minus -> Lambda + pi-minus -> proton + pi-minus + pi-minus and 41 million anti-Xi-minus -> anti-Lamba + pi-plus -> antiproton + pi-plus + pi-plus decays using a subset of the data from the HyperCP experiment (E871) at Fermilab. We find no evidence of CP violation, with the direct-CP-violating parameter $A_{ΞΛ} = \frac{α_Ξα_Λ - \barα_Ξ\barα_Λ}{α_Ξα_Λ + \barα_Ξ\barα_Λ} = [0.0+/-5.1(stat)+/-4.4(syst)]{\times}10^{-4}$.
Due to an excellent mass resolution and a large amount of available data, the CDF experiment, located at the Tevatron proton-antiproton accelerator, allows the precise measurement of spectroscopic properties, like mass and decay width, of a variety of states. This was exploited to examine the first orbital excitations of the Lambda_c baryon, the resonances Lambda_c(2595) and Lambda_c(2625), in the decay channel Lambda_c^+ pi^+ pi^-, as well as the Lambda_c spin excitations Sigma_c(2455) and Sigma_c(2520) in its decays to Lambda_c^+ pi^- and Lambda_c^+ pi^+ final states in a data sample corresp…
We report first measurements of the doubly charmed baryonic B decays B->Lambda_c+Lambda_c-K. The B+->Lambda_c+Lambda_c-K+ decay is observed with a branching fraction of (6.5+1.0-0.9+-1.1+-3.4)x10^{-4} and a statistical significance of 15.4sigma. The B0->Lambda_c+Lambda_c-K0 decay is observed with a branching fraction of (7.9+2.9-2.3+-1.2+-4.2)x10^{-4} and a statistical significance of 6.6sigma. The branching fraction errors are statistical, systematic, and the error resulting from the uncertainty of Lambda_c+->pK-pi+ decay branching fraction. The analysis is based on 357fb-1 of data accumulate…
We present a measurement of the B0 --> Lambda-bar p pi- branching fraction performed using the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric e+e- collider. Based on a sample of 467 million BB-bar pairs we measure B(B0 --> Lambda-bar p pi-) = [3.07 pm 0.31 (stat.) pm 0.23 (syst.)] x 10^{-6}. The measured differential spectrum as a function of the dibaryon invariant mass m(Lambda p) shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays. We study the Lambda-bar polarization as a function of Lambda-bar energy in the B0 rest frame (E*_Lambda) and compare it with theoretic…
The angular distributions of the baryon-antibaryon low-mass enhancements seen in the charmless three-body baryonic B decays B^+ \to p pbar K^+, B^0 \to p pbar K_S^0, and B^0 \to p Lambdabar pi^- are reported. Searches for the pentaquarks Theta^+ and Theta^{++} in the relevant decay modes and possible glueball states in the p pbar systems are presented. The analysis is based on a 140 fb^{-1} data sample recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider.
We present a measurement of the B0 -> Lambda-bar p pi branching fraction performed using the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy e+e- collider. Based on a 232 million BB-bar pairs data sample we measure: BR(B0 -> Lambda-bar p pi) = [ 3.30 +- 0.53 (stat.) +- 0.31(syst.) ] x 10^-6. A measurement of the differential spectrum as a function of the di-baryon invariant mass m(Lambda p) is also presented; this shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays.
We study the baryonic charmonium decays of B mesons, B+ to etac K+ and B+ to J/psi K+, where the etac and J/psi subsequently decay into a p pbar or Lambda Lambdabar pair. We measure the J/psi to p pbar, Lambda Lambdabar anisotropy parameters, alpha_B = -0.60 +- 0.13 +-0.14 (p pbar), -0.44 +- 0.51 +- 0.31 (Lambda Lambdabar) and compare to results from e+e- to J/psi formation experiments. We also report the first observation of etac to Lambda Lambdabar. The measured branching fraction is B(etac to Lambda Lambdabar) = (0.87 +0.24 -0.21(stat) +0.09 -0.14(syst) +- 0.27 (PDG)) x 10^-3. This study is…
We study the charmless baryonic three-body decays of B mesons: B+ to p Lambdabar gamma, B+ to p Lambdabar pi0 and B0 to p Lambdabar pi-. The partial branching fractions as a function of the baryon-antibaryon mass and the polar angle distributions of the proton in the baryon-antibaryon system are presented. This study includes the first observation of B+ to p Lambdabar pi0, which is measured to have a branching fraction of (3.00^{+0.61}_{-0.53}\pm 0.33) times 10^{-6}. We also set upper limits on branching fractions of the two-body decays B0 to p Sigmabar^{*-}, B0 to Delta^0 Lambdabar, B+ to p S…
Production of Sigma- and Lambda(1520) in hadronic Z decays has been measured using the DELPHI detector at LEP. The Sigma- is directly reconstructed as a charged track in the DELPHI microvertex detector and is identified by its Sigma -> n pi decay leading to a kink between the Sigma- and pi-track. The reconstruction of the Lambda(1520) resonance relies strongly on the particle identification capabilities of the barrel Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector and on the ionisation loss measurement of the TPC. Inclusive production spectra are measured for both particles. The production rates are measured …
Recent rate measurements of B_s mesons and Lambda_b baryons produced in sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV proton-antiproton and Upsilon(5S) electron-positron collisions are reviewed, including the first observations of six new decay modes: B_s -> D_s^+ K^- (CDF), B_s -> D_s^- D_s^+ (CDF), B_s -> D_{s1}^-(2536) mu^+ nu_mu X (DZero), B_s -> phi gamma (Belle), Lambda_b -> p pi^- (CDF), and Lambda_b -> p K^- (CDF). Also examined are branching-fraction measurements or limits for the B_s -> D_s^{(*)} D_s^{(*)} modes (Belle, CDF, and DZero), the B_s -> gamma gamma radiative penguin decay (Belle), and three two-body…
We review recent experimental results on Bd and Bs mesons decays by the BaBar and Belle experiments. These include measurements of the color-suppressed decays B0bar to D(*)0h0, h0=pi0, eta, etaprime, omega, observation of the baryonic decay B0bar to Lambdac+ Lambdabar K-, measurements of the charmless decays B to eta h, h=K, pi, B to Kpi and observation of CP eigenstates in the Bs decays: B0s to J/psi f0(980), B0s to J/psi f0(1370) and B0s to J/psi eta. The theoretical implications of these results will be considered.
The decay $D_s^+\to p \bar p e^+ν_e$ with a proton-antiproton pair in the final state is unique in the sense that it is the only semileptonic baryonic decay which is physically allowed in the charmed meson sector. Its measurement will test our basic knowledge on semileptonic $D_s^+$ decays and the low-energy $p\bar p$ interactions. Taking into account the major intermediate state contributions from $η, η', f_0(980)$ and $X(1835)$, we find that its branching fraction is at the level of $10^{-9} \sim 10^{-8}$. The location and the nature of $X(1835)$ state are crucial for the precise determinati…
The angular distributions of the baryon-antibaryon low-mass enhancements seen in the charmless three-body baryonic B decays B+ -> p pbar K+, B0 -> p pbar Ks, and B0 -> p Lambdabar pi- are reported. A quark fragmentation interpretation is supported, while the gluonic resonance picture is disfavored. Searches for the Theta+ and Theta++ pentaquarks in the relevant decay modes and possible glueball states G with 2.2 GeV/c2 < M-ppbar < 2.4 GeV/c2 in the ppbar systems give null results. We set upper limits on the products of branching fractions, B(B0 -> Theta+ p)\times B(Theta+ -> p Ks) < 2.3 \times…
We present a study of ten B-meson decays to a D(*), a proton-antiproton pair, and a system of up to two pions using BaBar's data set of 455x10^6 BBbar pairs. Four of the modes (B0bar -> D0 p anti-p, B0bar -> D*0 p anti-p, B0bar -> D+ p anti-p pi-, B0bar -> D*+ p anti-p pi-) are studied with improved statistics compared to previous measurements; six of the modes (B- -> D0 p anti-p pi-, B- -> D*0 p anti-p pi-, B0bar -> D0 p anti-p pi- pi+, B0bar -> D*0 p anti-p pi- pi+, B- -> D+ p anti-p pi- pi-, B- -> D*+ p anti-p pi- pi-) are first observations. The branching fractions for 3- and 5-body decays…
We report the observation of the baryonic B decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- with a significance larger than 7 standard deviations based on 471x10^6$ BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We measure the branching fraction for the decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- to be (3.8 \pm 0.8_{stat} \pm 0.2_{sys} \pm 1.0_{Lambda_c^+})x10^{-5}. The uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Lambda_c^+ branching fraction. We find that the Lambda_c^+ K^- invariant mass distribution shows an enhancement above 3.5 G…
Using 3.08 million psi(2S) decays observed in e^+e^- collisions by the CLEO detector, we present the results of a study of the psi(2S) decaying into baryon-antibaryon final states. We report the most precise measurements of the following eight modes: proton-antiproton, lambda-antilambda, Xi^- antiXi^-, Xi^0-antiXi^0 (first observation), Sigma+-antiSigma^+ (first observation), and Sigma^0-antiSigma^0, and place upper limits for the modes, Xi^0*-antiXi^0* and Omega^- antiOmega^-.
The large data sample recorded with the Belle detector at the Y(5S) energy provides a unique opportunity to study the poorly-known $\bs$ meson. Two analyses, performed with a data sample representing an integrated luminosity of 121 /fb, are presented: the measurement of the Bs0->J/psi f0(980) and Bs0->J/psi f0(1370) branching fractions, and the 5sigma observation of the decay Bs0-bar->Lambda(c)+ pi- Lambda-bar which is the first observation of a baryonic Bs0 decay. In addition, we present new results of a measurement of the CKM angle phi_1(beta) with B pi tagged events.
Using 121.4 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the Y(5S) resonance at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider, we report evidence for the B_s^0 -> Lambda_c^+ Lambda-bar pi^- decay mode with a measured branching fraction (3.6 +- 1.1[stat.] {+0.3 -0.5}[syst.] +- 0.9[Lambda_c^+] +- 0.7[N_{Bs}]) * 10^{-4} and a significance of 4.4 standard deviations. This is the first evidence for a baryonic B_s^0 decay.
