We investigate the coherent transport of a single photon in coupled semiconductor microcavity waveguide, which can be controlled by in-plane excitons in quantum well embedded in the antinode of the electromagnetic field in one of the cavities. The reflection coefficient and transmissivity for the single photon propagating in this semiconductor waveguide are obtained. It is shown that the effect of the excitons decay plays an important role in the transport properties of the single photon in this microcavity waveguide if we refer to real systems.
We describe exciton-polariton modes formed by the interaction between excitons in a 2D layer of a transition metal dichalcogenide embedded in a cylindrical microcavity and the microcavity photons. For this, an expression for the excitonic susceptibility of a semiconductor disk placed in the symmetry plane perpendicular to the axis of the microcavity is derived. Semiclassical theory provides dispersion relations for the polariton modes, while the quantum-mechanical treatment of a simplified model yields the Hopfield coefficients, measuring the degree of exciton-photon mixing in the coupled mode…
Electrical control over the energy exchange between exciton states mediated by cavity-polaritons at room temperature is demonstrated. Spatially separated field effect transistors based on monolayers of WS$_2$ and MoS$_2$ are placed in a tuneable Fabry-Pérot microcavity. This device is specially designed for the formation of exciton-polaritons that combine the two exciton species and a tuneable cavity mode. It is further shown that the tuning of the free carrier density in the WS$_2$ film leads to a strong modulation of the Rabi splitting that modifies the excitonic and photonic nature of excit…
Multidimensional coherent spectroscopy (MDCS) is used to separate coherent and incoherent many-body contributions to the population-time dynamics in a GaAs-based semiconductor microcavity encapsulating a single InGaAs quantum well. In a three-pulse four-wave-mixing scheme, the second delay time is the population time that in MDCS probes excited-state coherences and population dynamics. Nonlinear optical interactions can mix these contributions, which are isolated here for the lower- and upper-exciton-polariton through the self- and mutual-interaction features. Results show fast decays and osci…
We theoretically investigate the nonlinear effects in a hybrid quantum optomechanical system consisting of two optically coupled semiconductor microcavities containing a quantum dot and a Kerr nonlinear substrate. The steady state behavior of the mean intracavity optical field demonstrates that the system can be used as an all optical switch. We further investigate the spectrum of small fluctuations in the mechanical displacement of the movable distributed Bragg reflectors (DBR) and observe that normal mode splitting (NMS) takes place for high Kerr nonlinearity and pump power. In addition, we h…
We present a theoretical model that allows us to describe the dynamics of exciton polaritons in the strong-coupling regime in a monolayer WS2 based semiconductor microcavity. Numerical simulations using Boltzmann equations give an overall description of polariton kinetics over a temperature range of 130-230K, under nonresonant excitation. Here, only the scattering rate via optical phonons (LO) from the upper (UP) towards lower (LP) polariton branches is considered. According this model we show the importance of the radiative lifetime of the polaritonic states relative to polariton relaxation r…
The future of quantum communication systems and quantum networks heavily rely on the ability to fabricate and coherently control the conversion of photons between different modes based on a solid-state plateform. In this work, we propose and theoretically investigate a scheme to optomechanically control coherent mode conversion of optical photons by utilizing two optically coupled hybrid semiconductor microcavities containing a quantum dot (QD). One of the microcavity is pumped by an external laser and the second cavity is driven by light emitted by the QD that is embedded in the interface sep…
We theoretically explore optical bistability for possible signature of all optical switching and their performance in a hybrid quantum optomechanical system comprising of two semiconductor microcavity coupled optically. One of the cavity is driven by an external optical pump laser while the second cavity which contains a quantum dot is indirectly driven by light transmitted from the first cavity. The generated bistable behavior due to optomechanical nonlinearity shows a typical optical switching behavior and it can be controlled by changing the laser power, QD cavity coupling, rocking paramete…
We explore the generation of anti-Stokes fluorescence from strongly coupled organic dye microcavities following resonant ground-state excitation. We observe polariton emission along the lower polariton branch, with our results indicating that this process involves a return to the exciton reservoir and the absorption of thermal energy from molecules in a vibrationally excited ground-state. We speculate that the generation of a population of "hot" polaritons is enhanced by the fact that the cavity supresses the emission of Stokes-shifted fluorescence, as it is located energetically below the cut…
We theoretically investigate optical bistability, mechanically induced absorption (MIA) and Fano resonance of a hybrid system comprising of a single quantum dot (QD) embedded in a solid state microcavity interacting with the quantized cavity mode and the deformation potential associated with the lattice vibration. We find that the bistability can be tuned by the QD-cavity mode coupling. We further show that the normalized power transmission displays anomalous dispersion indicating that the system can be used to generate slow light. We also demonstrate the possibility of using the system as all…
We study theoretically optomechanical interactions in a semiconductor microcavity with embedded quantum well under the optical pumping by a Bessel beam, carrying a non-zero orbital momentum. Due to the transfer of orbital momentum from light to phonons, the microcavity can act as an acoustic circulator: it rotates the propagation direction of the incident phonon by a certain angle clockwise or anticlockwise. Due to the optomechanical heating and cooling effects, the circulator can also function as an acoustic laser emitting sound with nonzero angular momentum. Our calculations demonstrate the …
Semiconductor microcavities can exhibit various macroscopic quantum phenomena, including Bose-Einstein condensation of polaritons, Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) states of polaritons, and photon lasing (lasing with negligible Coulombic exciton effects). An important aspect of possible experimental identification of these states is a gap in the excitation spectrum (the BCS gap in the case of a polaritonic BCS state). Similar to the polaritonic BCS gap, a light-induced gap can exist in photon lasers. Although polaritonic BCS states have been observed on the basis of spectroscopy in the vicinity…

A quantum behavior of the light emitted by exciton polaritons excited in a pillar semiconductor microcavity with embedded quantum well is investigated. Considering the bare excitons and photon modes as coupled quantum oscillators allows for an accurate accounting of the nonlinear and dissipative effects. In particular, using the method of quantum states presentation in a quantum phase space via quasiprobability functions (namely, a $P$-function and a Wigner function), we study the effect of the laser and the exciton-photon detuning on the second order correlation function of the emitted photon…
We demonstrate an individual single-walled carbon nanotube light emitter integrated onto a microcavity and a waveguide operating in the telecom wavelength regime. Light emission from the carbon nanotube is enhanced at the cavity resonance and is efficiently extracted from the waveguide facet. We have transferred carbon nanotubes to a nanobeam cavity with a dry process, ensuring that an individual carbon nanotube is used. The guided light emission from a chirality-identified single carbon nanotube has a narrow linewidth of less than 1.3 nm and an off-resonance rejection of $\sim$17 dB. The wave…
