We report the first observation of the baryonic flavor-changing neutral current decay Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- with 24 signal events and a statistical significance of 5.8 Gaussian standard deviations. This measurement uses ppbar collisions data sample corresponding to 6.8fb-1 at sqrt{s}=1.96TeV collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. The total and differential branching ratios for Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu- are measured. We find B(Lambda_b -> Lambda mu+ mu-) = [1.73+-0.42(stat)+-0.55(syst)] x 10^{-6}. We also report the first measurement of the differential branching ratio of B_s -> phi mu+ mu- using 49 signal events. In addition, we report branching ratios for B+ -> K+ mu+ mu-, B0 -> K0 mu+ mu-, and B -> K*(892) mu+ mu- decays.

Using a data sample of 467*10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC, the measured branching fraction is (4.33 +/- 0.82_stat +/- 0.33_syst +/- 1.13_Lambda_c^+)*10^-5. In addition we find evidence for the resonant decay B0bar -> Sigma_c(2455)^++ antiproton K^- and determine its branching fraction to be (1.11 +/- 0.30_stat +/- 0.09_syst +/- 0.29_Lambda_c^+)*10^-5. The errors are statistic…
We report on the analyses of the baryonic B decays B0bar -> LambdaC+ p- p+ p- and B- -> SigmaC++ p- pi- pi-. The underlying data sample consists of 470 x 10^6 BBbar pairs generated in the process e+e- -> Y(4S) and collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We find BR(B0bar -> LambdaC+ p- p+ p-) x BR(LambdaC+ -> p+ K- pi+) / 5% < 6.2 x 10^(-6) @ CL=90% and BR(B- -> SigmaC++ p- pi- pi-) = [2.98 +/- 0.16(stat) +/- 0.15(syst) +/- 0.77(LambdaC+)] x 10^(-4), where the last error is due to the uncertainty in BR(LambdaC+ -> p+ K- pi+). The data suggest the existence of reson…
In this short note we examine the exclusive three-body B --> Lambdabar p eta' decay using a simple pole model involving a scalar intermediate resonance state. Our aim is to test the recently formulated hypothesis that charmless baryonic B decays could occur mainly in association with eta' or gamma.
We report the measurement of the baryonic B decay B- -> SigmaC++ p- pi- pi-. Using a data sample of 467*10^6 B B-bar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC, the measured branching fraction is (2.98 +/- 0.16 (stat) +/- 0.15 (syst) +/- 0.77 (LambdaC+))*10^{-4}, where the last error is due to the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the decay LambdaC+ -> p+ K- pi+. The data suggest the existence of resonant subchannels B- -> LambdaC(2595)+ p- pi- and, possibly, B- -> SigmaC++ anti-Delta-- pi-. We see unexplained structures in m(SigmaC++ pi- pi-) at 3.25 GeV…
We report the measurement of the charmed baryonic decay B0bar->Lambda_c+pbar with a branching fraction of (2.19^{+0.56}_{-0.49}+-0.32+-0.57)x10^{-5} and a statistical significance of 5.8 sigma. The errors are statistical, systematic, and the error of the Lambda_c+ ->pK-pi+ decay branching fraction. This is the first observation of a two-body baryonic B decay. The analysis is based on 78.2 fb-1 of data accumulated at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e- collider.
A selection of recent heavy-flavor results from OPAL using the LEP1 data sample are presented. The average polarization of b baryons in hadronic Z^0 decay has been measured to be -0.56^{+0.20}_{-0.13} (stat.) +- 0.09(syst.) using semileptonic decays of Lambda_b baryons. A search has been conducted for the radially excited D*' and has produced a 95% CL upper limit on its production of f(Z^0 -> D*'+-(2629))xBr(D*'+- -> D*+- pi+ pi-) < 2.1x10^{-3}. Finally, the measurement of the product branching ratio $f(b -> Lambda_b)xBr(Lambda_b -> Lambda X)= (2.67 +- 0.38 (stat) ^{+0.67}_{-0.60}(syst.))% has…
We report on a new search for two-body baryonic decays of the B meson. Improved sensitivity compared to previous Belle results is obtained from 414 fb^-1 of data that corresponds to 449 million B B-bar pairs, which were taken on the Upsilon(4S) resonance and collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e^+e^- collider. No significant signals are observed and we set the 90% confidence level upper limits: Br(B^0-> p pbar) <1.1X10^-7, Br(B^0-> Lambda Lambda-bar) < 3.2X10^-7 and Br(B^+-> p Lambda-bar) < 3.2X10^-7.
We report first measurements of the doubly charmed baryonic B decays B->Lambda_c+Lambda_c-K. The B+->Lambda_c+Lambda_c-K+ decay is observed with a branching fraction of (6.5+1.0-0.9+-1.1+-3.4)x10^{-4} and a statistical significance of 15.4sigma. The B0->Lambda_c+Lambda_c-K0 decay is observed with a branching fraction of (7.9+2.9-2.3+-1.2+-4.2)x10^{-4} and a statistical significance of 6.6sigma. The branching fraction errors are statistical, systematic, and the error resulting from the uncertainty of Lambda_c+->pK-pi+ decay branching fraction. The analysis is based on 357fb-1 of data accumulate…
We present a measurement of the B0 --> Lambda-bar p pi- branching fraction performed using the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric e+e- collider. Based on a sample of 467 million BB-bar pairs we measure B(B0 --> Lambda-bar p pi-) = [3.07 pm 0.31 (stat.) pm 0.23 (syst.)] x 10^{-6}. The measured differential spectrum as a function of the dibaryon invariant mass m(Lambda p) shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays. We study the Lambda-bar polarization as a function of Lambda-bar energy in the B0 rest frame (E*_Lambda) and compare it with theoretic…
We present a search for semileptonic B decays to the charmed baryon Lambda_c+ based on 420 fb-1 of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II $e^+e^-$ storage rings. By fully reconstructing the recoiling B in a hadronic decay mode, we reduce non-B backgrounds and determine the flavor of the signal B. We statistically correct the flavor for the effect of the B0 mixing. We obtain a 90% confidence level upper limit of BF(Bbar --> Lambda_c+ X l- nubar)/BF(Bbar --> Lambda_c+ X) < 3.5 %.
The angular distributions of the baryon-antibaryon low-mass enhancements seen in the charmless three-body baryonic B decays B^+ \to p pbar K^+, B^0 \to p pbar K_S^0, and B^0 \to p Lambdabar pi^- are reported. Searches for the pentaquarks Theta^+ and Theta^{++} in the relevant decay modes and possible glueball states in the p pbar systems are presented. The analysis is based on a 140 fb^{-1} data sample recorded on the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider.
The Tevatron experiments CDF and D0 have filled many empty spots in the spectrum of heavy baryons over the last few years. The most recent results are described in this article: The first direct observation of the Xi_b^0, improved measurements of Sigma_b properties, a new measurement of the Lambda_b -> J/psi Lambda branching ratio, and a high-statistics study of charm baryons.
We present a measurement of the B0 -> Lambda-bar p pi branching fraction performed using the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy e+e- collider. Based on a 232 million BB-bar pairs data sample we measure: BR(B0 -> Lambda-bar p pi) = [ 3.30 +- 0.53 (stat.) +- 0.31(syst.) ] x 10^-6. A measurement of the differential spectrum as a function of the di-baryon invariant mass m(Lambda p) is also presented; this shows a near-threshold enhancement similar to that observed in other baryonic B decays.
We study the baryonic charmonium decays of B mesons, B+ to etac K+ and B+ to J/psi K+, where the etac and J/psi subsequently decay into a p pbar or Lambda Lambdabar pair. We measure the J/psi to p pbar, Lambda Lambdabar anisotropy parameters, alpha_B = -0.60 +- 0.13 +-0.14 (p pbar), -0.44 +- 0.51 +- 0.31 (Lambda Lambdabar) and compare to results from e+e- to J/psi formation experiments. We also report the first observation of etac to Lambda Lambdabar. The measured branching fraction is B(etac to Lambda Lambdabar) = (0.87 +0.24 -0.21(stat) +0.09 -0.14(syst) +- 0.27 (PDG)) x 10^-3. This study is…
We study the charmless baryonic three-body decays of B mesons: B+ to p Lambdabar gamma, B+ to p Lambdabar pi0 and B0 to p Lambdabar pi-. The partial branching fractions as a function of the baryon-antibaryon mass and the polar angle distributions of the proton in the baryon-antibaryon system are presented. This study includes the first observation of B+ to p Lambdabar pi0, which is measured to have a branching fraction of (3.00^{+0.61}_{-0.53}\pm 0.33) times 10^{-6}. We also set upper limits on branching fractions of the two-body decays B0 to p Sigmabar^{*-}, B0 to Delta^0 Lambdabar, B+ to p S…
We report on a study of inclusive $B^-$ and $\bar{B}^0$ meson decays to ${D^0 X}$, ${\bar{D}^0 X}$, ${D^+ X}$, ${D^- X}$, ${D_s^+ X}$, ${D_s^- X}$, ${Λ_c^+ X}$, ${\barΛ_c^- X}$, based on a sample of 231 million $B\bar{B}$ events recorded with the BABAR detector at the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance. Events are selected by completely reconstructing one $B$ and searching for a reconstructed charm particle in the rest of the event. From the measured branching fractions of these decays, we infer the number of charm and anti-charm particles per $\bar{B}$ decay, separately for charged and neutral parents. We d…
Production of Sigma- and Lambda(1520) in hadronic Z decays has been measured using the DELPHI detector at LEP. The Sigma- is directly reconstructed as a charged track in the DELPHI microvertex detector and is identified by its Sigma -> n pi decay leading to a kink between the Sigma- and pi-track. The reconstruction of the Lambda(1520) resonance relies strongly on the particle identification capabilities of the barrel Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector and on the ionisation loss measurement of the TPC. Inclusive production spectra are measured for both particles. The production rates are measured …
We report on a search for Lambda_b -> p pi- and Lambda_b -> p K- (and charge conjugate) decays in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using 193 pb-1 of data collected by CDFII experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Data were collected using a track trigger that has been optimized to select tracks belonging to a secondary vertex that is typical of two body charmless decays of b-flavored hadrons, including Lambda_b baryons. As no Lambda_b signal was observed, we set the upper limits on the branching fractions BR(Lambda_b -> p h-) where h is K or pi, of 2.3x10-5 at 90% C.L. and 2.9x10-…
We have measured the differential production cross sections as a function of scaled momentum x_p=2p/E_cm of the identified hadron species pi+, K+, K0, K*0, phi, p, Lambda0, and of the corresponding antihadron species in inclusive hadronic Z0 decays, as well as separately for Z0 decays into light (u, d, s), c and b flavors. Clear flavor dependences are observed, consistent with expectations based upon previously measured production and decay properties of heavy hadrons. These results were used to test the QCD predictions of Gribov and Lipatov, the predictions of QCD in the Modified Leading Loga…
We review recent experimental results on Bd and Bs mesons decays by the BaBar and Belle experiments. These include measurements of the color-suppressed decays B0bar to D(*)0h0, h0=pi0, eta, etaprime, omega, observation of the baryonic decay B0bar to Lambdac+ Lambdabar K-, measurements of the charmless decays B to eta h, h=K, pi, B to Kpi and observation of CP eigenstates in the Bs decays: B0s to J/psi f0(980), B0s to J/psi f0(1370) and B0s to J/psi eta. The theoretical implications of these results will be considered.
The angular distributions of the baryon-antibaryon low-mass enhancements seen in the charmless three-body baryonic B decays B+ -> p pbar K+, B0 -> p pbar Ks, and B0 -> p Lambdabar pi- are reported. A quark fragmentation interpretation is supported, while the gluonic resonance picture is disfavored. Searches for the Theta+ and Theta++ pentaquarks in the relevant decay modes and possible glueball states G with 2.2 GeV/c2 < M-ppbar < 2.4 GeV/c2 in the ppbar systems give null results. We set upper limits on the products of branching fractions, B(B0 -> Theta+ p)\times B(Theta+ -> p Ks) < 2.3 \times…
A search for new bosons possessing couplings to lepton-quark pairs is performed in the H1 experiment at HERA using 1994 to 1997 data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 37pb^-1. First generation leptoquarks (LQs) are searched in very high Q^2 neutral (NC) and charged (CC) current data samples. The measurements are compared to Standard Model (SM) expectations from deep-inelastic scattering (DIS). A deviation in the Q^2 spectrum previously observed in the 1994 to 1996 dataset at Q^2 \gsim 15000GeV^2 remains, though with less significance. This deviation corresponded to a clustering in t…
We report the results of a high-statistics search for H-dibaryon production in inclusive Y(1S) and Y(2S) decays. No indication of an H-dibaryon with mass near the M_H=2m_Lambda threshold is seen in either the H-> Lambda p pi- or Lambda-Lambda decay channels and 90% confidence level branching-fraction upper limits are set that are between one and two orders of magnitude below the measured branching fractions for inclusive Y(1S) and Y(2S) decays to antideuterons. Since Y(1,2S) decays produce flavor-SU(3)-symmetric final states, these results put stringent constraints on H-dibaryon properties. Th…
A search for physics beyond the standard model in events with at least three leptons is presented. The data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collisions with center-of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 8 TeV, was collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC during 2012. The data are divided into exclusive categories based on the number of leptons and their flavor, the presence or absence of an opposite-sign, same-flavor lepton pair (OSSF), the invariant mass of the OSSF pair, the presence or absence of a tagged bottom-quark jet, the number of ident…
We report the observation of the baryonic B decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- with a significance larger than 7 standard deviations based on 471x10^6$ BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We measure the branching fraction for the decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- to be (3.8 \pm 0.8_{stat} \pm 0.2_{sys} \pm 1.0_{Lambda_c^+})x10^{-5}. The uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Lambda_c^+ branching fraction. We find that the Lambda_c^+ K^- invariant mass distribution shows an enhancement above 3.5 G…
A search is performed for Higgs-boson-mediated flavor-changing neutral currents in the decays of top quarks. The search is based on proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Events in which a top quark pair is produced with one top quark decaying into a charm or up quark and a Higgs boson (H), and the other top quark decaying into a bottom quark and a W boson are selected. The Higgs boson in these events is assumed to subsequently decay into either dibosons or…
We compute the branching ratios for the rare top quark decays t to c gamma and t to c Z mediated by effective flavor changing neutral couplings at the next-to-leading order in QCD including the effects due to operator mixing. After re-suming contributions of order [alpha_s log (Lambda / m_t)]^n, where Lambda is the scale at which the effective operators are generated, at leading log level using renormalization group methods, we compute finite matrix element corrections and study the effects of experimental kinematic cuts on the extracted branching ratios. We find that the t to c gamma decay ca…
Motivated by large nu_mu-nu_tau flavor mixing, we consider mu-tau production at hadron colliders via dimension-6 effective operators, which can be attributed to new physics in the flavor sector at a higher scale Lambda. Current bounds on many of these operators from low energy experiments are very weak or nonexistent, and they may lead to clean mu+tau- and mu-tau+ signals at hadron colliders. At the Tevatron with 8 inverse femtobarns, one can exceed current bounds for most operators, with most 2 sigma sensitivities being in the 6-24 TeV range. We find that at the LHC with 1 (100) inverse femto…
We find that, at order alpha_s, the partial width of Z^0 to heavy flavors receives a power correction from a novel QCD mechanism, which is not suppressed by inverse powers of M_Z, but only by two unknown O(\lambdaqcd/m) constants. The hadronic W width also receives a similar correction. These parameters may be fitted from the global electroweak analysis, and consequently the Standard Model predictions of various electroweak observables will be updated. This new mechanism is of no help to reconcile the discrepancy in b forward-backward asymmetry. We also point out the implication of this mechan…
We examine the nature of the unknown enhancement around 3 GeV observed by the BABAR collaboration in the $m_{p\bar p}$ spectrum of the $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^0$ decay. Suspecting that the peak is a resonance, which can be neither identified as a charmonium state, such as $η_c$ or $J/ψ$, nor classified as one of the light-flavor mesons, we conclude that it corresponds to a glueball fitted as X(3020) with $(m_X,\;Γ_X)=(3020\pm 8,\; 107\pm 30)\;\text{MeV}$, which could be the first glueball state above 3 GeV. This state also appears in the $m_{p\bar p}$ spectrum of the $\bar B^0\to p\bar p D^{*0}…
